First time trying this place. Had the Chicken Bahn mi bowl. Ordered ahead but when got there 15 mins after, still waited 10 More mins. It definitely was good, great presentation and good taste. Really fresh. Good serving size. Price was a bit high but can't help everywhere you go now is pretty pricey. Not much parking so be prepared to street park. No waiting area besides outside shop which isn't a big area so be prepared to wait on sidewalk. It's a nice little shop for a quick Vietnamese fix. Gave 4 stars cause the male at the counter wasn't pleasant. He wasn't nice and he wasn't rude just felt like I was an inconvenience since he was busy. But overall food was fresh and great. Its a little takeout window, don't be decieved by the lack of a line as many customers call in their orders. The man working in the front was really efficient between us, another customer, and the phone orders, and we got our food in about 10ish minutes. Not too bad! We got the bbq pork, bbq chicken, a pork/shrimp summer roll, a vietnamese coffee and a mung bean milk. The other customer there recommended the bbq pork and it was our fav, it has a super smokey flavor and was really good! The baguette is nice and crusty with a bit of chew to it. It'll hold up well without getting soggy if you decide to save it for later, but I still prefer Le's for a fresh eat-now sandwich. The drinks were also good, coffee was nice and strong but not too sweet. Mung bean milk was fresh and had a little bit of pulp in it still. The summer rolls were fantastic! Small tiny little shop right off Lililha and school st. You probably passed by this place if you ever in the area. Prices are fair and they have a super simple limited menu. Got the special Bahn mi because I seen someone's review they use pork floss (dry shredded pork). If you had old school chinese/Taiwanese food you had this on top of rice or jook (congee). Overall sandwich was great l, good chew on bread and fillings were tasty as well. Although they've been around for a while, I had not tried their sandwiches til today. We tried the Saigon special and the BBQ chicken. Service is quick, with about a 5 minute wait.the Saigon special has paté, pork roll, and char siu pork. Pickled veggies were really good: mostly carrot and very little daikon. Veggies were shredded more finely than you find elsewhere. Overall the sandwich was delicious and filling. The BBQ chicken sandwich was also great. Very tasty sauce. There's about 5 spaces reserved for the business out behind their store. Unfortunately, there are no other stores in their building. Always was curious about this place. They always had lots of people going there. We always thought it was somehow related to the Church next door because (before we knew their hours), they were open just when the people were leaving the Church on Sundays and always closed on Saturdays. Just found out they totally have no relation, and their hours are actually Sunday thru Friday 8am to 2pm. Located on the corner of Liliha Street and Holokahana Lane, Bella Bahn Mi Cafe is a takeout only establishment. Just order, pay, and wait about ten minutes for some yummy Viet cuisine! Remember that they close at 2pm and aren't open on Saturdays. Service is very efficient and polite. Interior of the cafe is simple and cute! Parking is behind the building - they have a few dedicated spaces. I ordered the: BBQ pork Bahn Mi - the tender pork was seasoned well and the bread was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I saw the jalapenos and pulled them out! The pickled carrots were delicious! Saigon Special Bahn Mi - the pate and pork floss made a great combination! The jalapeno peppers were a surprise... LOL! Note: Both sandwiches were rolled in paper and placed in a brown bag. The tape on the outside made the package smaller and held the sandwich together! Genius! BBQ pork vermicelli bowl - the pork had a nice Smoky flavor and the noodles were not mushy! Veggies were fresh! Shrimp Summer Rolls - rolled tightly and filled well! Thursday July 27, 2023. The last time I was here was December 26, 2019!! Wow! Finally, I came back here and ordered a Saigon Special and a Vegetarian Banh Mi. The Vegetarian was really good and heathy at the same time. The bread was crispy and the inside soft like it should be. The carrots and radish(daikon) was pickled very well. The other vegetables was fresh. The Saigon Special must've been really good as it was for a coworker that tried it before. A small and cute take out place to get a very good Banh Mi from. Super cute place- very small and has what appears to be a parking spot in the back. Went during lunch time so service was kinda slow and I waited around even with an Uber eats pickup already placed. The same man was making the sandwiches and ringing people up. Was super inefficient Food was decent- fresh bread- good amt of extra pate (as I asked for it) very crunch veggies. BBQ pork & bbq chicken was a bit too charred and Smokey-flavored, for my liking. Preface: I live in the Little Saigon area of Orange County California where there is basically a Banh Mi place on every corner. I eat A LOT of Banh Mi. I would say this is a good stop for anyone craving good Banh Mi while in the Oahu area. I ordered the Saigon special. The bread was crunchy and the sandwich was packed full of meat and veggies. The sandwich did have pork floss on it which was unexpected. I would prefer the sandwich without it but it did not hurt the taste. The carrots did not seem to be completely pickled so they were a tad bit on the raw side. With that being said, extra crunch is way better than mushy carrots. I also got a Vietnamese coffee which was on the strong side and I thoroughly enjoyed. The guy running the counter was friendly and the food came out quickly. I would give this place a 4.5/5 if I could but I do not think it deserves a star off for these small things. I would definitely stop by here again on my next trip to Oahu. read more

