Went there for delicious Chinese and was left unhappy and still hungry. Not only hungry for food but for savory and tasty food. The customer service was less than welcoming and just wanted to get orders out the door. On top of the bad service, my sauces were an extra charge and there no rice offering with my order. Ming Du is one of those restaurants you walk in and just feel comfortable. The owner is very friendly with an infectious smile. The staff are all extremely friendly. Plenty of parking. Seats are comfortable, decor gives it that old school feeling. We started with the hot and sour soup. They do a great job with this. You can tell they put their heart into this. It has those complex flavors created by vinegar, whine and white pepper to give it a perfect kick. Absolutely delicious! The PuPu platter had a strong showing. The beef teriyaki was marinated perfectly and very tender. The fingers and shrimp were breaded perfectly with a nice crunch while the protein wasn't overcooked. Crab rangoons were creamy with a slight hint of sweetness. They were really good. Wings were really good right out of the kitchen. Overall the appetizers were really good! Thier pork fried rice (I get it without onions) was spot on, very good! Orange crispy beef will make you want to come back for more. To truly enjoy any crispy dish I always suggest eating in. This was great! Kung Pao chicken was cooked just right. Absolutely delicious! This a great place for Chinese food. Their prices are lower than most of the places I go. Not the warmest welcome... actually no real welcome at all. Walking into a place for the first time, I at least expect a greeting, but the "host" was helping someone else so idk? I wonder if she greeted the guy who walked in seconds before me? Maybe two ppl in a row was just too much? Grabbed one of the menus on the table to see what they had to offer. Tried to peak around corners to see if there was a buffet that day, but couldn't see anything due to the layout and decor so I asked and was told they don't have a buffet. Oh wow the host does speak! Lol Most have been old pre-covid buffet pics that i saw. I didn't know if I should seat myself for table service or how it worked so I just asked if I could sit at the bar, she said yes. I'm in an unfamiliar city, and the bar is usually a safe space everywhere. The bartender was helping other patrons and also tending to surrounding booths. When she finally came over, I had to ask for a drink menu. I wanted the pineapple something but settled on a beer because she seemed busy. I sat there hungry wanting to order food for a minute. When i finished my beer, she came back over. Luckily I had made a decision from the menu I saw up front. Getting my usual from every new Chinese restaurant I try (I assumed it was Chinese looking at the menu) General Tso's Chicken combo and fried wontons... Tbh when she asked if I wanted fried or white rice, I should have went with my gut that said white rice. I had noticed that two different diners at the bar had not eaten their fried rice, But I wanted to be consistent in ordering at new place. The fried rice was disgusting. Then I tasted it again and was still like nope, It still wasn't good. The chicken was okay, it could have been crisper. I liked the sauce because it tasted just like the brand I buy at home. The egg roll was excellent! The "fried wonton" was a disappointment. There was no stuffing or filling, which was a first for me. They were literally fried wonton wrappers. I left most of them behind along with that rice. I had a blue moon draft since they ran out of Angry Orchard. The beer was fine. I mean the bartender slightly warmed up after I ordered food and said it was to dine in. Maybe at first she thought i was doing takeout so her tip would be small. I could see she was very friendly with the locals. Or Maybe they don't like out-of-towners here? When I left, I thought maybe it's because I had on a NY Yankees hat and anyone who follows sports knows about their rival with Boston. This is well know Chinese restaurant in town. I went in for a pickup and literally had to wait for 40mins for the foods and there are still others waiting after me. I constantly check on the order at first 10mins and again 5mins and ignore me after. I literally told her that I am going to put a bad review for this service and her reply "go ahead" without apologizing. I just read some of the reviews, and as I have been coming here for about 8 years (since I had moved to Canton) I feel that I really should chime in. It's a very comfortable, familiar place--the bar staff (and usually the patrons!) are very kind and chatty (unless it is very busy, which it often is, as it is highly regarded by the regulars). The primary bartender is a woman from Fujian, and her husband is one of the main chefs, so her recommendations are always reliable. People rightfully adore her--she is terrific! And she makes excellent mixed drinks, and puts up with my horrible attempts at Mandarin! Their hot and sour soup is among the best around. It isn't gloppy with too much corn starch, and the taste is