I had heard about this place through the grape vine and decided to check it out with my spouse (who by the way is a foodie who VERY hard to impress) but this place blew his socks off. The menu is adorably literature themed, the food is amazing comfort food as well, the service was wonderful (shoutout to our server hunter! Very kind and informative on the menu, we did all of his recommendations and they were SO delicious) the coffee was AMAZING and was just the comfort I needed for the day. (I myself am somewhat of a coffee connoisseur being a barista for nearly a decade). The theme of being a vintage bookshop / cafe was executed perfectly. This place feels and looks like something that comes straight out of a hallmark movie. Lastly they are PET FRIENDLY!! We unfortunately did not have our doggos with us but it's nice to know when we do Visit in the future we can bring them along. read more

Great food and coffee! The lady that runs the shop was really friendly. My wife and I really liked the Mexican Mocha and Mexican Rose Mocha. We both had the Goldilocks sandwich which was delicious, perfect mix of savory, sweet and salty. Next time I'm in town ill definitely be back! read more

I finally got to try this new restaurant when a friend came to town. I tried to make lunch reservations and discovered reservations were only for dinner. However, the nice woman who answered the phone told me to call ahead when we left for the restaurant. I did, and we were placed on the waiting list. Once we arrived, about 10 minutes later, we waited just a minute or two before we were seated at a small table by a window. Bookshelves with library books surround the restaurant. Prominently displayed are copies of Tom Clancy's "The Bear and the Dragon." Even the restroom (unisex, one stall) has a book motif. I was somewhat taken aback that our table's small glasses of water were at room temperature, but we were soon given a carafe of ice to add to our water. The menu is printed on sheets of paper on a clipboard. Coffee, tea, and beverages are "prologue." Lunch is "chapter two" (I assume breakfast is "chapter one"). Sandwich prices range from $9-$18. We both chose the Griz on the recommendation of the diners next to us. The Griz consists of turkey, bacon, mozzarella, tomato, and basil pine nut pesto for $13. It was served with sea salt kettle chips. The sandwich was very tasty. I had my pesto on the side. The bill was presented inside a book. Mine was entitled "What are you going to do with your life?" Cute touch. The restaurant was VERY busy on Friday afternoon. Even though it was a warm day, some diners sat outside. We were grateful to get a table inside. As we left around 1:15 p.m., the small waiting area was full. The parking lot is small and shared with the Thai massage studio across the lot, so keep that in mind. You may have to park on the street. The diners beside us said breakfast here is delicious, so I will try that next! read more

This place had one of the worst burgers I have ever had. 3 of the 6 oysters had multiple shell pieces in them. My old fashion was barely over a one finger pour. Fry's were cold and they have nothing to dip them in. Two burgers, two drinks and 6 oysters were $125. How this place got high reviews is beyond me. read more

We have been want to try this restaurant for a while and today was the first time we were able to get in. The seating is very peculiar some looks more comfortable than others and some is a little too closer together but it is very cozy. My husband ordered Althea French omelet which a good bit be sure to a a side of bacon as it is smaller than most restaurants. I ordered the Bjorn Breakfast which was also very good (it did have just a few too many sprouts on it for my taste) and it could be split if you just wanted a lighter breakfast for two. Told the waitress that my chicken was tough (not chewable or eatable, like bark) and she came back from kitchen to say the cook had to deep fry longer after first blush showed too raw near bone. So, they explained why they served a horrible meal and went on their way. After getting home and pondering the situation, we realized we should have sent back to kitchen. Terrible PR! Went for the first time tonight. Oh my goodness! It's now my new favorite restaurant in the Quad Cities! Husband started off with a mushroom bisque. So divine! Creamy with a LOT of mushroom flavor! I started with Caesar salad with in-house dressing. The salad was topped with too much dressing, but the dressing was just perfectly delicious so I can oversee that. Both my husband and I had the fresh catch of the day -- Hawaiian ono. The fish was grilled to perfection and balanced beautifully with the roasted garlic and parsley gremolata. The sautéed spinach accompanied with blistered tomatoes made rounded the entree. We ended with the million dollar bar: shortcake with a layer of caramel and chocolate served with vanilla ice cream. It was a perfect ending to a wonderful dinner. Our waitress was attentive and the owner came by to say hello, too! Kudos to their playlist of English bands. Went for breakfast this morning as our first visit there. Heard wonderful things and am very happy to say, they are all true! The place looks amazing and is scrupulously clean. Every one we interacted with was very friendly and welcoming! I had the Bjorn and it was fantastic! A cup of regular coffee was my choice, so flavorful and smooth! Also ordered the scones with clotted Cream and lemon curd which was to DIE for! The decor is so on point! Love that we received the tab tucked inside of an old book! Patio has heaters and looks very inviting. Pet friendly patio is a plus! One of the owners came by to see how we were enjoying our visit. We split the Lady Guinevere's Salad, which was a delicious start to our dinner. My husband had the Poulet Frits, which was perfectly fried and still very moist. I had the Southwest Shrimp and Grits. As Chris, one of the co-owners, is from Louisiana, as is my family, I had high expectations for this dish. And honestly, this was some of the best shrimp and grits I've ever had. Great coffee and ambiance. Please try the Mexican Chocolate Latte! We were with four and ordered 2 orders of scones as well on top of the coffees. Food was great as well. Now the bad part.... When we finished our scones and got our coffees, somebody that worked at the Bear & Dragon, not our server, probably supervisor, came over and said that because it was a Saturday that they could not just serve some scones and coffee and that we had to order breakfast or get moving quickly. The nerve! We quickly downed our coffees and left the table so they can make more money at 8am on a Saturday morning. Nowhere did it say they had a minimum order amount and we still spent $40. Nor did the server tell us that we had to order more than scones from the menu once seated...Too bad that we had this experience and that we won't be back with our guests in the future. Would have been an easy 5 stars, except for the rude treatment of patrons. Be aware when going here in the weekends.
