Go try Chau! She is amazing. Gentle with great precision. I enjoyed the massage and her attention to details. Bring cash for no tax. Great!

Full set by Ruby!! Christmas vibes

I highly reccomend ruby for nails! Usually I get my lashes done and she is great at both !! But her expertise is lashes :) everyone at the salon is so friendly they take walk ins but I reccomend making an appt bc they may be busy that day. Love the way this set turned out . It was exactly what I wanted and she did all the nail art so quickly and beautifully

After care wipes! They're soothing and have a nice fragrance!

The truth?? I was scared!! The process?? Stings a bit! No pain, no gain! The result?? Amazing!! There are so many options when it comes to getting semi-permanent/permanent eyebrows done. But, when Microblading was introduced to me ~5 years ago, I thought about it...just never had the guts to do it. Today, with all of the testimonials on YouTube, live videos on Facebook, Instagram, and of course Yelp, I was educated enough to finally get some work done. In the end, I decided to go with Modern Artistry PMU (Permanent Make Up) because of the "natural" artistic options available. I cannot recommend Yen Cao of Modern Artistry enough. She's personable, sweet, and a great artist! She even teaches a course if you're interested in getting certified (my friend received her certification from Yen's class and now owns her own business in San Diego). It's been 2 months now since my first appointment with Yen, so I'm brave enough to share the result. Initial visit was early September and touch-up was in November. My brows do have hair. They just aren't full enough to have a defined look on their own. After submitting a profile photo of my natural face through text, Yen suggested "Pencil Effect with Shading" since I told her I was going for a "natural" look. Overall, I was envisioning a subtle darkening of my existing brows. The initial process took about 3 hours which included completing paperwork - contact info & signing waivers. "Before" photos were taken, followed by drawing in the new brows to get my approval before the semi-permanent work with the needle began. Brand new needles were used with the tool. Yen showed me the new packages and opened them up in front of me. One for the hair strokes and the other for shading. After completion of the service, "After" photos were taken. She will even share them with you, just ask. A few images might also be posted on her social media pages FYI. After care instructions included After-care Wipes and a small capsule of topical ointment to use every night until the product was gone. For the next five days, I was instructed not to get my brows wet with water. Washing my face and hair were a bit challenging for a few days, but I did it! It's the same process with the touch-up (recommended 45 days after initial visit). Like I said in the beginning, I really love the result! I haven't manually filled in my brows since September and it should last at least 18 months. What a time saver!! You'll go through phases of LOVE, OMG it's too dark, and OH No it's scabbing! It just takes a few days for the skin to heal and the color to finally settle in. There are other services that Yen offers too, such as waxing, facials, and of course, permanent make-up. I'm thinking about getting a facial done within a month or two! Ahh, the price of beauty....

Came here on a Groupon years ago when they were just a Nail Shop. The next time I came was when a friend referred me to see Ruby for permanent eyebrows. She was great and I was satisfied! I loved it so much I brought my bff to do her eyebrows too. A few weeks later she told me she had a lot of compliments on her eyebrows. I'm back again for a retouch with Master Artist and owner Yen Cao. She is wonderful and ever so gracious n humble. She shared that they are expanding the business and will be providing more skin care. I look for to my next visit.

I had my lashes done by Chau more than hand full of times, and every time she is very gentle and is always checking if I am comfortable. Love the outcome of every set I've tried with her! Her hands as gentle as they can get, you won't even notice she's working on your lashes. I'd recommend the hybrid set if you like your lashes to be full and the natural classic set is also great if you like it more on the natural side. I've always tried to do home care (basic cleaning of the lashes) at least every other day and I've noticed that helped my lashes to last at least 2 - 2.5 weeks. As for the lash brushes she gives at the end of the appointment, they are so cute and lasts for such a long time! Love these brushes

Always a great experience with Yen. Awesome as always.

Always a great experience with Yen. Awesome as always. Will be seeing you soon for my eyeliner work. If you can't get an appointment with the master herself. She has a very talented staff that is trained under her. Very modern interior, friendly staff and super clean. Highly recommend Check them out!

