Bill Hearst castle was one of the worst vacation mistakes I can actually think that I've ever made. They gave us a room that was on top of their ball room. What that meant for us was starting at about 7 o'clock every night they had a wedding reception or some kind of party and we could hear everything going on downstairs to include the DJ and the ever escalating level of the music. We call the front desk and I would say there is supposed to be over at 9:30 and then we will call again 11 PM and they would say it supposed of already been over and the situation never went away until the party was over. We had a reservation for a longer period of time and we had to cut it short because we simply are not people who stay up past midnight and did not want to be on top of a party. The rooms were sub par for a one star hotel not to mention some magical Belhurst Castle. The room was large and it had two chairs that didn't seem to match any of the Decour or were comfortable. The details of the room were awful as if it were falling apart. Light switches were arrested and dirty and And the lamp shades were damaged and dirty and the entire experience was just awful. The only thing that went well was when we need to check out early because we simply were not getting sleep was the manager on duty was very accommodating. read more

This place is CRYING to be updated! Ugh, the potential is so, so, high, but the reality is so off the mark! Who DOESN'T love a castle? I mean, really? This place makes you feel like Cinderella...but not the version in the gorgeous gown with a hunky prince squiring her around. Belhurst is the grubby Cinderella, waiting for her prince to arrive. The actual castle interior is gorgeous. The wood detailing, the stone, the fireplace with the knight...YES! But everything needs a dusting, a polishing, worn carpets replaced, etc. It's so lackluster and depressing. I've never slept (term used loosely because it was the worst night of tossing and turning...was I being tested like The Princess and the Pea?) so bad in a hotel bed. It felt like a relic from the 1880's, hard/uncomfortable mattress, it was tiny (why are all the beds tiny full/queen ones? I'm in a castle-KING ME!), whatever the mattress is made of is so loud. I could barely take a deep breath without hearing noises from the rickety bed frame, or the mattress. I wonder if the owners have tried sleeping in one of the castle chamber beds? They should, to understand what guests are experiencing. Unfortunately, it's not the restful sleep of Sleeping Beauty. Everything in the room is outdated from the fixtures, to the wallpaper/blinds and decor. It's all mixed-matched furniture from the '80's adding zero atmosphere to the room. Fairy Godmother, where are you with that magic wand? The coffee maker has a basket next to it with cream/sugar in a package. I guarantee those packages haven't been changed out or replaced. When I picked one up, the cream was spoiled and smelled so awful. The modern day poison apple? Perhaps, but I wasn't daring enough to find out! Things are dusty in the room, the knick-knacks, the glasses just sitting around, pretty much everything. I just don't know what is being cleaned at all. If the maids spent as much time actually deep cleaning, as they do on twisting all the guest towels into weird configurations and knots, that room would be GLEAMING...like a magic mirror! Pros: Front desk staff helpful and accommodating, staff at Stonecutter's and Edgar's attentive, spa staff was friendly and inviting, the masseuses we had were great, the grounds are gorgeous and well kept. I love castles, I stay in one whenever I can find one while on vacation. I wanted to love it here and wanted to come back and sadly, I have no desire to come back to this hotel. read more

