The Beacon has the best breakfast in Wichita! Super delicious, very fair priced, and a great staff. The food here is much better than most of the more popular breakfast joints in town, and it's a great atmosphere too. Service is prompt and the food is always hot! The only downside is the location. Parking can be hard to find, because there's not enough of it, but even if you can't park on site, you won't have to walk far. I've never had to wait more than maybe 10 minutes even when they were super busy. The Beacon is one of my favorites! read more

This restaurant speaks volumes on customer service and superb food quality at lightning speeds!! Let me note that upon arriving at the Beacon, I was in an argument with my gf about my walking speed. Apparently I always leave her in the dust but for the record, I don't walk fast!! I just don't walk aimlessly. We both weren't in great moods when we got there but we were seated quickly and our orders taken. I ordered the maxi omelette with added jalapeños. And I was surprised to see it right in front of me within 5 minutes of ordering it. We had breakfast here two days in a row because it was such a great experience! We were in town for a family reunion so our group for breakfast was 15 people the first morning and 19 the next. There was something on the menu for everyone; the portions were huge; the prices were reasonable; and the waitress was amazing!! Basic breakfast done well. Nothing fancy. Friendly staff that is attentive but not smothering. My food was fresh and hot. The biggest thing I liked was that the place was bright and airy, no smoking (common in breakfast places with the old codger crowd) and was VERY CLEAN! Nothing dusty or greasy and no broken or torn up furniture. They are proud of their establishment and what they do and it shows. Lastly, reasonable prices. I've been visiting Wichita a lot lately for personal reasons and have been exploring the Old Town and downtown areas quite extensively. My favorite food categories are basically breakfast and pizza. I've already found my pizza place in Picasso's, and now I think I've found my breakfast place. I'm an extremely picky eater and especially when it comes to breakfast food there are certain things that have to be done right in order to win me over. Eggs are pretty hard to screw up, but hash browns, bacon, and biscuits can be anywhere from amazing to awful. I thought the Beacon nailed all 3. The hash browns were perfectly crispy on the outside and softer on the inside without getting too mushy. There was also quite a heap of them to devour. The bacon was also at the right crispiness/softness ratio and extremely flavorful. A lot of places just basically burn the bacon and throw it on the plate expecting you to be happy. The third crucial category for me (especially bein' a southern boy) is biscuits. It's pretty hard to find a good biscuit outside of the South. The Beacon served up a nice, giant, well crafted biscuit with my breakfast. Not too crumbly, not too mushy. Sure, the staff can be a little awkward at times, but it's a diner and that's kinda part of the charm. All in all, it's great breakfast food. I haven't tried anything else on the menu, but this breakfast had me visiting twice this week alone and I'm sure there are more visits in my near future. read more

I was here on a layover and had heard about this greasy spoon eaterie and decided it was right up my alley. It has potential, I think I may have ordered wrong, but I would try it again when I want to clog my arteries with diner food. I had the beacon breakfast with ham, eggs, hashbrowns on an openface english muffin. My biggest complaint was that the english muffin was almost mushy...it looked toasty but it was spongy. We went with a couple of friends to try out the breakfast this weekend. It started that we were told by the not-so-friendly staff that it would be less than 10 minutes for a table, but it was actually right about 20. Not a huge deal, but I kept hearing them repeat 10 minutes to customers when it seemed very unlikely that it would be that soon. If you stand outside to wait as most people do, (only 3 chairs and 3-4 standing spaces inside) you will get skipped! We saw it happen to another couple so I went and found a space inside as we got close and then texted the rest of my group when we were being sat. Our food took a long time, about 20-25 minutes from the time we placed our order and was brought out several minutes after a family who was sat behind us right after we ordered. I just wish our waitress would have said something about why we were waiting so long compared to other customers. Food was okay. Eggs were cooked properly, sausage patties were good and a little spicy, biscuits were very soft, but the gravy was a little bland and lacked sausage. The buffalo sausage also appears to be the same meat as their buffalo burger which seemed strange. One of our group got a breakfast burrito with chorizo, but it didn't actually have chorizo. It had ground beef seasoned with taco seasoning. We eat a lot of chorizo, especially in breakfast burritos so it was pretty obvious that it wasn't chorizo of any sort. They do have good hot sauce, but overall we'll be going elsewhere for breakfast. read more
