Beauty Shop restaurant is located in the Cooper-Young district in a former 1940s-style beauty shop, also a Priscilla Presley's curl-and-dye spot. The original hair dryers add to the ambiance, the glass-bricked booths are delightful, and their American cuisine is served with a twist. Make a reservation via phone or the OpenTable app. The parking is all free street parking, so it can be a challenge on weekends. Upon entrance, the hostess is immediately to the right with a full bar to the left. There are some tables in the front of the restaurant, but there are the fun booths/hair dryers in the back. FOOD: 1. Steak & Eggs (Grilled ribeye, your choice of eggs, ponzu butter, onions, and truffle parmesan fries; 3/5): The steak was OK, not memorable enough for me to order again. 2. New Orleans Style Shrimp & Grits (Poached eggs, tobasco worcestershire garlic butter, and scallions; 3/5): This was quite salty for us. The presentation looked delicious otherwise. 3. Jamaican Jerk Fish Club (Jamaican cane vinegar aioli slaw, bacon, tomato, avocado, chips, and lemon marmalade; 4/5): This was our favorite of the brunch options above. I would order this again, as the vinegar aioli slaw really tied the fish with the other ingredients. 4. Crispy Vegetable Wontons (Kale, spinach, tofu, scallions, ginger, water chestnuts, cilantro, and jalapeno jam with mirin dipping sauce; 4/5): This is part of the dinner appetizer menu. I believe this usually comes with 4 dumplings, but we added another one for our party. This was pretty tasty with the delicious dipping sauce. 5. Thai Style Minced Chicken (Lettuce, mango chutney, labna, mint, rai rum, thai basil, shiso, peanuts, and dipping sauce 3/5): This is part of the dinner appetizer menu. It was OK, not memorable enough for me to order again. 6. Hawaiian Tuna Agua Chile (Tomato lime, toasted seeds, cucumber, Benton's prosciutto crisp, shiso, and cocoa spice; 3/5): This is part of the dinner appetizer menu. The tuna was not that fresh in my opinion, and it was OK overall. 7. Smashed Scallion and Goat Cheese Fingerling Potatoes (4/5): This is part of the dinner sides menu. The goat cheese tied this together, as it melted within the potatoes. We all really enjoyed this. The service was good. Our drinks never touched bottom. Our orders came out on time. Of note, there is 20% gratuity added to 5+ parties. Would I come back? It would not be at the top of my list. If someone wanted to, then sure.

I loved everything about this place from the food, service, and the drinks. We sat in a cute booth that had cute aesthetics and it was a great vibe overall.

I came here with my friends for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We arrived around 12:50pm and the hostess let us know that the next available table was at 1:30pm. We came back in a half hour and were able to be seated. We ordered a plate of beignets for the table, which were served with thinned out preserves. The beignets were still warm. Very sweet, but good. I ordered the pork carnitas, which was served on a toasted tortilla with eggs, cilantro, jalapeños, lime crema, and pineapple purée. The carnitas were a bit dry, but the dish was good. Our server was wonderful; very friendly and funny! The inside of the restaurant has some beauty-parlor-inspired decor, including the old style of hair dryers.

Quaint restaurants tend to perfect the "quaint" but not perfect the food. This place does both!!

Ambiance was nice, eclectic and inviting. We were seated promptly and received attention swiftly. Food was excellent with a special shout out to the tempura shrimp Appetizer with grilled avocado and corn fritter--it was the hands down winner of all we ordered! Steaks were seasoned and cooked perfectly. The chocolate pie was underwhelming but all in all it was a very enjoyable date night with a unique menu and atmosphere.

Absolute must-go. Super cool retro beauty shop vibe with the perfect music to match. If Edwin's behind the bar, you're set--great guy and makes a flawless cocktail. And if you've got time, hit the spot next door for live music... makes the whole night.

Dined here on a Wednesday evening around 6:30 PM in the Cooper-Young area. It was just starting to pick up, but since we had a reservation for 7, we were seated immediately. Our waitress, Abby, was fantastic! She appeared to be the only one covering the dining room, yet she handled everything seamlessly and didn't miss a beat. Service was quick and attentive throughout the evening. The decor is unique and true to the restaurant's name--Beauty Shop definitely has a distinct vibe. The space is on the smaller side, but still comfortable. The menu is very eclectic, offering a mix of items like curry, tempura shrimp, guacamole, and shiitake mushrooms. Some combinations were a bit unexpected (watermelon served with wings definitely caught me off guard), but overall the food was good--I'd rate it about a 7/10. We did have to send back the fries and fingerling potatoes because they came out cold, but Abby handled it right away with no hesitation and made sure everything was corrected. Overall, it was a solid experience. While the food wasn't quite enough to make me go out of my way to return, I'm glad I had the chance to try it.

