I booked with Yen Cao who is supposedly the master for eyebrows only to be disappointed! She is the nicest person, great personality, fun vibe but her work was not on point! I explained what I wanted done, but she gives her own opinion of what she thinks looks good. She focused on arching my brows and must've forgot or decided not to microblade the parts I asked her to do. As my brows healed it became noticeable that she ran out of ink on one side and the color is horrible! Looks burnt! Charged me $300 bucks for arching only as it seems. VERY EXPENSIVE........First of all I am writing this review as a very very dissatisfied customer. I went to GRAND MASTER YEN on 5/2025 for permanent brows tattoo. She said she is able to do what I wanted. I had it done and it lasted about 3-4 weeks before fading, I returned in June for touch up, they lasted about 3-4 weeks and faded again. She told me to return a third time, I went to see her she looked at my brows told me to schedule a third time ANOTHER TOUCH UP. I left and did not schedule. She contacted me after leaving a one star review and offered me a facial in which I was not interested in. To be fair I asked about a lip blush service with no answer from her, at the point I asked for a refund of my $$732.98. I had my brows redone at another salon have no touch up, no fading very satisfied. It's been 5 months so far with my new brows. So be careful how much money you spend for a NON PROFESSIONAL service. The truth?? I was scared!! The process?? Stings a bit! No pain, no gain! The result?? Amazing!! There are so many options when it comes to getting semi-permanent/permanent eyebrows done. But, when Microblading was introduced to me ~5 years ago, I thought about it...just never had the guts to do it. Today, with all of the testimonials on YouTube, live videos on Facebook, Instagram, and of course Yelp, I was educated enough to finally get some work done. In the end, I decided to go with Modern Artistry PMU (Permanent Make Up) because of the "natural" artistic options available. I cannot recommend Yen Cao of Modern Artistry enough. She's personable, sweet, and a great artist! She even teaches a course if you're interested in getting certified (my friend received her certification from Yen's class and now owns her own business in San Diego). It's been 2 months now since my first appointment with Yen, so I'm brave enough to share the result. Initial visit was early September and touch-up was in November. My brows do have hair. They just aren't full enough to have a defined look on their own. After submitting a profile photo of my natural face through text, Yen suggested "Pencil Effect with Shading" since I told her I was going for a "natural" look. Overall, I was envisioning a subtle darkening of my existing brows. The initial process took about 3 hours which included completing paperwork - contact info & signing waivers. "Before" photos were taken, followed by drawing in the new brows to get my approval before the semi-permanent work with the needle began. Brand new needles were used with the tool. Yen showed me the new packages and opened them up in front of me. One for the hair strokes and the other for shading. After completion of the service, "After" photos were taken. She will even share them with you, just ask. A few images might also be posted on her social media pages FYI. After care instructions included After-care Wipes and a small capsule of topical ointment to use every night until the product was gone. For the next five days, I was instructed not to get my brows wet with water. Washing my face and hair were a bit challenging for a few days, but I did it! It's the same process with the touch-up (recommended 45 days after initial visit). Like I said in the beginning, I really love the result! I haven't manually filled in my brows since September and it should last at least 18 months. What a time saver!! You'll go through phases of LOVE, OMG it's too dark, and OH No it's scabbing! It just takes a few days for the skin to heal and the color to finally settle in. There are other services that Yen offers too, such as waxing, facials, and of course, permanent make-up. I had my lashes done by Chau more than hand full of times, and every time she is very gentle and is always checking if I am comfortable. Love the outcome of every set I've tried with her! Her hands as gentle as they can get, you won't even notice she's working on your lashes. I'd recommend the hybrid set if you like your lashes to be full and the natural classic set is also great if you like it more on the natural side. I've always tried to do home care (basic cleaning of the lashes) at least every other day and I've noticed that helped my lashes to last at least 2 - 2.5 weeks. My post is specific to how unprofessional they behave when things come up like eyelash yanking, crooked lash fills, appt rebooks and gossiping about me in Vietnamese cause they think I don't understand. To which you had no rebuttal to my testimony cause these are all true and you know it per the evidence submitted. As for your fictitious claims: I typically am quiet during appointments exchanging pleasantries cause the tech can purposely do bad work if provoked. Everyone knows that. Calling to complain about botched lashes and lash yanking is not the same as rude behavior and bad temper. It's called I had reached my limit of bs with you guys and wasn't tolerating it any longer by staying silent. Those were medical diagnoses your daughter RUBU VO suffers from, not name calling. See DSM-5 for clarification on what those mean. I don't see who I was bothering as I am usually the only