If you are in the mood to have a real Italian dinner, one that will take an evening of eating, talking, laughing, and enjoying then this is the place to come. If you not able to just relax and enjoy, I would recommend going somewhere different. Bella Italia is probably one of my favorite Italian restaurants. To start with, the family that owns this establishment does a great job keeping their ingredients true to Italian culture. This is included in the food prep to customer service at the table. We as Americans need to keep in mind that most other cultures actually take their time to enjoy life much more than we do. So take your time when you eat, and don't be a hoover! For dinner, oddly enough, I started with a German beer that I had not had for many years, Bitburger pilsner. Bread was soon to follow with both a side of a garlic herb butter, and oil with an aged balsamic vinegar. At this point of the meal, you need to understand, its a lot of food so please pace yourself. Even for this food junkie that will stuff myself until my wife has to roll me out and give me an injection of insulin. The bread is awesome, its soft on the inside with a slightly hard crust. For dinner I had to go with the special which included three different choices of goodness, but before I describe the goodness that was, I chose to have both salad and a seafood soup as a starter. The salad was VERY fresh, using romaine lettuce and Roma tomato's and lightly topped with a oil vinaigrette. The soup came next and incorporated the flavors of shrimp, squid, clams, and scallops, in a tomato base. This paired very nicely with both Italian wines that our waitress chose for us. I wish I remembered the names, but can only remember that one was a 2001 and the other a 2007 straight from Italy! For my entree the special included, a chicken saltimboco covered in prosciutto, tortellini ala pana, and beef ravioli. The chicken was done perfectly, and the saltiness of the prosciutto paired well. Tortellini was just how I remembered it from my many past trips to Italy and frankly is one of my favorite treats every time I come to Bella! The beef ravioli was just enough to incorporate all of the three flavors together, with both wines! Please keep in mind, by this point the other three members of my party, are full and ready to go, (due to the diabetic coma from the carbs) and take leftovers with them. Its a lot of food for everyone to enjoy, but wait there's more!!! I'm not done! Spumoni for desert!!! Two other family members took a taste, I ate the rest! We were also surprised by a bite sized canolli torte from our waitress, followed by a aperitif of two different Italian liquors we can't find here in the states!!! Wow great service!!!! When you want the check you need to ask for it. The European culture will leave you for hours to enjoy the company, unless you ask for the check. This is on you. Total experience took about three hours, so please plan for it and enjoy your table mates! I am always in a great mood whenever I eat at Bella Italia, and well feel like part of their family when I leave. Everyone besides me always has food for lunch the next day when we leave, except when I put my wifes leftovers in the trunk then forget to put it in the fridge, sorry honey : ). read more

My husband and I went here for the first time the other day. Very authentically Italian looking from the moment we walked in. Had amazing service from the wait staff. Garlic herb butter was amazing. The salad could've had more to it than just tomatoes. My husband got the fettuccine soup which was good. I got the special sampler, chicken with red sauce tortellini and white sauce ravioli. Pretty good, tortellini was way better than ravioli and chicken. Husband got the gorgonzola gnocchi which was really good. Ordered tiramisu and affogato, my favorite thing all night for sure. They never disclosed the price of the "special", came out to $33 which was way more than anything on the menu. For people who are picky about how water tastes... the water was good. read more

I went with 5 other guys during a business trip. We had heard good things about this restaurant, but I was concerned about the location, since it's off the beaten path a bit. But the food was really good. I'm not a huge fan of Italian food (I know, sacrilege), but this was really tasty, and homemade. There is plenty of room for larger parties, and the food is fresh. The prices are higher than those at a restaurant like Olive Garden, but you can't really compare the two, since Bella is a lot better food. The service might seem slow, until you consider the quality of the food they're serving. Don't go if you're in a hurry. Definitely go if you're looking for a great Italian meal. Meals are priced from about $13 a plate to almost $30 a plate, depending on the special for that day. But again, it's fresh food. read more

