We ordered take out and the order was ready in about 15 minutes. We ordered the pepper steak, chicken mei fun with curry sauce, moo goo gai pan, pork egg rolls, and hot and sour soup. The pepper steak had an amazing flavor. It's my favorite pepper steak by far. They adjusted the chicken mei fun for me so that it would have the Singapore noodle sauce. It was awesome. Nice and toasted and full of curry flavor. The moo goo gai pan was pretty good. Their white sauce is pretty flavorful. It is a bit thick but I still liked it. The egg roll was good but nothing super special. We have a couple of other places around GR that are pretty good but we decided to try a new place for fun and this place didn't disappoint. Chinese food in the midwest can be a disappointment. We especially like spicy dishes and no matter how often we ask for 'extra spicy' it rarely meets our expectations. Beijing Kitchen is one of the few places that takes us at our word. We love their Kung Po, extra hot, and good egg rolls too. Ask for their homemade hot mustard (you have to specify what you want) over the usual bland yellow mustard packets. read more

We've catered Beijing Kitchen a few times (my mom's 50th and our son's 1st birthday) and have always loved their food. When I had hour long lunches back in the day, I'd walk to their lunch buffets - which would then cause me to 'work' in a comatose state the rest of the afternoon. We decided to GrubHub them a few Sundays ago to get a break from cooking. As usual, our toddler mao'ed his lo mein noodles. My husband got their bourbon chicken and it stands second in my book to Chinamax at Rivertown - you really can't go wrong with mall Chinese food...I think it has something to do with their special warming lights that give it a little extra flavor and crisp! I got their wontons and decided to try it steamed - really bad idea because the wrap was so tough and thick. For some reason, I was expecting the wonton wrapper that you get when you order gyoza and was very disappointed with the rubbery texture. Next time, I'll have to remember to order that dish fried or soak those babies in the sauce for a few minutes before indulging. Thanks again though! read more

One of my go-to spots for Chinese takeout! Price is good, food is good, and they usually get our order correct. The pan fried dumplings are a MUST. Beijing Kitchen also has chow fun on their menu, which is difficult to find in the Grand Rapids area. Classics like orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and lo mein are also delicious. Solid Chinese food. A bit pricey, but at least the portions are acceptable. We once order pork fried rice, and hot and spicy pork for dinner. This cost 23.40. The food was solid. Nothing dry, nothing too greasy, they didn't skimp on the pork or overload the dish with bamboo. It was a quite enjoyable dinner. Another night, we ordered curry beef and empress chicken. The curry beef was good, but lacking in beef. Lots of vegetables. But it was tasty with an appropriate amount of sauce. The empress chicken -- breaded chunks like you'd get in orange chicken -- was overwhelmingly sweet. I like the sweet stuff (like orange chicken), but this was too much. I figured I would mix the chicken in with my pork fried rice (I usually mix in sweet duck sauce, so I figured it would help deal with the sweetness), but the sweetness was still overwhelming. The flavor is basically a sweet sauce with a hint of chili, but it's definitely not hot. I had to eat a fair amount to notice the slightest amount of heat. Conclusion: I would skip the empress chicken. Curry beef, empress chicken, and pork fried rice for dinner cost 41.95. That's a LOT. And there's no breakdown on the receipt for individual item prices. My biggest complaint about this place continues to be the high cost for what is good, but not incredible, Chinese food. read more

Meh. The 1st time I walked in here the lady working was rude so I ended up leaving. Decided to give it a try because honestly I was craving an egg roll and driving by...the lady again, not friendly but the man working was. I got orange chicken. In the menu it is shown with broccoli....apparently that was just for the picture. It was just ok. The egg roll was also just ok. Wish I had waited until I got to the place closer to home. The fried rice and crab rangoon were pretty standard, the lo mein and chicken had great flavor and texture. The owner was very sweet and welcoming and was happy to give us extra sauce for free. So I was excited to try Beijing kitchen for the first time soon as I entered the building, lack of customer service Lady working the register, which I think is the manager or one of the managers or owners very bad customer service, but I was excited to try it for the first time so I goes to place my order she was rude had very talent facial expressions like I Was aggravating or annoying her so I still decided to keep ordering my food, my food came up to $41 and some change. Remember, I was there around lunchtime for the lunchtime specials so not only was she rude She double charged me and then give me the incorrect pricing, for the lunchtime specials so disappointing I'm thinking if she did me like that without the correct pricing, how many other people coming in around lunch and dinner time not receiving the lunchtime special prices so the food wasn't bad at all just lack of customer service not a very friendly place to be a Chinese restaurant and not receiving the right pricing that I was supposed to receive I'm still a little bit upset because like I said I paid $41 and some change when I should of been paying between 22 to $25 dollars remind you the lunchtime specials is $10.50 cent I ordered General TSO's chicken with fried rice and also sesame chicken with fried rice I feel like they should still give me half my money back but the way they customer service is set up no way good luck if you still decide to visit here, here is the lunchtime menu that I was supposed to receive attached below. read more