customer in there during my sessions and I am usually quiet. It is usually dead in there anyways. But nice try. Nothing you say will ever make it ok that these things happened. It is absolutely relevant that I provide a heads up to unsuspecting customers that they may get cross marketed to for things that have nothing to do with lash extensions, facials or permanent makeup. YOU in fact are trying to sell things that are NOT RELEVANT to the reasons for the client's initial spa related visits. I am warning your unsuspecting clients cause it is awkward and tacky. I have an idea where that smell is coming from but won't say. I am simply WARNING people about it in advance cause it stinks! Understandable if you've gone nose blind to it at this point and are used to it by now. Doesn't matter who is offering the seat! If I don't want to sit, I am not going to! I honor elders so much I left out the part where the lip tattoo YOU did on me is crooked and overlined what we initially agreed upon. Why did I not say anything? Because I respect elders! Bottom line, I have spent thousands of dollars with you guys which you were happy to take. But when a complaint comes up, as opposed to sincerely trying making it right, you try to victim shame and blame everything on me instead. Like I somehow deserve all the sub par work and nasty experiences because I had the nerve to complain about them. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. You would be angry too if you encountered what I did. So don't try to sugar coat or deflect from the fact that this is the caliber of service your girls provide and is a reflection of your capabilities as a business owner. Objectively speaking, the evidence in my favor is extensive with no rebuttal to the contrary. Downplaying my experiences by trying to get your readers to question my credibility is pathetic and desperate. At least you had the sense to not try and deny any of my testimony. Warning!! If they someone from this company messages you and asks you if you want to be a model just know that you will be their practice dummy. One of their employees messaged me and asked me if I wanted to be a model and I said yes thinking that it was for her who I know is experienced. (She did my sister's lashes) fast forward to the day, I get there and I find out that it's for their students. I should have stuck to my own rules and not let them do it, but I traveled that far already so I gave it a shot. Bad move. I told my artist that I wanted a Volume wispy with 17mm spikes. And she said ok with a very confused look on her face. That should have been clue #1. So I'm laying down and she puts the pads under my eyes and I'm not sure what happened, but I told her my left eye was uncomfortable, something was on it that wasn't supposed to be there. So she adjusted and it felt like she put it right back in the same spot so I told her again. And then instantly both if my eyes started watering non stop. Mind you, at one point in my life before I had my daughter I was getting my lashes done consistently every 2 weeks and this has never happened. As a matter of fact, I had my lashes done in the beginning of August my this wonderful artist, the same thing I had asked for here, and it waswonderful. No burning eyes or nothing. Anyways, yes my eyes were watering non stop and her teachers were all around me trying to figure something out, but they continued to let her use me as a test dummy. I mean at that point, the smart thing would be to take over for your student because lash extensions aren't something that should be played with. And i assumed that they did replace her, but nope it was her still. But ok I guess... So I ask her what time it is and she says 2:15. (Almost 2 hours into my appt) I tell her ok, can you make it as even as possible because I gotta go (I needed to get back to my baby) but and she said ok. But right after I asked her if she was almost done so I said ok let's just finish them then. Now she's done, but I can feel my eyes burning already and I didn't even open them yet. So I feel her pulling something off of my eyelids and I ask jer if that's Glue and she says yes. Like holy shit, no wonder my eyes are burning. It was as if she glued my top and bottom lid together. Like um hello?? And her teachers didn't try and help her AT ALL. Finally, I open my eyes, burning like he'll of course and I feel like something is poking both of them. Lashes looked so stringy and I was so embarrassed with them on. I'm the idiot who paid so that's my bad. And I still tipped her because, again, im an idiot. I wish I took pictures, ugh, it was terrible. By the time I got to my truck, I had lashes falling off, taking my real lash with them. I sat in my car for 30 minutes maybe even more because my eyes were burning, I still had Glue where it shouldn't have been, and I had to figure out what was poking my eyes. It was painful, my eyes were bloodshot. They lasted 3 days tops, and I finally had to take them off because the lashes on my right eye on the inner corner was bothering my eyes. So now I have no lashes at all, so embarrassing my left eye has a huge bald spot that is so noticeable. And on top of all of that, the spot where the lashes was bothering my eye, I now have a pimple growing under my eyelid. Like umm ok, that's not a coincidence. I messaged them and gave them some tips about placements and having her practice more on a mannequin head and I was really polite about it because I get it shes just starting out, but ok then don't practice on actual people yet, eyes are nothing to play with. And they asked me if there was anything they could do and I