The carpets were smelly and dingy, the front desk staff in the spa was on her phone the entire time I was talking to her, and basically a "gotcha" gross place. Ok fellow Yelpers. You might want to vote with your hard earned cheese by going somewhere else when you travel to the Finger Lakes area. Its's sad: this place has SO much potential but just does not live up to what it costs to stay there when headed to wine country in upstate NY. From the outside the looks are reminiscent of 1700's castle over looking Seneca lake. But within a few feet of stepping into facility this potential rural garden of eden became more like the wilted and decayed boroughs of Cain and Able. I really wanted and expected this place to be cool--especially for its steep price of admission. Alas, it never delivered and left me wanting to retreat home as soon as the sun rose. From the sticky vinyl chairs in the "up scale" restaurant to the 1950's musty carpet reminents that provide wall-to-wall dirty passage ways. This place had not been cleaned in a very very very long time. Room wise, the only redeeming factor was room size. Besides that, they were infested with mosquitos from cracks in the window air-conditioning units. Plug-in's for your modern day devices: no sir. The outlets could not even hold a plug to charge a phone due to their age (seriously dated around 1950's). This place has such great potential to be a mecca for those wanting to travel in the NY wine country....but leaves one feeling so cheated because it doesn't deliver even close to what is expected by today's modern travelers. My parents stayed here a few months ago. I've been trying to get them to stay at something local, instead of the Hilton (or the like) all the way over in Rochester. They finally gave this place a try. So they'll be back in Rochester again next time, that's for sure. So the Belhurst grounds are beautiful. I've often dropped by for a drink on a nice day, and I hoped they would find the accommodations suitable by their admittedly pampered standards. Not a chance. There room was on the third floor. The Belhurst has no elevator. Okay, it's an old building and they're not infirm. Not a dealbreaker. But you HAVE to have able people to carry the bags to the room. Are you kidding me? The 85 pound girl at the check-in desk helped when asked, but my step-father still had to carry the heaviest bag up those three flights. They had a large room, not that anything useful was done with the space. Clearly in converting the building to a hotel room, they never came up with very good solutions to architectural quirks. The bathroom was too close to the roof (like it was a converted attic), so it had these sloping walls they shrank the room considerably. Couldn't fit a toilet against it, so the toilet and the bathtub are in the center of the room. Awkward. There was a large mirror next to the bathroom, but installed so poorly into the wall that it shook when touched, and you could see into the wall around the edges. It was almost creepy, like there was a pervy room behind a two-way mirror. The TV wasn't big enough for how far it was from the bed, and there was no other furniture inbetween. There was another tv five feet further away in this awkward alcove sitting room? The furniture seemed old,but not antique/old/classic/nice. Like "Grandma' house weird" old. The alarm clock next to the bed had an Iphone dock (generation 1, of course), but it was broken anyway. Next to the awkward alcove sitting room was a very tight spiral staircase to a little widow's walk type space (indoors only). But the entire thing has no lights, so its more a widowmaker if you try to navigate the stairs most of the day. At the prices they like to charge at the Belhurst, my parents very well underwhelmed. THEN their first night there the roof springs a leak right into their room. So that didn't go over well. All in all, my parents had a terrible stay and vowed never to return. I don't blame them. Maybe they're less terrible if they don't have the laughable series of disasters as my parents' stay, but overall they don't seem to deliver on what they seem to promise. They have a first rate view and a second rate (at best) everything else. read more

The outside of Belhurst is so beautiful, but the inside is quite the opposite. We were disappointed with the wine and the food as well. The grand ballroom looks like something straight out of 1984 with the mint green and valences, similar to the wine vests the staff in the tasting room have to wear. It's 2014. There was also a gentleman watering the flowers on a Saturday afternoon before the wedding and he was smoking. There were several guests outside, and it just rubbed me the wrong way. Unfortunately I stop at the Belhurst once a year when I am the designated driver taking a father and son on their annual wine tasting in the Finger Lakes. Due to recently diagnosed stomach issues I am unable to drink wine or have a full meal. The view is pretty, but the store is full of things that one really doesn't need. The kind of things that end up in someone's yard sale. In the past I ate with friends at one of their restaurants and we were really unimpressed. My children live out of town and remembered (unfortunately) there was this place on the Finger Lakes and bought me a large gift certificate. I knew at once that they had wasted their money. I called the Belhurst moments after receiving the certificate and, even though it was a special birthday and I could not use the certificate, they refused to refund my children's money. I even drove immediately down there canceling my evening plans to speak to the assistant manager in person. The next day, I spoke to the manager and told him that my birthday was ruined. In fact, I spent money refunding my certificate to my children! The Belhurst attitude is one of "I really don't care, lady". They came across as officious people who really don't listen or care about the people who visit them. read more

After several attempts we finally booked a Thursday night at the hotel (Vinifera) with dinner reservations at Edgar's. First impressions were good. Beautiful grounds and spectacular views. Check-in was prompt and we made it to our room. The room was clean but outdated. For the price I expected better. (Stayed at Holiday Inn in Buffalo for 1/2 the price with a nicer room and better amenities). Off to Stonecutters for an appetizer and wine. Good service and food. Next was wine tasting... Bottom line, disinterested employees make for a bad experience. As a customer I don't care if your tired or cranky. In a place like this I expect an experience... A flawless experience. After a brief trip on the wine trail, we had dinner at Edgar's. Arrived for our reservation and found the hostess station abandon. After about 10 minutes we were noticed and seated. We were accommodated with a window seat after we were informed they were "deader than dead". Really? Why the wait then? Dinner was good and service was good. Problem is that we expected great. Especially with a "great" price tag. I should be transported during a fine dining experience and unfortunately stayed right in my seat. When bedtime arrived we found the room temperature inconsistent and the bed uncomfortable. Checkout was 11 and we were gone by 9. What does that tell you. Overall - Way overpriced for the experience. Didn't meet expectations. Might go back for lunch at Stonecutters and a view of the lake, but that's it. read more

