My son planned this beautiful Mother's Day by taking me to dinner at Belhurst Castle and Winery in Geneva, NY. It was an hour drive and we had reservations at 5:30. We were seated promptly at 5:30 however, that would be the best of the experience. We sat at our table for over half an hour before anyone even approached us. We watch tables near us, some that were seated at the same time and some afterwards, being serviced and meals being brought to tables. When our order was finally taken, the meal that I wanted was no longer available, they had sold out. So, we placed our orders around 6:15pm and we weren't served until 7:14pm. After not getting the meal that I wanted, I ordered the salmon, and it was so raw that it was wet and cold. The waitress asked if I wanted something else, by this time I was more than disappointed, and we had an hour drive back home. Needless to say, I left Belhurst having had nothing to eat. This was as awful experience and I felt bad for my son because this was something that he had planned in hopes for a beautiful day. I have to say, that I've had better service at Applebee's, but the scenery was beautiful. read more

Upon arriving at Edgar's for a 5:30 reservation, our waiter advised us that the chef "likes to stick to the regular menu on Sundays" so we could not order from the Price Fix menu offered on the website. This turned out to be false as confirmed by another server. It was upsetting that the server outright lied to us. And if he wasn't sure he should have asked someone. We were not looking to cheap out for dinner, we just liked the offerings on the price fix. We ended up ordering a few of the same items from the regular menu anyway. Calamari was undercooked. Caesar salad was bland. After a crazy long wait, all 4 of our dinners arrived lukewarm at best. The steak was chewy. The angel hair was overcooked and the sauce on it was gloppy. Salmon was dry. The service was inattentive. Clearly, they are either short staffed or lacking in training. I don't know how our food could have been sitting in the kitchen long enough to get that cold that no one on the staff could have delivered it sooner. If the server needed help, he should have asked for help, and whoever is running the place should have noticed. The only reason I gave 1 star is for the view. I took my husband for birthday . The suite was $420 with a jacuzzi. I did feel it was a lot yet I figured it would be luxurious boy was I wrong! The floor by the jacuzzi was wet I figured while cleaning it must have splashed out I can overlook that . Then while watching tv the ceiling starts pouring out water, my husband went down to inform staff because the phone did not work. The woman at the desk brushed it off. I packed we left. I told her to cancel spa treatments and she told me to call around 10 to let them know I assured her I would call no one. She promised management would call in the Am they did not. This place looks very nice from the outside as it's along the water. However, don't let the visual fool you! We went for the wine tasting and stayed for the food since we were a little buzzed. The wine is fine but the server was terrible. She told us that rosè is a mix of red and white wine! Bless her heart! I didn't have the heart to correct her since she said it with such confidence. The food is terrible. I ordered the steak sandwich and it was extremely salty. My wife ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and it looked limp, tasted bland, and was dry. If you are a young person in your late 20s/early 30s you might as well just sleep in a tent down the road like a flea market salesman who is on a sexual predators list. I was not even staying here, I was just coming here with my partner to try out wines (which we did, and they were delicious), and a spiteful woman instantly accosted us for approaching a table with cheese on it, screaming that it was a private event. As someone who hunts when you enter a property its usually appropriately posted "Private Property, Do Not Trespass," but there was no demarcation of the private event from the public room / bar available. It surprised me that she'd be so stern with us -- it was a table in the middle of a room of nic nacks that middle aged women would love, beer glasses that says "This dad needs a beer," novelty hot sauces, all the decor that tourists are drawn into buying. Being that I am a patient God-fearing man that is slow to anger, I figured she had a rough day. Don't we all? I understand why some young people are seen with disgust, as we have destroyed Applebee's and other industries as millennials, so I also "got" why she was irritated. The wines were delicious and "Danny" the bar boy was cute, tall, and extremely accommodating. A nice fella, the other girl behind the counter smiled along with the quips we made. I still had 2 other drinks to go (a beer and a cider I paid a $1 a piece to sample) when - you guessed it - Cheese Mussolini attempted to take