said yes can i have a refund. I got left on read. Then I said ok what if one of the experienced lash artist do my lashes for free for redemption and I got left on read again. Like don't even ask me if there is anything that you guys can do if that's the case. Oh and she was trying to tell me it was my fault why myeyes were burning because the Glue didn't have enough time to dry. Um oh the glue was pretty dry hence rhe reason she was pulling it off of my eyelids, lol. But I was gonna argue that, I just wanted to find a solution. But here, omg, I paid $100 for Thai style and after a week----- 6 days actually--- more than half of my eyelashes fell out. Never had such a terrible experience! I am so happy to have sexy lip blush work done by the one & only Yen Cao! She is the master of permanent makeup...she has traveled and taught so many professionals how to perfect this art and has put in thousands of hours in the makeup ink world...so you better believe she knows exactly what she is doing! I loved that she genuinely took her time with my lip blush needs. I am a Southeast Asian chick with darker lips that needed special attention with lip blush service and Yen did an amazing job in the technicality of that, while having a light touch. At times it was understandably uncomfortable but, it was very brief and never painful like I thought it would be. Yen made sure that I was comfortable with the service the whole time...and it took about 3hours. I like to believe her experience has taught her well in keeping me comfy, numb, & for the most part, pain free. It's not as easy as just putting color on your lips...there's a technique of blending colors and application...so it is very important to make sure you go to a true pro (like Yen) when you get this service done. The customer service, quality of service, and professionalism here is top notch. The location is great and very easy to find, right next to Ala Moana mall. I just park on the Kapiolani side of the mall and walked over to Modern Artistry. The salon is modern, cute, and very clean. I'm excited for my follow up with Yen and for future services with her and her staff. I found my spot for all my permanent makeup needs. I shopped around for the right place to get permanent makeup done. Some places were impersonal and/or unresponsive. When I called this place I got to speak with Yen and scheduled me for a consult Saturday. I was interested in eyebrows, eyeliner and lips. Yen was honest in explaining she didn't recommend eyeliner due to my age, and she said many people will take your money and do it but it wouldn't look good later as your eye sags with time. The cost for eyebrows and lips were both $500 each service and I didn't wanna splurge on both and had to choose. Yen said eyebrows were a better investment so I said ok and we started right then. She is really a master at her craft, that's why she also teaches. I am into the natural look and didn't wanna look overly dramatic or have "angry" eyebrows. Yen explained how adding arch makes your face younger and appear thinner. She took the time to make measurements and draw different shapes. Color choice was on point and all the while kept a natural look, some arch for glamorous look but not obnoxious. I am beyond thrilled so far, the entire experience was very professional and comfortable. Only thing is parking doesn't take cash. I didn't ask for validation, figured how much could it be on a Saturday anyhow?...well I had to run to Walmart to get cash while the parking lot lady held my car hostage Also if you pay cash for your service you could get a discount so ask about that before coming in and have cash on you. I had the best experience getting my eyebrows done by the Master herself Yen Cao yesterday. I've been wanting to get permanent eyebrows for a while, but was hesitant because it's permanent makeup and if it comes out bad, there's no going back! After doing some research I found Modern Artistry and loved the results of clients that Yen had beautified. So I looked through their website and read information about the different types of eyebrow permanent makeup and chose LUXURIANCE BROWS because I wanted full eyebrows that gave me a natural look since my natural eyebrows were so thin. I booked an appointment online which was very straight forward and easy to access. The day before I was scheduled to go in, Yen confirmed my appointment and we were set to go! As soon as I opened the door, I was greeted right away by one of their beauticians. I sat down and filled out some paperwork (waiver/consent forms) which took about 10 minutes. Yen introduced herself and took a before picture so we could compare and see the after results when we were done. She was really sweet and thoughtful and made me feel at home. Yelp Challenge 365 # 95/365 Been going to this place now for years and even before as I've followed Yen the owner. Well, my last visit for a mani/pedi introduced me to Patti. Pattie took special care in trimming my cuticles and the foot massage ? Yikes! Heaven!!!! I have yet to get a facial but will get it on my calendar soon. I've heard and read so much about the facials and seen satisfied patrons while I'm there too. An observation which has been constant from day 1 of my visit is the cleanliness of the salon itself. That says something about the staff and management of the salon. Just say YES to Yen! After much research online (mahalo Yelp) and a pleasant first impression with Yen via text, I made an appointment with Yen and came in yesterday (during the torrential downpour). My thought is this: When you're dealing with matters of the face, especially