Our heater had completely gone out and needed to be replaced. While he was there, Steven discovered a completely separate emergency: our tankless hot water heater had broken a seal on the valve and had been spraying water for a couple of days. He immediately stopped what he was doing, jumped in to stop the leak, and got it fully repaired the same day. He saved our family from what could have been a very costly disaster. Steven is honest, extremely knowledgeable, and genuinely cares about doing the right thing. In Big Bear, it can be so hard to find reliable contractors who show up when promised and don't take advantage of the situation, but Steven is the real deal. He made a very stressful experience so much better. He is definitely a number you want to keep saved in your phone. Steven at SMH Heating and Air Conditioning was fantastic. After our gas was accidentally shut off by the earthquake valve, both of our furnaces stopped working and we couldn't get them going again. Steven showed up quickly, diagnosed the issue right away, and had both furnaces reset and running in no time. On top of that, I had incorrectly wired a couple connections on my Ecobee thermostat from a DIY install, and he fixed that without hesitation. Everything is now working perfectly. We needed maintenance for our HVAC system and we were getting quotes from many other companies with astronomical prices and unnecessary recommendations. Steven recommended to get the ducts vacuumed first, then he would go and clean the furnace and heating elements afterwards. We had an issue with the heat not working during a snowstorm, and we were traveling with toddlers, so it was pretty urgent. This company came out within 15 minutes, despite the weather, and quickly discovered a carbon monoxide leak. They immediately removed the entire unit, aired out the house, and then drove out in the storm to get us space heaters so we'd be comfortable and safe through the night. Simple enough, but I wasn't there to supervise, and I just really appreciate dealing with somebody local to the community who is honest and reliable, eager to work, and is looking to do right by families with vacation homes that need some help. We were trying to connect the c-wire, but then it started only blowing cold air. Searched on Yelp for someone local that was 24/7, he had 5 stars so I messaged via Yelp. Didn't know that it would send it as a project to a bunch of different companies down the mountain. Thank God Steven responded within 10 min. (My husband called Big Bear Heating, which sends you to the big company (Northstar?) that bought their number. Their message said they'll call back on Monday). Steven was efficient reliable amazing plumber. I do not recommend anybody but him I've lived in Big Bear for 10 years and I've not come across anyone as good as him. He had fixed my water heater as an emergency because I have a short term rental and I have guest in my home and he literally fixed it in a couple days. Not only that I had another heating company come prior to him and gave me a $4000 quote and told me I had to change out my water heater when Steven looked at it. He says it's still under warranty. Despite the same day service and after hours call, I was charged a reasonable rate for what was a simple fix. They did not take advantage of my situation and try to up-charge me.
