First of all I have always considered Becks Prime a staple and a place I can get a consistent and decent meal since about 1999. I work right near the Kirby location and also frequent the Memorial Park location. I like it even though over the years it has gotten quite expensive. Just 20 minutes ago so that would be just before 2 pm I ordered a cheese burger medium rare with no bun. When they gave it to me the cheese was cold and not melted at all so I asked that they melt the cheese just a little. They obliged but when I cut in it was raw in the center and cold I ate some of the edges first so did not immediately notice but it was cold mush and gross. I went in and gave it back so they could see they have a person on the grill who cannot cook...they did not seem to give a crap. With so many choices for burgers in Houston bye bye Becks. read more

I probably had the worse experience from any burger place. I hate to say it, but I'm sure McDonald's could had done better. To begin the person taking your order seemed like they were in a rush which made me feel rushed. I ordered a hickory smoked burger, hot dog, truffle fries, and a strawberry shake. The burger was rare I mean bloody rare, no lettuce no nothing just a dollop of bbq sauce, I had to toss it. And never have I had a hot dog that way who puts a hot dog on a hamburger bun, especially, an establishment that charges so much for their items. Two items down, and two more to go. The truffle fries were not fresh but soggy and absolutely disappointing. Now, for the shake I guess I'll compliment the shake since it was just ice cream and strawberry sauce and I'm sure a three year old kid could do better. I've visited this location several times over the past year. It's always a pleasant experience. They've never cooked my burger incorrectly. The meat is high quality and has a signature delicious taste since they cook the meat over mesquite coals. The prices are ok for the quality of the food. It's also nice you can have a cold beer with your burger. The patio is well shaded and a perfect spot to enjoy lunch. I think the buns are a little too big but that's my only complaint. We stopped here to eat before a weekend Astros game. The food is great and the serving of fries you are given could feed 2. Their secret sauce (can't remember what they call it) is really good. I was sitting in the drive-thru at the Becks Prime off Kirby, and I could see the employees there making food with their bare hands. One girl working in the kitchen was putting blue cheese on a salad and was wiping that cheese residue on her apron. Never once did I see her wash her hands in between making different food. Quarreling over the best burger in DC is like quarreling over whose child is the least ugly. It just doesn't make any sense to take pride in being determined the "winner". Thankfully, however, for the denizens of Houston, the burger is an art form as opposed to some slab of meat decked in between two artisan buns with absolutely no appreciation of common sense. Enter Becks. As I ate what I considered the best burger in DC earlier today, my mind couldn't help coming back to this small chain out in Houston, Texas. As I continued to miss Houston, I sifted through my reviews and noted that I had the egregious omission of what I consider the best burger in Houston, Texas. With apologies to Christian's, Lankford's, and all the other wonderful burger joints to be found in this city, I have to go with Beck's based on two factors: 1) the quality of their meat and 2) their addition of egg into their buns. Beck's uses phenomenal, high grade meat. As noted by Michael A., one receives fast food, but it tastes like it came right out of a fancy restaurant -- at half the price! You can order regular burgers or steak burgers here. Both are exquisite. Furthermore, there is an enormous range of burgers from which to choose. Any palate can find culinary heaven at Beck's. A detail that often falls by the wayside is the subtle use of egg in the Beck's bun. The addition is key -- it is the ingredient that keeps Beck's bun from falling apart. It's why you get a nice piece of doughy, yummy goodness with each piece of high grade meat. It's such a simple addition, yet it consistently distinguishes itself from other places based on this simplicity. When I think burgers, I think Hut's, Beck's, and Arnold's Burger. If only DC could have a "problem" like this when it comes to burgers. I think Beck's Prime is one of the best burger places in Houston. Yes, the wait is longer than at Wendy's or a McDonalds but the food seems to be made AFTER I order and it always tastes fresh to me. Also, I acknowledge that Beck's prices are higher than a std. chain burger place but the quality is so much higher at Beck's that I don't mind paying a little more. Here are some of my favorite things from Beck's: - Mediterranean Salad with grilled chicken: Lots of crispy romaine lettuce studded with zesty (not canned) black olives, feta cheese crumbles, cherry tomatoes and rings of purple onion. The freshly grilled chicken is laid in strips across the salad and is accompanied by a tangy balsamic vinaigrette. This is diet food that doesn't even taste like it! - Chicken Burger: Nice large chicken breast sandwiched between a fluffy whole wheat bun. Filling and very tasty - even more tasty when I get a side of hickory sauce to go with it! - Regular Hamburger: I don't eat a lot of red meat but when I do, this fits the bill perfectly. The outside of the patty is nicely charred and the meat inside is juicy and pink which is how I like it (but I am sure you could have it well done if you asked). - French Fries: The best way to spend calories is on a basket of hot, crunchy Beck's fries which have been sprinkled with their seasoned salt. It is near impossible to leave any behind - they are that good! And, finally, a little known tidbit but you can get beer and wine here (at least at this Kirby Dr. location) so grab a drink and head to the wooden deck and watch the world drive by as you enjoy some quality fast food! read more

