We went to Belhurst for the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. It was a little pricey for the meal but we didn't mind. It was a holiday and the food was excellent even though there was not a bit of dark meat ( my favorite) (which I specifically requested). The white meat was moist enough that I didn't mind that very much either. Our waitresses was as cute as she could be, very friendly and very prompt. After a wonderful desert I asked for a cup of coffee. I was directed to a coffee bar to fix it for myself. Seriously? A $125. Dollar dinner for 2 and I get my own Kurig coffee? I don't think so! Sorry Belhurst. That just cost you a star in my rating. I'll think twice before I reserve another holiday meal at Belhurst. read more

We were given a very generous gift certificate For our birthdays at the Belhurst Castle to stay at the Ice house. Well I'm not sure exactly where to start I guess we'll start at the icehouse. Looks really cute from the outside doesn't it? Take a closer look at the inside. Do you notice the kitchenette and the stove? Well it's really it's a dummy kitchenette.. because the stove doesn't work at all and the switches and for the fan are missing knobs and are broken. And if you notice the empty cupboards? No dishes no silverware no glasses no dishwasher. All you have is a sink and thank God a refrigerator that did work. And you will notice in the photos the condition of everything and there....very bleak to say the least. It's extremely dated probably around the time the castle was built in the 1800s. Ou Did you notice the missing lightbulb in the vanity and the very outdated fluorescent pigtail bulb? And a filthy bathtub. I don't have that photo yet but I will post it it's on a different phone. The Carpets were stained with who knows what.. The furniture was chewed by something? This place is a disgusting mess. I've come to the conclusion that the only way they stay in business is because of weddings and people are forced to stay there and pay exorbitant prices for old junk and students parents to come out of town and have nowhere else to stay either. And once that credit card is handed over it's too late. We also met the people who gave us the generous gift certificate for dinner that evening. Needless to say the condition of the icehouse kind of went right along with the dinner. I ordered lobster tail that was opaque. My fiancé had a vegetable tofu dish that nobody could find the tofu in. Her son had the prime rib which was full of fat and very thin. His wife had the salmon which she said was good but she could not eat the rice because it was so salty. Oh and not to mention the 3 AM surprise I had after eating that opaque lobster...That really made it worth the market price. It is kind of amazing that it affected me at all because most of the pieces I had to spit out on my plate because they were nothing but chewy rubber. I have had issues like this with other large corporations. One of the things I noticed that they never will not respond to your yelp because they don't really care about you all they care about is your money and how much of it can they get without doing anything. Just a little addition to the story for that evening I treated our guests to dinner and the bill came to $221.02 and I left a tip of $75. Evidently when I filled out the receipt I made an error in the addition of $100 so the bill was $396.02. No one seemed to catch that except I noticed it on my American Express bill. I contacted the hotel they said someone would get back to me and they never did. So I took it upon myself to email Marilyn@belhurst.com and still no response. So I had to contact American Express who I know will take care of this issue immediately. I would never trust a restaurant that would never check an error on their own receipt. I think it's better that you just put the tip in and don't add it up you'll never have a problem. :-) So just be forewarned and check out other reviews and make a habit of it before you go to places like this. That's what we're doing from now on. I'm going to pay more attention to the bad reviews than the good ones because that's what the truth is. Just for a sidenote we drove to Altmar NY to The TailWater restaurant hotel spa and had one of the most fantastic dinners ever. And we've actually eaten there many times. This place does not fool around. it is not owned by a corporation it is owned by a couple and believe me you will not find Friendlier hospitable people that cater to your every whim..Everyone that works there is absolutely amazing and so friendly and helpful you can't even imagine it's like a different world.. read more

I spent a night at Belhurst Castle in Geneva, NY. The Castle is amazing and beautiful. The grounds are neatly decorated with schrubs and flowers. A fire pit brought us together with two other couples we enjoyed conversing with.The staff whether it was in the restaurant, spa or wine room were all friendly, courteous and attentive. The tower suite was beautifully decorated, clean and spacious. I especially enjoyed sitting on the balcony enjoying the view of seneca lake. After experiencing some unexplained events, I must admit I slept with the lights on.This is truly a beautiful hotel,and for me was an amazing experience.They are also listed in the haunted history trail of New York. read more

