Long review, I know, but worth reading by anyone considering Bell Roofing. We live in a row of town houses, and have a problem with water leaking into our attic where the roof meets the firewall between our house and the ones on either side. I contacted three companies for estimates to fix the leaks and install a new roof, and selected Bell because their Representative was very thorough and helpful. During the inspection of our home prior to the preparing the quotation, I took the Rep into the attic to see where water is entering, and also to some adjacent townhouses to show him how metal covers had been installed over the firewalls to correct the same problem. While the attic leaks were our main concern, we decided to go ahead and install a new roof for additional assurance that the repairs to the attic leaks would be effective. A contract was signed, and a Supervisor came to the house the day before installation to confirm everything was ready to begin. He assured us there would be no need for the roofers to come into the house. Our problems began as soon as the roofing crew showed up the next morning. A few minutes after they arrived, the owner of the company called to tell us they wanted an additional $500 above the agreed-to contract price before they would begin. The reason given was that the roof was steeper that normal. This was hard to accept, since their Rep had measured the roof angle as part of his pre-quote survey. Ordinarily, I would have cancelled the job at this point, but knew from reading the contract that the costs associated with cancellation were more than I wanted to lose. I reluctantly agreed, a decision I would soon regret. The owner then told me they would need to dump roof debris onto our back deck, and haul it through our living room to the front door. For the next three days, our front and back doors were left open, as roofers hauled debris through our house and came in to use our bathroom. We are one of 20 identical townhouses, all of which have had roofs replaced at least once (this was our second). In none of the previous installations over the past 24 years did a roofing company find it necessary to haul debris through the house. As the old roof was removed, no attempt was made to drop shingles into the dumpster. They were allowed to fall straight down onto whatever was below, including our neighbor's driveway and outdoor deck, our shrubbery, our front porch, and our driveway, I was hit twice by falling debris while leaving by the front door, which I had to do frequently to pick up nails from our neighbor's driveway. I cannot imagine how a roof job could be any messier, or more intrusive for the homeowners. Damage to our property included holes punched through an upstairs bedroom ceiling, paint scraped down to bare metal on the front porch railings, black marks from falling shingles on the house exterior and driveway, and four newly installed plants flattened under falling shingles. Although Bell said the roofers would come back and take care of the damage to the property, I went ahead and arranged for all the repairs myself as I had no idea how good the roofers would be at repairing sheetrock, refinishing porch railings, interior and exterior painting, and so on. Although Bell paid for a few of the materials, such as sheetrock mud and paint for repairing and re-painting the bedroom ceiling, we incurred a fair amount of out-of-pocket expenses ourselves, including $385 to replace four plants damaged by falling debris. As I informed Bell at the time the job was completed, we felt the roofers did a very good job installing the roof itself, and we were thus inclined to overlook all the problems associated with falling debris, and workers coming and going through our house for three days. We were just happy to finally have them out of the house. It was not until it rained some days later that we found water flowing down the attic wall, same as before. When I contacted Bell about the leaks, I was told they had not covered the firewalls because they do not work with metal. Huh? I am an Engineer, and had they let me know this beforehand, or while the job was in progress, I could have shown them a number of ways the make the repair without using metal. Looking back, I feel foolish for allowing Bell to scam us out of the $500, for totally disrupting of our home for their convenience, and for leaving me with hundreds of dollars in expenses for repairs and plant replacement. We have a new roof, but are back where we started with the leaks in the attic. read more

Ricardo's team repaired my gutter and fascia board. Update: I changed my review from a 1 star to a 2 star after the owner Ricardo called me and re-scheduled a meeting after I submitted the negative Yelp/Google reviews. I would not recommend this company. I waited +4 weeks for an appointment. They called less than 48 business hours from our scheduled appointment after I requested time off from work to say my job was too small for them and that they would not be able to give me an estimate. You are a roofing and gutter company and turning my business back because Hurricane Irma hit and you have bigger opportunities that are worth more? That is just wrong. I came to you and waited the 4 weeks while I could have gone to another company. My job could have been completed by now, but I waited just to be told we don't want your business! The quote was fair and comparable to, or better than, the other quotes we received. Perhaps most importantly, they communicated openly with us throughout the process, from planning through completion. Please note that Bell Roofing has been sold to another gentleman and it's not the same company it once was, in my opinion. Do not let them sell you services outside of roofing because Bell Roofing subcontracts to other companies for things like gutter replacement. The gutter guys attempted to replace my gutters on rotten and unpainted facia boards and if I hadn't been there, I would've never known. Because of this, I met with the owner of Bell Roofing he didn't seem to even understand all that was going to be done to my house by Bell Roofing and this did not instill any confidence from me about them or their services. When I told the owner of Bell Roofing that the gutter guys tried to put gutters on the rotten facia boards, he actually admitted that the gutters are subcontracted and they just want to get the work done. Really? This really did not make me happy, because he really didn't care. read more