I was a little bit skeptical after reading many poor reviews, however my girlfriend and I decided to eat here for New Year's Eve dinner. Upon our arrival we had to wait with another couple who arrived ahead of us approximately 10 minutes for a hostess to appear to seat us for our reservations. Granted it was a busy night for them but, perhaps they should have scheduled two hostesses for that night. Once we were seated it was a very short time before our waitress appeared introducing herself and presenting their extensive wine list. Our table was located within an arms reach of a temporary clearing station. At one point some wait staff dropped a bunch of dishes onto the floor along with silverware. Nothing appeared to break but it was a little disturbing that they just left it on the floor for probably five minutes before somebody returned to clean it all up. My girlfriend ordered the chicken dinner served on a bed of mashed sweet potatoes. She said her food was heavenly, I did try a bite of the sweet potatoes and I'd have to agree. I ordered the baked haddock served on a bed of quinoa, The haddock was cooked perfectly and very flavorful, however the quinoa was extremely gritty and sandy. We ordered dessert as well as after dinner coffee, our waitress was very tentative to us and we never felt rushed. Our dinner experience lasted two hours. With two entrées averaging $40 each and a bottle of LaCrema Chardonnay at an affordable $36. Dinner for two including wine desserts and coffee with tip was roughly $190. I would typically give this dining experience three stars however today I'm giving them four because I think they have potential. We will return and give them another try this summer. read more

As a native of the Finger Lakes area I like to take out of town friends to Belhurst Castle for a meal. After last Sunday's breakfast I will not be doing that any longer. The Eggs Benedict was so poorly done I was embarrassed to have brought my friend there. The poached egg was closing in on hard boiled and the English muffin was obviously the cheap off brand Walmart sells in their refrigerated section. It was not even toasted enough. Even the couple at the table next to me mentioned the poor quality of theirs. I mentioned it to our server later and he said he has had many complaints like mine and they all fall on the deaf ears of the current chef. As far as I am concerned, the quality of a restaurant's breakfast speaks volumes about what I can expect from their other meals. I brought a tour group of 40 here for 6 years in a row when they had a breakfast buffet and it was wonderful. Since they went to individual table service at breakfast I stopped bringing my group. I'm glad I stopped so they never got to experience the poor quality food. read more

Oh dear. I do wish I would have read the other reviews before booking a suite here and making reservations for brunch. We decided to stay at Belhurst because the look of the place is just bad ass. It's a big old castle on Seneca Lake. It's a really cool building and the grounds are gorgeous. The are guest rooms located in the original castle, as well as in a 1980s-style addition called the Vinafera Inn. We booked late in the season, so we stayed in the Vinafera, which we were both totally fine with. Here's the good: Our room was really spacious and had a huge hot tub, shower, and working fireplace. Our nights were cozy and we could barely hear any other guests, even though the place was full. The decor was definitely from the mid-1980s, but the room was clean and I didn't mind all the mismatched furniture. Also, the bar overlooking the lake (Stonecutters) is so chill. The bartenders are friendly, the view of the lake is stunning, and (most importantly) there's a large selection of wines and alcohol. We ordered the fondue, which was served with apples, pears, and an assortment of breads. It was yummy. (On a related note, the Belhurst spa is great for a relaxing massage to sooth a wine-induced hangover.) And the not so good: The service at the Belhurst is horrible. The individuals working at the reception desk looked at me like I was a martian when I requested an extra pack of coffee for the next morning. (I was anticipating a hangover, thank you very much.) The winery is alright, though not comparable to some of the other wineries in the area. Finally, I feel like I need to address Edgar's, the restaurant. It's located on the first floor of the castle and tries very hard to be grand, but desperately needs some upgrades. We had breakfast and I felt like we overpaid by about 50%, given the quality of the food. I had a veggie omelet that I couldn't even eat because it was served in a bowl of grease. Yuck. We stayed @ Belhurst on an impromptu vacation recently, and were very pleased. Our first night was in the White Springs Manor, which managed to be rustic and elegant at the same time. The room was spacious and clean, and the bathroom appeared to be freshly renovated. We also enjoyed the bedside jacuzzi and fireplace, which the staff had lit for us in advance of our late evening arrival. White Springs is a 3 minute or so drive off the Belhurst campus, but it was easy to find even in the dark. The house had a lot of character; it was also very quiet and secluded and the grounds were pretty but in need of some attention. The next two nights we were booked at the Vinifera Inn, which is attached to Belhurst Castle. Our room was very nice; clean and modern with a great view of the lake. We could hear the guests above us, but the noise wasn't enough to cause us much concern. Another fireplace and jacuzzi were nice touches. Bathroom was very well-appointed, and the two-person shower was really nice, though the shower heads were in need of attention. There is a rail line that runs along the lake, you can't see the train from the hotel (it is a sharp drop to the lakefront) but you can certainly feel and hear it. We ate a lunch and dinner @ Edgar's and had mixed feelings. Dinner was pricey and our waitress was not all that pleasant; perhaps our age (we are in our late 20's & early 30's) or the fact that we chose not to drink had something to do with it. The food was excellent though, in our opinion. Lunch was a buffet, and a really good value. Our waiter Doug was extremely friendly and helpful, and we left satisfied and ready for a day @ the wineries. Stonecutters was a real highlight. Beautiful sunken bar with a great view of the lake (too bad the sunset was behind us) and wonderful pub-style food. We were very happy with our experiences there. Overall we were extremely satisfied with our Belhurst experience. We took advantage of their special anniversary pricing, but will certainly consider returning even at full price. The staff in particular made us feel welcome and comfortable throughout our stay. For a last-minute vacation, we feel lucky to have chosen such a beautiful spot. read more

