After two and a half years of pandemic and early parenthood, I took some time to make myself artificially better looking a few weeks back, booking my first appointment with microblading expert Gyoungsil Han since 2019. Gyoungsil works out of a small, functional room inside LEEKAJA Hair Bis, the hair salon in the Madang plaza on Wilshire and Western. I've gone to her (and her old partner Lucy, per my previous review) a few times over the years, in two or three different spots, but she seems to have settled here, or has been here, in any case, since before COVID. It's a good spot, and easy to access for customers. The plaza has plentiful garage parking, and I think it's usually free with validation. The entrance is a little confusing, though. I believe it's on Manhattan, and it might only have signs for H Mart. My eyebrows are naturally thin and light, so without significant help, I kind of might as well not have them. Microblading has been a blessing since I first started getting it done in my twenties, and Gyoungsil is my preferred practitioner. I don't know enough about eyebrows to tell her what to do, but every time, she manages to make my brows look just the way I want. She's also great at making the process comfortable and relatively painless, which is not nothing when you're dealing with topical numbing cream and innumerable cuts from a small knife. I probably wouldn't do this if it were a once-a-month thing--it costs $300 before tip (payable through VenMo) and again, it involves a knife on your face--but microblading makes my eyebrows look good for well over a year (and last time, I didn't even bother with the touch-up a month later). I'm grateful that this service exists, and unless my brows stop being sad and wispy, I will remain a loyal Beautyholic customer. read more

I got microblading and a lash lift in the same day and I love how they turned out!!! (I waited to write this review until two weeks later to make sure I was still happy, which I am.) Ms. Han was very kind with nice bedside manner and she made me feel comfortable. She is so talented and skilled! She was kind enough to give me a discount since I got two services. She drew in my brows first to make sure I liked the shape (which I really loved) and also waxed around my brows. While the anesthesia was setting for my brows, she did my lashes. Afterwards, she sent me home with ointment and aftercare instructions. I'm so pleased with the result and my new brows frame my face so much better. My lashes also turned out AMAZING!! I got an eyebrow wax and some of my skin came off. :( I didn't even notice until I got into the car and it started hurting. Han didn't acknowledge this until I brought it up, and she said (see picture below). I have been having my eyebrows waxed for over 10 years now, and this is the first time this has happened. The eyebrow shaping was uneven, too. My left side has a sharper and harsher arc. I also don't recommend the lash lift for short straight lashes, or if you have hard-to-curl lashes. My left side is straightening up already (I just got home form the place), and the curl is barely visible. I tried voicing concerns before the session but Han just nodded and started immediately so I thought I could trust her. Been coming here for eyelash curl for a year now. Service is great but one star removed because Han will sometimes do extra services that I've not requested, like an eyelash tint on top of the curl when I didn't request. This happened twice now even though after the first time I made it a point to always reiterate what I was getting serviced for on day of visit. Because I like her work and want to continue supporting it's not a deal breaker for me but definitely something to be aware of. read more

Ms. Han is simply the BEST. I come to her for Brazilian waxes, and honestly she does them perfectly. I've tried out 3 other popular salons, but none come close to her work. She has extremely good technique. She works quickly, so you can get it over with asap. I think my sessions tend to last 20-30 minutes and she tries to get the waxes on you quickly, and before you know it you're done! She also is super detailed and will tweeze a little at the end, and put some soothing aloe afterwards. She is also super friendly. I always come nervous to her, and she is super comforting, friendly, and will talk with me in Korean about anything, while she works quickly on me. 20 minute eyebrow session for $25?? Yes please!! I just got my eyebrows done today; it's my first time getting them done in my life, so when I found this place in Ktown and saw what they offered/pricing, I immediately made an appointment. I am beyond happy with the results, my eyebrows never looked better. The lady who tended to me (I didn't get her name sadly) was very nice, professional, and quick! During our session, she let me know that she'll be tattooing and microblading my brows because I needed fuller brows for her to shape it into my desired straight brow look. I trusted her and am pleased with her work! I enjoyed the treatment as well, it was pretty soothing. The salon itself was a little tricky to find; it is in the plaza with the H Mart, Somi Somi, K-pop store, the cinema, and the Daiso on Wilshire and Manhattan. Just park in the general parking structure (they validate parking at the eyebrow salon). This review is way overdue. I started to come to her for waxing but that was the only beginning! It was my first time waxing but she made me comfortable with whole process. I kept coming back for more session and I also did eyebrow, which I had my old permanent one turning to grey like a old woman. She redid it for me with brown color and she fixed the asymmetry of my eyebrows as well!! I did not stop there, next, I did my eye-line. She did it so natural so it doesn't look too obvious. I have been coming here on and off for lash lifts before vacation for two years now - and I still love it! It's definitely more of a no-frill kind of place, it's located in a side room of a Korean salon, and just has a simple bed and equipments in it. I don't care much for atmosphere (especially when my eyes are taped shut the whole time!) so it's perfect for me that you get a better price ($50) sacrificing the cute eyelash salon feel (usually $70+). Han is super nice and responds to texts very quickly, and I've never had to wait once I got to the appointment. The lash lift is quick and comfortable, and the results are amazing considering I have super stubborn droopy eyelashes that grow sideways, and they're always nicely fanned out and lifted after. There was only one time where the curl wasn't as lifted, and I assumed that was from getting it done 3 months in a row? For me, the lift starts dropping a bit after 3 weeks, and starts getting messy about 4-5 weeks in from new hair growing in. Han specifically tells you not to use waterproof mascara, but I have very oily lids so I use waterproof mascara anyway lol. So if you have to, using waterproof mascara doesn't completely ruin it! I just use a curler to give them a boost in the morning. Parking is easy and validated, but make sure to get directed to the H Mart lot!! I have mistakenly turned into the next door lot before (entering on western), and that turned out to be a $15 mistake. read more