my glass. "So you are done? OK. Have a nice day." She gestured to Danny in an irritating way, mad that he didn't take our glass yet. I almost had to grab the glass to stop her from taking it. I told her that I still had drinks I paid for. I looked at my partner and nonverbally said, "what the hell is wrong with this woman?" Anyway, in the beer/cider/wine tasting room that has souvenirs, there is a rather mean spirited manager who doesn't seem to treat customers or staff right. We had our friends in for pre dinner cocktails and could not round up enough chairs for 4 people. There were six of us at dinner. NO ONE had a good meal. I had seafood chowder which within 4 hours gave me extreme food poisoning. Up all night throwing up. My husband talked to the front desk guy the next morning and he said it could not have been food poisoning because no one else got sick. Our room is about $300 a night that is said to come with complementary continental breakfast. The breakfast is so subpar and service almost non existing that I would rather they charge for a decent breakfast. The breakfast is not even close to those offered from budget hotels. For a continental, they dont have eggs, meat or potatoes. Just three tables filled with packaged junk foods and breads you can get from any grocery store. My husband and I were going to spend our 40th anniversary at your facility. We checked into our room, when we arrived in room we called the front desk for additional pillows. They advised us where we should look for them, but there was no dresser for them to be in, they weren't in the closet, so we looked under the bed and found a condom wrapper instead. At that point they changed our room to another one in a different part of facility. We had a most enjoyable dinner at the restaurant. The next morning we took a shower, and looked down at the drain and there was someone else's hair in the drain, a lot of hair. I have to say that I don't understand the poor reviews of Belhurst. We stayed in the West room in White Springs Manor. I found the room to be cozy and charming. The service was good and friendly. We had food and drinks at Stonecutters and while it wasn't exceptional by any means it was still a pleasant experience. The castle grounds are beautiful and so were the grounds of the manor. The only complaints I had were minor, a slow drain, 5 minute drive to the main hotel to get breakfast or other meals, no maid service but we were only there 2 nights. To say that my wife and I are disappointed in our dining experience is to put it mildly since we returned to Belhurst Castle - Edgar's restaurant because of several previous dining experiences. Tonight we ordered a bottle of wine and had to wait approximately 20 minutes for the wine and then had to wait while the server took the bottle to have it opened in a different room from the room in which we were seated. Once the server returned she did not ask which of us would like to taste the wine. She just poured us a full glass of wine. Once our dinner orders were placed we waited between 10 and 15 minutes for the food to be delivered. My wife ordered the house salad and it was very good. It contained several fresh green. I ordered the Caesar salad. It came with tomatoes but without anchovies. The shrimp in my wife's Jumbolia were very good. But the dish was way too big. Much of the rice was sent back because there was just too much to eat. I ordered the salmon. The waitress did not ask how I would like the salmon to be cooked. The fish came rather dry. I would have preferred the salmon a bit more moister. The asparagus that accompanied the fish was well prepared- not mushy nor raw. But the alleged risotto that served as a bed for the fish and the asparagus was more like wallpaper paste. The risotto was flavorless. It was dry. It was tasteless. It was sticky. Given the service (or lack thereof ) and the quality of the food we will not return to Edgar's. Stayed here for our honeymoon. Very displeased with the condition of the room. Wallpaper is peeling. Cracks in the plaster. Water stains on the rug. The most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in as hard as a rock. If you didn't have back pain you will after a few days in this bed trust us. Besides the fact the room which by the way is # 108 is on my he third floor with no access to the room by elevator. Not easy to do stairs everyday with a new hip replacement. Had to carry our own bags to our room and out to our car. No bell hops or help here at all. Was asked after the fact that they watched us walk by moving our luggage. We were woken up to the dumpster being dumped two mornings at 6 am and then there is some contractors using a circular saw at 6:30 am. Plus the lack of hot water in the am. Cold showers on three random days. Edgar's restaurant over priced tasteless food. Avoid the chicken. I could of cooked a better grilled chicken on a fire then this food. The rice was bland. My wife's dinner was supposed to be seared salmon well it was raw on the inside. The only decent part of the meal was the dessert. We did eat at Stonecutters which we recommend very much. read more

