This restaurant is truly a gem!! The food was fresh and the meat was superbly prepared. I loved the salad bar, hard to no fill up on it! The staff were very congenial and friendly. The staff here are very good and they remember you and treat you like family. The homey feel of this restaurant makes me want to keep coming back and I do often. I have had a wide variety of food here. The burgers, sandwiches, fish, steaks, sides, and salad bar are all very good. I honestly have no idea why anyone would give this place 4 or 5 stars! I'm beginning to think most Yelp-ers in the SP/Pinehust area have never been outside these towns! If you think Beefeaters has "the best salad bar you've ever seen" - it's time to do some traveling. I'll buy your bus ticket, consider it my charitable contribution to broaden your horizons beyond the trailer park. Upon entering Beefeaters, you'll first note the pleasant aroma of 15-year-old cigarette smoke in the lobby. You'll then notice the cluttered, bizarre, thrift store decor of numerous heavy-framed mirrors and stock posters. The walls are drab, painted paneling, ceilings are low and dirty and ceiling fans leave you wondering how many years worth of dust they can churn into your food. After being seated, you'll be presented with a plate of captains wafers and a glob of squeez-cheez. No joke. The salad bar will offer 1 bowl of lettuce, a standard selection of veggies (and the requisite shredded cheddar cheese, crutons and bacon bits from the grocery store) and a few uninspired dressings. Dinner rolls will appeal to you if you enjoy packaged rolls from the freezer section of Wal-Mart. You'll also enjoy the menu, particularly if you enjoy nostalgia from the early eighties, maybe seventies (it clearly hasn't changed since then). It offers very standard choices of a few cuts of steak, overwhelmingly boring seafood and a grilled chicken breast. The food is fine, but if you have access to a store and a kitchen, you can whip this stuff up yourself for a fraction of the cost (and spare yourself from the creepy, awkward ambiance). This place reminds me of an establishment that would be well-patronized by senior citizens from the midwest who love prime rib and uninspiring salad bars. We had the Lobster tail and filet, onion rings, garlic mashed potatoes, and salad bar. The lobster and beef were decent. The garlic mashed potatoes were a bad joke. They were regular mashed potatoes with garlic powder/salt sprinkled on them. Yuck! There are better options in the area if you want beef (among which is NOT the Southern Prime Steakhouse). When you came to Pinehurst for the week long golf trip these three were where you went for dinner. Over the years the only survivor is Beefeaters. The young lady who worked at Beefeaters until she was in a position to purchase the restaurant has done a fantastic job. Was there last night a Monday and the place was packed. Although you could eat just the wonderful salad bar the food is to good not to order an entree. I've been here so many times I've had almost everything offered. Never had a meal I didn't like. My husband and I wanted a great prime rib. We haven't eaten out in several months & having eaten at Beefeaters in the past, they were our first choice for great prime rib. You did not disappoint!! The dining in process was in accordance with social distancing rules, so we didn't feel like we had anyone right on top of us. Brittany, our server, was amazing. She answered all our questions and was so friendly and has a great customer service attitude. The meal was delicious. The prime rib was cooked exactly as order, was tender and had the best taste. They didn't have the "usual" salad bar, but there was a menu with most everything that was on the previous salad bar. Overall... Disappointing. We really wanted to visit this restaurant, as it always seems crowded when we run past. Unfortunately, it was a big disappointment. The building was a bit outdated, featuring drop ceilings that reminded me of my 1980s fixed up basement. I was surprised to see a salad bar... I didn't know that was still a thing, especially in a "nice restaurant." Still, we checked it out. The wait for the salad bar was substantial, despite its simplicity and health concerns... like hair in the food and people using their bare hands. The steaks were okay. I absolutely love how friendly everyone is. I'm 28 and I've been going to this restaurant since I was little. We always do family birthdays and gatherings there. The grilled chicken sandwich from the bar is SO good. But you can also get the chicken in the dining room menu. The past two times I have eaten there I have not been impressed. Besides higher prices the quality of the food has not been that great. They have have a very limited capacity to make dietary accommodations. Many of their customers are older adults with health issues. The ability to prepare low sodium or low carbohydrate choices is limited. The only side they provide to meet this requirement is prepackaged and mainly broccoli. Even the chicken was prepared with a marinade instead of just being plain chicken. They have difficulty adapting to special dietary requests. The staff was pleasant. For what you spend on a meal here they could do a better job. If you are looking for a restaurant that can provide good choices for your diabetic or heart dietary needs, this is not it. read more

I had Prime Rib and Mississippi Mud Pie. Both were plentiful and enjoyable. Prime Rib was thick, Med rare and flavorful. They had a generous complementary salad bar. I could not finish the pie. They charge extra for À la mode for the pie. We had Salmon bites for an appetizer and they were also excellent. Price was reasonable and service speed was fine. My bill was $32.32 plus tax. I went to Beefeaters about 2 or 3 years ago, and I remembered that it was pretty good. So last night, after a round of golf, we stopped by for dinner. I got the Beefeaters Broil (steak chunks) with garlic mashed potatos ($13.99), and it was excellent. It had a side of au jus with it, and I dunked each piece of meat in it. Great flavor! They bring you some cheese spread before the meal, and we got a second dish. Tasted great on the crackers. Salad bar is probably the best I've ever had. Huge selection, with the chunks of cheese and fruit salad being my favorite. My brother liked the pickled okra. My nephew liked the fresh pineapple wedges. The salad is included with the meal. My son got the chicken kabobs and they were great. They had some kind of sweet glaze on it, and it was really good. My nephew got the smothered pork chops and my brother got a ribeye. Everyone just went on and on about how good everything was. Yeah, this place is a few dollars higher that I normally pay, but we had a meal that was good from start to finish. read more