Staying here 3 nights for birthday celebration. Room run down, no hair dryer in room, old 32 inch TV is not working properly so have to keep on constantly for fear we will not able to turn on again. I had the pleasure of attending a benefit dinner Thursday at the Belhurst. We had a packed house and there was an overwhelming amount of attendees that commented on how good our meal was. The worst service! Nobody in Stonecutter's Tavern seems to be overly interested in providing any level of service. Sitting at the bar and waiting almost 10 minutes for any service when the place was half empty. Waiting for a second glass of wine was painful. Went twice. The first time (pre-dinner) it was no issue opening a tab and taking our wine outside. Yet after dinner they said no tab. And to be honest, staff just not friendly. The overpriced meal at Edgar's was not enjoyable. Prime rib had no taste, lamb shank very fatty. And the vegetables just soaked in butter. Service there was terrible even though our waiter was very nice. He even comped a round of wine without even being asked as I am sure he realized how slow things were in a restaurant that was full. The service was so bad that I went to the front desk to see if I could check out early (one night rather than two) because of the terrible service. They didn't even flinch. They said "not a problem, we will change your booking to one night". Didn't even ask about my service issues leading me to believe they get this feedback often. Finger Lakes is a gorgeous region. While this place offers beautiful scenery, the service leaves something to be desired. I arrived with two friends for a wine tasting. The young man behind the counter did not greet us. Instead, he went on about his business. About 5 minutes later, a group of 3 young ladies arrived. The young man immediately assisted them. He then came over to us. He did not explain anything. He didn't talk about the wines. We figured out what we wanted to sample on our own, and he poured when he would notice we were ready for the next wine. Not impressed. I had high expectations for this winery. We got there when they opened at 10 am to start to day off on our wine trail. And our experience was poor. The facility is breath taking, don't get me wrong, but that's the only positive thing I could say about it. We were greeted by an eye rolling, brash server. We recently visited Belhurst for lunch and a wine tasting. We sat on the patio for our meal which was nice and had a beautiful view. The food was good and our server was very nice and polite. We then proceeded into the gift shop for our wine tasting. We were told we had to stand at the counter to taste and could not take our tasting outside which was a little disappointing. The shop was nice and had some fun offerings to browse. We enjoyed our visit but would have loved to see more tasting options in the shop and the ability to taste outside. read more

I've only been here for a wine tasting or two, but my experiences have been generally positive. The vast majority of the staff are welcoming and well-trained, though I did come across two folks at a cash register during a recent experience that didn't seem to be doing anything (and kinda gave you the eye if you approached them to cash out). They certainly weren't ringing anybody out. Somebody had to come tend to the alternative cash register and handle the line of people waiting to purchase items. During the Deck the Halls 2016 event, they paired a smoked gouda, chive, and crab fondue with three different wines, including a dry Riesling, semi-dry Riesling, and some kind of red wine that I apparently found forgettable. The fondue was delicious, and I ended up enjoying the semi-dry Riesling as well. While the main room for tastings and everything felt a bit crowded, the various wines and food/home/decor-related items could all make nice gifts. TL;DR Lovely building, though the tasting room can feel somewhat crowded with so many items for sale. Customer service needs work too. Otherwise, I've enjoyed my various experiences. read more

Let me say first that the property is beautiful. We spent a bit of time just wandering around and taking in the gorgeous lakeside estate. The grounds are immaculate and both my wife and I agreed this would be an amazing spot to throw a wedding. Belhurst was our first stop of the day, and we were there just as the tasting room opened for the day. We found the staff very friendly and attentive, and we were able to get our tasting started right away. The fun thing about the Belhurst tasting room is that not only will you taste a wine flight, but they'll pair a artisan cheese to each pour to compliment the wine. We don't see this at too many tasting rooms and we much enjoy tasting these wine and cheese pairings. Really well done. The wine was good... it wasn't the best we had that day, but that's just our palate. I can say we'd stop back by if we ever found ourselves back in Geneva again. read more

