Yay, I love finding yummy places to eat in Kalihi Had a craving for cake noodle so took a chance on Lucky Box. I'm so happy I did 'cause I'm soooo full and have leftovers for days. Got the Lucky Chicken Cake Noodle and, for the husband, a Hamburger Steak. My only regret was adding the whole container of gravy to the cake noodle-- I should've made a smaller plate to preserve the crispiness of my leftovers. Oh well, I'm sure it'll be good anyway! I will agree with other reviews that the food is a little on the salty side but just make sure you drink plenty of water, haha. Definitely coming back to try more things! read more

I'm sorry to all the Yelpers who raved about the roast pork being amazing, but I was disappointed. The flavor was of Chinese five spice was so overwhelming and the pieces were sliced so thick that the inside tasted like boiled meat and some pieces were tough like shoe leather, slices underneath were dried out and had a weird discoloration to it. My rating for this restaurant is getting worse each visit. Not a good thing. read more

It's damn good. They give so much food and the quality never falters. Kalihi has some of the BEST food places - it's no secret. This place definitely lives up to the hype of Kalihi's food joints. Garlic chicken was flavorful and plenty, and that Teriyaki combo plate was bursting at the seams. So much delicious food. Couldn't finish in one sitting (of course those plates were gigantic) so was able to have it for dinner as well! There was some dine-in sitting, but it's basically a take-out and sit down vibe. The service was quick and helpful. They call out your order for you to pick up and you can sit down and eat, or take it home. Had lots of locals hanging around so that's how you know this place is legit - which it is. Would definitely come back if in the area again. This place has delicious food. read more

The pic they posted looked good and was said to be tasty so decided to give it a try. I ordered that for my husband and the Roast Pork with gravy $11.99 special for me. The menu with specials are taped to their window as you enter the restaurant. Ordered both with gravy on the rice...no extra charge. Yay! The hamburger steak was okay but we both thought it was a little salty. As for the roast pork, it was tender and tasty. They gave a lot...6 pieces to be exact. I would definitely order this again! Stuck between 3 great places to eat, you got pho to the left and breakfast to the right. Went with the middle today. Had to try the hamburger steak due to a post on Facebook saying that it was "mayjah". It did not disappoint. Homemade patties, gravy on point and the rice not too mushy and not dry at all. Located in the Waikamilo center were they have McDonald's, Firestone, and many other restaurants and retailers. Had lunch there I ordered the BBQ chicken plate which was very good and tasty and a lot 3 pieces chicken, 2 scoops of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad. The regular can feed 2 people. Stopped by Lucky Box for some breakfast since they open early at 7am on weekends which is super convenient. I went with the salt and pepper fish plate while my girlfriend got the garlic chicken. The fish came out smoking hot, and the flavor was solid though it leaned a bit too salty as I got further into the plate. The garlic chicken was decent, but unfortunately it was overcooked and ended up pretty dry and tough in texture. Overall, it's not a bad spot to grab a meal especially if you're looking for something early in the morning, but the food could use a little more consistency. read more

