Just to update my experience after giving them another chance, I stand by my initial horrible review for this beauty supply. They say they close at 6pm on Sunday, I got there exactly at 5:30pm and their doors are closed. You can still see inside through the screen door. A worker was so rude when asking why they're closing earlier than what's on the schedule. He also let a woman inside, leaving me and another woman waiting there with no acknowledgment. He just kept slamming the door shut yelling out "closed!" I hate unprofessional & rude customer service. This is about Lydia. Yesterday (July 21, 2018) I went to the Beauty Supply Warehouse. I was looking for an Aphogee Curl product. I decided at the last minute that I wanted to buy a cheap pair of earrings. The earrings were locked in a case on the counter as you walk in. The woman (Lydia) helped me. Once she unlocked to case she took the earrings to the checkout counter. Now..... I have shopped here for YEARS and have spent a lot of money here and they know me and my 89 year old mom as a friendly face. The Latin guys who work there knows us and they're always professional and courteous. This woman Lydia acted like I was going to steal a $7 pair of earrings that were over priced to begin with, but I need them to go with an outfit. Yet, the hair product was $10. She didn't bother to carry that to the counter. By the way, you guessed it, I'm a Brown female. When I got to the cashier, I asked the cashier the woman's name. She told me Lydia. The worst customer service EVER! went their when I got off work, rushed over from San Francisco, because they closed at 7:30. When I arrived their it was 7:23. Two ladies were standing outside, they seen me park my car. When I got out my car to go in, the doors were closed. I opened it and ask if I could get one thing and she said "were closed'. I said "it's only 7:23, I just need one thing"! She refused to let me in. I then said your hours says 7:30, that's not good customer service.. Others came behind me and said the samething. Added 8/30/17: Spent upwards of $1000 here over the past couple of years. Yaki's and other supplies. They watch you like a hawk, hovering and giving you the stink eye, as if you are going to steal something. I get it, but give me a break--it's overkill. Last time I went in, same treatment, purchased several items totaling over $100. One item was lotion. About a week later, I went to use the lotion and discovered it was liquefied. Like water! Tried to return and they said it was past the seven day time limit. What? Their product is expired and the chemical make up is no longer intact. See photo. But, no refunds or exchanges past seven days! BAAAAD BUSINESS!!! Previous review: This place has a large selection of products and an almost overwhelming selection of wigs and hair pieces. That being said, the employees follow you, I suppose trying to prohibit theft, in an intimidating way. Every aisle I went to, the employee stood next to me and watched, then as I was testing various cosmetics, the owner came up to me and scolded me to make sure that I was using only the testers. I was obviously not opening any of the packages and was only using the testers for color accuracy. As soon as she walked away, another employee came and stood by, watching me, again. My fave shop in the Bay thus far. Large variety of hair (wigs, weaves, braiding hair) and large selection of hair products. They are my one stop shop, especially when I'm being indecisive about what direction I'm going with my next hair style. They don't allow large bags and have lockers in the front of the store. BEWARE!! When I want a weave I want it done RIGHT. No lumps, no bumps and most importantly NO RATCHET ASS HAIR. So I normally get my hair from LA (Not bougie, just guaranteed great hair quality) and due to a minor miscommunication my hairstylist only bought one bundle for my hair so I needed more hair to blend into my sew in. Nowadays everyone is selling Brazilian this and Indian that but i just don't trust these hair slanging hustlas out here, you feel me? So I decided to cut my losses and go to this beauty supply since its large and boasts a nice sized hair selection. When I got there, the customer service was nice and everyone was helpfu. I met a nice gentleman that led me to the "best" hair they had. Brazilian Remy and it was "raw". He also mentioned they had a great deal on bundles and I could get 3 12 inch bundles for $119.00. i mean he really sold me on this hair before I could even focus on the broad selection of packaged hair. It sounded too good to be true but ME being the sucker for a great deal - I bought it. My stylist sewed it in and it was nice, light and flowy, I thought I was winning. 