An alternative, fun experience to do with friends. The concept itself is pretty neat -- you're in an immersive video game experience with challenges that require teamwork, communication, logic, and memory. It's a very original idea for a group hang, and part of the fun is not quite knowing what you are going to get yourself into. As far as game play it gets 5/5 but there were minor issues and kinks which I feel like detracted from the gameplay and overall experience. GAMEROOM TEMP. The game rooms themselves are really stuffy with little air circulation. My group wasn't prepared for just how hot it would be within the room and I'm thankful we only had four people as any more would have made conditions unbearable. As you can see from the photos you get into plastic hazmat suits prior to gameplay. This increased the temp ten-fold and because you don't need these until the last room, it didn't make a lot of sense why you put these on before the game starts. PROTECTIVE GEAR. The zippers didn't work on 3/4 hazmat suits and while the Velcro was fine, it was strange that they wouldn't have replacements to ensure we could keep the paint off our clothes. Even with the suit on, friends ended up pretty wet. Also, you had to ask staff to help with the helmets to ensure they were secure, but even with this, I felt like a good chunk of "paint" ended up getting into my mouth. The blast does come at a pretty high speed and almost knocked my helmet off. TIMING. We had one of the last slots for the night and were told to get there 15 minutes prior or we wouldn't be able to play. Not sure if they were just saying that to ensure we would be on time, but we ended up waiting an additional 30 minutes before we could enter which felt like awhile considering how late it already was. One of the rooms that relies heavily on use of sensors had some issues with being able to read the game wristbands which made it difficult to play the game as intended. We kept having to slam our hands on the sensors multiple times for it to read and since the entire game depends on being able to use your wristbands under time pressures, the game was a bit frustrating. Overall, I had a great time with my friends and with some small changes in process it could be a spectacular experience. read more

Went for a friends birthday and honestly way more fun than I expected! Not the typical escape room, it's more puzzles, interactive puzzle games, and laser rooms. So much fun!!! And the wine and cocktails were good too! Parking is super easy around there. A bit of a pain to get there from VA but super fun! read more

I was really excited to experience Beat the Bomb, I've heard nothing but good things and was excited when the time finally came to go. We had a pretty late reservation but things were pretty smooth at check-in. We were sure to do the waivers online before arrival, and I recommend also having a team name ready to go at check in. They have a pretty extensive policy on late arrivals/no shows so I highly recommend that whoever books this for your group passes along all the detailed information. They also give you info on how to do the parking validation within the reservation email. They have free lockers for your items and outer layers and also the hazmat suits they provide really do protect your clothes. We did the paint and had no issues from anyone with any stains, so they do protect you well. I will say to follow their instructions on wearing thin layers. Some of the rooms felt like there was no AC and it was just hot having the hazmat suit on. I won't give any of the games away, but they are all so fun and just a unique thing to do in the DMV area. We were invited last night for their soft opening night. All the staff was super friendly and well trained, they kept everyone moving between the rooms and gave clear directions. All games are controlled with a electronic bracelet which is individually keyed for each person. The main experience is their beat the bomb mission. You are given hazmat type suits and navigate through four rooms with 10 minute games accumulating time for the last room -a giant paint "bomb" which sprays you all with colorful foamy paint if you fail to disarm it in time. The first room has six screens which display different tasks and the mechanisms to complete them. You have to work together to match up the tasks with the different screens. With each level you complete the tasks give you less details about the screen they are located on. The levels keep progressing until the timer runs out (we definitely though we had beaten it when another level popped up). The second room is a laser maze, each stage requires all team members to navigate through to tap their bracelet on a sensor on the opposite wall. You do get a set amount of lives per round so it's not all or nothing. This one was definitely very physical and got pretty hot with everyone running back and forth. The third room is a Simon says type memory game, each player is stationed a sensor and has to tap in for their specified symbol in correct sequence before the recording timer runs out. We had a bit of trouble picking this one up initially, you have to all tap one at a time to figure out who has what symbol. Also, you have to press right on the circle on the sensor for it to register, we ended up sliding our bracelets across our knuckles so we had more control to line them up. The last room has a big screen which shows an AR view of the floor, before each round it displays a set of colored symbols. Each person has to cover one of those symbols by standing on a spot on the floor corresponding to the symbol on the AR map. As you go through they add other challenges like fireballs and blackouts. We ended up numbering off to make sure we all covered a different symbol. After they lead you to a room where you are provided with booties and a face shield before heading into the bomb room. You each a given a pump type mechanism which you use to maneuver a virtual robot around the course on screen to try to shoot 10 targets to disarm the bomb. Each person controls one element of the robot - forwards, left, right, etc. We ended up failing and after a few second warning were blasted with the paint cannons. The suits did a good job protecting our clothes, although a bit of splash back can get under the mask depending on your position. The screen prompts you for a few pictures and a short video which are automatically emailed to you. An employee sprays you off and you exit, remove your gear, and head over to a set of sinks to wash off your hands. We had a group of six and all of us had a blast! It's definitely something that we want to go back to and try to improve our scores and beat the bomb! They also have game bays with a variety of cooperative and competitive AR games, which can be rented separately. We were able to try several of their shared bites all of which were fresh and delicious, I especially like the Texas dogs and the tortilla chips with buffalo chicken dip. They also had three kinds of alcoholic slushie - margarita, blue Hawaiian, and red laser Shirley temple (you can get it nonalcoholic or with a shot of liquor). All of them were great - although your mouth will definitely get dyed. Kids would definitely have fun although some of the levels may challenging for younger children. People with limited mobility may struggle with the laser maze and the floor game. Overall, we had a great time and will definitely come back! This would be a great spot for a company happy hour or team building, as well as for groups of friends or dates! read more