My husband and myself recently (February 2022) stayed at Belhurst Castle for one night. One night was plenty enough. While the grounds and buildings are beautiful there is some significant updating that needs to happen. First and foremost, the mattress was horrible. It practically bent in half when sitting on it, would squeak with every move, and was clearly well worn in. All we wanted was to be able to get a nice quiet night sleep and be able to sleep in but that was not happening due to second major issue which was the glass above the door let in the bright hallway light into the room and lit up the room all night long. Both my husband and myself had to cover our eyes all night long. The rest of the room was clean and the bathroom was large. I would recommend trying out the pub downstairs but maybe would not stay the night. read more

Well what can I say about Belhurst castle Sunday brunch buffet. It was located in Edgars restaurant. First the good; The food wasn't bad, the plus's were the home fries, waffles, sticky buns, and cooked fresh omlette fresh cooked steak. The unlimited mimosas were a definite treat! The chocolate strawberry's and whipped cream was also very nice! The location was very scenic located on the lake which provided a nice ambience. When I thought of a castle I had in my mind the 1600's type European castle but i should have known since america was colonized until 1700's and wouldn't have the same architecture. I would call it the belhurst mansion. Our waiter was nice and attentive. Would I return, only if i was bringing my parents they enjoy buffets. Me and wife wanted to try a new place and weren't completely dissapointed. Its also a resort for people who would like to getaway so if you like a room to extend the stay, do that, looks like a nice place to relax. The bad: for two people the buffet will run you 50.00 with tip. For this price I was expecting a buffet like Marios. At Marios they have themed buffetss for 25.00 per person. Instead I got a buffet more like Old Country Buffet but less variety lol. You needed reservations because the space was very limited and there was a line around 12:00pm that wrapped around the 1/4 of the restaurant? It was very dark so it wad hard to see the food in the buffet line but seating area was well lighted. Some of the food was not freshly cooked and the powdered eggs i could do without. I also wish becaus of the trip that took we could have toured the "castle" or I would say big mansion. Belhurst could have easliy been placed on east ave as a big mansion. The place is beautifully manicured, but no one here cares about your experience. We have stayed here twice (why? b/c we got more gift certificates after we got married here and wanted to use them, and to give the place another chance). The rooms are ok until you need to use them - hard beds, bugs all over the place, in one room we had a hall light right outside our transom window (the one over the door) that shone in our room all night making it quite bright in the room. The staff is generally unknowledgable about their own operations and fairly useless should you complain about something with the room. The new building (vinifera) where we stayed last night had walls so thin we could hear everything from the group next door until they fell asleep at 1am. there are plenty of well run B and B's in the area that deserve your business. Use Belhurst for pictures and a nice place for bite to eat. But don't waste your time and money staying at the lodgings. read more