I was sorely tempted to dump the container out on the ground in the parking garage and roll in them. Too much information? Sorry, I have a penchant for embarrassing self disclosure. So, Miss Cory O and I went there for an afternoon snack... we were running errands together and got the munchies. "Burgers sound awesome!" we thought. "Becks, let's check it out!" we said. Parking is shoddy. It's also a drive-through, so be careful of the possible line of cars cutting through the oncoming traffic -- not to mention the ever-present construction on that God-forsaken strip! I'd bet it's crazy busy during lunch rush, so get there early, or go for a snack (for those of you who understand that a 1/2 pound burger can really be considered "just a snack" sometimes). Cory got the bacon-cheese, and I had some sort of fancy avocado California job. But the thing is, they grind fresh chuck every day! And, really, you can tell the difference. It is deliciousness! They're perfectly grilled, fresh everything - no matter what you order. I've gotta go back for a dog. Something tells me it'd be orgasmic! It's kinda like an upscale fast-food, kinda like an old-style Arby's-type place, if you will. Beers were a bit pricey for a joint like this, but hell! Who cares when you've got a tasty burger and need a sip of a tasty beverage to wash it down. We had Shiners, good complement. Sat outside in the breeze and filled ourselves. Beck's Prime is a must-visit every time I come to Houston. I've dined here since I was a kid. Beck's has always been rated my No. 1 burger along with Houston's Restaurant. On my recent visit in November, I was a tad disappointed though. My burger was overcooked. Not the usual juicy Beck's Prime burger I remember. The bun was just as I remember, homemade. The fries were crispy and fresh. I couldn't get enough. Save room for the milkshakes if you can, they are delish. It's counter service, so the atmosphere is very casual. But the place is big and decent enough to dine in. Expect to pay top dollar for their burger. For great meat, you pay the price and it's worth it. Everyone has a bad day. So I won't let my most recent visit effect my rating just yet. After all, I've visited this place over 10+ times and they have been consistently scrumptious. So I will judge it on my total experience in a lifetime. But let's just hope this isn't the beginning of a downward turn. read more

I have been here at least a dozen times and I have never been disappointed. Of all the places I take my dog, I believe the drive through here is her favourite. Her nose sticks up in the air reaching for every last scent of the cooking burgers. I always get the Bubba Burger. It has cheese, sauce, onions and tomatoes. There are a lot of other burgers with more on them, but I believe these burgers do not need embellishment. I would argue these are the best burgers in Houston. They are grilled perfectly, and have a wonderful charcoal flavour. Pair one with the sweet potato fries and you can't go wrong. These burgers are pricey, but I believe they are worth it. I always get my dog one of their kid's cheeseburgers, and she definitely agrees. read more