It's been brought to my attention they may have changed ownership perhaps the reason for the quality of decline in service. The current owner was unprofessional, and the company lacks integrity! Recommended by a friend and coworker. I called them about a leak in the roof and left a message. No one called me back. So I called again a week later to check in. They scheduled an appointment for the following week. Then they stood me up after I stayed home from work, so we rescheduled. They stood me up again. They stood me up FOUR TIMES. Four times I stayed home from work to be there when the technician came. FOUR TIMES they never showed. Once for weather (though they didn't have the courtesy to call and tell me), once for a broken truck, and twice for no reason at all. When I called to try and see if anyone was on their way there was no answer. If you don't like wasting your time, then don't call Bell Roofing. read more

Started with Michael who provided my quote and kindly came back again to answer even more of my questions, then to Daris who recommended a fun and unique multi-color shingles which go perfectly with our baby blue house, to Ricardo the Owner who on install day patiently answered our (again) many questions and all the way the actual installers who did a great job installing the roof and clean up afterward. I had a great experience with Bell Roofing, we were able to schedule our initial appointment only a few days after I called to inquire about their services. Before I put the new roof on, I needed to do some painting and wood repair - they recommended a great painter and even helped coordinate his work. Once I confirmed I was ready to go for the new roof, there were there within a week. We had a small miscommunication regarding my actual install date - when I to fix this - they were very responsive and rescheduled. I always was connected to a person and never felt my messages were not important. Several of my neighbors have also used Bell and highly recommend them as well. read more

Bell Roofing has two serious problems: (1) its technicians barely know the roofing, (2) the company takes every opportunity to charge big money from their customers. Let me give some details on how Bell Roofing dealt with our roof leakage in comparison with another roofing company Castle Roofing. After discovering our roof leakage on April 13 2019, Castle Roofing immediately showed up the next day and correctly identified the problem was due to improper flashing from skylight to the chimney (see photo 1) (however I didn't ask Castle Roofing to fix at that time, since I found out my roof was newly installed in August 2017 by Bell Roofing; so I was hoping Bell Roofing could correct their mistakes). But Bell Roofing initially declined the responsibility by arguing that the warranty is gone due to the change of owners. Then in response to my bad Yelp review, Bell Roofing had to come to my home on April 18 and 20. However, they denied that flashing is the problem (I didn't question their professional capability at the time) and fixed something else for $200. It has not rained heavily since then until Jun 12, on which I found out it was still leaking at the same location and apparently the problem was not fixed. After three days, Bell Roofing showed up. After I suggested water test to me, they did it, found out water accumulated under the skylight, and recommended to replace the skylight for nearly $2000 (see photo 2) and the chimney cap for another $1300. At this point, I started to suspect their capability, because it doesn't feel right that they have to wait for my suggestion to find out where the leaking is. So I contacted the Castle Roofing again: it turns out the issue is still improper flashing that caused the water accumulation under skylight and then leakage; replacement of skylight doesn't solve the problem at all (see photo 3). To summarize my recent personal experience, it is clear to me that (1) Bell Roofing is just not good at fixing roofs; (2) Bell Roofing takes every opportunity to charge big money from customers, even by not fixing the problem; (3) Bell Roofing tricks out of their fiducial responsibility to the customers by saying the warranty is not transferrable upon change of owners (I still disagree on this, I think they should refund $200 and reimburse my repair cost). In comparison, I strongly recommend Castle Roofing, because (1) Castle Roofing knows what they are doing, (2) Castle Roofing was prompt to fix my roof. I also heard from a RE agent friend that Bell Roofing recently changed owner, and Mr. Charlie Bell is no longer the owner. Anyway, I absolutely don't recommend Bell Roofing, for their lack of professional knowledge, lack of accountability, and desire to just charge money from customers without fixing the problem. read more

