Rather than go with ribs or another classic BBQ meat, I opted for the Smoked Whitefish Sammie. And damn was it tasty. The fish was filling and the shredded green spread topping the fish was an excellent crunch and flavor. The bun not flimsy and able to hold up to the sauce. I only had a few choices off their menu since it was just a stand at Headflyer Brewing. I ordered the 1/4 baby back ribs and cole slaw. My boyfriend ordered the chicken sandwich. I thought the ribs were excellent though I would have liked more than 3 pieces. It had good flavor and tender meat. I also really liked the sauces. There was a lighter colored one that was more like a salad dressing I put that on my cole slaw and it made it really good. The sauces were a little grimy... that isn't a good word for it because I liked them a lot they were just very peppered? They had a sandy texture though really good with a nice spice. I got some brisket, and ribs for takeout. I also tried the beefy brisket soup. The brisket was very smokey and tender. I was slightly dry and the fat was gummy more than moist. We wandered in here after having a few drinks in the area and were lured in by the delicious smells. The menu has a great selection and I settled on the beast cheesesteak sandwich. I have to be honest- I didn't love it. The cheese sauce was gluey and didn't have much flavor, the meat was really good and I had a side of coleslaw that I enjoyed. My friend ordered the smoked beast and she raved about that as well as her fries. They were seasnoned and crispy. I would for sure come back to try other things. read more

The pork butt is good. That's a start. Past this, however, I think not. Beast is exactly what's wrong with the movement towards non-regional cuisine. I move to create a law that no barbecue restaurant can have the word "Texas" anywhere on its menu if it does not serve brisket (except one day a week). This is ridiculous. Overall it was an OK experience. My party order the combo for 3-4 ppl. The sirloin is about a room temperature, the other meat seems to be pre-cooked and the reheating resulted to different level of temperatures of meats. It was obvious as the food came out and served pretty fast compare to a true bbq join. Mac&Cheese, I pick Annie's mac&cheese box anytime. Toast should come unlimited but we got 4 half slices of bread. Will probably try other BBQ joins before I consider coming back to this place. read more

Great local brew selection on tap. They recommend their New York strip loin. I liked chopped pork butt better. Barbecue served Texas style on metal trays is fine in Texas where it's warmer, not a good idea up north in the winter. So I recommend ordering less and eating quick. Really enjoyed my 1-meat platter with chopped pork with jojo potatoes. The potatoes had a super gnarly, awesome rub on them and were cut like chips, but still soft like a fry. Good stuff! I enjoyed the house BBQ sauce sauce with my pork, but would be interested in a sweeter option at some point. Speaking of which, they didn't have sweet tea. After I enjoyed my platter, I ordered the brussels sprouts which were also awesome. Excited to try the rest of the sides and add this to my rotation of badass lunch spots. And the Brussels sprouts were to die for. They had specific beers that were exclusive to the restaurant and it was yummy!! The service was great as well. The only reason I'm deducting a star is for the atmosphere inside the restaurant. I feel like the design elements of the inside didn't meet my expectations. Their website and menu has very nice design elements. There needs to be more unique decoration and design to make the experience great- to get people back in the door. There are a lot of reviews saying that the portions are small, and overpriced. Or that the ribs were dry, and have little flavor. I'm here to tell you they must not have gone to the same Beast BBQ I went to tonight. My boyfriend and I got more super juicy, and sizable ribs than we expected. A full rack of ribs was $28, and each rib was seasoned well, and almost fall off the bone tender. We can't get over how good the value was, and can't wait to go back to try more delicious meats and sides! read more

Racist bartender. I walk in and i'm immediately met with a tense stare down by the bartender. I thought maybe he is just rude. I sat at the bar and he mumbled a passive aggressive comment "sure seat yourself." I am confused by it because the bar was near empty and there is no hosts. Then I asked for a food menu and as I was about to order he aggressively said, "Just so you know there is someone sitting there." I asked if someone was sitting on the same seat I am on. My husband brought me home some of their ribs brisket and collared greens . I hate to say this but as someone who has family all over the south and has eaten bbq in all the cities they list as their influences fairly regularly throughout my life . It is singularly some of the WORST bbq I've ever had . The mouth feel of the brisket and ribs was on point but there was no discernible ring you see with low and slow and or flavor . They almost tasted baked but I know by mouth feel they had to be smoked ? It was all questionable . Like it wasn't smoky ? How does that happen ? the sauces were horrible and the collard greens don't even get me started there was no vinegar bite or richness from meat or fat component and way way to much garlic . They had kick but that didn't make up for the lack of flavor . I've been hesitant to write a review because I thought I should give it a couple trys before making a decision. Then I realized I'm probably not busting back through the doors any time soon. Why am I handling this particular review so gingerly I asked myself? The answer is because I really like the owners and I respect what they do over at Eli's. I expected their version of bbq to be just as good as all my experiences across the street. Beast is good, it's not bad. I just don't yearn to return for much. Strangely, there are two items that I would go back for. The texas toast and the mac n cheese. Two very odd things for me to appreciate because I've never craved either food item before. The toast is just thick white bread toasted with lots of butter and kissed with garlic. Not much to it but it felt comfortably decadent in a completely pedestrian way. The mac n cheese was corkscrew pasta with a silky processed american cheese sheen. It had a thick sticky coating of goo that made every bite feel like a complete meal. There was no evidence of flour or rue which always turns me off to mac n cheese. Most likely just a personal preference. As far as the other things we had I can say skip the "nachos"...not good at all as the whole thing ate very dry. The salad requires that you order extra stuff (more bacon, blue cheese, tomatos, etc.) as it came out very sparse on the accoutrements. The brussel sprouts were banging! They were crispy and nutty and ate like a vegetable chip with some chew...totally awesome. My greens were fantastic too. The ribs were decent but I seem to be impossible to please when it comes to ribs. My standards are ridiculous and I'm positive most people will enjoy them but I'm a total snot and hard to please. Most mixed cocktails from the list are off the gun and I reject this concept for reasons I'm sure the owners and bartenders could dispute, but I can't help my disdain. I give Beast a solid 3.5 stars. I had a fun experience with my friends and I wouldn't deter anyone from trying it out. I definitely hit a few sweet spots. I just gotta keep hunting for the perfect ribs. This place never disappoints! The owner is friendly and the staff is polite and cheerful. My personal favorite was the chocolate pecan pie as well as the smoked beast. The creamy coleslaw was awesome and you could tell everything was fresh. The interior decor is super trendy and the overall feel of this place is like a quaint homey farmhouse. The pricing is super reasonable as well. I was also a HUGE fan of sauces they offered (my favorite was the cackalacky). Will be back soon! read more
