I've been here before, but I think it used to be called Mochi Co. back then. They still served Beard Papa's cream puff's but it wasn't the store front name like it is now. Nevertheless, the cream puffs are amazing and they have different shell flavors like Chocolate, Matcha, Smores, and Oreo Cookie. You then pick what kind of filling you want between Vanilla, Green Tea, Chocolate and there may have been others... Beard Papa's cream puffs have never done me wrong. This location in Irvine also has a good selection of other desserts like mochi, creme crulee, cheesecake, other cakes, and drinks. My husband ordered the Taiyaki with red bean filling, which was good, just flatter than originally anticipated. The tai tasted like a really good warmed up croissant. The cream puff was crunchy, and the matcha flavor on the outside was delicious. The inside gushed out with chocolate, and somehow chocolate went all over my nose! It's so messy! I was very impressed with this location and the people and the people working here. The lady taking our order was very patient with us and had a very cheery attitude. I wish I had gotten her name. Unlike the MP location, this place offers ice cream. My buddy tried it and he loved it. We ordered the cream puffs, which are basically freshly filled eclairs. He is a cream puff connoisseur. This is the second time we went to get chocolate dip cream puff with chocolate filling . The previous visit the food and services was good, but this time was terrible. I intended to buy regular sized creme puffs but made the mistake of buying the huge creme puffs (shells) ^^;; At least i was given a free original one in addition to buying six of them. The creme puff shells are much bigger than expected, the size of your palm. The shells themselves are good but the creme inside is a bit lacking/not as sweet and melts easily (?) compared to the creme puffs i typically buy. I also got taiyaki, fresh and hot but the fillings inside were quite melted and liquidy, like a sauce. It's a solid place for a fresh filled cream puff. I've only tried the basic flavors, such as the original cream puff, chocolate cream puff, and green tea cream puff. I was originally confused when the associate asked what kind of cream I would like inside the cream puff, and realized that they actually allow you to choose the cream puff filling. For example, a green tea cream puff (with green tea icing on the outside?) can be filled with chocolate cream. It leaves a lot to the imagination, but I just decided to go with the respective fillings of each cream puff flavor. To note, the chocolate and green tea cream are both a few cents extra and it won't break the bank but it's a subtle upcharge. Only reason I wouldn't consider this place 5 stars is that the wait times can be atrocious at night and the layout is not super intuitive in terms of where to line up. There are stickers on the ground to show where to go but some people ignore the line and just go straight to the register. However, the puff itself is nice, light, and crispy and the cream filling is the perfect pairing to make this a neat treat. Although the puffs can be $4-5 so the pricing may add up quickly, the qualify of each puff makes this place worthwhile. read more

Beard Papa's is the best! Cream puffs made to perfection. I remember the first time I tried them was in 2008, and I have been a fan ever since. I've tried the Original Shell and Honey Butter Shell... but stick to the original. The flavors usually stay the same, but I know they used to have a Flavor of the Week on their menu which I always looked forward to. Some of my favorite fillings include their vanilla, matcha, strawberry, pumpkin (seasonal) and rose. VANILLA and PUMPKIN are the best! I used to live near a Beard Papa's and I have been missing it for a long time. I actually wanted to go to Daiso, but I saw a sign "Mochi" next door so I went inside thinking I'd order some mochi to-go. To my surprise, there was a Beard Papa's inside! The inside of the cafe was very cute and I could imagine myself working/studying here. They had so many options for food and drinks including ice cream mochi. And fun to note, they had a bunch of cute k-pop merch in the back! Back to Beard Papa's, they had a seasonal Ube flavor so I had to get one of those and I got Matcha as well. They fill each cream puff fresh and they ask whether you'd like the original cream filling or the flavored filling. I actually only ever got the original flavor so I went for flavored for each. The Ube was astounding. A lot of times Ube flavor can be way too light and all you get is the creamy flavor and purple color. Not here. You got a full punch in your face Ube flavor and they filled the cream puff all the way up so much that it was spilling out. The outside has a light coating of ube and the cream puffs and the cream themselves were perfectly chilled and delicious. The same comments can be made for the Matcha flavor. The bitterness and floral scent of matcha was absolutely present and was a perfect contrast to the lightly sweet custard. Very happy that Beard Papa's is still doing well and will definitely stop by if I'm in the area again. read more

I have never had any issues with their products and the service in this suite is usually very good, more efficient than friendly. Customer service. I recently came in after wandering around Daiso next door and the young man helping us, I believe, has been there for a very long time. I don't know how many years ago it was but I left a note on a check in commenting on a young man who was working so hard and being so attentive to every customer and every detail behind the counter. I think the person who helped me on my most recent visit was the same young man, and he is just as hard working as he was all those years ago. I don't know his name because he didn't have a name tag, but whoever he is, I want to say thank you because it is so hard to find that level of energy, focus, and dedication in the food service industry. After over ten years in the industry and having become a business owner myself, I look for people like him. I don't know who will read this review, but if it gets back to the BP team, I want you guys to know that you have a great team member and his work has not gone unnoticed, and it's people like him that not only keep me coming back, but encourage me to visit more often. read more

BEARD PAPAS in OC!! I remember as a kid I'd always go to the one in the puente hills mall, and later on to the one in little Tokyo in LA. I was so excited to find out there was one in this area :) The first time I came it took me a second to locate it. It's located inside another dessert shop. They are honestly the best cream puffs around. BIG, crispy on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside, and so many different flavors and fillings to choose from. They're not too sweet, and so airy and light, you'll end up eating all of them before you can stop yourself. My absolute favorite fillings are the original, green tea, and strawberry. Very bad service. Did not offer samples for ice cream and when we made our mind to order the vanilla ice cream, store employee yelled saying it is only used for shave ice so can't be sold. Then the store employee did not offer napkins after we bought the shave ice and ice cream. Then when we went to get them, got yelled again saying to always ask before getting them. Don't understand the constant yelling at costumers. If you are having a bad day then you shouldn't be working at retail or don't take your attitude to work. Update:after reading the owner's reply I understand now why they have bad customer service. That is because the owner allows it. My whole review was based on yelling at the customer. If you don't treat your customer with respect then your customer won't keep on spending money there. A lot of things can be explained by not yelling. But obviously you don't mind your employee/you yelling at customers when customers have a question. If you actually want cream inside of your cream puff, good luck. Go to Hamada-ya for that. The cavity of the cream puff here is consistently barely half filled with a giant air bubble inside. I see so many businesses in OC cutting corners, charging more and giving people less. It's really ruining the once great food scene here. It just makes me not want to go out and cook more at home. So yes, they might be saving a few pennies by being stingy with the cream but it's going to alienate their customers eventually and I'm sure that will impact their profits. read more
