I reviewed the Belfry years ago while we were visiting Cape Cod. It was not a good dinner and resulted in a poor review. Since that time we have moved on Cape. We recently decided to revisit The Belfry. I am so glad we did. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Although the ambiance remained the same, beautiful of course, the entire meal was so much better than last time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Marina, our waitress, was terrific. She was professional, but friendly, and had great recommendations. The cocktails were terrific, as they were before, but the appetizers and entrees were superb. The peach and prosciutto appetizer was a tasty surprise and the filet of sole was spot on, crispy on the edges but moist, not dry in the middle. The frozen wasabi added to the oysters. We will be back. If I could give more than five stars I would. read more

Difficult communication with the staff/owner. Thought I was in order. Upscale restaurant where we spent well over $500. Never served bread until I asked several times. Owner, expediter never came to the table to inquire.. one of my guests said that the lobster risotto was in edible and crunchy. Very expensive meals and small portions. Each person was to get their own check, including, unbelievably, a four dollar plating fee for a cake that I brought. Waitress gave every one their checks. I gave her my credit card and she put it through. Then came up to me to tell me she had forgotten to put the four dollar fee on everyone's plate so she dumped $32 on mine. In an upscale restaurant, this would not have happened.. I wrote to the owner after my meal, telling him my thoughts, and he never bothered to get back. Unacceptable so that is the reason why I was forced to write this review. Find another place read more

We came into this restaurant $$$$ expecting great food, great service and a great experience and here is what we got. Once we got in, waited 5 minutes for a waiter, then 30 minutes for appetizers. Waited another half hour to 45 minutes after the appetizer to get the food that was just mediocre. Took 2 hours to finish This place is very overrated. read more

The Most Disappointing Restaurant Experiences We've Ever Had We rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience was so disappointing that we feel obligated to share it. Our party of seven arrived about five minutes before our reservation, including an elderly family member in a wheelchair. Despite the summer heat, we were asked to wait outside for approximately 40 minutes. At no time was she offered the opportunity to wait inside in the air conditioning. Once seated, it took several minutes before our server greeted us. Our appetizers arrived about 30 minutes later--except for one beet salad that never came. After everyone else had finished their appetizers, our server returned, and when we mentioned the missing salad, her response was simply, "I'll take it off the bill." Another 30 minutes passed, and still no entrees. By this point, our elderly family member had become exhausted and was falling asleep. I asked to speak with the manager and was told there wasn't one available. Frankly, we found it difficult to believe that a busy restaurant on a Friday evening had no manager present to address customer concerns. Instead, the bartender came over, listened to what had happened, and said it was the first he had heard about the situation. He assured us he would look into it. A few minutes later, another employee handed me a phone and said the manager was on the line. Before I could fully explain what had happened, he interrupted me and said, "I don't care. Get out of my restaurant." He then accused us of making our server cry and again told us to leave. To be clear, our frustration was never directed at our server. She was pleasant throughout the evening and, like all servers, could only work within the circumstances she was given. This was clearly a management and operational issue. All of us lost our appetite upon hearing we were asked to leave and did so. This review isn't about whether the food was good or bad. Delays can happen in any restaurant. What should never happen is a complete lack of communication, no manager available to address a serious service issue on a busy Friday night, and a manager whose response to legitimate concerns was, "I don't care. Get out of my restaurant." We've dined at restaurants around the country for many years and have never experienced anything remotely like this. Unfortunately, based on the way this situation was handled, we cannot recommend this restaurant. UPDATE TO THE OWNER'S REPLY: First of all, I posted for my husband who was too upset after what happened. We are not hiding. His name is Ron. YOU HAVE THE FACTS ALL WRONG. We arrived 5 minutes early, not a half hour early. We were not seated until at least a half hour past our reservation time and had to sit outside. The server told us when she came to get us to finally seat us that the people bought our first round of drinks. She never mentioned the wine, she said drinks so we assume it was the 3 cocktails we ordered while we were waiting (3 people in our party of 7 ordered a drink). WE ASKED IF WE COULD THANK THEM but she told us they already left. When we were finally seated, the only thing Ron asked the server was that they bring all the starters at the same time because our dining time was already getting late due to the wait. AGAIN, we had an elderly person with us in a wheel chair and everything was taking awhile. It took 30 minutes to get our starters, NO BEET SALAD, which was ordered at the same time. After our starters (which were not cleared until the entrees were brought), when our entrees didn't come out about a half hour later, Ron searched for a manager because our family member was fading. He told the bartender (acting manager) that we were waiting a whlle for entrees, that it wasn't right, and to find out for us what was going on since we hadn't seen our server. No scene was made, no voices were raised. Then a few minutes later you call and tell us to leave. THIS IS EXACTLY what happened. We had no interaction with your server to make her cry. If she is overworked, thin skinned, or if this was not presented to her properly by the manager, that is not our fault. As we were all getting ready to leave (stunned), the server brought out the food. We told her we were asked to leave and she said, eat it, it is here. We were all so upset we took a few bites but had no appetite. By the way, the food was not even good. Spatchcock was dry and tiny. Took two bites. We left the server a generous tip ($160) so please, you can say whatever you want, YOU ARE INCORRECT. Your handling of the situation was SHOCKING and extremely unprofessional. You can think and say what you want, we know the truth. If you can't even ask for assistance from a manager or owner in a restaurant when things aren't going well, something is wrong with the place/operation-----NOT THE CUSTOMER. read more