The only reason this gets 2 stars is due to the wait staff otherwise it would get zero. Wife and I were out for an extended weekend the pinnacle of which would end with what i'd had hoped to be a truly memorable meal at Egars. I had ordered the 24 oz prime rib and added scallops for a "surf and turf" believing that a steakhouse would prepare a treat. How dissapointed I was when about 10 oz of the 24 was nothing but grizzle, fat and silver skin. Completely inedible! I should have suspected something was up when the dish was brought and it was covered in a thick au jous hidding what should have been a beautiful piece of medium rare prime rib but what ended up being the lowest quality piece of meat. A good steakhouse wouldve served any sauce or au jous on the side. When i wouldnt finish it and made my displeasure known, i was offered a dessert on the house. Gee, thanks for the $8 consolation for serving me $40 piece of flavorless tendon. If you want a nice place and great food go to the Seneca Harbor Station in Watkins Glen. Staying here currently for a night away with the hubby, and while the property is beautiful, I would not recommend. We are staying in the castle on the second floor and our room smells horrible, almost like a sewage smell from flushing the toilet. There is a warning about flushing anything other than the toilet paper, so I can only assume the smell is due to old pipes? It's too late to change rooms at this point, so we just have to deal with it, but it's pretty unbearable. The bed is very old and there are visible stains on the uncovered box spring. Dinner was alright. We had a very friendly waiter who took care of us, but service was very slow, and food was ok. Our reservation was at 6:30, we probably didn't get food until 8. Luckily we rarely have a night away from our baby, so a slow dinner was not an awful experience, but definitely a bit slower than we'd like. For the price you pay to dine and stay, I feel like this venue really needs to do some remodeling and revamping. read more

This "castle" (a beautiful 19th-century manor) is popular for weddings and honeymoons, and I can see why! (Though for us it was just a vacation splurge) Our room in the newer hotel was clean, spacious, and awesome: in-room jacuzzi, fireplace, and a large, comfortable bed next to the windows with a beautiful view right down onto Seneca Lake. I can't speak for the food (didn't eat here at all), but a stroll around the well-maintained grounds was relaxing and beautiful, and we also enjoyed the complimentary wine-tasting that came with our room (the wines were better than I expected, and some rather interesting styles and blends including icewines, dry wines, and semi-sweet ones) Really enjoyed the one night we stayed here! read more

Never again. Went here to stay for my 50th birthday with my wife. Had dinner reservations and sat down at the table and no one came over. My wife asked if someone was going to serve us and the rude lady working there snapped at her and said we have a table of 9. We're busy. A table of 9? Guess that shuts the whole restaurant down. So no dinner. Woke up hungry. Went down to get breakfast. It was a stale Lenders bagel and generic cereal. We called the general manager who said he would call back. He never did. My wife called and he caught attitude with her stating he's not doing anything to fix it. We spent a total of over $800 in one night purchasing drinks and bottles of wine. Upon arriving at Edgar's for a 5:30 reservation, our waiter advised us that the chef "likes to stick to the regular menu on Sundays" so we could not order from the Price Fix menu offered on the website. This turned out to be false as confirmed by another server. It was upsetting that the server outright lied to us. And if he wasn't sure he should have asked someone. We were not looking to cheap out for dinner, we just liked the offerings on the price fix. We ended up ordering a few of the same items from the regular menu anyway. Calamari was undercooked. Caesar salad was bland. After a crazy long wait, all 4 of our dinners arrived lukewarm at best. The steak was chewy. The angel hair was overcooked and the sauce on it was gloppy. Salmon was dry. The service was inattentive. Clearly, they are either short staffed or lacking in training. I don't know how our food could have been sitting in the kitchen long enough to get that cold that no one on the staff could have delivered it sooner. If the server needed help, he should have asked for help, and whoever is running the place should have noticed. The only reason I gave 1 star is for the view. Don't waste your time or money eating at Edgar's. read more