I visited this location on August 3, 2024, with a party of 12. I must say it was the absolute worst experience I have ever had. It was completely disheartening to witness an environment filled with a number of inexcusable incidents. First of all, there was no A/C on an evening where it was well over 85 degrees in the evening. There were two members of my party with asthma and the conditions made it impossible to enjoy the activity (they had to exit the facility and get air outside). The rooms were sweltering, and water was provided in cough syrup sized shot cups. How is this acceptable? Our party tried to speak with management and was informed that the manager on duty wasn't available. To say customer service was subpar would be overly gracious. The team that was on duty that evening was not only obtuse to our concerns, but downright rude! When requesting a refund given the circumstances, no one on duty seemed to think it was necessary to issue a refund. This entire experience was horrendous, and I am shocked and appalled that for such an inviting activity to be in the DMV, that this is how it's run. The owners/management needs to know that this was NOT a pleasant experience and there should be a thorough look into how the internal team is trained because they are NOT representing the brand well AT ALL!!! read more

I don't have anything bad to say about this place. My friends and I had a ball and can't wait to return (with better strategy)! Each staff member we encountered was extremely nice, making our experience there even better. My friends and I booked the mission experience. There were 7 of us so we had to breakout in 2 groups (4 vs 3). I recommend going as a group of 6, unless you don't mind splitting up into smaller groups or unless you have a larger group where each team can compete against one another. I think we would have done better in some of the challenges with the full 6 while other challenges would have been taken more coordination and strategy with 6. There is a parking garage and light parking on the street. Food is typical finger foods. Lockers for purses and jackets. I'm always interested in doing fun, unique things for memorable experiences. When I stumbled upon this, I was excited to try as I was an early adopter of the escape room phenomenon of yesteryears and my friend had a birthday to celebrate so I began planning. I like that you can reserve your time slot online and there's a bonus for allowing your group to pay individually if they like as well! For some reason, however, they decide to allow you to manage your reservation online but that only entails updating the time. If your party number changes, you've to email customer service each time. This can be a bit annoying if you're managing a large group. I think a better way forward is to allow the booker to edit details until the day before, in which case the reservation should process as-is. Anyway, as far as the game itself, it receives 5 stars! It was absolutely a blast and I look forward to attending again (hopefully when they've made the improvements I'm about to list). The customer service on site is seriously subpar. Here's a list of issues: 1.) My reservation couldn't be found in the system. Fine, but the staff member did a piss poor job of informing me the hold up. COMMUNICATE. She's just sitting there typing forever and not cluing me in to anything. Give them a spiel: "Hi! Welcome to Beat the Bomb. Do you have a reservation you need to check in for? Name? Thank you, give me a moment to look up your information." Then instead of staring at the screen for a minute or two until I have to ask a question: "Sorry. Im having trouble finding you in our system. Bear with me." Apparently she then had to enter me in manually??? But for why? And she entered me in a timeslot later than what Id selected without checking if it was okay first. Thank goodness I had canceled my dinner reservation elsewhere as our plans had changed because we never would have made it. She also did not bother to attempt looking up the reservation with the confirmation code. Not sure if thats a possibility with your current software but if it isnt, ADD IT. Either way, please teach employees how to properly communicate the issue had, the suggested remedy, and confirm with the customer if things need to change. 2.) After she manually entered the data, she told me to go sign the waiver on the provided tablets. However we went to sign the waiver and could not locate my name so I had to once again go back. She did not enter our name or perform next steps, and I had to speak with someone else to resolve. Therefore, not only did she not communicate the issue or resolve it, but she sent me away and absolved herself of the conundrum when Id already paid. 3.) After we were entered into the system by someone else, we were not given any details or further information. IE "Here are your wristbands, please choose a team name. Here's your buzzer; when it vibrates you can go over to the start window etc. If youd like to store your belongings, we have lockers over there for free." Nope, literally had to ask her each time for each piece of information. 4.) Finally, you are supposed to be able to choose your mission type. We were not given this option, and she chose for us. All in all, please find some basic training for your staff because the professionalism is lacking. I may return once it has been open for awhile and the ship is running smoother. read more