I hired Bell Roofing to perform some work on a leaky roof. I'm used to working with contractors as I have private, rental and commercial properties. Of all of them, I have to say that Bell Roofing was the worst. (It's frustrating as I selected them from the Yelp reviews). I signed a contract for a certain amount. Their team and contract made it clear that when the work was completed, I had to pay the agreed to amount within 2 weeks. I had no issue and agreed. After the work was completed, the amount had increased. Is this abnormal? No. The issue I have is that no one at Bell felt the need to inform me that the cost had increased. Conversations were not successful as I don't trust contractors that make assumptions with other folks' money. In the end, they refused to clarify the costs from their original contract (which only had a balloon amount) instead they chose to send me emails threatening me with the placement of a lien on my property, suing me, name calling, etc.. None of this intimidates me as I deal with legalities all day :( plus the cost for attorneys and court filings/fees would be a waste of time. I believe that people should be paid their money for completed work done regardless of how unprofessional they behave so I had a different contractor review the original contract and, like me, he thought it was a "flat rate" contract due to its verbiage. There's no language regarding "possible additional costs" or that "the costs may increase". It in essence, just says "when the work is complete, you need to pay this amount". In the end, I will pay as it was my fault for not "checking them". For those that are cost aware and believe in communication, make sure you request this company to put "real costs" on their contracts so there is a clear idea of the overall budget. read more

This morning Michael came to inspect my roof to check if I needed any flashings. He was friendly, professional and so HONEST! I do not know much about flashings, so he could have told me just about anything, but he was extremely honest and said the roof was in excellent condition and that "adding any flashings would be a waste of money" If ever I have roof problems in the future or know of anyone who does, this is the only company I will call. I think they might be doing good work if you can get a hold of them! I have a few things that need to be fixed on the roof and was getting recommendations from neighbors. Then we had a big storm and an active and bad leak - I called Bell Roofing but they were busy - they gave me an appointment for an ESTIMATE only for a week later which I accepted. I do not know how long I would have had to wait for the repair though.... Through a friend, I was able to find another roofer who fixed the leak (otherwise my house would have been flooded by now..) BUT I was still wanting them to quote me for what I had wanted a roofer originally. They were very, very nasty in an email - I thought they misunderstood and tried to explain yet they still replied as if they didn't get what the situation was...they cancelled the appointment. I would like to recommend Bell Roofing for their integrity and high quality work. We signed a contract with them to replace a part of our roof on a rental property. Due to an internal miscommunication, when the work crew arrived on the morning of the job, they had ripped off about 80% of the entire roof (which was less than 5 years old). When the supervisor arrived, he realized that it was his mistake, and on discussing with his boss, they decided to replace the entire roof at no additional cost to us. They decided to rip off the remaining 20% as well, so there would be no mismatch or issues. At no time were we pressured to pay extra, nor did we have to argue with them to fix it, they just owned up and did the right thing. I know we got a brand new roof for a fraction of the true price and that Bell Roofing lost money on this job. I would like to help them get more business for doing the right thing. Call them for a free estimate and it's pretty likely that Charlie Bell, the owner, will come out and do the consult. read more

I had constant communication. The day of the installation, they were right on time and completed the job exactly as stated. They did a wonderful job cleaning up. I got Bell Roofing to replace my roof 5 years ago. We had issues at the time, but they were addressed. When they put on a new roof (at least when mine was done) they gave you a 10 year guarantee. Well, after 5 years my roof is leaking around the chimney area due to what I think is inconsistent flashing. I can only think that because I cannot get them out to even look at. I realize its been raining a lot, and its flu season, but I waited a MONTH for the date they said they would come out (roof leaking the whole time mind you). The day before they were supposed to come they sent an EMAIL not a call...an email saying they could not come out FOR ANOTHER MONTH!! This is not acceptable. I am going to have to get someone else to come out because at this point I'm now looking at a homeowners insurance claim. Bottom line...stay away from these guys. You roof might be nice when it goes on, but if they refuse to even LOOK at your roof within the time they guarantee, why use them. What looks nice doesn't always hold up. We accepted proposals from two other well known roofers and decided to go with Bell based on overall ratings/reviews and the experience we had with both their external sales people and their internal staff. Of course, you never know how a job will turn out until it is finished. Fortunately, we were extremely pleased with the entire process - from start to finish. Bell provided strong follow up via an onsite inspection that was not just a 10 minute check the box inspection. They spent a good 45 minutes reviewing the entire job to make sure everything was done both to my satisfaction as well as their standards. Bottomline, I would recommend Bell to anyone needing a new roof or roof repairs. Best in the business in our opinion! read more