The place seemed quite promising from the menu. Some of the best burgers I've ever had came from places with a similar setup. I ordered a Blue Burger with bacon and mushrooms. Knowing the reputation of Beck's, I felt pretty confident I would be eating well. Too bad I was wrong. The food is bland, boring, and woefully under-seasoned. I don't know what kind of bleu cheese they use at Beck's, but it hardly tasted like bleu cheese at all...it reminded me of how Taco Bell does "hot" sauce: mild, unsatisfying, and even a bit insulting. I don't know if terrible bleu cheese is par for the Beck's course or if I happened to get a bad batch, but I do know that I felt as if I'd ordered from a kiddie menu designed to be as inoffensive to the average customer as possible. Which is strange, to me, because most people who actively choose something like a "Blue Burger" would actually want to taste the cheese. I've tried other burgers on other visits with friends, and they've all seriously lacked flavor. When the meat is thick like it is at Beck's, it takes a bit more effort to make sure it tastes great. That effort is lacking here. The unfortunate result: I actually preferred a recent Whataburger purchase over the food I got at Beck's. There's something strange going on when the higher-quality, probably fresher food is being handily outdone by a cheap burger factory. If I have my way, I won't be returning. read more

A burger is a serious thing to a carnivorous male such as myself and Becks Prime knows that their pride is at stake every time they create their impressive burgers. I know that they are a chain, I realize that it's pricey, and I'm not going to say that they are the best burgers in town, but they are most certainly a contender. The meat is high grade and fresh, the bun is everything it should be, and the toppings and combination's are amazing. I recommend the 'Bill's burger', if you like grilled onions and jalapenos like myself, and one has to try the milkshakes. Wow! I was driving by Beck's last night at 9 pm, when I realized that I hadn't eaten dinner. I remembered some great reviews about Beck's on Yelp and one that noted their veggie burger. So, I ordered a Veggie burger basket combo with fries. I added cheddar and mayo to the mustard, pickles, onion, tomato, lettuce on a wheat bun. I will have to say...the burger was delicious. It actually has a "real" burger taste. The fries had a great flavor, but were a little soggy. All in all, I was thrilled. For $11 it's a little pricey, but well worth it when you are hungry and tired. read more

Becks Prime on Kirby looks like a generic drive-thru and serves what you'd call fast food fare -- yet it tastes and costs like a restaurant ($25.50 for a 16-ounce T-bone or 12-ounce sirloin; $24.50 for a filet). I've had their steak, burgers and steak sandwich and they were all fine. But it's not the food that makes Becks one of my favorite Houston eateries. I like Becks because it's on a very short list of dog-friendly Houston restaurants. To me, there are few more sublime pleasures in life than dining out with the dog. While Fido isn't invited inside the restaurant, he's perfectly welcome to sit with you on the homey outdoor patio which is dimly lit at night but comfy depending on the whims of Houston's subtropical weather. Utter the magic words to your counterperson ("I brought my dog") and you'll receive a fistful of dog biscuits and a bowl of water with your order, free-of-charge. This is the perfect place for Houston's die hard carnivores. Just driving near this place makes you salivate.The meat is always so fresh, juicy and calling your name.... Although the portions are too big for me, I'm sure they're just about right for the average meat-eater. The fries are so-so but spectacular when you ask for them well-done. We spent $75 on 2 ribeyes. We ordered them medium rare but they came out a little too rare. We asked to get them cooked a little more. The lady in the back cut into my steak and yells to her team that it's a perfect medium rare to her liking. We never once said it wasn't we just requested it be cooked more. I told the guy working the register that we could clearly hear her and it was rude. He tells her and she begins to speak in Spanish and now their whole team continues to stare at us while cooking our steaks. The part where she cut into my steak overcooked while the rest was fine. I had already cut into my steak. I don't understand why she had to as well? Moral of the story don't waste your time on a steak here get a sandwich or something. I've had some of the best burgers I've ever had at this establishment. Their patties are well formed and very juicy and sit on top of a potato bun. You just can't beat that in a burger. I only wish the buns were toasted by default. The shakes are very thick and tasty. I've had a few of them and they're always a good compliment to any burger. It is, however, their fries that garner them only a four star rating. They are fresh cut, but in classic fresh cut style.. very soggy. I enjoy crispiness in my fries, and well almost everything I eat. And, unfortunately, these just don't do it for me. They are pretty good with the shakes tho, but not enough to make them wonderful. The parking can be a little annoying at times, but I don't often have a problem. And the seating is adequate each of the times I've been there. I have yet to try the drive through as navigating it looks a little scary. All in all, if I'm looking for an awesome juicy burger, this is my destination. read more