F-rating with the Better Business Bureau. We found out why the hard way. The Belhurst Castle is a beautiful building in a scenic setting. Until you run into an issue and require any sort of customer service I'm sure your stay will be wonderful. Unfortunately, we spent a night at the Belhurst and woke up at 2am to a bat flying around our room. After a bit of panic, we got out of our room and spoke to the nightman at the front desk. He was mildly helpful - came and tried to catch the bat but failed. The hotel was full so we had to find accomodations elsewhere for the rest of the night. The price we paid for our room was refunded. We returned to the front desk the next day with our bill from the hotel we actually slept in (bat free) requesting they pay for that as well. We thought this was a reasonable request as they would have given us another room at the Belhurst if there had been one. We got a call from management that afternoon flat out refusing - this is really where our extreme dissatisfaction sets in. Per the manager, it is an old building and they get bats all the time. ALL THE TIME!!! And they don't care to do anything about it. My husband and I had to get rabies vaccinations per the CDC recommendations, and the management at Belhurst doesn't care a bit. Honestly - look it up. Their rating with the Better Business Bureau is an F, due to the number of complaints the BBB receives due to poor customer service and non-response to complaints. Driving from Albion down to Watkins Glen State Park, we opted to stop at Belhurst Castle for lunch. I advocated for Stonecutters, since it was highly rated for its sandwiches and views by the other Yelpers. But I never win when there's a buffet and my father-in-law has a say. So instead we opted for the $9.95 lunch buffet at Edgars. This review is for Edgars only. The experience gets 2 stars: 1 for the history and potential of the space, and 1 for the very professional and friendly wait staff. The space was a missed opportunity for a decorator. Everything was too ornate, and not in the kind of way where it's just opulent and goes together.... it just looked old and sad and cheap. We were seated on what had been a porch at one time, and had been enclosed in such a way that it blocked the natural light and the gorgeous views of Seneca Lake. The ornate wood carvings and wood-paneled walls looked historic, but it was hard to tell in the low light. We did see the historic panels that talked about how the castle was originally built in Massachusetts and then somehow relocated to NY. Seems like they could have done a lot more to play upon the history rather than cover it with sad pink curtains. Speaking of low light, you couldn't really see what you were getting from the buffet. Not that you wanted to, since it was all made off-site by Sysco or some other food service company and just reheated before being put into the chaffing dishes. The teriyaki pork was very dry and chewy. the battered cod with wasabi sauce had very little flavor and the batter was soggy from the sauce. The rolls were served cold. The vegetables for the salad bar were decently fresh, but the pre-made Caesar salad was dripping with dressing. Even the desserts were primarily made offsite, and they were an additional $6.95-$7.95 each. Next time, just eat at Stonecutters and sit on the patio! read more

The original castle is grand, the addition on the outside is nicely done with the standard materials and massing, but the interior new addition does not live up to the exterior and leaves much to be desired. The food and service do not fit the potential of a high end or spa like establishment, I had such high expectations because of the advertisement & the grand building type, original castle, I would not discourage one from staying or eating here, but just did not meet my expectations for the money. If you do stay, if you do not get a room in the original castle, I would seriously think twice about staying in the winery. Also seems to be a wedding factory, e.g. They do a ton of weddings and are more set up for this mass banquet event and not a spa or resort type high end hotel. Quality of service is not really very good for the hotel or the dining experience - the staff would benefit from some customer service training. We have to add that we wrote a letter to the owner letting him know of our disappointment with the stay and he responded with a very thoughtful letter letting us know that he would address the issues we had and apologized for the challenges we experienced during our stay! Definitely worthy of another try if we are in the area. read more