First of all, we didn't stay here - we stayed at a local B&B which personally I think it's a better choice. What G and I did was the Wine and Cheese pairing - Flight of the six Belhurst wines and it is HIGHLY recommended it. You need to definitely call and make a reservation. We were quite lucky that we had Bruce as the wine connoisseur because he was knowledgeable and you can tell he enjoyed what he was doing. He provided us with many information about wines and whenever I asked about different types of wines like Malbec - the man knew what he was talking about. Another example - apparently grapes for red wine and the process of it are fickle than the grapes for white wine. By the way, don't rush and take your time...I believe that is what you should be doing in a tasting and understanding why some wine taste great/awful with some food. Plus I wanted to pace myself for I wasn't doing the pairing to get intoxicated and we found it silly that another couple came in later than us and left within one hour and a half. We were there for four hours - but it didn't feel that long. So why the 3 stars? Well unfortunately, the food was just okay. You can see the potential of the food but it wasn't doing for us. The salmon was overcooked, the risotto was hard to chew, and although the steak was medium rare, you couldn't find the flavor of the meat. Not all was bad. The salad and the Pinot Gris was the best match ever...I never knew you can pair a salad with wine. The golden buck was simple but tasty and then everything else was okay. We didn't stay here but did have 2 lunches at StoneCutter's (the more casual of the restaurants) which we enjoyed (see my review of StoneCutter's), shopped in their gift shop, and had wine tastings here. Of the wineries we visited, this one had a red that I adored and then purchased -- Manitou, a blend of Cabernet franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Verdot, Merlot and Malbec. No matter how many reds I was about to taste, I was sure I wanted this one. And mind you, I'm usually a white wine fan firstmost. That said, I also loved their semi-dry Riesling. Our Belhurst Castle experience was wonderful! It is an authentic 19th century castle with an amazing view of Seneca Lake. It's a one-stop destination--you don't even have to leave the property during your getaway but there is also much to do in town and plenty of wineries and craft breweries all around Lake Seneca. If you stay in the old castle, there is a wonderful hidden spigot behind a locked door where you can enjoy complimentary Belhurst Red wine--that was a popular spot to meet other guests. Also castle guests get complimentary wine or craft beer tastings. The castle rooms and beds are comfortable but don't expect the modern amenities such as USB plugs in the room. Do bring your own. The food in the restaurants was 3.5-4 star--but the coffee and desserts are divine. We plan on returning! read more

Went for lunch today, the server Tyerry was amazing, she prompt and check on us often. We're we're able to get a table with a small wait time. The food was delicious!! Spent one night in the ICE house and was very disappointed. The room was very small and dated. Also, one sofa short from the picture. We had three people, and it was stocked with two of everything. The robes were old and worn and the TV was very small. The tiny bed was pulled out which left us without a place to sit and eat and chat. The pub was fun, and staff was friendly, but dinner at Edgers we awful. Appetizer was cold and missing sauce. Pork chops and salmon were both too salty to eat. The service was very slow and non-apologetic. I waited 30 min for a glass of wine. I went for a massage at the spa and was very disappointed. I was never asked a question and I could barely feel the massage, very weak! Check out is at 11:30 and we were shopping in the store at 11:25 and asked when we will be turning in our keys. The only positive about the place was the pub. The free continental breakfast was the same as the free breakfast program at the public schools in my area. It is time to stop using COVID as an excuse for being inadequate. I love the area but will definitely be looking for a different place to stay next time. read more

We stayed at White Spring Manor (Belhurst runs this). Bring your own sheets, towels ,and wash cloths. Disgusting brown marks on all the towels. The Jacuzzi was just dirty and had black gunk around the faucets. The sheets were dirty . Complained to front desk and by phone and still no response or apology. I will say that I loved staying at White Spring Manor, it was a fun night but they need a total fire and rehire of the whole Belhurst staff. It's unacceptable to have such beautiful properties that make great income but have a lack of cleanliness and little concern when brought to their attention. They were very friendly but that is just a cover for their dirty practices. You'll have a great time if you pack Lysol and what I suggested above. read more