Warning!! If they someone from this company messages you and asks you if you want to be a model just know that you will be their practice dummy. One of their employees messaged me and asked me if I wanted to be a model and I said yes thinking that it was for her who I know is experienced. (She did my sister's lashes) fast forward to the day, I get there and I find out that it's for their students. I should have stuck to my own rules and not let them do it, but I traveled that far already so I gave it a shot. Bad move. I told my artist that I wanted a Volume wispy with 17mm spikes. And she said ok with a very confused look on her face. That should have been clue #1. So I'm laying down and she puts the pads under my eyes and I'm not sure what happened, but I told her my left eye was uncomfortable, something was on it that wasn't supposed to be there. So she adjusted and it felt like she put it right back in the same spot so I told her again. And then instantly both if my eyes started watering non stop. Mind you, at one point in my life before I had my daughter I was getting my lashes done consistently every 2 weeks and this has never happened. As a matter of fact, I had my lashes done in the beginning of August my this wonderful artist, the same thing I had asked for here, and it waswonderful. No burning eyes or nothing. Anyways, yes my eyes were watering non stop and her teachers were all around me trying to figure something out, but they continued to let her use me as a test dummy. I mean at that point, the smart thing would be to take over for your student because lash extensions aren't something that should be played with. And i assumed that they did replace her, but nope it was her still. But ok I guess... So I ask her what time it is and she says 2:15. (Almost 2 hours into my appt) I tell her ok, can you make it as even as possible because I gotta go (I needed to get back to my baby) but and she said ok. But right after I asked her if she was almost done so I said ok let's just finish them then. Now she's done, but I can feel my eyes burning already and I didn't even open them yet. So I feel her pulling something off of my eyelids and I ask jer if that's Glue and she says yes. Like holy shit, no wonder my eyes are burning. It was as if she glued my top and bottom lid together. Like um hello?? And her teachers didn't try and help her AT ALL. Finally, I open my eyes, burning like he'll of course and I feel like something is poking both of them. Lashes looked so stringy and I was so embarrassed with them on. I'm the idiot who paid so that's my bad. And I still tipped her because, again, im an idiot. I wish I took pictures, ugh, it was terrible. By the time I got to my truck, I had lashes falling off, taking my real lash with them. I sat in my car for 30 minutes maybe even more because my eyes were burning, I still had Glue where it shouldn't have been, and I had to figure out what was poking my eyes. It was painful, my eyes were bloodshot. They lasted 3 days tops, and I finally had to take them off because the lashes on my right eye on the inner corner was bothering my eyes. So now I have no lashes at all, so embarrassing my left eye has a huge bald spot that is so noticeable. And on top of all of that, the spot where the lashes was bothering my eye, I now have a pimple growing under my eyelid. Like umm ok, that's not a coincidence. I messaged them and gave them some tips about placements and having her practice more on a mannequin head and I was really polite about it because I get it shes just starting out, but ok then don't practice on actual people yet, eyes are nothing to play with. And they asked me if there was anything they could do and I said yes can i have a refund. I got left on read. Then I said ok what if one of the experienced lash artist do my lashes for free for redemption and I got left on read again. Like don't even ask me if there is anything that you guys can do if that's the case. Oh and she was trying to tell me it was my fault why myeyes were burning because the Glue didn't have enough time to dry. Um oh the glue was pretty dry hence rhe reason she was pulling it off of my eyelids, lol. But I was gonna argue that, I just wanted to find a solution. I wish I could post the messages and the picture of my eye with the pimple. Definitely DO NOT recommend this company, all they care about is money.

Calling out Nicky for complaining about how picky I am in Vietnam. Here she is deflecting.
    Natalie W.