If you haven't been here, you need to go! The food here is fabulous big portions. You will not be disappointed. My daughter had duck ex Benedict. I had the steak and eggs, and the kids all had pancakes. The chocolate pancakes were the bomb! Our server was very attentive and their bloody Mary is a good too great place to go and it has a wonderful history.

We went to this restaurant for a team dinner. Lee was the server . He was customer friendly but busy. The cocktails were delicious. The ambiance was casual and the noise level was low. The steak was tender and savory . The wings were ok! The monkey bread was absolutely the best!

Great food, amazing atmosphere, the BLT was to die for!! The drinks are good and strong! You must try the bloody mary! The service was just okay, could have been better!

It's always a boozy brunch at the beauty shop. The ambiance is inviting and wait times are pretty normal for food (10-15 min). Appetizers came out in under 10 and getting our drinks was a breeze especially for a Sunday. While they don't serve mimosa carafes, they have the "big boy" mimosa that gets your day started. Now if it were spiked? Whew!? Then we're talking. I enjoyed my steak and eggs made to my liking and my server Keith was very attentive. Highly suggest you make this spot a must on your Sunday-funday.

I've been wanting to check out Beauty Shop for a while, and it definitely lived up to the hype! It's always booked, so I highly recommend making a reservation. We had a reservation for 7, and they were great at accommodating seats for everyone. The vibe is gorgeous, and the atmosphere makes for a great dining experience. Everything we ordered was excellent--great apps, drinks, and food! I got the duck, and it did not disappoint. I can't wait to come back for brunch and try more of the menu. Highly recommend!

Absolutely loved this restaurant! The set up is so chic and well put together and the service was amazing! We were immediately greeted and constantly checked on through our dining. The food was also amazing! The owner even came out and was checking on guests and bussing tables. You don't see that often, you can tell she really cares for her business and does what she can to make a stellar experience

Went to Boscos to celebrate my birthday with friends. The restaurant was clean and inviting…read more I started off with a bowl of cream of asparagus soup. It was creamy and flavorful. It was so good. Next I had a Teriyaki salmon bowl with pickled vegetables, rice and edamame. It was delicious. I have ordered it before. Very tasty! Service was excellent. Charlie is a superb server. She was nice, friendly and attentive. I will return to try other entrees and dishes.

A Solid Mid-South Microbrewery Experience…read more The layout gives you two distinct vibes: a dark bar with moody, intermittent lighting that holds its own even in the daylight, or a bright, breezy outdoor patio. There's also a great horseshoe of seating centered around the wood-fire pizza oven if you want to watch the kitchen in action. The Flight Coming from the DC area, an 8-count flight for $16 feels like a steal. I went in thinking it was a 6-count, but I'm not complaining about the extra mileage. Here was the breakdown: - Famous Flaming Stone: Interesting technique using hot stones from the oven. Smooth and easy-drinking, but don't expect a "crisp" finish. - Isle of Skye Scottish Ale: Malty and dark. The vanilla hints in the aroma and the finish are exactly where they should be. - The Garrison (ESB): Not bitter at all and easy to drink, but lacks the "wow factor" to make it a standout. - Midtown Brown: This is a classic English nut brown ale. If you like dark beers, this delivers exactly what it is. Citra Brown: This was a DNF for me. I'm firmly Team Midtown Brown on this one. - Wee Heavy: A "bodied up" version of the Scottish Ale. This would be my preference over the Isle of Skye for the extra weight. - Boscos Noir IPA: As a fan of black IPAs, I enjoyed this. Not the best I've ever had, but definitely good. - Bombay IPA: A fantastic capstone. Even after a heavy flight, this was a solid, high-quality finish. The Food I ordered the Spicy Italian Pizza. The wood-fire crust is the winner here--it delivers a light char without being crunchy or burnt. It's structurally sound (no "flop and drop" with the toppings) and has a nice outer crispness while maintaining a soft bite. There is something unique about the dough that I couldn't quite put my finger on, but it was a pleasant surprise. Expect a bit of grease from the sausage and pepperoni, though it's more visual than a flavor issue. The hot peppers were arranged well and not overdone. The mushrooms did get a bit lost among the more overpowering ingredients, but overall, it's a solid "no regrets" bar pizza. The Service - Friendly and efficient across the board. Extra kudos to the food delivery guy--great energy. This isn't necessarily the pizza you'll run to tell all your friends about, but with the high-value flights and the great atmosphere, it's a dependable, high-quality local spot in the Square.