Met my brother and his wife here for dinner. This is an old church that was converted into an inn and bistro. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very nice inside as you get to see all of the stained glass. And the bar and liquor was where the confessionals were.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu was not overwhelming but had some good choices. I ordered the scollops and lobster risotto and my wife ordered the short ribs. The risotto was delicious and the scallops were tasty. The short ribs were very tender. I must say that the prices were a bit high for my liking so be prepared to spend some money. But, as you stuff your gullet you'll forget the stations of the cross. Sit and dine on fine offerings, seafoods and meats. We were visiting for a few days and kept seeing this restaurant we took a chance and walked in and while there weren't any tables available we were invited to sit at the bar. This is a really nice looking space. We loved the quiet atmosphere and comfortable seats. Started with a crab and avocado appetizer. It turned to to be a good combination of flavors, but there was too much avocado compared to the crab and the taste of the crab was lost in the overwhelming mass of avocado. My wife ordered escargot with mushrooms. It was good, but I prefer the traditional garlic butter. Service was friendly and good, but not up to the level I expect for the price of the food. My main dish was Duck. Good, but not exceptional. My wife had Rosemary Rack of Lamb with tomato marmalade. The lamb was under seasoned and unremarkable, but she loved the tomato marmalade. For dessert, I had the Key Lime Tart with Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. I enjoyed the tart, but it was not quite up to Florida Keys standards. The Ice Cream was not at all creamy. It was more like half way between an ice cream and a Sorbet. read more

This is a church turned restaurant that came highly reminded for great food. The food is great. Fresh and flavorful. We had the arugula salad. It was a very generous portion with fresh arugula and ingredients. The dressing was just enough. I had the crab cake and shrimp. It was simply the best crab cake I'd ever had. So different. As if it didn't have a binding and tarted so fresh. There were many shrimp- more than I expected- big, flavorful and in a delicious sauce with a kick. We shared the key lime pie for dessert. It was a smaller portion but so good won't plenty of fresh cream and yummy once cream. What soured our night was before we were seated our experience at the bar. An exceptional experience to celebrate a milestone birthday at this beautiful converted abbey on Scenic 6A. From arrival the host and waiter handled our large party with a warm professional touch. Excellent martinis and craft cocktails arrived quickly as did a decent basket of warm rolls. The appetizers and salads were highlights and enormous: tuna tartare, charred octopus, blueberry mango salad and crab cakes were outstanding. We cut a pretty wide swath thru the menu that included lamb wellington, local scallops, duck roasted and confit style, short ribs, and filet with shrimp surf and turf. Sides of potato galette and asparagus were served with several dishes. A couple of thing were under seasoned but nothing major. Desserts of key lime pie and chocolate almond crunch tartlet and protiferole were delicious but unnecessary after very generous portions. Had the most amazing dinner with my family last night! The food was incredible. First, the tomato, mozzarella and prosciutto was to die for and the pork belly app I could have had as my entree. The lamb chops, scallops, short ribs and swordfish special were all insane. We shared 3 desserts - the key lime tart which might be my favorite dessert ever, and then the flourless chocolate cake and espresso tiramisu were scrumptious. Could not recommend this place enough. The food and environment were amazing but couldn't leave a review without mentioning the incredible service. Rob was the best server we've had in a long time. He was so friendly, funny, knowledgeable about the menu and history and just super helpful. Such a great experience all around!! read more