We are new to the area and after reading the reviews wanted to try this place. We went earlier than our reservation so we could have a drink at the bar. The bar was a mess! Crowded with tables not being cleared. We got a seat at the bar, the bartender was very attentive and made great drinks. It goes downhill from there. After having a couple of drinks we went to check on our reservation. Oops,she forgot to write down that we were waiting in the bar but had crossed off our name from the reservation list! The waitress was very attentive but the food was barely average. Salad bar was uninspired and people waiting in line for it were right next to people trying to eat their dinner. I'm immediately leery of any steakhouse that has a salad bar. The older crowd at Beefeaters seemed to love it though. The staff was very courteous and the waitress was extremely attentive. I've been eating here since 1996... and even though ownership has changed hands, the quality remains the same. The salad bar offers tons of toppings.. including smoked oysters. I had the seafood chowder this time along with blackened scallops. Next time I'll ask that my scallops be seared, the seasoning for blackening was heavy and gritty, but overall my meal was delicious. My mom ordered the beef medallions and had leftovers, the portions are plentiful. Low lit atmosphere and includes a bar with separate lively seating area. Was really disappointed with the serviced received tonight, I could not leave a tip with the waitress we had. It seemed she was very rushed and while she might have had other tables, it seemed to not be worth it wait on our meager table of two. We were not asked if we would like to have an appetizer, I had to stop her before she left when taking our order to add that in. I noticed other tables got bread rolls before or during salads as well as cracker plates while ours came right before the entrees. Two times my drink ran out before I got a refill. She never stopped to ask if we wanted steak sauce for our entrees and the bread rolls brought to us were too hard, I had to cut mine with a knife to even break the crust. Also unlike others around us, we were not given a ticket with a tray with the mints, she just put the ticket on the table after we waited a while for her to get us the ticket. read more

I support local businesses as much as possible, especially during the Covid nightmare. Been dining at Beefeaters for 30 years and has always been very good- most of the time excellent. Last night was terrible. Server was unfriendly and unattentive. Drinks sat empty for a long time before she appeared and refilled. When we ordered, we told the server what we wanted on our salads (salad bar is closed due to covid), ordered our entrées and side and the server asked us what we wanted for our second side. I remarked that I thought we only got one side and she said, "No, you get two." So my wife and I both ordered a second side. My broccoli soup had a skin on the top when served and was thick, like gravy. Tasted a lot like flour. Wife tasted and agreed. Tasted like flour. Overall, way worse than the worst canned broccoli soup I've ever eaten, but at least it was served hot. Entrées came out room temperature. Wife's salmon was a little warm. My $32 prime rib was cold, dry, and had a freezer-burn funky taste. Wife had ordered a sweet potato and received an Idaho. Waitress had repeated "sweet pototo" when wife ordered so she didn't mishear. Both our baked potatoes were room temperature and tasteless. Sent my steak and potato back and waitress brought my wife her sweet potato. The second prime rib was a little better (barely warm and had some au jus poured on) but still tasted funky and the meat's texture was like the first one, kind of like a thick slab of bologna with no marbling and no flavor, except the funk. Second baked potato was cold. Waitress removed my meal from the table and removed its cost from our tab. When the bill came, we were charged $22 for our salads because we had ordered "2 sides and a salad." The owner met us at the front counter, was apologetic, and removed the salads. I'm not a food snob and not being overly critical, but this was one of the worst meals I've ever experienced. I want to be understanding that covid has made running many businesses very difficult, especially restaurants. However, I'm not joking or exaggerating when I say that almost any fast food service and meal would be excellent compared to our Beefeaters experience last night. I hope the owner and management make needed improvements. Beefeaters can't last forever on the reputation it built years ago. read more

Won't be returning (really only surprised that we came back more than once). Before I comment on our disappointing experience last night I want to suggest to the owner/manager that the bad smelling carpet be removed or replaced. After being seated we discovered from our server that she had lost her voice and while I am very sympathetic, it seemed unwise for someone who actually seemed unwell to be serving food that night. Perhaps that helps to explain the mix up with my husband's order as he was brought a meal that clearly was not what he ordered. So I had my meal and tried to eat it slowly, but it was another 20 minutes before his plate returned and the ribs he ordered arrived looking and tasting burnt (black and crusted). Now mix ups happen but it would have been appropriate to get some kind of apology first from the server and then when we asked for the manager it would have been expected that we get MORE than an apology...needless to say we got neither. We didn't expect to get a free meal out of it but offering a dessert and an apology would have helped--the manager only said that she would "speak to the server." I read another review on here by Jarrod saying "the 90's called and they want it back..." I think maybe it was the 80's. Luckily there are lots of better dining options in this area. read more

Have not been to beefeaters in a few years obviously new owners I found them overpriced and the food was ok at best but if you want to charge $30 for a steak don't give me a steak on a plate with a metal bowl with garlic mashed potatoes in it and somebody should teach the people in the kitchen A class on presentation will not go back again no veg on plate boring 4 people $200 plus with only 2 beers and 2 glasses of wine read more