Response to "Master" Yen Cao: Before trying to play the victim, I was very open to working with your girls. My post is specific to how unprofessional they behave when things come up like eyelash yanking, crooked lash fills, appt rebooks and gossiping about me in Vietnamese cause they think I don't understand. To which you had no rebuttal to my testimony cause these are all true and you know it per the evidence submitted. As for your fictitious claims: I typically am quiet during appointments exchanging pleasantries cause the tech can purposely do bad work if provoked. Everyone knows that. Calling to complain about botched lashes and lash yanking is not the same as rude behavior and bad temper. It's called I had reached my limit of bs with you guys and wasn't tolerating it any longer by staying silent. Those were medical diagnoses your daughter RUBU VO suffers from, not name calling. See DSM-5 for clarification on what those mean. I don't see who I was bothering as I am usually the only customer in there during my sessions and I am usually quiet. It is usually dead in there anyways. But nice try. Nothing you say will ever make it ok that these things happened. It is absolutely relevant that I provide a heads up to unsuspecting customers that they may get cross marketed to for things that have nothing to do with lash extensions, facials or permanent makeup. YOU in fact are trying to sell things that are NOT RELEVANT to the reasons for the client's initial spa related visits. I am warning your unsuspecting clients cause it is awkward and tacky. I have an idea where that smell is coming from but won't say. I am simply WARNING people about it in advance cause it stinks! Understandable if you've gone nose blind to it at this point and are used to it by now. Doesn't matter who is offering the seat! If I don't want to sit, I am not going to! Has nothing to do with rudeness to elders or my inability to be professional. (Which is a hilarious comparison and irrelevant in a scenario where I am the customer) But nice try. I honor elders so much I left out the part where the lip tattoo YOU did on me is crooked and overlined what we initially agreed upon. Why did I not say anything? Because I respect elders! Bottom line, I have spent thousands of dollars with you guys which you were happy to take. But when a complaint comes up, as opposed to sincerely trying making it right, you try to victim shame and blame everything on me instead. Like I somehow deserve all the sub par work and nasty experiences because I had the nerve to complain about them. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. You would be angry too if you encountered what I did. So don't try to sugar coat or deflect from the fact that this is the caliber of service your girls provide and is a reflection of your capabilities as a business owner. Objectively speaking, the evidence in my favor is extensive with no rebuttal to the contrary. Downplaying my experiences by trying to get your readers to question my credibility is pathetic and desperate. At least you had the sense to not try and deny any of my testimony. I guess when the evidence against you is so overwhelming you have no choice but to deflect and try to make it look justified. People actually think you are a "MASTER", so maybe have some class and quit while you are ahead. The only thing you have demonstrated through your rant is your implicit bias and inability to be objective with facts presented. You are lucky I don't take you to court over my atrocious lip tattoo cause unlike my eyelashes this is permanent!

After 6 days of new set eyelash extension.
    MM W.

I went for eyelash extension a lot. Most stores' work can keep for a month or longer. But here, omg, I paid $100 for Thai style and after a week----- 6 days actually--- more than half of my eyelashes fell out. Never had such a terrible experience! Wasted of money! ----------- Update: The manager contacted me said the glue wasn't work for me and offered me a free fix. They are very nice and the second extension so far so good. I rised my review to 3 stars. Thx

Been going here for years now and every time I have an appointment I always look forward to it and very excited. From the moment I sat down, she was so warm, professional, and detail-oriented. She took her time to understand exactly what I wanted and executed it flawlessly. The shape is perfect, the ombré blend is so smooth and clean, and the finish is super glossy and elegant. I've gotten so many compliments already! You can really tell she takes pride in her work -- nothing felt rushed, and every detail was carefully done. Not only is her work beautiful, but their new location was super spacious, clean, hygienic, and comfortable, which is so important to me. She's incredibly talented and consistent! If you're looking for a nail tech who delivers high-quality, stunning results every single time -- she's the one. Or any one at this salon I Highly, highly recommend!

It was really easy to make an appointment via text and phone. Initially it was only be for two but…read morethe next morning we added on two more pedicures and they were very accommodating to all the changes! The prices were very reasonable. I paid $75 for my manicure ($25 manicure, $45 gel french tip, $5 nail fix) and my pedicure was $37 for a basic. The new salon is brand new and everything is very clean. Ruby did my pedicure and Alex did my manicure. They were extremely busy while we were there but it seemed like it ran really smoothly. Everyone was pleasant enough but not much talking and it did feel a little rushed at times but also understanding that they were trying to accommodate all 4 of us on short notice. Ruby cut slightly too deep into the side of my left big toe and she apologized but it was very noticeable swollen and painful the next day compared to my other toe so that's not ideal. She was very meticulous with the polish application though! Alex did a great job with my deep french manicure. He was very quick and efficient with putting on an acrylic tip onto my thumb that was shorter than the rest of my nails. He was careful to not have the gel touch my skin and seemed to be the go-to for frenchies. The girl working the front desk didn't seem to be in a good mood. I don't usually mind but she was very short with her responses and not particularly nice or helpful when I asked a few questions regarding the pricing and point system. There is plenty of street parking available and it was easy to find. They're very popular so expect to be a slight wait and it's definitely a more sterile and clinically run salon than a welcoming one. I didn't see anyone with a walk-in so I would always recommend making an appointment!