The castle was beautiful, however there were issues that made our visit regretful and left us hungry and disappointed. First of all, the food was awful. My husband ordered the pork loin that was so tough that you could barely cut it with a sharp knife. It was dry, tasteless and difficult to chew. I was afraid that he was going to choke on it even though he cut it into small pieces. The chicken parmesan had very little seasoning and when you touched it, the batter just slid off of the chicken. To make matters worse, both of our meals were luke warm. I asked for extra rolls and was told they had no more rolls. In essence , one roll per person. The salad provided came with a balsamic type dressing. I asked if I could have another dressing but was informed they offered no other choices. Couldn't even enjoy the salad because I hate balsamic dressing. Again the meal was awful !!! To make matters worse, the bathroom that we were directed to use was a very small bathroom with two stalls. Extremely large group of people waiting in line for a small bathroom and one of the toilets did not flush. Unbelievable. Needless to say, the line was extremely long throughout the afternoon. I cannot tell you how disappointing we were with this place. I was just visiting the area for the day but I will never go back there if visiting again. read more

There was a group of 6 of us wanting to do a tasting and an older woman who I assume was a manager refused to serve us because we did not have a reservation. She would not allow us to do a tasting or even purchase bottles to sit out back - overall just a rude woman. For some background we arrived around 11am to the place completely empty with employees sitting around on their phones. Our Uber driver on the way over even told us that we would not have a pleasant experience here and we should have listened. The Belhurst Castle is a beautiful sight, sprawled across lush green lawns and over-looking the clear, blue waters of Seneca Lake. With room rates in the $300 to $400 per night range, you would expect a stay at the Belhurst Castle to be as glorious as your surroundings. Unfortunately, you would be wrong. We booked the Clay Room for an overnight stay after a wedding reception. The room was in SERIOUS need of repairs and improvements. Our key would not work in the door. It took a castle employee fiddling with it for about 10 minutes to finally loosen up the mechanism and get it to work. A section of molding in the doorframe by the doorknob was missing with an exposed nail jutting out. The fan in the bathroom was so clogged with dust it barely worked. The drain in the bathroom sink was also clogged. By the time you got done washing your hands, the sink was half filled with water. We were not alone in our dissatisfaction. At the following morning's wedding brunch, others expressed similar complaints. The worst experience of all was this - upon returning to their room after the reception, one couple could not get into their room at all. Their key would not work and castle employees could not get the door open either. All of their luggage and personal belongings were in that room and they could not get to them. Management, who seemed to have little concern for their plight, put them up, sans luggage, in the cheapest motel available down the street. Completely unacceptable. If you are looking for a high-class place with caring staff and excellent service, the Belhurst Castle is NOT it. Do not waste your money here. read more

If I can give this place zero stars it would still be too much. What a dump. They offer no chairs for tasting and you have to do it inside. Women who work there have terrible attitude. They just pour you wine into a glass with zero explanation, like they doing you a favor. And wine if you can call that... Even dry wines are very sweet and taste like garbage. We did wine and cheese tasting. Apparently they precut the cheese and put it on the board except those boards are not refrigerated. I got a food poison from this cheese. Stay away from this place. My son planned this beautiful Mother's Day by taking me to dinner at Belhurst Castle and Winery in Geneva, NY. It was an hour drive and we had reservations at 5:30. We were seated promptly at 5:30 however, that would be the best of the experience. We sat at our table for over half an hour before anyone even approached us. We watch tables near us, some that were seated at the same time and some afterwards, being serviced and meals being brought to tables. When our order was finally taken, the meal that I wanted was no longer available, they had sold out. So, we placed our orders around 6:15pm and we weren't served until 7:14pm. After not getting the meal that I wanted, I ordered the salmon, and it was so raw that it was wet and cold. The waitress asked if I wanted something else, by this time I was more than disappointed, and we had an hour drive back home. Needless to say, I left Belhurst having had nothing to eat. This was as awful experience and I felt bad for my son because this was something that he had planned in hopes for a beautiful day. To say that my wife and I are disappointed in our dining experience is to put it mildly since we returned to Belhurst Castle - Edgar's restaurant because of several previous dining experiences. Tonight we ordered a bottle of wine and had to wait approximately 20 minutes for the wine and then had to wait while the server took the bottle to have it opened in a different room from the room in which we were seated. Once the server returned she did not ask which of us would like to taste the wine. She just poured us a full glass of wine. Once our dinner orders were placed we waited between 10 and 15 minutes for the food to be delivered. My wife ordered the house salad and it was very good. It contained several fresh green. I ordered the Caesar salad. It came with tomatoes but without anchovies. The shrimp in my wife's Jumbolia were very good. But the dish was way too big. Much of the rice was sent back because there was just too much to eat. I ordered the salmon. The waitress did not ask how I would like the salmon to be cooked. The fish came rather dry. I would have preferred the salmon a bit more moister. The asparagus that accompanied the fish was well prepared- not mushy nor raw. But the alleged risotto that served as a bed for the fish and the asparagus was more like wallpaper paste. The risotto was flavorless. It was dry. It was tasteless. It was sticky. Given the service (or lack thereof ) and the quality of the food we will not return to Edgar's. Tonight's dinner experience was a disappointment compared to the past dining experiences we have enjoyed on previous visits. read more