The castle and grounds are nice. It is nothing compared to the multi-centuries old castles in Europe, but this is a cool spot if you're ever in the area. We were here for Thanksgiving (November 2020), so I may come back in the summer when we can enjoy outside dining, some wine, and the great views of Seneca Lake. The "Wine Spigot" is a plus for those staying in the castle. It has a "Red" coming out which is decent, not too dry and not sweet. All of the staff we interacted with were great. Bring ear plugs if you're a light sleeper or a fan (especially if you are like me and usually sleep with a fan). We stayed in the Collins Room which I think is near the restaurant kitchen and heard loud music both nights we were there when trying to go to sleep. I called the front desk the second night (Thanksgiving night) and asked if there was a wedding reception or if someone in one of the rooms near us was playing music. The desk clerk said they would go walk the castle to investigate and within a few minutes the music stopped! The room was maintained ok, but I wonder how long it's been since the carpets were cleaned. I spilled a bottle water on the floor and tamped it up with one of the towels and the towel was pretty disgusting afterward. Grey carpet so who knows when it was last deep cleaned. read more

Here's my review. Please pass it on to the owners.... Two of my daughters had their reception here. For 1st wedding in 2015, everything went great! But wow! What a difference 7 yrs later! First of all, the events coordinator, whom is supposed to be available to help with wedding details, questions, is impossible to get ahold of. In fact, she does NOT return your emails or phone calls unless it's the week of the wedding, which of course caused additional stress to the bride and everyone involved in the planning. Secondly, it's really frustrating that you're spending all this money on a wedding and they have no rooms available for the bride & groom, bridal party, or guests! If Belhurst staff KNOWS they have weddings every weekend, why wouldn't you block out rooms to accommodate at least the bride & groom and bridal party? Nope! So we had to stay at White Springs Manor (also a Belhurst property but a few miles away). Let me start with all the disgusting dead bugs between the glass window panes. Gross. And the stained carpeting. And the old and not-so-clean shower & tub. And the dirty coffee pot in our room. There is also no food or drinks or other conveniences at White Springs Manor, but they charge as much as a stay at the Castle! And lastly, the wedding reception food was just ok...we paid extra for a prime rib cutting station and the prime rib ran out when some guests went up to get more! Another annoying pet peeve of mine was I noticed that when guests still had a full drink on their table, the wait staff tossed it so guests would have to go order yet another drink at the consumption bar! This happened throughout the evening. For the cost of this reception, I was not pleased. We had a great time, but that was because of the guests attending and the wonderful DJ, certainly NOT because of Belhurst staff. Honestly had the best time with my parents this past weekend. Of course it is a bit outdated since it's old, but beautiful inside in the main areas and especially views of the lake and location!! I loved it. We stayed at the playhouse manor which is a 5 minute drive from the castle, it had a jacuzzi in the living room, and two bedrooms, a wonderful bathroom and cant get over the view! You can see acres of green land, the fresh breath of air, and seeing wild animals; cows and horses. Love the small cottage in the countryside. Deff will be going back. Also service was AMAZING. They were so nice!!! They have complimentary breakfast, but we had ordered from the menu, pancakes are delicious!! read more

The grounds and view of the lake are great. The rooms are very dated and the mattress in the Vinifera Inn are a small step above sleeping on the floor. It was so uncomfortable it hurt my back. The pillows are pathetic, 2 pillows for a king size bed and they are cheap Walmart type pillows. $400 per night I expect at least some quality and comfort. The food in the restaurant is not good. The veal dish was overcooked and very underwhelming, not to mention poor presentation. The steak was cooked uneven which I suspect is due to issues with their grill. My wife and I booked a room at the Castle for 2 nights and 2 nights in the Venifera. I was very pleased how accommodating management was on our pricing considering the split of room during our stay. We picked the "It's a Wonderful Life" weekend in Seneca falls so they were already booked in the castle for Saturday and Sunday so they worked with us and together we figured out how to stay our full 4 nights. In the Castle we stayed in the Billiard room on the 3rd floor. Before I go on, let me mention in reviewing the castle, one needs to understand what it means to stay at historically old building. 