Quentin is outstanding. We had our AC repaired by another company at a cost of $1,900. The repair lasted 24 hours. Our AC sounded like it was going to explode we call the other guys up and they came back to see what the problem was and told us we needed a new system for $12,000.00 on top o the $1,900. we already paid. We decided we needed a second opinion so we called Bear Valley Plumbing and Heating. Quentin came out that same day and said there were several parts of the AC that were left unconnected . Long story short, Quentin hooked everything back up and the AC is running great! All for a service call not the $12,000.00 we were quoted by the other guys. I'm hesitant about leaving a 1 star review because it's a local business and I don't want to mess with anyone's livelihood. However, I will leave a 2 star review for the sake others so they don't get screwed over. I called initially to get a quote on running a water line to our fridge. They made the appointment and mentioned a $99 fee that would be applied towards the job. They arrived an hour late. I called them after 30 minutes and they responded with a text saying they were on their way. Their offices are 10 minutes from my house. The technicians, Wesley and Jeremy, arrived in two different trucks. They were both very friendly and put on booties before entering the house. They went into the crawl space, took some measurements, and told me they would be back with a quote. About 20 minutes later they came back quoting me $1600-$1900. I asked for a breakdown of the costs but they didn't have one. All they had was a paragraph explaining what they would do. I asked if they could do PEX or another way of reducing costs but they said no. I told them it was about 5x my budget and there was no way I could go with them for that price. Then they asked me for the $99... They said it covers the cost of them coming out, but they didn't need two people (One of the technicians literally did nothing) and it was about 10 minutes total of actual inspection. Wesley tried to talk to his supervisor but they would not budge. It just sucks because that is a very large chunk of my budget I had for this job and it was for nothing. Full disclosure, I have heard that they do really good work and are highly competent. They are also by far the most expensive in the valley. If anyone is looking to hire them, prepare yourself to receive a quote much higher than expected, and if you aren't willing to lose $99, I would look elsewhere. read more

From the first call to the service several hours later- I was totally pleased. Wesley the technician spent the time to explain everything to me. He solved the plumbing issue at hand and offered suggestions for replacing the stop and waste valve to avoid future problems. He then inspected the bathrooms and kitchen and under each sink to be sure there were no other leaks or problems. He gave me a bid for the future work he recommended - serving the furnace, replacing the 18 year old water heater and replacing the stop and waste valves. He explained everything along the way all of our options of which included three. But he did not push for any of the more expensive ones because he didn't feel it would suit our needs. I had a clog in my kitchen double sink that I couldn't fix myself. I called on a Friday morning, and they were able to make an appointment for me on Monday, and said they'd call if anyone canceled. To my surprise, they called, and a suoer friendly and professional plumbing technician, Quentin, came by my house mid afternoon. After looking over the situation, he was able to tell me exactly what it would cost to fix the problem, the possible scenarios it would take to fix it, and their work guarantee. it ended up being the bigger of the two problems, but he was able to fix it no problem, and was done by 5:00. Sad, Sad, Sad.... Ive used these guys on my previous cabin multiple times, from furnace issues, to installing a tankless water heater. Recently i moved into a brand new cabin and i called to get an estimate for a Moen water leak monitoring device. They said they would need to come out to give quote (no problem!, but another plumber quoted after asking me a few questions).. BUT!! there would be a $99 charge for the quote, that can be refunded if you opt to have them do the job!! Im sorry!! but that is ridiculous! they can see ive spent thousands of dollars with their company in past! To many choices of GOOD plumbers in Big Bear! Bear Valley Plumbing and heating just lost TWO customers!! as i had them work on my elderly Mother in laws home up there as well!! read more

If you look at all of the previous reviews for BVPH, you will see that they are 5 star. The one thing that I can say is the service was outstanding. I had a gas leak in a dryer and the plumber diagnosed the problem and solved it quickly and effortlessly. He also assessed service needs for 3 other issues. With that said, the only thing that detracts from a 5 star review is the pricing. First, most service companies will have a service fee and then apply the fee to the total bill. With BVPH, it is "in addition to" the service being performed; that's a first. So, be ready to pay $99 for the plumber to just show up. Then, get ready for additional fees. Second, the plumber quoted a price of $199 to replace a dryer connector (the $99 covered the other assessments). That is unscrewing an old piece and then screwing in a new piece (yes, that included diagnosing the problem). I say that the total job took him 1 hour to complete. Now, I know that Big Bear is a bit of a captive audience and many of the other plumbers do not have the customer service as BVPH. However, I would really consider shopping your plumbing/heating issue before you settle on BVPH. I have to say "mea culpla" for not calling multiple plumbers. Again, I think that the work was great, but I do not also believe that BVPH is the only reputable plumber on the Hill. As much as I appreciate the service, BVPH will be a "last resort" for me. It will not be the first number I call for service. By the way, BVPH does set pricing for its service; no matter how long it takes. That may sound great/fair. However, there is no break down of labor cost, material cost or any other cost associated with your service. When I extrapolated my service, I had a labor cost of about $100 per hour and a material cost of about $75 (for a $20 part). So, you are going to get great, warrantied service from BVPH. However, be ready to pay a steep price for that service. read more

A little over a year ago we moved to another home in Big Bear. We've experienced multiple issues with the heating system resulting in 3 services calls. Technicians Bryan and Wesley have been professional, courteous, and very knowledgeable when performing the repairs. Why only 2 stars? We went a week with out heat while waiting for a fan motor to arrive and was quoted over $1300 to replace. Asking for a breakdown material and labor, i was told they don't do that, just give total cost. Looking up the OEM motor cost found it to be about $200, leaving $1100 for labor, seemed very high. The Technion arrived a 10AM and was done in 2 1/2 hours! Add the free estimate a week earlier of a little over an hour, the labor rate is way too high in my opinion. Bear Valley Plumbing, Bryan quoted me $595 to change a valve kit on my tub/shower and clean out the tub clean-out...PLUS the $99 service fee. $695 to change valves!! We are aware of the costs for this job because valves commonly need replacement on our rental properties. I told Bryan his quote was way out of line, but he said, "it's within industry standards." I called Bear Valley Plumbing and Heating to get an estimate on a water heater replacement. Our water heater works fine, but is circa 1986 and we know we're on borrowed time! The woman on the phone was very nice, but said I had to speak to a scheduler to get a quote. The scheduler called back and I explained we were looking to for a quote on a replacement water heater and she said she needed to schedule to have a service technician come out to see the water heater to give us a quote. Ah, Ok I figured, but then she said the cost for a technician call would be $99 dollars. That's where I balked. If I called and said my water heater wasn't working right, or I was interested in changing the size, location, or type of water heater there MIGHT have been reason to PAY upfront for an technical visit. But no, I wont pay 99 dollars to look at a perfectly functioning water heater to and have a diagnosis of, "Yeah that's old, you should consider replacing it". It is old. I want to replace it. I want an estimate on a 6 yr 50 gallon gas water heater and what you would charge to install it. I won't be paying 99 dollars to find out what that cost is. Technicians diagnose, troubleshoot and problem solve. No reason you couldn't tell me what a unit costs and an rough estimate of installation without charging for a technicians service call.