Made an appointment over text with Han the day before, and only had to wait a little bit for the client before me to finish up. First time trying a keratin lash lift. I've been using lash serums for years and my lashes have decent length now and after seeing a friend's lash perm results I decided to try one for myself. Han's pricing is really affordable, and if you do the Yelp checkin she may have a discount going for your first visit. I'm really happy with the results although I'll have to remember to not use waterproof mascara on them now. It lasts about 8 weeks and I can't really tolerate extensions anymore so paying for serum and lifts is more affordable for me and also more comfortable for my eyes. Extensions always got itchy for me and would fall off and one time, broke my existing lashes. I'm excited to have a new option that takes about an hour with minimal discomfort, my eyes watered a little during the process but no pain or anything like that. Han was very sweet, efficient, and organized. Parking: since it's in the HMart complex you can park in the big structure and get validation for 4 free hours from the salon Han's little Suite is in. Just go to unit 205/206 by the escalators, and tell them you're there for Beautyholic. Even though I got validated, the lady working the exit gate didn't even check and just had the gate open. I definitely was not expecting to take the greatest nap of my life while someone is working on my eyelashes. It is initally nerve-wracking to have someone so near to my eyes and does take some adjustment on my part to relax enough to let her do her job. But this lady is super professional and very good at her job. She recommended that I come see her 4 weeks after getting my lashes done and since I am so cheap I haven't. Its been almost 2 months since and my lashes are still curled and looking cute. I appreciated her candid comments about how I should not get extensions done if I felt nervous and had a tendency to rub my eyes. She was very clear about her instructions and helped me have such a wonderful nap. I've gotten my eyebrows micro-bladed here twice over the past year and a half and the results have always been great! Han was great at shaping my brows to fit my face shape and the micro-blading came out to look very natural. I recently also got a lash lift with Han as well and the results don't disappoint! Come get your lash lift here! Han does an AMAZING JOB!! She's very meticulous & prices are very reasonable ($50). The lift lasts for about 6-8 weeks. In my opinion, it's way better than getting eyelash extensions. After you get the lift, just avoid washing your face for at least 3 hours and putting mascara on for at least 24 hours. I got my eyebrows tattooed by Han about two weeks ago and I am absolutely in love with them!!!! Not only does she know what shape of eyebrows make you look good, but also she knows the way to keep your own eyebrows as much as possible so they look natural and last longer. 1) Shape : When I met Han, I told her that I wanted my eyebrow shape to be flat to compensate my high cheekbone. She said that would make my cheekbone standout; yet, she drew them so that I could see, and oh boy was she correct. Then she drew how she would draw them if she were me; flat from the root to arch and slight curve to the end. That shape made my look much softer, which I had always wanted. 2) Duration : My friends who had their eyebrows done by other designers complained that their tattooo didn't last longer than a week. Han is amazing! I have had my lash tattoo and eyebrows done elsewhere but was never really satisfied. She also has amazing reviews so I thought I was just being too picky and had my expectations too high. My brows have some empty spots because she brushed my brows up and just filled it in when I asked for natural brows, but my brow hairs don't naturally stay that was so it looks bald in those spots. When I went back and explained the issue, she just did the same thing so, I just tried to live with the problem. Not to mention I had to tell her that my brows were too black for my hair. Maybe in florescent lighting, my black brows match my hair but in the sun... Looked ridiculous. I also got my lash enhancement by the same lady and she just did a thin line that didn't even fill my whole lash line vertically or horizontally. The tattoo faded away to almost nothing so I had to get it touched up 3 times with no success in retaining the color. I honestly love symmetry and above all I wanted the technician to understand what looks good on who depending on how their facial shape is and such. Unfortunately the last technician failed to get the little details right but Han has the attention to detail that takes her work to the next level. She pays attention to symmetry as well as your face when drawing out my eyeliner. I have weird Asian eyes that makes it so that one side shows more liner than the other if I draw them, but when Han drew it..... Not to mention that Han actually filled in my whoooooooole lash line width and lengthwise(even into the crevice of my inner corner) so that the liner looks good from all directions. This is what I expected my lash line would look the first 3 time around. WOW. I definitely recommend. She is truly an artist and not just a technician. I want to learn the skills from her. Well it's been a month and I'm due for a follow up. I went in for my mink eyelash extensions with Han 2 weeks prior to this review. They are looking great and they feel amazing. It's like I don't have anything on. I've been to another shop where the lashes were really heavy and the glue was caked on really thick. Han's artistry is nothing short of magic. The lashes looked so natural and the weightless feel made me switch from the other salon. I can't think of getting my lashes done elsewhere. She was very quick with the application too. I came for a Brazilian wax as a first time customer. I've been getting Brazilians regularly for over a year and was excited to find a salon close to my house. The beautician, Han, was very gentle and sweet. She checked in with me throughout the process to reassure me when I seemed nervous and to make sure the wax wasn't too hot. I did have to ask her not to double dip the sticks used for the wax. But once I did she was very accommodating to my request. Compared to other places, Han is THOROUGH! She made sure every single hair was removed during the waxing process and by tweezing afterwards. I've never experienced such attention to detail and really appreciated it! In terms of price ($49), it's only slightly below average. But compared to other places the service is stellar for the price. Other points of comparison - she uses honey wax, which is pretty gentle but not totally painless. Personally, I'm a fan of hard wax which is the least painful. While thorough, the process took a lot longer than I'm used to. The waxing chains are super fast and efficient so coming here was much more of a salon experience. Overall I would definitely recommend if you're in the Koreatown area but watch out for the double dipping! Thank you, Han! read more