1. Elevators in the castle? there are none, 2 modern vs historical, Things are old, things will creek in the night. I enjoy the exclusivity in staying in the castle, you feel important and allowed in places other guests are not. They even have a special spigot inside a small gate built into a stone wall. You get a key to unlimited wine, only issue is the blend keeps you down to a couple glasses. It's VERY full bodied and thick. Rooms are old with modern bathrooms and low water pressure as to be expected in an older building. The Balcony type rooms are a must. They allow for added comfort and ambiance. The Restaurant is directly downstairs from the rooms. The smell of Sunday brunch is nostalgic in the morning. So that is welcoming. Overall the stay in the castle is an experience if we could have a staff to go with it. Before I get into our stay in the Venifera, let me first say that the older staff at the front desk (above the age of 30) were the only thing keeping this place in business. They are professional, more exerienced and understand "Hospitality" with a " "Yes" is the answer, what can I do for you attitude". Whoever is in charged of managing the staff, and training should be fired!! When I pay over 300.00 a night in a historic work of art, with all the bells and whistle's, w/ a Restraunt to brag about (Which by the way everyone from Geneva to Seneca Falls warned us not to eat at, so we didn't) I would expect Bellmen to be uniformed and attentive rather than in jeans an untucked tee shirt and sneakers. Id expect my luggaged carried to my room, rather than me haul it up 3 flights of stairs. I'd expect the attitude of my staff in Stonecutters to be more welcoming. Especially whoever the bleach blonde rude bartender was that thought it appropriate to let us know how annoying the "It's a Wonderful Life Festival" (the whole reason we were in town) is, Step in the way of the other bartender (I think her name was Kelsi) who welcomed us in, and close early telling us we have to cash out before we even finished our first drink and give an attitude that we are on our own until she finishes her paperwork as the picks up her phone to call her son right in front of us!!! Very tacky seeing some servers in shorts and some in pants ALL different colors with exception to the Edgars staff. I'd expect my cleaning staff to be uniformed or dressed more appropriately out of the eye of guests, instead of lounging on the lobby couch texting with her cart next to her for all coming in to see. Keeping this as short as simple as I can- When my room isn't fitted with silverware and I come to the front desk and ask the staff member at the desk if they have any silverware so we can eat our leftovers we took back to our room, I would expect a different answer instead of "Sorry, I don't see any" right when there is two restaurants down the hall. Although they are closed, it seemed the older front desk guy understood the confused look on my face to this girls response and promptly took care of me. How many guest does that front desk staff member react with? How many staff does the bartender, Porter/bellboy/, cleaning staff, and servers react with? How many guests have those liabilities lost your hotel? I can tell you that it lost us. I have never paid 300 dollars a night for 50 dollar service. I really have no complaints about the Veifera besides the price. It is overpriced and I suggest doing something about the rodents playing in the dumpsters, gates open for all to see. Warning to mothers: Absolutely nowhere for a nursing mom to feed or pump. Maybe I'm naïve but I thought that was required these days??? I attended a wedding here on Friday night and while the grounds are beautiful, I was shocked that the best they could offer me for a semi-private place that had an outlet to plug my breast pump into was an open coat closet or an "off the beaten path" open hallway in the hotel. I luckily had a very friendly and helpful waitress help me find somewhere that kind of worked, but was still so surprised and disappointed by this. This was my first night away from my baby, which was hard enough on its own -- wasn't expecting to have to cover my chest as best I could and nod embarrassingly to other guests returning to their rooms while I sat there pumping. Very disappointed for the price paid for Billiard Room. Room was not ready when we arrived After check in had housekeeping staff walk right in without knocking. Room had wallpaper curling off walls, footboard on king bed was broke, headboard missing wood pieces, no toiletries in bathroom, and in the morning we had to share ONE towel. I was so hoping to post pictures of these things but not being able to..our advice for 250.00 a night.. think twice read more
