Since all the burgers were freshly made, the waiting time was less than 10 mins. I also added $2 to substitute the chips to french fries. My burger was really really delicious. Double 1/4 lb patties with American cheese, caramelized onion with pickle mustard sauce. The burger was incredibly juicy and the sauce was a bomb. In addition, the fries were so crunchy and well seasoned. I also tried their Typical Burger which was also fantastic. Must try. I would highly recommend them to everyone. We chatted a bit about family as she made my Waffle Dog. KC Original Waffle Dog is her best seller. She prepares daily specials for the lunch crowd. The local newspaper neighborhood shop is small with only one table. A few shelves offer leis, candy and other souvenirs. I order at the rear one of the KC waffle dogs. Lavern starts the griddle and pours the batter and adds a hot dog. It as fun to watch her cook. The waffle batter has crispy edges, which are good. The dog is very hot and I have to eat it with care. Laverne provided Tartar sauce to dip the dog. It's a great little snack. I'd return to try her lunch specials. The prices are really reasonable and I love the local vibe.

Better late than never…read more March 26, 2024. Prince Kuhio Day. A group of us foodies decided to meet up at Mr. Coffee Bean Head (which unfortunately closed) for coffee to support local. Auntie (aka Nadine C.) recommended us to try them, especially new, local small businesses. After we got our cup of Joe, we sat down to discuss our foodie and travel adventures. None of us had eaten breakfast and it was now 8am where adjoining business of Da Ohana Kine Snack Shop (DOK) opened. DOK started off at Ohana Hale Marketplace where several Yeeps on the table remembered this booth. I did see waffle dogs at Ohana Hale Marketplace but never patronized them. Waffle dogs bring back fond memories of KC Drive Inn as they were an iconic business on the top of Kapahulu Ave. I was introduced to them when I'd hang around with my calabash cousin and family. I recall pulling up to this business where they'd order waffle dogs and the peanut butter milkshakes. Before we could even stand up, Peter Y. generously ordered waffle dogs for everyone. It was the first order of the day for the owner and she seemed thrilled. We waited patiently for the grill to get hot so she could prepare them. I love hot dogs with mustard and these waffle dogs are no exception. I generously placed French's yellow mustard on top and chowed down. Loved the crispy edges and the semi sweet doughy center. Great texture and flavor contrasts to the hot dog and yellow mustard. Perhaps it was too early but the owner could have been more customer friendly. Overall, a great experience at DOK where I'd be game for a repeat visit. The waffle dogs hold a special place in my heart as it recalls the fond memories of my childhood days.

And because they usually operate during work day hours, it is best that you just eat half of the sandwich to avoid that afternoon crash. Prices for these sandwiches may be on the higher side but the quality of the food makes up for it. This food truck is definitely worth checking out. Across the way, another vendor had a super long line which looked like toture... LOL! I like Avocado Toast in general... and I like corn! So - when I saw Avocado Toast with Sweet Corn Salsa on the menu, I had to try it! I was hoping the salsa wouldn't be too spicy - and it was not! It added a small kick in the flavor! The grilled bread was thick enough to not sag, and it had a slightly smokey crunch! I also got the Iced Green Tea with lemon, honey, mint, ginger, and lime. Lunch in Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. It took me about a month to get here. The heavy rains during the past two weeks were an obstacle, and they were closed a couple of weeks before that. I've been just aiming to visit on Saturdays - even though i realized that they're open for dinner on Fridays. The venue is a Japanese temple. It's so quaint and old school... very cool! The restroom is convenient; the environment is clean; and the parking is free! Service is kind, polite, friendly, and thoughtful! Here lives the Aloha Spirit! Of course, I had to order the Waffle Dog. (It reminds me of small kid time when my dad would get Waffle Dogs for mom, me, and my three sisters!) I added my condiments at the self-service area. I also had the Hamburger Steak Bowl... delicious! Gravy was tasty, burger was homemade, hot dog added color, onions added some crunch, broccoli added the healthy factor, and rice was cooked just right! Prices include tax. All of it was delicious...all of it! The waffle dog was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We like to peel off the crispy bits and eat it with the Chow Chow sauce. The teri beef sandwich I didnt get any of ....because my wife ate it all...but she said it was delicious....I will have to sneak a bite next time! The saimin and burger combo was perfect. There's something about these two that just taste better together. We ordered a plain burger, just as a control. It was so good! But because each shake has lots of peanut butter in it, the shake tasted like Reeses peanut butter cups! It was so thick I had to use a spoon, which is how I like it. There was talk and rumors of additional food coming. A special blend of coffee and also nachos....cant wait! I can already envision coffee in my ono ono shake, and nachos over my waffle dog! Yes, 50% of the magic of this place comes with the satisfying food, but the other half, was the joy the staff showed. Even though we weren't there for a real long time (just long enough to dine in), we had interaction with every person working. Each worker came by our table, talked about food, the restaurant and wore a smile. These conversations, this joy, is what will keep me coming back.