Romantic, beautiful and Incredible food. We just happened to catch this restaurant out of the corner of our eye. Considering it was once a beautiful church you'd never expect them to be serving 5 star meals. We chose to eat outside on a rustic paver patio under the string lights. Table set with real linens and a waitstaff that was attentive and knowledgeable. I ordered the duck confit and my date ordered the short ribs. Not only was the presentation beautiful, the food was amazing and almost too much for one person to finish. The duck was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. The only suggestion I could make is to fry the frites in duck fat... crispier and better tasting. My date drooled over his short ribs on a bed of garlic potato's. Delish, delish. Came back after a couple months and the place has not lost its charm. I ordered something familiar since I was in the mood for a delicious meal. I had the apple and spinach salad, baked oysters and the day boat scallops with lobster risotto and asparagus. The food came out in a reasonable time and my server Corinn, was exceptional. Most important to me is that my diet coke remain filled which she did without my asking. She was very attentive, coming by every once in a while to ask how everything was. (Everything was perfect). I never give a rating of 10 to anyplace but this night the Belfry got a 10. I thoroughly enjoyed my salad and the baked oysters were scrumptious. Then my entree came out. The presentation was gorgeous. The long stems of asparagus were sitting atop the lobster risotto, surrounded by the perfectly seared scallops. I usually cut the tops off my asparagus wherever I go since I don't really like chewing on stems but what a pleasant and unexpected surprise that the stems of this asparagus were tender and and flavorful. I savored every bite of my dinner and my palate was satisfied with the wealth of flavors presented by our chef. Again, thanks to Corinn for making us feel welcome and pampered. Great work. We went to dinner recently at Belfry Bistro. We were staying in Sandwich and went for an evening stroll to see the Christmas lights and we found this beautiful old church that had been turned into a restaurant/inn. It was so beautiful I started researching about it that night and knew I had to experience it while we were visiting. The next day we were able to get a reservation. I was so excited, I couldn't wait to sit in that beautiful old church and just experience the atmosphere! We arrived at our reservation time and were brought to our table.....waaaaay in a corner facing the waitstaffs quarters. We were under the Inn half of the church/restaurant so there wasn't any high ceilings or expansive views as I envisioned. I was literally looking at all the pitchers of water, stacks of tablecloths and seeing waitstaff going back and forth to this busy little room. We were privy to all their personal conversations especially one young water boy who loved to talk about himself. I did hear our waitress speak to them about moving somewhere else to talk. We ordered lobster chowders, spiced roasted chicken and carved ham, along with a beer. The lobster chowder was about the best we ever had. The other food was okay, nothing to write home about. Our bill came to $100. We were expecting this dinner to be more about the experience than about the food. In this case it wasn't a wonderful experience as I had hoped. I truly wanted to love this place. The evening started with a delightful take on an old fashioned with muddled Luxardo cherries and a charming bartender. The building has a stunning ceiling with wooden adornments and exposed beams. I thought this is going to be a wonderful place to celebrate my friend's birthday. The octopus starter was drowning in a gremolata that was posing as a chimichurri. When you think of a gremolata you expect fresh herbs, lemon zest and garlic. We received off color herbs and garlic in a vinaigrette. The entrees had one shining light, the duck was cooked perfectly, crispy skin, nice pinkness and a divine blueberry reduction (listed on the menu as blood orange). Unfortunately after that we slowly faded to dark. My friend's swordfish was overcooked. My other friend's scallops were like rubber. The "risotto" was piled up in an immovable mound. A true risotto should have movement. The final blow came when our dark chocolate raspberry napoleon arrived with a halved moldy strawberry. Someone in the kitchen needs to learn to edit their garnishing. The plate did not need the garnish but if you are going to go that extra step please make sure the product is fresh. I will note that the kitchen recognized their error when we called it to their attention and they did not charge us for the scallops. What's truly disappointing is that the entree was released from the kitchen at all. If it were not for our lovely server, a tasty bottle of wine and the company of good friends the evening would have been a total loss. read more