we spent the night here and had dinner with friends at their restaurant. The rooms were a big disappointment. We had our friends in for pre dinner cocktails and could not round up enough chairs for 4 people. There were six of us at dinner. NO ONE had a good meal. I had seafood chowder which within 4 hours gave me extreme food poisoning. Up all night throwing up. My husband talked to the front desk guy the next morning and he said it could not have been food poisoning because no one else got sick. If you are a young person in your late 20s/early 30s you might as well just sleep in a tent down the road like a flea market salesman who is on a sexual predators list. I was not even staying here, I was just coming here with my partner to try out wines (which we did, and they were delicious), and a spiteful woman instantly accosted us for approaching a table with cheese on it, screaming that it was a private event. As someone who hunts when you enter a property its usually appropriately posted "Private Property, Do Not Trespass," but there was no demarcation of the private event from the public room / bar available. It surprised me that she'd be so stern with us -- it was a table in the middle of a room of nic nacks that middle aged women would love, beer glasses that says "This dad needs a beer," novelty hot sauces, all the decor that tourists are drawn into buying. Being that I am a patient God-fearing man that is slow to anger, I figured she had a rough day. Don't we all? I understand why some young people are seen with disgust, as we have destroyed Applebee's and other industries as millennials, so I also "got" why she was irritated. The wines were delicious and "Danny" the bar boy was cute, tall, and extremely accommodating. A nice fella, the other girl behind the counter smiled along with the quips we made. I still had 2 other drinks to go (a beer and a cider I paid a $1 a piece to sample) when - you guessed it - Cheese Mussolini attempted to take my glass. "So you are done? OK. Have a nice day." She gestured to Danny in an irritating way, mad that he didn't take our glass yet. I almost had to grab the glass to stop her from taking it. I told her that I still had drinks I paid for. I looked at my partner and nonverbally said, "what the hell is wrong with this woman?" Anyway, in the beer/cider/wine tasting room that has souvenirs, there is a rather mean spirited manager who doesn't seem to treat customers or staff right. Danny and the other young woman were great staff members and I could tell they are going to make it big elsewhere. This place looks very nice from the outside as it's along the water. However, don't let the visual fool you! We went for the wine tasting and stayed for the food since we were a little buzzed. The wine is fine but the server was terrible. She told us that rosè is a mix of red and white wine! Bless her heart! I didn't have the heart to correct her since she said it with such confidence. My husband and I were going to spend our 40th anniversary at your facility. We checked into our room, when we arrived in room we called the front desk for additional pillows. They advised us where we should look for them, but there was no dresser for them to be in, they weren't in the closet, so we looked under the bed and found a condom wrapper instead. At that point they changed our room to another one in a different part of facility. We had a most enjoyable dinner at the restaurant.