anything that isn't completely permanent in nature, you should pick based on skill, experience, and vibe, NOT who is the cheapest or who will give you the best deal. In this case, you get what you pay for and paying for experience, skill, and artistic talent is worth every penny. Not only is Yen so kind, she is also extremely meticulous, detailed oriented, and a perfectionist. She takes great pride in her work and is really passionate about what she does. I learned that she attended several schools in different countries like Paris an Russia and trained under some of the best, not to mention picking up the various skills and techniques you can only gain from going to schools all over the world. She really takes her time, is very thorough, explains everything, and will put you at complete ease. I'm on day two and love the results. Can't wait to see them once their all healed up. One day my son called me and asked if i wanted to get my eye brows tattooed today, by students here at MAA. His friend is a student learning microblading there. So i said sure why not, i would love to help the students and his friend learn and also would love to have new eye brows since i barely had hair. I only check my Facebook account twice a year, so it must have been fate (or Facebook's marketing is very good) when Di's ad for permanent make-up popped up on my screen. I've been researching microblading for a while, but never pulled the trigger because I'm too scared of looking like Oscar the Grouch. I messaged Di and she informed me that for oily and prone to scarring skin (I'm both of those things), micro shading is the way to go. I did my research and after two months from our initial conversation, I was finally ready to committ. So glad I took a chance on her. I love, love how my eyebrows look. My eyebrows are uneven and very sparse due to over plucking from when thin brows were all the rage but she did a great job of evening and filling them out. We made the appointment via text and I paid her my deposit via phone. On the day of the appointment, I waited for a while since she forgot to write my appointment down on her calendar. I recommend you verify your appointment with her the day before to confirm your appointment as she does get very busy and things can fall through the cracks. I mention this because I was worried she was going to rush my eyebrows. I'm glad to say that this is not her style at all. She took her time and was very meticulous with her work. In fact, she spent a longgggg time with me just trying to even out my cockeyed eyebrows. She even mentioned that at first she wasn't sure how the pigments would stick to my skin because my skin is so oily. Haha, and that's my skin after taking Accutane. Imagine how oily I was before I took one round of Accutane! Yikes! Of course, like a professional, she didn't mention this during the procedure. She just plugged away until she was satisfied with her work. So glad, she didn't say anything while she was working on me. Otherwise, I would have probably wanted to walk out of there. The procedure itself was relatively painless. Granted, I have a high tolerance for pain so your results may vary. Di doesn't use a lot of numbing cream because she doesn't want your muscles to get tight during the process. But because she has a light touch and my high tolerance for pain, I fell asleep while she worked on the right eyebrow. I'm not going to lie, the left side woke me up and it was a little painful. Not painful like you're going to die kind of pain, but more of an annoying, unrelenting scratching on your skin with something sharp kind of pain. I've attached the before and after pics that she took. Note that I have no makeup on whatsoever so the brows look a little dramatic, but it looks great with makeup. I highly recommend her for your permanent makeup needs. Tip: Park at Ala Moana close to Target on the ground floor and walk across the street to her salon. I did my eyebrows by Yen today. I had to reshape them and recolor them (they were fading). Yen spent sometime to introduce herself and explain the process with me. Very relaxing atmosphere and she also fed me (homemade manapua) because my stomach was growling during the session. I will return in September for a touch up and a facial. Cathy read more

I went to Yen today and she was amazing! She did a color correction on me and redid my brows. She really loves what she does and is the sweetest. If you cant afford her services, she does teach students and charges $150. She watches the student makes sure their work is up to par, and if not, does the brows herself. read more

I scheduled an acne facial treatment with I believe her name was Camilla. She made me feel so relaxed and enjoyed every 90 mins of that treatment. She was so light handed and very caring to my needs while being 4.5 months pregnant. She made me felt at ease and cleansed my face as much as possible. I got my lashes done here and had my lip tattoo done here too. Yen was very accommodating and she really took the time to help me fond the color i liked for my tattoo. She recommended the most natural looking style and i am IN LOVE with the results. As for my lash experience, i had my lashes done here a week ago from today and they had started falling off so i called and told them the issue i was having and they were willing to fix it for me for free because apparently the glue wasnt suitable for me. I fell asleep multiple times while getting my lashes done because the lash tech was so gentle! Overall, the staff is very respectful and VERY nice and takes their time providing their service. 10/10 would recommend!! read more