authentic, with plenty of tofu, mushrooms, bamboo and lily flowers. I wish other places would learn to make this soup with such care--some other places serve hot and sour soup that is truly like dishwater! Their Shanghai noodles are very good, with a huge serving of shrimp, chicken and pork, and fresh vegetables. Another fine dish is their spicy green beans with pork, which I found surprisingly fresh, with crispy green beans. The combination specials include their special shrimp, which is excellent, with 5-6 jumbo fried shrimp in a sweet and slightly spicy sauce. I usually get either the beef sticks or the beef rangoons with the combos. Both are good choices. The mapo tofu can be hit or miss--on one occasion it was much too bland, but that was takeout during the pandemic. I also like their mu shi dishes. Although they are not a "brilliant new take" on mu shi (I usually don't bother with pancakes!) they are done in the classic style, with plenty of wood ears to add to the flavor and textures, and although the hoisin is a welcome addition, it does NOT require drowning (and that is a very good thing!). The reason for the 4 stars is that I wish it had more offerings of authentic Chinese food (the prior name, Chengdu, was very misleading!). I'm not a sweet and sour or fried rice or chow mein guy. Naturally, the offerings are definitely "American Chinese" (it's not in Chinatown, and certainly isn't in Mainland China!) but the "next level" dishes are very good, very generous and certainly worth a trip. read more

Had lunch with a friend yesterday. Two hot and sour soups and we split an order of egg foo yung. I love their hot and sour soup and ordered a large to go as well. It's seasoned beautifully with just enough kick to make it stand out from others. Egg foo yung was 3 very large pieces in a delectable sauce, not the thick goo that some other places offer. Fresh, hot and delicious. Nothing left to take home. Waitress was attentive without being overbearing and we sat quite awhile catching up without being disturbed. Sadly disappointing. We ordered the Crispy Peppery Calamari. I have eaten this for years at Chinese restaurants, and this wasn't well done at all, there was no peppery about it, and additionally it tasted like it was beer battered. The General Tso's chicken was decent, it was missing the green onion slices. The Moo-Shi Pork thin pancake wrappers were unlike any I had before. I swear they were actually Tortillas. The preparation was meh and not that good. It didn't have the depth of flavor that usually is in this dish. The Chicken Chow-Foon was decent. It was missing any greens though. What are the best Chinese restaurants I've been in a long time we had one server for 27 people approximately and she was great couple of mistakes that it was fine it wasn't her fault it was the fault of the menu. The food came out promptly not more than 10 to 12 minutes from order to table. Everything was hot cooked fresh not a problem nice size portions pleasantly arranged on the plates really good experience overall. I normally give this place 5 stars...just dissapointed. Today I called in a lunch order for some wings fried well done and egg rolls. The woman on the phone said that the order would be ready in 10 minutes. It took me about 15 minutes to get there. When I arrived the same woman asked for my name and went to check on my order. She came back and said that it would be a few more minutes. My wife works from home and I was out running errands and assumed the order would be ready in time for her to eat. Time rolled on and the restaurant was EMPTY!!! So much that the woman at the front desk decided to eat. After what seemed like 15minutes more she handed me the bag and I left. Remember I said well done.. When I reached home and gave my wife lunch my wife called me back into the diningroom to show me RAW CHICKEN after she took a bite. First time ordering from here. Delivery literally took about 20 minutes from time we ordered instead of the hour we were quoted on. Everything was fresh and hot. Not super greasy. The app screwed up our order and didnt charge our card and said we were paying in cash. So we called and the man on the phone was very friendly and polite. Got everything squared away for us in minutes. The only downers were a couple incorrect items. We asked for beef teriyaki and received chicken teriyaki instead, and the pork fried rice didnt have any pork in it. It also was pretty dry and didnt seem as fresh as everything else. I am 90 years old. I love chinese food. But NEVER again at Ming DU. Greeting was like a zombie met me at the door. My friend a nurse practioner went to the restroom and came back with a FLTHY comment. Shold have left them but as we were looking forward to our Thanksgiving premeal, stayed. They served my food (medoocre at best) and did not serve my friends food for another ten minutes. I sat there waiting for her pad thai embarrased for her. Finally a mediocre pad thai arrived. Of course my food now stone cold. Only thing quick service was the arrival of the check. Felt like I need a shower when I left this place.
