Went a few weeks ago for a little Sunday chill day date with my husband. We had so much fun being creative and making our own bears! KJ was great super informative, and made the whole process easy and had great music choices! We picked up our finished bears about a week after painting them and they came out so cute. Highly recommend as a fun artsy thing to in la

Honestly, this was so much fun! I'm an artsy person, so I was looking for something creative to do in LA besides just visiting art museums--and this was perfect. I knew I had to come here so I gps'ed it (not related but check out my gps pic though, pretty clever with the gps navigation right, our rental had no gps installed so I rubber bannned my phone to the digital screen in the car). There are different sizes of bears to choose from; we went with a medium-sized one and a keychain version to make it a sentimental, memorable experience. You get to choose 3 paint colors (more costs extra), and they provide gloves, brushes, and the paint. Once you're done painting or splattering, it takes about 48 hours to dry. Shipping is an additional cost, which makes sense since they're sending it back to your hometown. We had an absolute blast painting our bear--and at the end, you can even throw on some glitter for extra flair. Super fun and totally worth it!

What a wonderful experience. Clay Cafe is absolutely mom-and-daughter approved!…read more I originally came across the idea of painting pottery while visiting Vista, California. I wanted to do something different and special with my mom, who is almost 80, incredibly active, full of spirit, and has worked hard her entire life. She had never really been in a setting where she could simply sit down, paint, and explore her creative side, so I wanted to surprise her with something new. While we were still in Vista, we briefly parked and I started looking up pottery-painting places closer to the LA County area. That is when I came across Clay Cafe. We were already beginning our drive back toward home, so I decided to take a chance on it even though it was still about 30 minutes from us. I'm so glad I did. This is a family-owned business run by a mother-and-daughters team who are artists themselves, and you can really feel the care they've put into the space. They were welcoming, helpful, patient, and genuinely kind from the moment we walked in. We picked out our pottery and ended up spending almost THREE HOURS painting! The time flew by because we were having such a great time together. There are plenty of paints, tools, and creative options, and the guidance they provide is wonderful without making you feel rushed. They also have a cafe next door with coffee, cookies, and other goodies. If you have a sweet tooth, definitely try the cookies--they are huge! We enjoyed iced coffee and a cappuccino while we were there. I will say that this isn't the cheapest pottery-painting experience, but I felt the quality, materials, tools, atmosphere, and assistance made it worth it. My shark piggy bank was around $60 and my mom chose a vase around $50, so with everything we spent roughly $130-$140 for the two of us, depending of course on what pottery you choose. After you finish painting, they glaze and fire your pieces. They took our contact information, and about two weeks later we received a text letting us know everything was ready. We picked up our finished pottery today and were SO happy with how it turned out. They welcome walk-ins, although I would recommend making a reservation, especially if you want to settle in and really enjoy the experience. Parking was also easy since they are in a small plaza shared with 7-Eleven. They also host fun events, including a plant bingo where you can apparently win plants, so definitely check their current schedule. For me, though, the best part was simply getting to sit across from my mom, paint together, laugh, talk, and watch her creative side come out. That memory alone was worth every penny. Wonderful family-owned business, wonderful people, and such a fun experience. We will absolutely be back.

To get started, you can use a pencil to draw, tracing paper for a printed design, stickers as stencils, or even lace for cool designs. After painting, you'll come back in a week to pick up the piece after they glaze it. A group of five of us came for a fun girls' day and spent about two-ish hours painting and gabbing. The staff were so nice in giving us a mini-orientation and even helping us out when we made the dreaded paint mistake! It's a great spot for friends, kids, a date, or a solo outing if you want to be creative. They have a complimentary parking lot, otherwise, there's metered parking and free street parking in the neighborhoods across Wilshire. Tips: - You can see their current inventory online and they can order you a specific piece if you give them a month's heads up. - For words or numbers, bring your own stickers. Otherwise, you can purchase theirs and they have lace for sale too. - Check out their Instagram for inspiration! - For the non-artistic types, I highly recommend printing out a design you want in advance. You can trace it directly on a plate or the like and then just paint it with colors (or pick something easy like an animal to paint). Have fun!

The Color Me Mine in Beverly Hills was open on a Monday, and so I trekked out here to indulge my inner child. My *very* first job was at a Color Me Mine in Valencia in 2000, and it delights me that the franchises still look very much like they did back in the day. This location is clean and mostly well-equipped (they didn't have squeeze bottles for writing), and it was easy and straightforward to get started. The staff were friendly and helpful. I chose a cereal bowl (believe me, though, I was very tempted by the more whimsical ceramic pieces, such as the cat jar and the, uh, "beakers" :P ), and while I didn't originally have a design in mind, I was inspired by the tile wall to paint an ocean theme. I spent a few very pleasant hours glazing my bowl. I added a small ceramic boat and asked the staff (writing it in the notes on my slip) to glue it in the middle of the bowl. It turned out SO cute. And I will absolutely toot my own horn with the excellent glaze work :) Hehe

Upon picking up all of our items, they told me there was no need to check them to make sure they were all there. It's a good thing I did because they missed an item. They said they would look in the back and the lady at the front was very kind and apologized but the manager was rude and said she looked but hardly spent 5 minutes looking for the item. She offered a refund if they couldn't find it but said "these things happen", taking no accountability.

When we arrived, they told me there is also a mandatory 18% gratuity. First, that is legally supposed to be disclosed clearly and in advance which it was not. The kids picked out their paint colors and then we found out that your location was out of (six) different colors that they wanted and they had to settle for less appealing options. The attendants were slow to replenish the paint and acted like it was an inconvenience, even though they were getting a "mandatory gratuity". They could have been nicer and more friendly. One of the colors they "replenished" was not the same color as we got at the beginning even though we asked for the same color # and the attendant even checked the # to make sure, and one of the kids ending up having two different colors of paint in one section of her ceramic piece that she was really disappointed about. When we asked the attendant how we could fix it, she said she didn't know and literally walked away mid-conversation to help someone else. She clearly did not care about our party once we sat down. My bill was almost $300 and the mandatory gratuity was $49.32 which was absolutely not worth the service we got. I doubt we would come back to your store since we never had this issue at Color Me Mine.

They have a variety of objects to choose from, and we signed up for the ramen bowl class. The facility is large and beautifully appointed with several spaces to create pottery. My wife and I were completely new to pottery, so it was a bit intimidating when the class began. The instructor goes through the whole process in the beginning, but we couldn't hear much because of another group that was in another section. The acoustics of the place does not play well with multiple parties having conversations. However, the instructor was kind enough to answer our questions and assist with our mistakes.
