For Father's Day, dad wanted to go to brunch at complicated pilgrim, which is located at the Memphian Hotel in midtown. Dad loved it! We ordered the bacon deviled eggs as a starter, which was delicious. For my entree, I ordered the Pilgrim Wrap, which included scrambled eggs, avocado, and sausage. It was sooooo good! Especially paired with sriracha sauce all in all, I can say that it's a great brunch spot. The service was excellent and it's absolutely beautiful inside as well! The breakfast potatoes, egg whites with pepper jack cheese, biscuit and turkey sausage were all very tasty. I didn't care for the Blood Orange Screwdriver because it lacked flavor and was extremely watered down. The pineapple mimosa was good, but a bit tart. I decided to treat myself to a nice lunch the other day and I wanted to try something new so decided on The Complicated Pilgrim in The Memphian Hotel. I'd heard some great things about it so here's my chance. Surprisingly it was very slow, I had a wonderful waiter he went over the menu options and answered my questions. I ordered the Steak Frites. As I waited for my food I was able to explore the restaurant. It's beautifully decorated, I love all of the textures and vibrant colors throughout. The bathrooms were also beautiful. There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy including a table or two outside. This restaurant is inside of a hotel so if you indulge in a few too many happy hour cocktails you may need to get a room. BYW Happy Hour starts at 2:00 Weekdays. My food was delicious and my dining experience was amazing. I will definitely be back for cocktails. read more

I wanted this place to be amazing. The decor is so fun and funky. BUT the service is terrible! We arrived at 6:10, and finally got food at 6:40. The servers are just not accommodating and friendly. No one even apologized for the long wait in a not busy dining room. I think it's probably just the norm there, because I've heard of others with similar experiences. The complimentary herb biscuits were really quite good, so we were looking forward to a nice meal. We ordered several appetizers- the Harissa Octopus, Brussels Sprouts, the Potstickers, and the Roasted Beets. We love Octopus. Theirs is terrible and not well cooked. The Brussels Sprouts were good, and my husband like the potstickers. I give the decor a 5, service 0, and food a generous 2. We have no reason to return. read more

We visited the Complicated Pilgrim to celebrate a graduation and overall it was a good experience. The atmosphere was elegant and upscale and we had a great server. As for the food we tried the ravioli, pork chops and the pot stickers. The pork chops were tender and well-seasoned and the smoked pulled pork pot stickers were a nice starter with quite a unique twist. While everything tasted good, nothing particularly stood out to make us feel like we had to come back. It's fine if you are already in the area or looking for a nice night out but we wouldn't go out of our way to return. Still, for a celebration or an elevated dining experience in Memphis it is a solid choice. If you do end up going, start at the bar and grab a nice cocktail. Enjoyed the food! Went for Fathet's day and ordered from the special and regular menu. For the 3-course special, we choose lollipop wings for appetizers a country fried fish for the entree, and a cheesecake dessert. From the regular menu, we ordered a glazed pork chop served with veggies. Both were perfectly made. Drinks were light and refreshing. It was nicely decorated and it seems that there an opportunity to make it a more private dining experience by pulling the curtains - we did not request it so I'm not sure. It was not crowded even on a holiday so it seems off the beaten path. They do similar specials for shows at hattiloo and the ballet. I definitely plan to return. read more

Started out very slow, in terms of someone taking our order and getting our order out, but initially loved the Hot Air Balloon and G&G for drinks. The samosas and Brussels were a fantastic starter, but the rolls and killer sorghum butter stole the show! My husband got the Airline chicken and I got a Caesar with salmon. The chicken dish was very nice, and the salmon tasted great, but the salad was underwhelming. Bagged parmesan and chopped romaine... seems like they need to add their culinary flair to the salad, or at least the dressing. Complicated Pilgrim has some of the best scallops and cocktails in town. The sear on their scallops is almost like a crust. Every restaurant should sear their scallops like this. They have great classic cocktails and creative specialty cocktails. I've been here a few times with family and for business meals. They have large windows for ample natural lighting, but I find that I prefer the atmosphere at night. In my opinion, the service isn't typically up to par with other restaurants at the same price point. Overall, it's a great spot to try, and I'm sure I'll be back soon. read more

The situation was quite complicated on my first vist to Complicated Pilgrim. As a wheelchair user I always check an establishments accessible accommodations declaration on the website so there are no surprises. According to the website, this place was on point in being accessible for wheelchair users. It was on Friday, Feb 13, 2026 that I attempted to experience the Adult Happy Hour Meal (the hours were from 2pm to 5pm) at Complicated Pilgrim. Upon arrival, at 4:26 p.m. I proceeded to the hostess stand hoping I could place my order quickly. I was not aware that the Adult Happy Hour Meal could only be served at the Bar! So, in humiliation I thought...so wheelchair users dont get to enjoy Happy Hour?? While Im inquiring what my options were without an available space to dine, a female manager emerged from the back and informed me that I could order My Happy Meal, sit in the dining room, but at 5 p.m., I would have to exit because the dining room was fully booked for the evening. At that point I was devastated after driving 45 minutes, finding parking, only to be told I would need to hurry and eat but be gone by 5pm. My question, do you accommodate wheelchair users during Adult Happy Hour Meal or only people who can sit at the bar?? read more

My husband and I took advantage of the weekend 3 course meal special. We started our first course with fried green tomatoes. They were very good but I suffered burns to the roof of my mouth that took 3 days to heal. I told our waitress that they really should tell guest that it's extremely hot and you can't tell until you bite into it and to wait a couple of minutes before attempting to eat. For the second course, he ordered the crab stuffed trout and I had the pot roast. I requested that the chef try to give me a serving that was less fatty but that was unsuccessful. I ended up only eating half of the serving bc I hate fat! It was good but it would have been great had there been less fat. For dessert, I had the key lime cheesecake. Not my favorite. I ate 1 bite. It was gritty and not worth the calories. He had a dirty martini and I had a chocolate martini. They were both delicious and well made. Just before I started this review, I received a bill in the mail from the city of Memphis for $30 for our illegally parked car. Mind you, our car was valet parked by staff, service that was offered for free. Fortunately, our car records incidents and there was an incident bc the valet parker used the wrong key to gain entry to our car and we paid him a tip through cash app. Someone owes us $30! Not cool! Customers beware. Overall, the meal and service were very good and we'd eat here again but I'd order a different dish and bot trust our car to the valet. read more

This is such a nice spot! I feel you can go here anytime of day to just unwind from everything. They have a good wine and bar menu, the ambiance is super nice and chic, and the service is really good! Complicated Pilgrim is connected to the Memphian in the heart of the Cooper/Madison area. There is more than enough room to bring a group along or to just fly solo. I would say this is also a great spot to have a meeting since it's not overcrowded. The food menu is pretty limited, but they are new so that may change since they are pretty new. I had the brussel sprouts. They were good. I liked the sauce they were in. It is kinda like a sweet and spicy with nuts on them. The only thing is they had a super charcoaled taste to them, so I had to peel the top layer to enjoy them.