We ate here last week, and it was fantastic. We did not plan to go here, we had planned to go to a more modest eatery, but that was closed. Expensive restaurants on the Cape can often be a crap shoot, you pay for premium quality and service and get something far less. No such worries here. Creative menu with top notch food quality, and the service was impeccable. Our waitress was great, she was attentive without being overbearing. I got the beef cheek fettucine. Holy crap! My wife got the salmon, and the other couple each got the lamb. Apps were great too. The beer selection is a little narrow, (I would like see a saison or hefewiessen on the menu) but what beers they offer are really good. And that is the one (sorta) fault, and I had to dig deep to find it. Nice decor and atmosphere, without being stuffy. (We were kind of dressed down for the place, but we got zero attitude). read more

My spouse had filet and shared it. Again delicious. The scallops were perfectly done not over cooked and served with risotto. Ended with strong cappuccino and citrus tart. Very well done! My fiancé and I stayed at the Belfry, this past Thursday night. We also dined at the Seal restaurant owned by them and also the Belfry café. We were greeted by a warm, gracious and very thoughtful host, who brought us to our room. Bright, airy and charming, the room exceeded our expectations. The complimentary shampoo and soaps smelled so nice, I asked where I could buy them. The bed was very comfortable. Cleanliness was obviously a priority for the owners, and the bedding was luxurious and comfy. Fresh locally sourced coffee was offered for breakfast, and we had homemade banana bread, cinnamon buns, croissants and breads and fresh local fruit. A definite upgrade from the usual fare! The cafe was very romantic and charming. We enjoyed a lovingly prepared meal (Swordfish from local waters, scallops and lobster risotto).Plated as expertly as the dishes we had sampled in the Loire Valley of France. Key lime pie, made fresh, was well worth the carb overload! Just perfect. The stained glass windows ( a former church) surrounded us and cast a lovely ambience. The Seal cafe also exceeded our expectations with a multilayered smoked seafood Napoleon with smoky sauce lightly complimenting it. I truly would drive up from CT (3 hr) just to visit again. I wanted something vegetarian and asked the chef to surprise me ... I was so happy with what came out! The chef created an amazing pistachio encrusted plant protein dish loaded with pan seared vegetables and drizzled with delicious sauces. Might've been the best meal I've ever had at any restaurant. I asked our waiter the name of it so I could looks order it again, he suggested I ask for their "vegan dish." My friends were happy with their (non-vegetarian) meals too. Too good! One of my favorite restaurants, ever. Everything on the menu is delicious. The difficult part is selecting your meal from the menu. The scallops, delicious. The short ribs, yumm. The steak au poivre, filet, lamb chops, all excellent. The salads, drinks and atmosphere brings it all together. But if you have nothing but one thing, it is the lobster gnocchi! I've never been a fan of the Belfry because I find the atmosphere and food to be very dull. It's a popular spot among older people from my experience coming here. They usually have special meals during holidays and this is the majority of my experiences here. The service has always been great and they have a nice drink menu but the food is bland. It's usually always the same thing every year and the veggies always seem to be beans and carrots. Needless to say, if it weren't for my parents liking this place I'd never come. The Thanksgiving dinner consisted of a nice Butternut Squash Bisque and the Salmon was a large portion and the potatoes were good. The beans and carrots are always boring. If you're looking for a basic meal this place will suffice. The atmosphere and food have just never done it for me. read more

Surprised by his impatience and rudeness as he pushed us aside to seat two new parties. He didn't offer us a place to wait or help with our pickup but brushed us aside with annoyance.