My bf and I decided to do a romantic getaway for valentines day and I had ALWAYS wanted to try the Belhurst. It was ok, but for the money charged it should have been an amazing experience. The actual old castle part seems to be meticulously maintained. The rest of their residences not so much. We got a room with a fireplace and jacuzzi. Both worked perfectly though it would've been nice if there was a way to just leave the fireplace going instead of its intermittent setting. The room itself was clearly no where near as well maintained as other parts of the castle. There were old crackers under the desk from previous occupants, the shampoos and soaps in the bathroom hadn't been replaced with fresh unopened ones, and the garbages had not been changed. It makes me wonder what else wasn't cleaned. We dined at Edgar's and what a horrible disappointment. We ordered an appetizer of scallops that were completely over cooked, rubbery, and obviously not remotely fresh. As was the same with my grouper. It was greasy and disgustingly fishy. I'm a huge seafood girl. I know what Grouper should taste like and this was disgusting. Same with the over steamed mushy broccoli. It came on a bed of pasta and even that wasn't edible. My bf's lamb came out overcooked. The only highlights of the meal were the sweet potatoes (with pecans that we asked to be left off but somehow that couldn't be managed), the Caesar Salad with dressing that was truly out of this world, and dessert. The whole meal was a fiasco and still wound up costing $150. Their winery was fun, and so was their gift shop but all in all this isn't a place I will ever stay again. Stayed here with friends over a great May wkd. Beautiful and spacious rooms with lots of amenities. The Stonecutter pub was a lot of fun and we met some great people. Also, Buford and Smokin Dave were great on Sat night ( the band) A big plus - they don't overcharge for the menu and drinks. We actually got some good deals on wine. Tip - if your really nice to the staff they'll help you find the secret spigot! Staff were generally fantastic. A special thanks to Matt, Claire, Nikki, Angela, Conchita and Bill for making our time here so enjoyable. A couple of minor negatives - it was tough getting an order taken at Stonecutters. Stayed at the Belhurst Castle in the Otis room, did a wine tasting in the shop, ate at the Stonecutters restaurant and used the spa. The Belhurst castle stay: The reservation process was very easy and straightforward online, the checkin process was easy and the staff was very friendly. Walking to our room we noticed how dirty the hall carpet was. Past the hostess stand for Edgar's you are hit with a stench that starts with a dirty chimney smell, up the stairs; an old wood smell and on the second floor... stale wine. The room was as clean as it could be considering the antiques in it. Overall, the room smelled musty, likely due to the peeling and yellowed wallpaper. I have seen in other reviews where the staff responded indicating a certain pride in keeping things original but it shouldn't be at the cost of comfort to your guests. The bathroom, which in no way could be original, is so out of date that it borders on run-down. We hit up the famous wine tap in the 2nd floor hallway and discovered where the smell and fruit flies were coming from, it was pretty foul and thought it was nothing an occasional flush wouldn't have taken care of. There was a cold continental breakfast that honestly isn't worth anyone's time (I should note that we stayed at the StonecuBelhurst a few years ago and didn't find it to have the same dirty/rundown feel and maybe they are struggling like most businesses post-pandemic and definitely are short staffed.) The Stonecutters restaurant: the restaurant was good and had some pretty good food and drinks with friendly staff. We love the bar and the seating at the bar, it is very comfortable and has a great view of the lake. The wine tasting was great, the woman that served us was very friendly, personable and knowledgeable and enjoyed it immensely. Stayed in the billiard room a little pricey for the room size. Room was clean . Free breakfast in the morning. Marty at front desk was extremely helpful in getting us a table at a nearby restaurant after every other place had a 90 minute wait. Mandy who served my wife and I in the tasting room went above and beyond. Can't beat the old world charm and history of the castle. Great weekend! read more

Good meal. The wine selections are a good mix of their own wines and other wines. The specials were good and the service was very nice. The lobster bisque was smooth with nice chunks of lobster. The filet mignon was a touch more cooked than I had requested (medium rare), but overall, it was very nice. read more

This is for the wine tasting dinner in the dinning room. We did the wine tasting dinner package and were disappointed. Advertised as 6 courses paired with wines, I never would have believed I would walk out hungry. We've done many, many wine dinners and have never felt anything but full at the end. This was minimalist on a scale not to be believed. There were only 3 tables and a total headcount of 10. Perhaps they figured they could save money on this small group? I will only give a couple of examples. The "duck egg" was a really half a chicken egg. That was the first course and took :30 to show up after the first wine was poured. The salad consisted of a single peel of carrot circled around a pinch of dandelion greens. I'm not exaggerating when I say 1 large carrot was used to plate all 10 salads. I don't even remember what the supposed entree was. It might have been a sandwich with a couple of pieces of pork on bread the size of a silver dollar. I will add that :15-:30 passed between each "course". The meal took over 2:30 which would be fine but we actually got MORE hungry as the meal went on since it took so long to complete the service. The wines were a selection from Belhurst and nothing special. I will say that we were given plenty of the wine. The servers were very polite and friendly. My wife and I are not big eaters but this left me hoping I could get something more at the bar afterwards. Unfortunately the meal took so long we barely made it for last call! (Great bar by the way). I watched as food was delivered to tables in another dining room and yearned for sustenance! My advice is, skip the wine dinner, enjoy the beautiful accomadations, and order off the menu in the dining room. read more