I got takeout from Beijing Kitchen for the first time last night and I was very impressed. I ordered from the dinner special menu, which features an assortment of the classic Chinese (or Americanized Chinese) dishes such as orange chicken, sesame chicken, General Tso chicken, Mongolian beef, etc. Each order comes with rice (white or fried, no up charge for fried) and a choice of side (egg roll, crab rangoon or soup). I got General Tso chicken and Mongolian beef. The portions were generous and I had plenty of leftovers for the next day. I also ordered a pint of egg drop soup because I love it. My order only took 20 minutes at peak dinner time, which was really nice. State Street has lots of street parking so it's conveniently located. I had never been inside Beijing Kitchen but it's definitely in need of an update. I didn't really notice anything about the place other than the outdated signs and food photos, because I was focused on getting my piping hot bag of food back home! Everything was super hot and fresh. The General Tso chicken wasn't anything too special, just the normal stuff you find anywhere. But the Mongolian beef was amazing. The beef was tender without any weird gristle bits and the portion was huge. Then the crab rangoon... let me just say, these are without a doubt the best crab rangoon I have ever had. They were light and crispy (even when at room temperature), not thick and chewy like so many others. The filling was perfect too, not overly onion-y and with lots of imitation crab. They were perfect! The soup was just right too. The only thing I didn't really care for was the egg roll; it had some unusual clove/cinnamon type spice going on that I didn't like. I go here twice or three times a month to get my Chinese food fix. There is nothing to really rave about or travel far distances to eat at Beijing Kitchen. What it is worth going for is some cheap, delicious, and oh-so-good Americanized version of Chinese food. The decor of the place is of a very typical carry-out Chinese restaurant. When you walk in, there typically one person behind the cash register and one in the kitchen. After paying for your food, sometimes the cashier person goes to the kitchen to make your food. The lunch specials range from $5.25-$6.50 and come with an egg roll and your choice of white or fried rice. They have all your favorite dishes that you gobbled up on those late college nights. To name just a few of their menu items, they have General Tso Chicken, Orange Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Hunan Beef, etc. In conclusion, if you are in the neighborhood and are craving for some Chinese then you can't go wrong with Beijing Kitchen. It is meant as a cheap quick take-out place and you should not take your date or your parents here. One thing they do need to improve on is closing at random times on random days and not really following their own hours on the door. I have been disappointed three times by now when I merrily skipped to this place to fill my breakfast-lunch-dinner cravings only to find out that the place was closed at 4 freakin' PM in the afternoon on a Saturday. read more

My boyfriend and I love Beijing Kitchen! Anytime we are in town we make a special stop, it's absolutely delicious. They have a pretty big menu, something for everyone. My guy usually gets the Chow Fun with chicken or pork, he says the roast pork is awesome too. I get sesame tofu, it's easily my favorite tofu dish to date. You can substitute tofu for a lot of the dishes so it's very vegetarian/vegan friendly. They do pick up and delivery, you can also dine in. The service is always friendly and fast, we've never had a less than stellar experience. 10/10 stars, would highly recommend. read more

Ordered take-out and had my boyfriend go pick it up on Sunday 3/22. They have a couple different ways to order - all of the entrees can come in large or small and come with fried or white rice. Or, if you get one of the "dinner specials" (on the last page of the menu) you get to pick a side (soup/crab ragoon/egg roll) PLUS either fried or white rice. I'm assuming the portions are a bit smaller in this version, but it was definitely a lot of food! We ordered the Sweet and Sour chicken dinner special and Mongolian beef dinner special. My sweet and sour chicken was SO. FRESH. It looked like they breaded the chicken themselves, like, earlier that day. I could taste the freshness in the veggies as well (classic onion and green pepper) and *Note* the sauce was not on the side, so everything was coated in it. My side was the Hot and Sour soup, thanks to the yelp reviews, and it did not disappoint. My boyfriend loved his Mongolian beef, the beef was cooked all the way though and he loved the sauce. It came with onion, mushrooms, etc. His side was an egg roll - nice and crunchy and flavorful - moist on the inside without being soggy. Decent size for an egg roll too! Both of the entrees were large enough for leftovers AKA lunch tomorrow :) The craziest thing about this place was that when he got up to the cashier, they told him "it's free" and the kitchen guys in the back waved. Not that he had already paid (we hadn't) or that someone else paid for us... The chicken fried rice isn't the best ever but it's good enough to get on a consistent basis. Their chicken wings are big and well seasoned. Never judge a book by its cover. This place just looked like a normal crappy chinese restaurant, but we heard good things and decided to try it. The food here is excellent, and their orange chicken and sesame chicken is the best I've ever had!! Their portions are enormous, and they have great prices. Their lunch and dinner specials are great deals, with a very nice size portion, served with fried rice and choice of egg roll or crab rangoon. Their egg rolls are excellent as well. The wrapper wasn't chewy like most, and it was cooked perfectly! If you are downtown, this is a go-to place for Chinese food in Grand Rapids! Came back again to get the same dish & something new. I tried the spring roll and the pork roll, both were excellent. I also asked if he could make me a dish nobody makes unless in Chinatown somewhere far away. He gave me a funny look, like, you eat "salted fish"?
