I tried on 2 separate occasions before I wrote my review. First of all the owner and staff were very friendly. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. There is a nice amount of seating and everything was nice and clean inside. On my 1st visit I tried the praline and sweet potato beignets. The praline was good but I wished it was stuffed inside instead of drizzled on top. I didn't care for the second one which I thought was sweet potato but realized after my second visit that it was strawberry cheesecake. No wonder I said I didnt taste any sweet potato lol! That being said, my second visit I ordered a strawberry lemonade and strawberry cheesecake beignet. The lemonade was delicious but I don't care for the cheesecake beignet. The beignet itself was good! Kinda thick like I like it. I just don't care for the taste of the cheesecake! I will go back to try the sweet potato beignets. Hopefully the 3rd time is the charm. They also do lunch and breakfast items. I will return to try more items. ************************************** Unfortunately the 3rd time was NOT the charm. I end up going back and decided on the praline and sweet potato. The sweet potato is definitely a no for me. It wasn't sweet at all. I guess I had candied yams in mind and this flavor just wasn't there. Now the biggest disappointment was the praline one. It wasn't made fresh to order and the inside was hollow. The praline was runny. It needs to be thicker. Not sure if I will return. Now I did reach out via IG and the customer service was great. I'm just not sure if this spot is for me when it comes to beignets.

Nice shop. It's located in a great area. I went there on a Thursday afternoon. The service was good and I didn't have a long wait. They have a variety of beignets you can choose from different flavors and you also can get three different beignets. I chose the strawberry cheesecake praline, and cinnamon roll. My order was to go, but immediately when I got into my car, I tried the beignets and they were lukewarm. The praline beignet was not thick but runny which kind of ran through my plate. The flavor was good, but the beignet was hollow in the inside. Overall they were good just needed a tad more batter and should be cooked to order. I also ordered a club sandwich tat came with chips it was good also.

We specifically found this restaurant because we searched online for gluten free restaurants, so we were excited to see that you offered a separate gluten free menu. However, there are some serious issues with the accuracy of that menu that need to be addressed. When we asked about the pork rinds brought to the table, we were told they are fried in the same oil as everything else. That in itself is your choice as a restaurant, and we understand cross contamination can happen. We were also told the french fries are cooked in beef tallow in a separate fryer, but they are not considered gluten free, which is why they are not listed on the gluten free menu. Again, that is completely understandable. What is not acceptable is having items listed on the gluten free menu that are not actually gluten free due to cross contamination. The pork rinds and cheddar filled tater tots were both listed on the gluten free menu despite being fried in shared oil with gluten containing foods. For someone with celiac disease, this is not a small mistake or a dietary preference issue. My husband has celiac disease, and if he had eaten the pork rinds based on trusting the gluten free menu, he could have become extremely ill and potentially needed hospital care. Our daughter has gluten sensitivity, and she would have been sick for the rest of the night as well. Many people still treat gluten free as if it is just a fad diet, but for people with celiac disease, it is a serious autoimmune condition that causes real physical harm. To the OWNER: please educate your staff and kitchen on what gluten free truly means, and update the menu so customers can trust it. People with celiac disease should not have to risk getting sick because menu items are mislabeled.

It's Simple as the name suggests…read more Nothing fancy or elaborate about this place. It's a small restaurant with a small open kitchen and a small dining room where you stand in line to place your order, get a number to put on your table, and servers bring the food to your table when it's ready. So, if you're looking for a large upscale, elegant restaurant with elaborate food presentations, this is not the place for you. But if you're looking for a simple, quick and delicious meal, Simple Joe Café is for you. The menu consists of a wide variety of breakfast favorites, but the menu is not intimidating and easy to read and order from. Simple enough. When my family and I arrived, the small dining room was packed with a few open tables and about six other customers in line waiting to place their order. On Saturday and Sunday, you cannot sit at the open tables or hold the tables until you have placed your order and given a tent number. At that point, the servers will help you find a table to accommodate your party. The employees do a very good job of clearing and turning over the tables to make sure everyone is seated and able to enjoy their meal in a timely manner. I am not a fan of breakfast food and normally don't eat breakfast, so I only had coffee while my family enjoyed their meal, so the food quality part of this review is based on what they described as they were eating. They each ordered Joe's Number One Breakfast Combos which came with two eggs, choice of meat and pancakes and they shared an order of hashbrown and a side of grits. The food came out quickly. They stated everything was fresh, prepared and cooked as requested, the food tasted very good and enjoyed every bite. Of course, the coffee was hot, and fresh and the service was fast and friendly. The relaxed ambience and decor add to the unique character of the restaurant. Date of Visit: Saturday 05-16-26 Simple Joe Café | 3057 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA

This place is awesome…read more I ended up here the other day not because I planned ahead. Instead, I was trying to meet a friend for lunch and he was so late that we couldn't get in where were trying to go. I saw the sign and off we went to Simple Joe Cafe. Simple, it is. Awesome food, it also is. This place is not fancy nor is it meant to be. This is a solidly Americana type menu and ordering at the counter, serving your own coffee, and picking your own table kind of place. AKA - the kind of place I love. I have been here a few times now and only had breakfast. Hint: they serve it all day. The two meat omelet is a great choice and has been my go-to. The other day some friends got burgers and a club sandwich and those looked great too. This will definitely be in the rotation for lunch.

I couldn't pull out the share and sit without bumping into the lady behind me. There was a bit of a distance from behind us on the other table so we were able to pull that table back. During our visit, the restaurant was hosting a Santa brunch. It was nice to see the kiddos with parents and family, Mrs. Clause and the Grinch walking around. This was a nice to along with the unlimited mimosas, meals, and the hot chocolate bar. Our waitress was amazing! She was pleasant, kind, professional, and attentive. We stated off with the shrimp corn dogs. They were fried to perfection and the corn dog taste was great. They were hot and fresh. The tenderness of the shrimp was also great. The only feedback is that it would have tasted much better had the shrimp been seasoned. Without the creole mustard dipping sauce, there was a bland taste. For our main dish, I had the crawfish omelette. The sauce was good, however the texture of the egg was less than desirable. It was made perfectly round in a skillet and gave the texture of powdered eggs. When I inquired about it. I was told that it was mixed with milk, whipped, and baked. I would have preferred it with a regular egg. My significant other had the smoked salmon and avocado toast and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Turns out we got and order of the boudin pie instead of the crawfish pie but it was delicious! He did bring us out a crawfish pie to try (not pictured) and it was also excellent!! The red beans and rice were the best I've had. And I've done a red beans and rice tour in NOLA and this was the best I've had!! We rounded out our meal with the Eye of the Tiger pie. And holey moley!!! The best finish to our meal!! They also have a great craft beer selection on draft. The only downside to this place is the parking is not great and there are only two bathrooms that are unisex. But heck....I'll be back every time I visit BR!!
