After a long walk, my husband and I were craving Chinese food and got lucky finding this restaurant nearby. Despite the many cars outside, we were pleasantly surprised to find it wasn't busy. The spacious interior allowed us to grab a cozy booth. Our attentive waitress promptly served us tea and water while we browsed the menu. We ordered the shrimp appetizer, Mongolian beef, combination fried rice, and sweet and sour pork. The food was delicious, although the appetizer was a bit too oily. Paying cash granted us a 5% discount (except Sundays). Our first experience was fantastic! The clean bathroom and swift service impressed us. The staff was polite, and the ambiance was lovely. But I'm so disappointed, my family and I got take out to bring to a park so we didn't notice until we got here. This order was a total of $60, plus the tip that I left. The crab rangoons tasted like straight cream cheese. The chicken and broccoli seemed very unappetizing, no one touched it. I hate to even write this because First Wok has been out go-to Chinese in town since I was little. Our last few dinners here have been a big disappointment and the prices seem to keep climbing. Everything has lacked flavor and has been overly greasy. We received dishes were nothing but grease and oil pours out of the container rather than any sauce. Everything is bland and some things seemed cold. We have asked around and other people seem to have had the same experience. I'm not sure what they changed but it's becoming a well known issue. It's sad to drive by on a Friday night and see the parking lot half empty while the restaurants around them are packed. The menu does not explicitly say the Family Style Bean Curd or Sautéed Broccoli meals are vegan, which is unfortunate. The flavor is great though and there are no VISIBLE animal products in them that I noticed. It would be nice if the menu labeled things as vegan or not vegan, because as a vegan of course I would be unhappy if they use chicken, beef, or seafood stock to make these. However, the person who took my order one time claimed they are vegan. Ambiance is what you'd expect for a Chinese restaurant - old school country club type vibes with a splash of Asian decor. Does give the appearance of a more upscale experience. Service was fine - nothing to comment on either way. Went for lunch; I had the Beef & Broccoli and it was pretty bad. The beef was so over cooked that it was basically leather while the broccoli was barely steamed and nearly raw. Rice was good but when isn't steamed rice good? The sauce on the dish was also good but there could have been more - a little skimpy in that area. Overpriced for the quality, especially for a lunch sized portion. Won't be back; would rather drive over to Little Bangkok for Thai and a much better overall experience there. read more

I've tried carry out from here a few times, so I can't speak to the dining in experience or the wait service. The service at the counter to pick up your food is a mixed review. There is one woman who is quite nice, but the others ignore you and it's hard to know when your food is ready for pick up. The food itself is mediocre at best. First let me say that I've eaten at this restaurant a lot, and they rarely disappoint, but the last time we had dinner here it was a pretty big disappointment. I usually eat lunch here, namely because of cost. For around ten bucks you can get a lunch that includes a cup of soup, eggroll, crab rangoon, fried rice, and an entrée......I usually get Moo Goo Gai Pan. That's a lot of food for the price. Dinner prices are about 1 1/2 times the cost of lunch and you only get your entrée and white rice. No fried rice, no soup, and no rangoon, unless you want to pay extra. I'm not paying extra for all those add ons. On this particular visit I got the Mu Shu Pork, something I always get. This time it did not taste like it always has in the past. I think perhaps it wasn't cooked long enough........the veggies were pretty crunchy. It was great when I ate the leftovers the next day and I had a chance to cook it longer. My mom got Kung Poa chicken and she felt that it didn't have much flavor. She didn't think her soup had much flavor either and had to add salt....something she never does. She says her eggroll was great though. Lesson learned, we will stick with lunch in the future. read more

Was in the mood for Chinese and found this gem. Called in for take out and spoke with a gentleman who was very friendly. I ordered the combination fried rice and added pork, I also added crab rangoon to my order. My order was ready when I arrived approximately 15 minutes later. The lady behind the counter was very polite and complimented my muscles "which caught me off guard" but I appreciated it none the less. My food was hot and fresh when I got it back to my hotel room and I can honestly say that it was some of the best Chinese take out I've had in quite some time. Tons of meat and veggies , great portion size, and in addition to the fortune cookie you also receive a sugar cookie. I enjoyed this place and will certainly revisit when I'm back in Grand Rapid. My kids and I ordered take out for my son's birthday. We ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken, House Lo Mein, Shrimp with Cashews, Chicken Fried Rice, Egg Rolls and Crab Cheese Rangoons. I may have ordered too much food for 6 people, but I have never ordered take-out before. There was SO much food!!! When I went to pick up the order, everything was correct, and they even threw in an extra order of the Crab Cheese Rangoons on the house due to the large order. They were super strict on the COVID regulations, which I completely appreciate. Got the food home and dug in like crazy people who haven't eaten in months! LOL! Everything was hot, fresh and so delicious! We even got Sugar Cookies and Fortune Cookies with our order. This place was so accommodating and spot on!