The lady giving instructions was so patient and kind, considering she had to repeat directions over and over. Also love that we got photo and video taken for us! Our group had a great time. BUYERS BEWARE. I prepaid for 7 guests to attend beat the bomb in DC last week. Unfortunately two of my friends had to cancel as their son ended up with the flu. The website said to email them 24-hours in advance and the guest count change would be honored, so I did. When we arrived to best the bomb, I let the front desk staff know and they also said they weren't able to do anything but because I emailed it would be honored. This was last week that I emailed, it is now Monday and I have not gotten a refund for the 2 nor heard back from them. It is absolutely unacceptable that I have not heard back. read more

I made a reservation for 4 general tickets and paid for a fifth general ticket the day of the reservation. Even though we had a reservation we had to wait almost half an hour to begin. We did the foam bomb mission and the explanations for the games were vague at times. The sequence and color game worked fine but the laser game did not function properly and the low battery game was poorly explained. The foam bomb mission had six controllers where u have to squeeze this ball that controls a Tetris game on the screen. We were told what each controller did but all of them look identical and one of them didn't even work. On top of everything the lady who charged me for my general ticket actually charged me for a premium ticket which is an additional $20 for the already expensive $40 adult ticket. The entire place is just sketchy and the games don't even function. Terrible business. read more

Im giving 3 stars because the Birthday party enjoyed getting blasted with paint. It has been 2 week since the Birthday party for my son and his friends. I was hoping to leave a better review, but it is what it is. From our side of view, the directions were not very clear and it was rather chaotic. Separated as 2 teams, they started at very different times (nearly 30 minutes apart instead of the same time), so we were essentially at the facility for 3.5 hours instead of 2. I had to ask the front desk after some time what we were supposed to be doing after they did the paint bomb. I had to ask about the drinks and food. I had to ask about the gamebay. The kids were pretty bored half way through their gamebay time, unfortunately but it seemed like we were already there forever waiting for guidance for a lot of things. I am pretty perturbed that eventhough I've been trying to communicate with customer service, I have not recieved the videos I paid for. Quite frankly, a group of 11-13 year old boys would no longer be interested in these videos anymore because to them 2 weeks is so yesterday. These kids would have enjoyed the videos, i would have shared them on my social media and yet that is not going to be the case. I'm thoroughly disappointed! read more

SOOOO much fun!!! First time here and we had the best experience ever! Emele greeted us and was super helpful, they let us start prior to our reservation too. Justyce took us over and was so kind, welcoming and engaging. They answered all our questions and were super enthusiastic about the game itself. The games were challenging but kept us laughing. It was so fun for the four of us to complete... we are super competitive so it was so much more fun than we expected. We just came from dinner so highly recommend not doing that haha. We didn't get to experience the food or drinks since we were so full but we did get a free drink token with the booking. After the game was great, they congratulated us on the time we won and helped us get suited up for the bomb challenge. Justyce was super thorough in explaining how it works before the directions even came on ghe screen. We beat the bomb and still chose to get blasted!!! The only critique I could give would be to have more paint in the cannons since 2 of us didn't get blasted much and a small amount of paint seeped through someone's jump suit since the zipper didn't work. Other than that this was still 10/10 experience and we will return! For winning we got stickers, our stat sheet and winner pins! We also received all of the pics and videos we took via email. This is place was SO MUCH FUN. We came for a team building experience. I was a little bummed they had to split us into two groups, but it just made the competition better between us. I had a couple of very minor issues and hope they find a way to address these for future guests. I'm colorblind, so a few of the tasks were extremely hard for me because color was involved. It would be nice if they could build in some sort of handicap to accommodate this because I really brought down my team in those situations. The other thing I'd love is for their staff to be trained to know what's in the paint. They say it's edible, which is great. However, a member of our party is gluten free and has several other allergies. She got paint in her mouth when the bomb exploded and she was worried she may have a reaction to it. We asked their staff what the paint ingredients were and no one seemed to know. Besides that, I had a BLAST (pun intended) in each room. This game is way different from escape rooms and other team building exercises. We bought a package that gave us the game, a drink at the bar, and a t-shirt. The slushy mixed drinks are strongggg. I got the blue one and was instantly taken away to somewhere on a beach. Highly recommend trying these.It really forces everyone to work together in tandem. We were so close to beating the bomb. I'd love to know what happens if you do. I'll definitely need to return to try one of the harder levels to see if we can. read more

The staff was ok. It was super frustrating that things were no clearly explained (not talking about the actual challenges, those are on the screen and easy to follow). We wasted over half our bay time, eating because they started it before we ordered. The hazmats suits zippers are broken so our clothes got wet/paint on them. They know this and they say make sure the velcro lines up - still a fail. It was so hot and stuffy in the rooms, most of my party left with a headache but the two things that topped the event were the locker was stuck (even though I took a picture of the code) and manager took the only key to them to make copies (thankfully an awesome employee got it open without the key) and woke up to 1200 in fraud charges on my credit card. Not saying it was beat the bomb for sure, but it sure is a coincidence that happened at 5am after leaving this place and it being the only place I used this card. read more
