I picked raspberry/white chocolate and he chose zucchini/blueberry. I ordered a two piece dark meat chicken dinner. I chose mashed potatoes with gravy (lumpy mashed potatoes... just like my late Mom's. ) I, also chose fried green tomatoes..mmmm. On a whim, I wanted the Collard Greens, too.... AMAZING! He had a Walleye dinner. The Walleye was huge!!! All in all, my 63rd birthday dinner was worth the hour drive north. Stopped in here on a Friday evening for dinner. Ordered the BBQ fried chicken dinner because I had heard they were known for their chicken. This dish is a half of a chicken with two large side dishes. It was probably the best chicken I had ever eaten. The meat was moist and thick. The BBQ sauce was a little on the sweet side, which is how I like it. There was enough food for two meals but I couldn't stop eating the chicken into it was gone. Made a detour while heading back to Ann Arbor.... their fried chicken was calling me, but I was also intrigued by their pies! Plenty of parking, walked in and was told to seat anywhere I liked, the waitress provided two menus - breakfast and lunch/dinner. While I reviewed the menu, I got water and black coffee... after a while I went with: - 2 pcs dark meat fried chicken with green beans with bacon and Mac-n-Cheese and it came with a bread, went with apple cinnamon. - side order of bacon (got 4 pieces) - $4.99 for side order of bacon Food: 3 out of 5 stars Service 4 out of 5 stars - Apple cinnamon bread was excellent, served hot with butter. The only draw back, it was way too sweet for my tastebuds. - Chicken dinner, be prepared to wait min. of 20 minutes, as it's cooked to order. The chicken was brined, cooked perfectly and the chicken was moist and juicy. However the flavor of the chicken did not penetrate inside the chicken, but this can be overcome by use of the hot sauce! If you get mashed potato and gravy, then gravy will do wonders. The green bean with bacons is not worth it, it's not seasoned at all, so make sure to add some salt or a different side item. The Mac-n-Cheese was excellent, definitely would recommend this by itself. - the side order bacon was good, cooked to crisp, salty and yes very unusual side item to fried chicken. This place is also known for their pies..... so I had to order some... I bought two whole pies - pecan and cherry, but did not consume them myself. The pies were present for others, so I can't say how the pies were, but they are$13.99 each. The visit set me back $58 with two pies, chicken dinner, coffee, side of bacon and tip. It is a bit out of the way for me, but if I'm in the area again, would stop by again. Have to try their fried fish and bbq rib offerings. read more

We had a party of four for dinner. Two people got pollock with fries and coleslaw. They liked their meals. I had beef and noodles with a salad. The salad was wilted and sad. The dressing was insufficient to the task. My beef and noodles were extremely salty, and the noodles were cooked to mush. My wife had meatloaf with potato salad and coleslaw. The slaw was creamy and good. The meatloaf was a bit dry, but otherwise tasty. The service was lacking in that we had to ask for beverage refills, but the person was evidently new. Covid took out a lot of restaurants and people are stressed out getting back to work. Which is why i was so happy another coworker told me about this place. We called in an order prior to opening because he had been there before and the owner was kind enough to help me even though she wasn't open yet. Furthermore, she deciphered what we wanted into actual meals. Because we didn't really look at the menu first....we just listed breakfast items. Stopped here for an early dinner after visiting the orchard. Excellent country cooking at its finest! I was told that they are known for their fried chicken and catfish. I had the fried catfish dinner (two big pieces with a side of mashed potatoes w/beef gravy and fried green tomatoes)! Catfish was cooked to perfection, not greasy, and had a great batter. Excellent mashed potatoes. And those fried green tomatoes...yum! My wife had the chicken tenders. Very good, juicy chicken and breaded/seasoned nicely. I normally do not like white meat tenders because they tend to be dry - not at this restaurant! Wonder if they brine the chicken - I did not read about it on the menu but they have a write-up about their fried chicken. Watched the chicken being brought to other tables - Wow!! They also bring complimentary sweet bread to the table (banana nut, apple, blueberry zucchini, and others to choose from) - outstanding sweet bread. I would make the drive for that alone. I have been looking for a place like this. I will return to get some fried chicken, although the catfish was so memorable I would absolutely get that again. read more

UPDATE: Since this review has been written we've stopped in to find the prices have been raised quite a bit, almost comically. It served as the inspiration for Kehoe's Kountry Kitchen in Barry Graham's novel, Nothing or Next to Nothing. We've eaten just about everything on this menu full of traditional Midwest American fare. The fried chicken is killer, juicy meat, crispy skin. Black Mountain meatloaf. House steak. Country fried steak. Chicken and biscuits. Fish. The only thing we weren't crazy for was the roast beef. Sides and appetizers never disappoint. Mashed potatoes with your choice of gravy. Fried okra. Mac and cheese. Green beans with bacon. Peppered cheese balls. Everything spot on and delicious. A friend & myself were driving through Blissfield on the way back to Toledo from Adrian. Decided to stop @ this diner & I'm glad we did. I highly recommend this place. They make their own jams & jellies, 4 or 5 different loaves of bread, & all kinds of different pies. Breakfast served all day, but I got a turkey reuben & my friend ordered the fried chicken dinner. This place may be the worst diner I ever been to in my life. My Belgium waffle was obviously a frozen food that didn't go well with sunny side eggs. Southern style skillet that my husband ordered wasn't sizzling at all. Instead it came in a tiny cold iron skillet. Velveeta cheese sauce on top and there were eggs , crumbled chorizo , frozen hashed potatoes and tortilla chip inside.... who put tortilla chips in a skillet .... yet they were clouded with people . Maybe because it was small town that there aren't much restaurant. I never come back again. read more