Me and the BF wanted a fast and easy meal, have driven by Becks Prime a few times and figured we'd try their food. This is a review for the drive through. Stared at the drive through menu for a good 5 minutes, lots of burger and shake choices. He got the Bill's burger and I got the cheeseburger, side of regular fries, and chips with queso and salsa. The total came to a little over $30, we thought it was a little pricy for a drive-through burger meal but when we got home, OH-MY-GOSH I had no idea a drive through burger could be so delish. It was perfectly cooked (medium), the perfect amount of burger to bun to topping ratio. They gave us a huge bag of tortilla chips for the queso which was also ah-mazing. Just a fare warning that there are probably 5-10 parking spots at this location, so if you are dining in just save some time and park on the street. The food was great, as usual. We tried this place for the first time. Upon pulling into the parking lot, found the first issue of extremely limited parking. After waiting for a spot and almost getting into the multiple drive thrus, we finally walked inside to an immaculately clean restaurant and excessive (almost creepy) use of the word "Sir" by very attentive employees. Everything smelled great! I ended up ordering a tenderloin sandwich, Parmesan crisps and an iced tea for $18! I was expecting a party in my mouth, instead I ended up with a little meat in a tasty bun and some really tasty crackers. Don't get me wrong, the food was Delicious, but for $18 I expected more. My girlfriend on the other hand ordered a bubba burger, fries and a drink for $11 and I think I was more impressed with that combo. The clientele on a Sunday evening seemed to be mostly well off River Oaks residents. So if you're looking for a good group to rob, I'd select the patio patrons. I was in Houston for the day and had only a few minutes for lunch. In my mind, I went back and forth on where I would spend those precious few lunch minutes. I settled on Becks figuring it would be the quickest. And Becks delivered on that front. First, kudos to Becks for knowing how a burger should be made: sesame seed buns, meat, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, and mustard. No mayo, ketchup, or other fancy junk. The fries were good. The burger itself was average, not the best in Houston, not by a long shot. My biggest complaint would be the bun; it is the same bun you can get at the grocery store. And the meat, while juicy and cooked on a grill (the patty had grill marks), was just okay. Becks would have gotten three stars on its food alone, but is getting knocked a star because they have no wifi; my burger, fries, and tea were almost $15.00 (a bit pricy for what I got); and for using grocery store bought buns. Becks is definitely the best burger chain in town. I've been going to them since I was in high school (late 80's). Note that they are a bit pricey -- especially as you add on fries, drink, etc. I tend to be stuck in the Hickory Cheeseburger rut but I would also highly recommend their Grilled Ahi Tuna sandwich. The latter has the perfect combination of ingredients paired with perfectly grilled (over hickory) tuna. First off, I am rating Beck's Prime a 4-star because the beef patties were really fresh and very hefty! I didn't ask how much the patties weigh, but I'm sure it was a 1/2-lb burger. I had the Bill's Burger, which comes with a common combination of toppings-- grilled onions, lettuce, jalapeños, bacon, and cheddar cheese. This burger is dressed with prime sauce, but I couldn't taste it whatsoever. The patio is a plus, especially when the weather is amazing out. It's right off of Kirby St. making people watching very easy. It was only a tad annoying hearing the people yell orders at the drive thru. Now the reason I wished Yelp allowed half stars because I really wanted to give this place 3.5 stars. I felt some aspects of Beck's Prime was worth 3-stars... I don't like eating around dirty tables. I don't know if the staff is usually that busy or short-staffed. But while sitting on the patio, half the tables were left dirty longer than I truly expected. Only one table was bussed while I ate and sat there with my boyfriend for about 30-45 minutes. We decided to bus our own table before we left because obviously they were slow at cleaning up tables after patrons left. Another reason I wanted to rank the place with 3.5-stars was because the beef patty, although fresh, was not well seasoned. Actually, I felt like the meat wasn't seasoned at all. For the price of the burgers, I would have rather gone to Fuddruckers for a tastier burger for less the price charged at Beck's. Thankfully, they had an April Fool's promotion going on for $5 off the day I went. I will definitely be back when I receive news of other promotions. I can see why other people like Beck's Prime. But as a burger geek, I can't really get into a pretty average burger, even if the meat (when cooked right) is A+, numero uno. I will note, however, the sweet potato fries are wicked awesome. The place is crowded due to its size, but manages to fit a lot of people comfortably into a very small space. There's a small order window below their menu that you can peruse their decent sized menu. They have a feel of a really cool fast food joint, with prices about 20% higher than typical fast food, along with homemade lemonade, and several beers to go along with a variety of burgers. The buns are fresh, nicely toasted, and lightly covered in butter. They're on the small side, however. If they were slightly larger, I really feel like they'd be perfectly chewy and soft to compliment the burger. As is, they just hold the meat, with a little butter, which is nice. The patty is composed of ground chuck roast, which is about as high quality as steak meat. Very firm and substantial, it would be extremely satisfying had it not been burnt about two bits past well-done. It's not bad -- I do admit the charred bits around the end were pretty good -- but overall, the beef is not very juicy. It's also not very seasoned, so it basically tastes like some high quality ground steak with absolutely nothing on it, slightly burnt. I honestly could not tell you what the "prime sauce" tasted like, because I could not pick out any particular flavor beyond the beef itself. The toppings are fresh, tomatoes, onions, and lettuce all crisp. The cheese is of the grated completely non-melted variety. I'm not sure if there are people who like their cheeseburgers with non-melted cheese, but I know that I am not one of those people. What's the point? Why not just give me a burger and a block of cheese from the supermarket then? Of the sides, we only tried the sweet potato fries, which are PERFECT. I'm a fan of sweet potato fries in general, but they fry them perfectly, cut them to the exact right size so they're right between chewy and crispy, and perfectly seasoned with sea salt and garlic pepper. It's really quite amazing how well seasoned the fries are considering how dry the beef patty was. Everyone in our group was raving about them. Overall, it's a decent tasting burger, that really highlights good meat, and has fresh toppings with good sides that could have been icing on the cake. The entire package is sort of average, with a burnt patty, not enough seasoning and nothing wowing about the toppings. It's good, but probably living more off its reputation (there were no fewer than 5 reviewer recommendations on the paper basket lining) than its actual quality. read more

