What I really liked is that you get 2 mini beignets with each entrée ordered, either regular or glazed. Fab beignets! They were my first and they didn't feel oily on the outside, were soft, but with substance on the inside. Really delicious. I'll come back if I'm in the area again, but I'd skip the coffee and café au lait. Both were weak. Maybe order to go and eat them at home with strong coffee or maybe sneak in your own strong coffee, if you don't like eating anything with powdered sugar at home. But definitely get the beignets. I only tried the original and an order came with 3. I should have gotten two orders, but didn't want to be a super fatty. Planning on trying a couple chains in NOLA so I have a basis for comparison, but I'm sure these will still be the best. read more

We ran into this place while on our way to the Eco-Tour near the Pearl River. I'm not a beignet fan but these chocolate covered beignets were the BOMB! Traveling from California I wanted to stop and get some beignets. I decided to try this place and i truly enjoyed my entire meal and so did my husband and picky eater son. The beignets were perfect I even shared with my husband and he said "no wonder why the guy keeps getting fat in princess and the frog." This is the go to for beignets, hands down. We found this place on our first trip to New Orleans and was completely surprised by the excellent food we received!!! We tried Cafe Du Monde, and Im sure there's a reason for the hype, but the beginets were definitely not as good as Beignet Au Lait. We tried Cafe Beignet and still the same...the beignets were over cooked, hard, and complete greasy mess. The breakfast that we always get is outstanding and my granddaughter, who is a real picky eater, ate all of her grits when we stopped here. After trying Cafe du Monde and Cafe Beignet, I was thrilled to find the best tasting beignets were at Beignet au Lait in Slidell! Beyond the facts that the dough they use tastes better and is cooked perfectly, I enjoyed their creative approach beignets: Warm, drippy, delectable glazes. They offer a dozen options for glazes, and the Wedding Cake and Eggnog were our favorites. (Eggnog went well with the Cafe au lait.) They want to be the VooDoo Donuts of beignets, and I think they are doing it right! I hope they are able to expand soon! We are regulars to Beignet Au Lait. The croissants are very good. However, the owner is not very nice. She seems to have a new employee every week. This morning when we picked up our order she was reprimanding her employee in front of all the customers. This isn't the first time we have seen her doing this. The girl this morning was doing her best to help each customer. There was another time that their telephone was busy for a while and when we mentioned it to the owner she just looked at us like we were crazy. This afternoon was my first time there and I was quite impressed. At other restaurants, I always end up having to put some sugar in my cafe au lait, but it wasn't necessary here. Beignets were absolutely perfect in every way. Not exaggerating. The waitress was really friendly. Went here with my family on New Year's Day, and keep in mind for this review it was the only restaurant in town open. The food was pretty good, average diner food, the fun thing about this place is that they will dress up your beignets for you! I got the praline pecan ones and it was pretty tasty! Also I realize that it was a holiday, but there was only one waitress and the sweet lady was being worked! It took a very long time for us to get our drinks and then the food came out staggered, half the table was almost done eating before everyone had a plate. This was the meeting place for me to retrieve my "lost/misplaced" purse I left in a girlfriend's car after a long Friday night out. Cute quiet little cafe in Slidell around the mall area. Located in a strp mall so there's lots of parking. The menu is fairly simple...croissant sandwiches, beignets, grits, and all your typical meat sides. Mostly everyone in our party opted for the grit bowl....which was grits with scrambled eggs and your choice of meat (sausage patties or bacon) that came with two mini beignets. The grits were creamy, but needed salt and butter and they were kind of stingy on the order of bacon on my friends plate. The beignets though....were hot and melt in your mouth goodness. After I stole the two from my date's plate...I gluttonously place an order of mini beignets to-go. That I struggled to eat the remainder of the day might I add lol.