2 DAYS later I noticed a difference. The hair was stiffening as if I had put a bunch of product in it, which I did NOT. I used no products on this hair. My stylist was still in town at the time and suggested I wash it. I did. All. Hell. Broke. Loose. That hair was hot shit. Excuse my language, but it literally crawled up my neck and matted like an angry birds nest. The hair had its own life y'all. I had to wear it in a bun to prevent it from shedding, tangling, and throwing up gang signs in the back of my head!! This was only day three, mind you, one day after washing the "Brazilian" Kunta Kente hair. Immediately after work on day 3, I went home and grabbed the unused bundled and headed here to get a refund. The most dense associate "helped me" (most likely the owner) had the nerve to try to deny me a refund saying he didn't know if I purchased the horse hair from him. I was absolutely livid. Here is my thing. Weave, as superfluous as it might be, is EXPENSIVE. Don't try to sell me diamonds when you know damn well you're peddling cubic zirconias. Don't try to play me that is disrespectful sir and it makes me want to call you a mutha -- let me shut my mouth. Long story short, after MUCH hassle he only refunded me for ONE BUNDLE of the Barbie doll wire he sold me. I purchased another brand of hair (Bohyme Silky Straight, still using this and its causing no problems after 1.5 months btw) and politely told this clown I would never return. I used to LOVE this Beauty Supply Store but after that day, my wallet became completely allergic to this business. My advice: If you want great hair go where you are appreciated. This beauty supply store is huge, it's literally the size of a warehouse. There's always people sectioned off in each "department" to walk you through any needs and questions you may have. Most of them are super duper helpful! Like other reviewers have stated, this place has everything in every scent for every hair need. Prices are reasonable and it's so fun to go through smelling and trying everything out. There's a little woman who helps you out in the wig section, helping you to find colors and styles, she even helps you put them on. Worst experience ever today. I'll never go back to this location again. Wish I could give zero stars! I'm walking through the store and I ask this short Latin guy for ic thermal spray because I'm looking around everywhere and I can't find it. He tells me they don't have it. The cashier points me to the direction of the sharpeners and I begin to pick out which color I like. The short Asian lady starts saying 1.49.. Which color you like repeatedly. Even after I pick which color I like & was paying for both of my items! I was being racially profiled and that was not right. I didn't have a big bag or a bag at all for that matter. Just my wallet and my daughter. There was no reason for that lady to press me about a 1.49 pencil sharpener. She also flipped me off on my way out the lot. DON'T SHOP HERE!!!! I was looking for a specific shampoo and had shopped here before. They had the shampoo. AFTER using the shampoo I noticed the expiration date on it was 2009!!! Nearly four years old - unacceptable. As I was sniffing and comparing, I realized that for some products I was familiar with - the prices were higher than on drugstore.com.......hmmmmm. BEWARE! CONSUMER PROTECTION BUREAU needs to review this business for the protection of consumers. My mother came to this store to purchase a hair care item. Unfortunately she was encountered by a rude cashier (who I believe is the owner) that caused my mother significant emotional distress as her safety was threatened as well. My mother asked for another bottle of the same product she was purchasing due to a defect she noticed at the time of checkout. The cashier threw the product in my mothers face and said she doesn't need the $10 from my mother (which was the price of the product). My mother was stunned - the cashier proceeded to yell at my mother for no apparent reason and made gestures towards my mother as if she was going to physically force my mother out of the store for simply requesting a new bottle. This is unbelievable and the last straw with this company. I have also experienced terrible customer service at this store that includes aggressive following and changing prices at the counter to make items more expensive than what was advertised. It's a shame that a company like this still has their doors open. This store should be evaluated for their business practices and shutdown if possible. There has been too many years of this poor service that has finally driven me to leave this review. After looking for a certain product at every beauty supply I could think of in Oakland, Vallejo, Berkeley, Pittsburg and Antioch I really scored here. Not only did they have the product I need, but the friendly cashier put the items on hold for me at the front of the store, since they were about to close (I didn't know their store hours). The items were held overnight and I was relieved they were still on hold when I went in. The store was tidy and organized and just as large as it's sister stores. They have a large parking lot, which I appreciated, because some of the other local supplies do not and street parking can be shady and expensive. I will definitely be back. read more