This is one of my favorite burger joints! It's your basic burger, no frills. It's a good portion of meat, perfect for the bun size. The fries are good enough to stand up next to the burger. I'd skip the steak sandwich. I was finally tempted forgo my burger for the sandwich, and I was pretty disappointed. It's not that the steak wasn't good, oh it was. I just didn't understand why I needed to put my delicious steak in between two pieces of bread. What's the point? My first trip here left a lot to be desired. Parking is ridiculously limited. if there were another parking spot available, I could understand it, but if one person is a jerk and parks in two spaces (and someone did while we were there), you're left with about four spaces. I had the Bubba Burger and a side of fries. Along with a drink, it was $13. I'm no stranger to paying a premium for good food, but once I got my burger, I was disappointed to see that it was loaded with way too many raw onions and seemed to just be kind of...plain. There was definitely enough meat, though. I should have known better than to order the fries because I know I don't like natural cut fries, so I can't really hold that against them. Also, I'm going to agree with a few people who have previously said this: those booths are way, way too high for the tables and it's awkward. The staff, however, was really nice and the service was very prompt. Once I went to throw away my trash, though, the trash can was so full I had to put my arm up to the elbow inside the bin to get to a place that the trash wasn't so high that mine wouldn't overflow (if that makes sense...). Surprisingly good burger. A sign said they make their patties each day, and mine tasted like it - fresh and juicy, like a homemade burger. Also some good grilled flavor. The California burger has nice guacamole on it. Fries tasted good but were a little greasy and could have been a lot crispier. The outdoor patio is great, even though you're on Kirby, it's not the busiest block and there's a buffer of trees. Will definitely be back. Upon further review, we have declared it the best burger in Houston. So far. Worth an extra star. Despite the fries which have good flavor but are often soggy and cold. Skip the fries. Upon even further reviews, the fries suck. And there's no good alternative, no onion rings, side salad, etc. Gotta take back that 5th star. Goode Company Taqueria gets my current vote as best burger+fry combo. read more

It's just an okay burger. The parking lot is small and confusing so be prepared for that. There are other burger places I prefer.