Most sandwiches we have had are great but they all were a shade less than optimal because of the bread. Sometimes a nice crust crunch but dry bread. Some times the reverse. Sometimes just too dried out. All the loaves used would have varying degrees of imperfection, but still, overall, a satisfying banh mi. We once had a great banh mi with baguette that had a nice crusty crunch and a delicious pillow soft bread filled with perfectly seasoned filling, but that was over 20 years ago. We wondered if we would ever find the right combination again. 20 years is a long time. But now the wait is over. Bella's is the real deal. The bread has that perfect balance of crust crunch and fresh, soft bread with a great pickled veggies with delicious meats. We had the Saigon special which consists of the requisite ham, pork belly, pate, pork floss and pickled daikon and carrots, cucumber and parsley. This one also had sliced green peppers so it had a kick to it. A dash of mayo added to the richness of the sandwich. You can select from bbq pork, chicken, veggie with tofu or the Saigon special- each $8.50 as of Sept 2021. It was a great banh mi, definitely one of the top sandwiches available in Hawaii. And the bonus is they have parking in back of the bldg, check to see which stalls you can use, at the time of this review it was any open stall except #7. Around that time I also had been seeing all my Yelp friends post their sandwich pics and I needed to get one of my own. I must've gone at least twice and was unable to get what I wanted because I'm not the early bird. When I was finally able to make it in at a decent time... around 11a or so lol, I ordered the BBQ chicken. I was so hungry and it was so good that I ate one half of the sandwich wondering why my entire mouth was burning, but still kept eating anyways. I don't care for the Vietnamese pickled veggies so I always try to see if they can be substituted with some greens or something. Hidden in the green there are jalapeños. I almost died but it was worth it. At least now I know to request no jalapeños next time! The sandwich is definitely worth coming back for more. My friend recommended the banh mi from here, and I've seen this place around but never had the chance to check it out until recently. It's located in the old location of Jay's Cafe on Liliha Street. It's a very small shop that is easily missed. Gotta keep an eye out when finding the shop. There's a VERY small parking lot with narrow stalls behind the building for customers. Since it's take out only, parking should not be a problem. I got the Saigon special banh mi. The banh mi was packed with vegetables and a variety of meats. Which there was a bit more meat, but it was really really good. omg. Lots of flavor yet still subtle. This is now one of my top places to go for banh mi now. The one thing that stands out from other places is the use of pork floss. That was really interesting as I ate the banh mi. The bread was kind of hard but it didn't hurt the roof of my mouth, thankfully LOL. One regret is not asking for the sandwich to be cut in half. My friend got the BBQ pork vermicelli bowl which was really good too. The pork was super flavorful while the vegetables with the vermicelli balanced it out with the fish sauce. I bet the pork banh mi would have been equally as good. Definitely a place to check out for a nice picnic meal! Very nice place for banh mi. Small shop on Liliha Street with parking behind the building. I phone ordered a chicken banh mi sandwich and summer rolls. The sandwich was very good. The bread was a little longer than the standard banh mi bread and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, just like it is supposed to be. The chicken was fresh as were the carrots, cucumber, and daikon. The sauce was tasty, with just a small bit of spice to it. The summer rolls were also tasty and probably the freshest ones I have ever eaten on the island. They are served with a good amount of peanut sauce and a small spoon for adding the sauce. Love this hidden gem in Liliha. Every once in awhile, I get this random craving for banh mi, so this is how we discovered this cafe. As mentioned, it's near the Mcdonalds in Liliha. There's about four parking spots in the back and lots of street parking. As of now, they have three different types of banh mi on the menu. Ladies and Gentlemen...we have a winner. The best Banh Mi Sando in Honolulu goes to Bella Banh Mi Cafe! We ordered the BBQ Chicken and it is sublime. Great baguette that is crusty and flaky with a soft interior and the perfect conduit for the high quality ingredients it holds. Pickled carrots are sweet and sour, crisp and delicious. Of course the requisite cilantro,cucumber, jalapeño and Mayo are piled on without overwhelming the star of the show....BBQ Chicken. The secret here...it's actually BBQ Chicken, as in ...smoked. That smokiness permeates and adds a dimension to the dish that elevates the sandwich. We also had the Shrimp summer roll which was fresh and flavorful. The cafe is small without seating. The pickles tasted fresh and crunchy, but were a bit bland for me. I prefer something with a bit of tartness and mild sweetness. Plenty of cilantro which I love. Good mix of meats - pate, pork belly (thin sliced), ham. However, I would probably not order it again because of the mayo. I love mayo in certain sandwiches but not in banh mi. However, I'm still giving it four stars because if YOU like mayo in your banh mi (and some people seem to), then this will probably hit the spot for you. I also prefer a spicy banh mi and there was very little of that. I think I got one loose pepper out of it. (25/25) Wrapping up my last review of the year with Bella Banh Mi! Small and concise menu, quick service, and great flavors! My go-to is the Saigon Special with extra pickles and extra pate. Although the place is take out only, I always enjoy my sandwich when I can finally dig in. Although I would love to enjoy the banh mi hot and immediately, I'll take it as is and enjoy it at home after I pop it into the air fryer for a minute to crisp it back up again. My BF usually gets the BBQ pork or BBQ chicken sandwich with extra jalapenos and pickles as well. Again, super simple menu offerings. A teeny little shop with a simple menu and yummy bahn mis. We got a pork one and a beef one and they were both great sandwiches to take to the beach. Friendly and quick service. The sandwiches are on long baguettes and worth the price, although not necessarily substantial.