We had our wedding reception here on April 21st, 2012 and it was the most perfect day. We were planning from Boston, MA and chose the Belhurst because it had everything - rooms, a spa, a ceremony space (which we didn't end up using), wine tasting and the best priced wedding package of all the places we looked at in the finger lakes (about 10). In addition, it was the most beautiful building and grounds in our opinion. Working with Carmen and Stephanie ended up being wonderful. Carmen knows absolutely everything about planning a wedding there - there was not a question she couldn't answer. The only thing that was even a little bit negative was that it was sometimes hard to get a response from them - they are understandably busy, but this was a bit stressful for this busy bride. That being said, every question I emailed them about was addressed when we did finally connect. On the weekend of, they were so incredible and accommodating, I was blown away. The day was just perfect, and I was thrilled with how everything turned out. I also used the services at Isabella Spa, and they were wonderful too. A couple pieces of my hair fell out because I was laying on the ground and running around in the wind for pictures and they fixed it right up before the reception started. It was a great decision to have our reception there, I definitely recommend! read more

My family and myself have been dining here since the 1950's, in the original, historic building. The addition has ruined it for me, as a desecration of original architecture. Yet, the weekday buffet for $9.95 was usually a dining pleasure. Now, in July 2012, the price has gone to $12.95 in just over 2 years! The 2 soups were both poor (low flavor and skimpy ingredients) and about half of the hot entrees (esp. the awful Salisbury Steak) were below par. Did they hire a new chef? Nov. 2013. I called for some info, but the young (?) woman that answered the phone spoke so machine gun-like rapid fire, that I couldn't catch the name of the place or hers! read more

They gave us a room on the third floor, but we could still feel the vibrating bass from the wedding party on the ground floor. Probably better not to sleep anyway, since the room is absolutely full of mosquitoes. No other rooms available to move us, and no refunds. Hope we don't get Zika. read more

The Belhurst was the best place I could imagine having my fall wedding. I had my ceremony, reception, and rehearsal dinner all there. It was great to have a location that all of my family and guests could stay at. It actually turned out to be a destination wedding. Carmen was a dream to work with, I loved that I could email back and forth with her for any and all random questions. I felt so relaxed day of because she coordinates the whole thing, you don't have to worry about someone else coming to a venue they don't know, she's done thousands of weddings and really just has it down to a science. I loved the Isabella Spa, it was so easy for my and my bridal party to just walk downstairs and get ready in the morning, no wrangling everyone to get from one place to another on my big day. I had my make up trial and tried it out for a day a few months earlier to see what worked and what didn't. My makeup and hair turned out beautiful, and stayed beautiful throughout the night because the spa was literally right there. I recently went for another wedding and booked a make up artist and manicure. Everyone who works there is so friendly and accommodating and will make sure you don't leave until you look and feel your best. The food and wine were outstanding, my guests all loved the starters and the pairings. All of my parents friends say it was the best wedding they ever attended and are booking return trips for their fall vacations. For me, having everything I needed right there was wonderful so I didn't have to worry about separate details on my big day. I think for the guests they got to have a mini vacation, go to the spa, have their free wine tasting, listen to music at Stonecutters, and stay in a beautiful castle with an awesome view and amazing staff. read more

Don't waste your time if you're going with a group. The grounds are pretty and the gift shop has a nice selection however the staff was SO rude. We were a group of 13 with a reservation. The wine tasting was maybe 5 minutes total. They chose the wines we tasted, we had no say. The cashier knew we did a tasting but gave us a hard time when it came to the $2 off a bottle purchase, told us that was really only the sales tax and asked if we really wanted the discount. Go see the castle but go elsewhere for wine, where you feel appreciated and not rushed back out the door. read more

My fiance and I have traveled back to my home state for wedding venue shopping from Chicago. My fiance made an anointment with Belhurst, as we tried to reschedule, the person called us back and had notified us that we had cancelled. We never cancelled our appointment, but were just looking at other times. Also this was a response that took 48 hours to receive..... After viewing several venues over the course of 2 days we decided to give them a second shot and dropped in. The front desk person let us know that their wedding staff was gone for the day. We asked to view the ballrooms and she was hesitant as they were setting up for Easter brunch! We finally walked away and did get a chance to see them. She was not to happy about it as I could tell by here body language, but the rooms were open and NO ONE was in either ballroom. Rude in my opinion since the same day other venues were doing the same exact prep work and gladly took us on a tour while preparations were going on! Sad in my opinion as this place obviously ride high on an inflated ego because THE ORIGINAL CASTLE is sort of novelty. The majority of the building have been added on in the past 10 years and do not integrate well with the old. Cheap materials and such lends to a holiday inn express lobby type feel. The ballrooms were a little worn, and tired. Both could use new paint and be brought out of the late 80s early 90s look they project. As far as a wedding is concerned one really does not have anything to do with the castle as both ballrooms are add ons. Great place for pictures, but that is not worth the entire package. The decision was made to gladly pursue other venues as the hospitality was unsatisfactory and the interior brought it down further. read more