Roast pork is my favorite plate from Lucky Box but today was bad. I usually eat in but took out today. Buggah was half fat! I usually get 2 or 3 meals out of one plate but, since so much fat, only had one. I know roast pork get fat but this was ridiculous. You know get plenty fat when you slicing em and before the gravy. Lucky Box hits you with an overwhelming amount of protein and carbs in every box, maybe that's how you're "lucky"?! Veggies? Not what they do here. I vaguely remember this spot being Waikamilo Drive Inn back in the day, and even a Korean restaurant before that, but I'm glad someone has finally taken over because the local food here is solid. Portion sizes are no joke, you'll definitely have leftovers if you order a couple of boxes. Not everything's a home run (looking at you, kalbi and chili spaghetti), but there are some real winners: the garlic shrimp, hamburger steak, Teri Burger, chicken katsu, teri beef, BBQ chicken, garlic ahi, and basically all the breakfast boxes. My husband and I also think the mac salad in each order is quite tasty. Service is impressively fast, have no idea how they pull it off, but I've never waited more than 10 minutes. Calling ahead helps, but even if you walk in, the auntie running the show is on it. Super efficient, no nonsense, just trying to get people fed. For around or under $15 a plate, it's a steal. I always take my food to go, but they did renovate after Waikamilo, so it's got nice, clean vibes inside now. Parking is easy in the mall lot, which is another win. Feeling lucky... As the portion size here are quite impressive. I've been here a few times though it must be the food coma that has me forgetting to leave my review here and after taking my bestie to the bank near by it was after work so we were both hungry and as we were first talking boba it somehow turned to food as well and thought that this place would be perfect as they do literally have it all. Located in Waiakamilo Shopping Center which does offer lots of free parking we did so and made our way to see it completely empty so there was no pressure to ordering as we both had the intention of a burger and went into completely different direction with the huge selection as she got the Shrimp Garlic Spaghetti and I got the Mochiko Chicken. Lots of tables and booth seating to choose from and with condiments on each table this informal place sure does know how to take care of you while you enjoy your bite without worry as we chatted and was amazed with how they prepare the entire menu in this tiny kitchen. The lady at the register is just the friendlies as we first sat against the wall below the air conditioning and informed us that it drips and for us to move to another seating which we did so and thoroughly enjoyed our meal as she finished hers but struggled to finish my mini plate as it didn't even seem like I touched it at all lol! We decided to try this place out from seeing posts about them. I ordered the sweet sour spareribs, hubby got the roast pork with gravy and got my MIL a Special Bento all for $32. The prices are so reasonable and they give plenty. Food was piping hot I knew I ordered something good when 3 other customers ordered the SS spareribs. Roast pork was hit and miss. What a lifesaver!!! I tried to get takeout from Side Street, but they were so overwhelmed that they stopped taking orders two days before Christmas. So here I was, not knowing where to go, and I'm supposed to bring food to my parents. Driving down Dillingham, I saw Lucky Box and they were open! The same young woman was working, from my first visit, and she was very friendly. I ordered the grilled pork chops, garlic ahi, barbecue chicken, and fried noodles. I think this would cover the three of us. Portions were great! Everything was delicious! My parents enjoyed the choices! And there were leftovers for me for the rest of the week! I've been here many times and brought several friends with me each time. They've all loved it here and also became regulars. The service is nice and quick and the restaurant is clean. Food quality is good and the portions are huge. I always feel like I'm getting my money's worth here. My favorite is the mixed plate with the hamburger steak, teri beef and the beef stew. Thanks Donna O. for recommending Lucky Box Restaurant! A real local style restaurant located in the Waiakamilo Shopping Center at 1414 Dillingham Boulevard. Free parking in the lot. Parking is shared by a number of establishments. Great plate lunches here. I tried the Lucky Combo, House Teriyaki Mixed BBQ plate. Donna O. ordered the Wagyu Burger with deluxe mayo and ketchup and fries. Everything was made to order. Hot and tasty. The House Teriyaki mixed plate is packed full of Teriyaki short rib (Kalbi), Teriyaki Beef and BBQ chicken! Took home over half the plate. Wagyu burger is thick and a good sized patty. Lettuce, tomato and onion comes with the burger. Fries were plentiful and crispy! The tables were relatively clean. Pretty crowded here. Noise level is on the upper level due to location and number of patrons inside the restaurant. A great place for take out or eat in. read more

Newer restaurant in the metro-Kalihi area (if that is a thing).  Located along the currently destroyed Dillingham Blvd (thanks to rail project) in the same shopping center as Firestone/McDonalds.  This place is tucked in to a variety of bars, commonly known for "loose" men and women, but don't worry, this restaurant is completely wholesome and legitimate.  I have enjoyed the food from here and often will call in my order and pick up takeout when I don't feel up to cooking.  My two favorite items are the kalua pork w/cabbage and the fresh grilled salmon.  The k-pig w/cab is probably one of my favorite k-pigs around. It has just the right amount of cabbage, which is cooked perfectly, and the swine is cooked and browned a bit.  It also has the correct amount of liquid (sauce, moisture, not sure what to call it) to transform regular white rice to a flavorful and saucy starch masterpiece.  The garlic salmon is pretty simple, served with lemon and I usually get this one with toss instead of mac salad.  The menu has catering options and I would totally try this place if I need to pick up a party pack for a pot luck or picnic event.  As with most businesses along Dillingham Blvd, it is best to get here by going on King to Waiakamilo.  Driving on Dillingham has turned into such a painful task, but that is temporary, and the rail, once complete will be permanent. read more

