Food was fine, but easily one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. I accidentally ordered coconut shrimp instead of coconut chicken. When the food came out I took the shrimp up to the counter and said, "I'm so sorry, I wanted the coconut chicken not the shrimp." The woman told me I said shrimp. I told her I didn't think I did, but regardless I did not want the shrimp. She went back and forth with me for a while before she said, "it's on camera." I told her again that I didn't think I said shrimp but even still I didn't want it. She rang up the chicken and asked me to pay. I told her if she was going to make me pay I would just keep the shrimp. I then left to go sit with my family to finish our meal. I was done with the situation. The lady came to the table a few minutes later and put her phone near my face and told me to watch the recording of me ordering food. I told her I did not care to see it and was busy feeding my 18 month old daughter. She stayed and played the entire 30 second conversation just to prove she was right about me saying shrimp before leaving and reminding me again that I said shrimp. At that point, my family and I decided to leave. We packed up the kids and got ready to leave. As we were leaving the lady came out and said the coconut chicken was almost done. We took the chicken and said our goodbyes. I have been in customer service for almost a decade and have dealt with similar situations where I knew the customer misspoke. The average transaction was about $400. Instead of arguing with the customer and shoving video recordings in their faces I just made the customer happy to ensure their continued patronage knowing the company would be out maybe $200 or so. To be so petty and insistent over $13 of chicken was astounding to me. Because of this interaction we will never be going back to this establishment and will strongly encourage friends and family to not spend their money here. read more

Some of the most tasteless Hunan chicken I've had. Rice was ok. We were surprised their spring rolls have fish in them ... or something. Whatever it was, it was pretty good but it didn't taste vegetarian like normal spring rolls, so my daughter wouldn't eat hers. Also, I should have asked them not to use MSG because I felt horrible after eating it. They were quick and friendly and the portions were generous ... but I wouldn't go there again. read more

Ordered a variety for a family of 6, all adults, on a phone in order. We ordered small sizes except for the soup and fried rice which we all love and share. As is usual, it was all filling, terrific and good balance of meat to veg to rice. The quality keeps us coming back. The price to feed 6, $52.00. I always get black pepper chicken when I go to Chinese restaurants, this time was no exception and the chicken was too sweet, tastes like FISH and the peppers in it were basically whole and uncooked. Usually order chow mei fun which is okay. Today I tried something new "seafood delight " not a delight mostly fake crabmeat ( POLLACK )not enough shrimp or scallops big disappointment. There aren't many Chinese restaurants in town and the other places don't set the bar very high, so Beijing is definitely the best Chinese food, but also, it's really good! I've had the general Tso chicken and the Mongolian beef and both are great. The beef was so tender! The egg drop soup may be the best I've ever had. read more

We were lucky to discover this place. Finding a place to stop for dinner on Christmas Eve is a dangerous proposition when traveling with two small (and hungry) children. To be fair, it was the only place open. Also to be fair, this is a great restaurant! The Bourbon Chicken was better than any dish I've had at a Chinese restaurant in years. The owner and her sons were kind and accomodating to my family. They made us feel more like family than like customers. I am a total Chinese food addict, so I have been to every Chinese restaurant in Crawfordsville, and Beijing is definitely the best! The food is always hot and fresh. I order pick-up and it is always ready in 10-15 minutes. I have never been disappointed with anything I've gotten there. My husband and I usually get the dinner for two special. It comes with general tso's chicken with rice, pork or chicken lo mein with rice, and two egg rolls for around $14. It is a lot of food and usually lasts a couple of meals. I have never eaten inside the restaurant, but there are only a couple of tables. Pros: Great Chinese food for a low price Cons: Limited seating and some communication issues When you walk in the front door you might wait for a minute before some one shows up at the front counter to take your order. When I placed my order I was asked a question about vegetables that I couldn't quite understand. After being asked a second time I just smiled and said yes. Granted I believe the less fluent the restaurant owners are in English the better the food is, so I saw this as a positive thing. As a Chinese food fanatic, I've had dishes from all over the US from different Chinese restaurants. Beijing is hands down the BEST food and owners I've ever encountered. The portions are not only delicious, and made to your liking (extra spicy, etc.), they are huge for the price. I fell really ill and can no longer cook for my family so we tend to order takeout 1-2x a week. Out of all the options for takeout Beijing is our #1, once a week, every week! We've NEVER had a meal we didn't like and I have a picky eater here! And due to portion size we're able to get 2-3 meals out of one order! This is truly a hole In the wall little storefront place. The are only 3 or 4 formica topped tables inside. My husband & I were in Crawfordsville for one night, passing through in an RV. We were the only people who actually ate in the restaurant, but 7 or 8 people came in to pick up take out orders. There's no ambience, but the food was excellent. This was the only Chinese place around when I went to Wabash (minus the buffets) and it was actually my first Chinese experience, so I grew to love this place! Beijing is tucked behind a bank, and I honestly didn't notice this place for months while living here. The food here is very good, and they will fix off the menu items upon request as well. For example, sesame beef which is not on the menu, but they will fix upon request. The sesame beef was crispy, fresh, and so so good. They do have inside dining but only a couple tables. We go there so much they always give my boys a free drink super quick usually the food is ready within 15-20 minutes. I really wanted to enjoy this food. My family all ordered szechwan versions. I ordered the pork. The pork was a salted meat. Not ham but some other flavor. The dish was too salty and I did not enjoy the pork at all. The sauce was too heavy on the tomato paste and there was absolutely no zing that szechwan claims to have. Zero on the heat scale basically. My family ordered chicken and beef. They also had the same tomato paste sauce and said their meats were also very salty. It was a total bust on the szechwan option. Other dishes may be better. It was just disappointing to have such a heavy salted meal, no heat to the promised szechwan name and the sauce was like eating salty tomato paste. read more

Beijing sets the standards in Crawfordsville for delicious Chinese take out as well as how a family ran restaurant can have outstanding customer service. I have tried every place in town, including the buffets that fall short in every aspect. But that's for a different review. Beijing's food is always fresh with large portions. I can definitely taste the love for the food with every bite. It is hard to find any restaurant that provides you with a glimpse of the passion they have for their food simply by taste. To find it hidden in a small area on one of the ends of town is amazing. This is a family ran operation with a family that knows how to take care of their customers. Every time I step foot into the place I am greeted with a sincere feeling "Hello, what can I get for you?" I know that is a normal phrase for most establishments, but I can feel the sincerity from this place. Everyone is so friendly from the parents to the kids. I feel happy when leaving the place and haven't even eaten anything yet. Beijing has every area of taste and service covered. The only reason why I didn't award 5 stars is simply due to the lack of dining space and the lack of delivery. The dining area is comprised of just a few small tables. You can definitely tell this is a primarily take out place. The lack of delivery is nothing new to the area. No one is Crawfordsville delivers Chinese food. One place says they do but they don't. If Beijing delivered I don't think any other Chinese restaurant could stay in business. What ever they do here works great. You won't find a better Chinese place anywhere in the area. I've been a customer at Beijing since they opened up business and they have never failed to provide fresh and tasty Chinese food from an extensive menu, usually within 15 minutes. The meats are always tender, the vegetables always fresh and cooked just right, for me at least. Finally, the portions are generous and the prices have been very steady, not like some other eateries in town. Chinese Beijing is well worth the drive across town for an excellent take out meal.