The place has all the markings of a restaurant that wants to deliver a fine dining experience but falls short in every way possible. All of the dishes had so many embellishments that you could barely tell what the actual food was and every main dish and appetizer was "Nestled" in a bed of something or other. The wine from the area was mediocre at best and that's after trying 6 different variations, having a fruit fly (one of 4 buzzing our table) land in one of our glasses shortly after it arrived only to have our server act like it was a normal occurrence. Overall just disappointed with our experience. My husband and I booked this hotel ( the tower suite) for our honeymoon. I am a huge history geek so I loved the castle, all the information and literally feeling like I was stepping back in time. Unfortunately my fairytale stopped there. The cleaning staff was NON existent. Someone left garbage in the hallway and it was there for 72 hours. The restaurants are horrible. Don't even bother trying a salad. The tasting room and wine area are nice. The spa was meh. We got a couples massage that was probably one of the worst massages. I love Geneva so I will be back to the area, just not to the castle. read more

I was planning a girls trip for my sisters 30th birthday and chose Belhurst. I called to book a suite and they said nothing was available. I decided to look online and saw the Dwyer House available for $615 a night and slept 8 which was perfect because there were 7 of us. I called back and they said oh we do have that available and i said i would like to book and it she seems surprised. I went ahead with the booking and got the confirmation email. Mind you i was never asked how many guests. I also call the spa to book a mommys massage, which was $130, for my sister who is pregnant and they were the sweetest and most helpful. I then called to make dinner reservations and they said they couldnt accomodate us so we booked elsewhere. At check in the manager asks how many and I say 7. He then proceeds to print out a new reservation and says I owe a balnace with no explanation. I ask why and he said because you have 7 so it costs more to make up the sofa bed. I get a little upset because I mention that no one had said this to me and the house sleeps 8. He then said i told them 5 people were staying and lied and it was my resposibility to call the hotel and make sure I told them the right amoutn of guests and they shouldnt have to ask. I pulled up my confirmation which stated 1 guest. He said he wouldnt budge and then said how about we cancel your resevration. I was so upset at this time that I decided to book elsewhere and my sister didnt even want her massage at that point. I have managed hotels and have never been treated so poorly. My sister reaches out to her friend who works in the restaurant and they were so upset at how we were treated. Michael and Brandon convinced us to come back to have dinner which he made room for. They turned out night around. I decide to take matters furthur and email the marketing manager and she apologized but agreed with the manager of the hotel and said she I called called to say 5 of us were staying which wasnt true and when I sent an email back stating how unacceptable this all was I recieved nothing back. Although I did get a refund I was left without a hotel and had to spend much more elsewhere, never got the massage done and then continued to go back to Belhurst to spend over 400 for dinner. I will never return to this establishment and am so upset that my sister 30th was ruined. Geneve on the Lake made our night and apologized for our experience in Geneva. I am extremely dissapointed in how the Belhurst is run given its name and that we were willing to spend over 1,000 on one night during covid. I would rather give my money to small businesses who deserve it and I will be sharing my experince with many. read more

The view is amazing but the service was pretty bad. I normally don't like to give bad reviews, but we were rushed through our wine tasting to the point where the bartender was tapping his fingers waiting to pour our next taste of wine before we'd finished drinking our first. It was like that throughout the entire tasting and they rushed us out as fast as they could. I put 2 and 2 together when a 10 person bridal party came in right after we'd paid. I understand that we were only a 2 person group, but we still deserved to be treated fairly. This was the first wine tasting I've ever done that lasted less than 5 minutes. read more

Reviews from my mom who doesn't have a yelp: horrible breakfast... everything pre-packaged. They didn't clean the rooms well (left dirty dishes in rooms, only brought clean towels one day and didn't bring enough), rules were absolutely over the top... no one knew actual rules for COVID... someone told them one thing and then someone else told them another, a staff member got hostile with my father for trying to smoke a cigar outside by the fire pit WHICH THE FRONT DESK SAID WAS OKAY... just were really disappointed with the stay overall. Only plus was wine whenever you want... won't be back. read more