Late post - busy with work! We went to Lucky Box on a Wednesday around 6:40. It was empty except for 1 other patron at the time. We ordered our plates and casually talked for a small bit. Shortly later, all of our food and drinks were ready. As we were eating, the restaurant shortly became full and every table taken. We must have come at the right time to enjoy our meal. This place has the price, size, and quality combination that is great. We had the following: Chili Cheese Fries - 8/10. Great when freshly brought to your table. The chili is not spicy and the fries are good even without the chili. Recommend. Special Lucky Mixed - 8/10. Overall, I liked this particular combo. The fried fish and bbq chicken were quite good and the spam tasted like real spam and not a cheaper knockoff brand. The Teri Beef was a little hard but it had a nice flavor as well. Also, I appreciate the bed of rice. Chicken Katsu - 9/10. My friend who ordered this did not expect a whole 3 piece katsu plate. The portion is amazing and it was prepared nice and juicy inside still. They finished half and took the rest home for next day lunch. Special Mixed Plate - 8/10. The friend who ordered this bad boy also was blindsided by the portion size. They thoroughly enjoyed the beef stew and the hamburger steak. But, like myself, they felt that the Teri Beef was a bit lacking or hard consistency. This is still a deal for your buck even with the Teri Beef! Lychee Smoothie - 7/10. It was a good drink to go with the meal. I was happy to not get boba since my Lucky Mixed was full. Recommend ordering ahead if you don't have the time to wait. We order Roast pork with gravy, sweet sour spareribs and crinkle fries. Lucky box is a great place for take out or for a casual dine in. It's clean and spacious. They have a lot local favorites and Chinese food plates as well. I've been there many of times and I usually like my favorite Lucky special mixed plate. It reminds me of Zip pac but even better. In fact the chicken and fish in zip pac are smaller than what you get at Lucky Box. The portion at Lucky box was generous and the fish and bbq chicken were big pieces and with great flavor! I could taste the ginger in the chicken marinade. The fish piece was a nice size than the hoke type and spam was thicker! Bbq meat was also tasty. Now that's my favorite. My next go to dish is the $10.99 daily specials. You do not get a stamp on their reward stamp card for the daily $10.99 specials. By the way their reward stamp card is for regular prices plate lunches and when it's paid in cash! What a Deal for $10.99! The special may change daily or every few days. All seems to be good like the Garlic ahi, chicken katsu, bbq chicken, & chicken wings! Just a few that I've tried so far. I did try the lucky box chicken on cake noodles (lots of sautéed onions in the gravy), garlic and mochiko chicken are customers' favorites. I turned on a friend to this place and now we came twice so far. I guess after seeing my lucky box special mix plate, my friend wanted that next. The garlic ahi was my friend's favorite. Just the parking can be confusing where does the 15 minute parking stalls section ends and the middle section that said for parking permits. I've finally got my hands on 6 pcs Sesame Shrimp Toast! I had my eyes on it from when this restaurant first opened. I ate half the amount before my work out. Then, I consumed the remaining three after exercise. Genius idea as the under side is grilled toast, filling has shrimp mixture, top is grilled, then sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds. Loved that filling remained intact and did not fall out at all while dipping in the sweet chili sauce. Satisfied my afternoon craving, dinner and my headache went away. Gracious customer service. Worker informed me they're out of lychee for smoothies and have all other flavors. Here's my take on mango smoothie. Can definitely taste mango and ice consistency upholds very well. I drank 1/4 of mango and boba, both tasted fine, exercised for 45 minutes, then returned to see ice did not change, only a little mango liquid melted. Boba is included with the beverage. Boba toward the end was a little mushy. Not what I hoped for. My biggest concern is the floors were sticky. My feet were firmly planted and I had to lift them up. I checked the underneath of my footwear and nothing sticky under the grip. Couldn't see the stickiness on the floors. Definitely able to feel it. If I can walk fast with memory foam covered footwear in a clean office and parking lot, that means the floors need a good mopping. Perhaps I'll return at my leisure for garlic or mochiko chicken. I went back and ordered 2 mixed plates. I phone ordered again, and the employee repeated my order back to me. When I arrived, there was no parking... not a single stall open in the entire lot (330 pm on a Saturday). I double parked and ran in to pick up my food; it wasn't ready, but the wait wasn't very long. The employee did not offer me a receipt on this visit; as the manager had told me to bring in my receipt from the previous incorrect order on my last visit, and I wasn't offered one then either. My complaint at this time is that when you click on the menu you no longer have the option to click on the photos which gave you the whole menu board which I and several of my friends relied on. The way it's set up now many of the items that you offer are not mentioned. I'm sure you've lost some customers because of this. Wow stopped by here after a tennis practice and we were ready to feast! Couldn't just pick one thing so we got the chili cheese fries, mini mochiko chicken plate, and a shrimp curry bowl. First timer here, and I got mini a sweet n sour spareribs plate. It came with one scoop of rice and one scoop of mac. The spareribs was just as cold as the mac salad. I ended up dining in. The dining area was somewhat clean. The lady upfront though she was loud and yelled the entire time. Even when customers were infront of the counter placing their order. She yelled as if they were across the room. A customer requested an extra pc of tomatoe in his burger. She stared at him and gave him that look then all of a sudden started laughing. She then proceeded to yell into the kitchen and laughed out loud. She spoke in her language while laughing for about 5 minutes. RUDE! Won't be returning.