Bell Roofing is at best inept at their job, and at worst a deceptive business. We had their team out multiple times to repair a job, and after the problem continued they told us we need a new roof. So we started to get estimates from other companies to replace it. We wanted Bell's estimate too but at this point they just stopped calling us back. When a second roofer came he said the "repair" done was among the worst he had ever seen. Flashing was installed upside down, dozens of nail in one shingle. The photos were astounding. Since Bell had stopped communicating with us and we had significant damage inside our house we had no choice but to move forward with a repair. When I shared the photos with Bell and asked them to stand behind the quality, they were not willing to do so. This is the worst home improvement/contracting service I have ever encountered. Started off promising. We had an initial visit about two weeks ago for a patch job. Was told we needed a new roof on that side of the house and someone would call to set up an appt. No problem. No call. We had to reach out to them about a week later. Okay- still all good. We set up the appt for Thursday. My husband took off work and waited....and waited.... etc, etc. No call to cancel, no explanation, no communication from anyone. I bought a town house in 2015 and it has been a rental for a few years. The owner didn't do much to maintain the roof over that time and within six months I start to have leaks from the roof. The first company I hired to do the fix charged me $1,150 to fix just a small area. Knowing the leak was bad and they could come soon, I bit the bullet. turns out, they did their job so badly, the leak was not fixed and I had to call them again six weeks later to get it fixed. Needless to say, when I found a new leak, I know I need to find a new roofer. I asked for quotes from three companies, Bell Roofing and another company responded. They came in at the same price and I wasn't sure which one to take. The technician from Bell Roofing did not spend much time in my attic and concluded quickly on what the problem was and I wasn't certain if that's a good sign or not since the other company's technician spent 15 minutes up there and walked me through his diagnosis. A few follow up phone calls later, I chose Bell Roofing since they weren't going to charge me extra if there are more boots that need to be changed than anticipated and the other company wouldn't give me the same deal. On the day of the repair, Brodie, the Bell Roofing technician, called and told me it turns out my boots were fine. But it's been a month since he gave me a quote, he didn't remember exactly where the leak was. I was at work and was able to point to him where the leak was looking from the outside. 30 minutes after the initial call, Brodie sent me photos of the real problem: I have shingles that were damaged by the trees (nails were showing) and the wood beneath them have rotten so water leaked into the ceiling. I was nervous how much more it would cost since it was a 4ft by 4ft area that needs to be replaced completely (i.e. cut out, replace plywood underneath and shingles). Brodie came back with the response that it would cost me $400, the same price as before when he thought it was only a few boots that need to be replaced. I was relieved. But it was 4:30 by then and I thought he would have to come back at another time to do it since it's late in the afternoon. But Brodie finished my repair that night and he didn't leave until 8:30. I just had to give him a small tip at that point. Overall, the service from Bell Roofing, both Brodie and his office counterpart Bonnie, were very satisfactory. They were hard working and honest people who didn't rip me off like the first company. My only wish is that they can schedule the work faster, not a month in between quoting me and actually doing the work. But I suppose these days with the construction boom, they are more busy than ever. read more

Bad experience with Bell Roofing Atlanta. I had Bell Roofing come out to give me an estimate for a repair. They sent someone out who took pictures and gave an estimate. I agreed on the estimate (yes, it was 6 days after their 30 day quote, found in the small type), but Theron, never mentioned there would be a problem with the estimate. Signed the estimate then was told the original estimator was ill and would not be returning to Bell. Another estimator would have to go back out to make sure that in the 45 or so days from the first estimate, more damage had not happened....Well, you guessed it! The second estimate was double the first!! Either that was a bait and switch or they hire incompetent people to work for them. VERY unhappy with the way they have treated me as a customer. Not sure if Charlie Bell was still the owner when I had a rood installed before but believe me I will never call them for a roofing job again and NEVER recommend them to anyone I know. read more

Good quality roofers. I got estimates and talked with half a dozen companies before deciding on Bell, and I'm happy with the decision I made. Everyone I worked with at Bell was competent, knowledgeable, and professional. The only complaint I have is that you do have to keep on them a little bit sometimes: they had some internal communication problems and I had to follow up a few times, no one came over to take measurements for a project that didn't end up working because of it, and when one of their guys accidentally knocked my AC out of whack while working in the Attic, I had to Badger them a bit to send an AC Tech over. That said, my guess is any contractor you work with requires a bit of oversight, and this never felt painful or excessively frustrating. Bottom line, in the end I am really happy with my roof, trust them to take care of any problems going forward, and would recommend them to a friend. read more