It's been a year!…read more About a year ago, I decided to trim my own hair. Let's just say... it didn't go well The haircut was so bad that I lived with it for an entire year before finally deciding it was time to let a professional fix it. The funniest part? I even took that haircut with me on a trip to New York City, ...and believe it or not, no one in New York City even sneered! I honestly think providence brought me here. On my way to Ala Moana Center, I happened to notice Lily's Hair Salon and thought, "That's interesting. I've never noticed that place before." Just before that, I had called Macy's to make an appointment at their salon. The phone rang, then a recording said the number was no longer in service. When I went looking for the salon anyway, I discovered it had actually closed during the pandemic. So believe it or not, I made the round trip back to Lily's. When I first walked in, the woman at the front desk told me their hairstylist was busy and suggested I try the salon upstairs. I did, only to find they were closed. I came back downstairs and told her I didn't mind waiting about 20 minutes. While I waited, I happily took advantage of their massage chair. After physical therapy, that massage chair felt wonderful. Before long, Min Hee was ready for me. She started with an assessment, washed my hair, took another careful look at it, cut it, and finished with a blow dry so she could see exactly how it naturally lays. What I appreciated most was that she listened. The first thing she did after I sat down was trim the ends to the length I wanted. She never once tried to convince me to cut my hair much shorter than I was comfortable with. I showed her how I like to clip my hair up while still having enough length for a little dangling ponytail, and we agreed to preserve that length while cleaning up the overall shape. Now I have bangs again, my haircut is even and balanced, and my hair finally looks polished instead of like the DIY haircut I'd been trying to live with for the past year My haircut was $65. There is a $2 fee if you pay by credit card. Parking was easy, with six free stalls right in front of the salon. The salon itself isn't fancy, but it's clean, comfortable, and more than good enough. There's a restroom inside on the left, and they also offer complimentary water and snacks. Min Hee is the salon's full-time hairstylist and also provides nail services. There are two additional hairstylists who work part-time on their own schedules. Everyone I interacted with was pleasant, courteous, and genuinely helpful. They all seem to know who their customers are, so you won't get asked, "Why are you wanting to use our restroom?" That may sound like a small thing, but it contributes to the welcoming atmosphere from the moment you walk in. Thank you, Min Hee, for giving me such a great haircut and a wonderful experience. I'm very happy I found your salon.

For me, I felt as though the work was rushed but still came out great! I had requested a gel x set but had to inform my nail tech because she was unaware and was about to give me acrylic. Not sure if she wasn't informed or if she automatically assumed. I did have a picture to go off of for design and the tech was very good at mimicking the design. Only issue I had was that she didn't clarify color scheme with me prior to starting and I had to stop her or ask for a different colors on multiple occasions. For instance what she thought was white I wanted a pastel pink since the whole look focused on a pastel palette. When I did correct the coloring I also felt as though I was in the wrong because she was going based on the "picture" but never asked or clarified with me what I had wanted. Overall I would still go back to get my nails done here just make sure you clarify the things you want prior to the nails being done with your tech especially if they don't ask you first

Ever since moving to Honolulu, I had struggled to find a reliable nail salon. I have a pincer nail…read moreon my left big toe (caused by wearing the wrong hiking shoes on a strenuous, 18-mile hike that I did in 2018). The mutated nail is managed by monthly pedicure appointments, meaning highly experienced nail techs. The Beauty Bar was the 3rd nail salon I tried out and I haven't had to go anywhere else. I've been coming for the last 3 months and continue to be very happy with the service and results. Not only is my pincer nail always treated and trimmed carefully and expertly, the pedicures are well done and last for over 4 weeks (just using regular polish, not gel). I haven't tried the Japanese gel manicure yet, but I'm waiting for a special occasion to make the splurge. There's only a couple of downsides: 1) the prices are very high and 2) the massages are too soft. For example, I've paid $4 or $5 for callous removal at other salons, but they charge $10 here. Otherwise, I have no other complaints. I love the ease of the online booking system. The salon is clean and has a very chill vibe.

I love coming to this place to have my fingers and toes done because, if I have to be honest, I always thought having manicures to be too lah dee dah, but not here at The Beauty Bar.