Excellent, authentic Italian. If you are looking for the Olive Garden and bad American-Italian food, don't bother. If you appreciate real Italian food, then don't miss this! This is authentic home-cooked style Italian food. The wine list is not huge, but if you know good wine, you won't be disappointed. The Amarone reds on the wine list will not disappoint. The antipasta was authentic and, I suspect, imported from Italy. The fod itself was amazing! The cream sauces were not made with heavy cream as in most American Italian restaurant, but rather followed the Northern Italy tradition of using Marscapone and heavy cream to make a white sauce that's out of this world good! The pastas were home made and the red sauce used tomatoes that were either spot on for San Marzano tomatoes or were, in fact, imported San Marzano tomatoes. I was too full to eat desert, but the others in my party were enthusiastic about them. Our hosts even spoke Italian, and followed the Italian customs for the check. This means that you will have to ask for the bill ("Il Conte, por fevor"). If you love authentic Italian, this is a don't miss it spot in the tri-county area! read more

We were the first customers after the re-opening. Seated outside on a beautiful evening another couple soon took a table too. The food was outstanding and the service perfect. I had the eggplant Parmesan, my wife a beef and mushroom dish - the servings were enormous. As in any real Italian restaurant (especially in Italy), dinner is intended to be the evening. Therefore this isn't your place if you're in a hurry. Italians often spend hours on dinner and is a delightful approach to dining. The staff was attentive and the bill reasonable. Enjoy! read more

I ate there with my family and was dissapointed. The server was nice. But the food was no better then olive garden. I'm sorry, olive garden is a step above Bella. My daughter's meat balls tasted like they had rolled them in salt. My pesto spaghetti. Was just that. Spaghetti with pesto! We have been here twice now and I don't think we will be returning for a long time. The first time, I would rate it a 4; the second time, however, I'd rate our last experience a 1. First time, we decided to try it out on a Saturday. When we arrived, there was no parking and we had to park at the lawyer's office next door. When we came in, we were almost immediately seated upstairs in a private and romantic window-front table. Our service was good...it was still a long dining experience, but our waitress was constantly checking in on us and our glasses were not ever empty. Salad was good, bread was good, garlic/herb butter for the bread was pretty much amazing, and our entrees were very good. Second time, we decided to go for our anniversary celebration last Thursday. We had reservations and arrived a couple minutes early but stood in the doorway for twelve minutes (ten minutes past our reservation time). Employees walked by more than once without acknowledging our presence. Now, the parking lot was empty, mind you, and there were only four other tables with parties of 2-5, all of which had their entrees. When we were finally seated, they seated us in a very loud area next to the bar cut-out and right next to an older couple-- so not romantic when we can hear grandma and grandpa's conversation and a lot of clanging noise from the bar area. Mood killer. After a while, the (awkward) waitress came with water, took our drink order and then our dinner order. Salad was okay. We were hoping for the bread and delicious butter before our meal arrived to keep us busy, but didn't receive anything (not even refills on our soda) for 30 minutes. Minutes later, our food arrived. Overall, it was very good...but I had some sort of breaded chicken that tasted like cardboard. The tortellini was good, but tasted like it was out of a frozen bag. Sauce was good. We waited a long time for the waitress to return and had to ask for boxes. She brought the boxes and we then had to ask for the check. She returned with the check and then we waited forever for her to pick it up. Again, the place was not busy-- especially by this time. This is still not enough for a 1 star review though, since the food was pretty good... THE WORST PART was that on the drive home, my boyfriend began to have some very strong intestinal discomfort. Shortly after he vacated the foresaken bathroom, I was the one in intestinal distress. We figure it was from the salad or tortellini since we both had it, but who knows (we shared our meals). Wow! Ok, so I finally made it to Bella Italia's new digs. Previously, they were located off Clearwater Ave, sort of hidden from the main road, in small space, and in a strip mall----I know what you're thinking: Blah! But there food was always excellent. Now Bella Italia is in a new and swanky building. When you walk in the entrance you have to take a double take---"Am I in the Tri-Cities"?! The atmosphere is very cozy with nice tables, "tall" chairs, great artwork (our server said they have an art gallery, too!). We didn't need a reservation for our mid-week dinner, but they advise it on the weekends. The food is great with several pages of all kinds of yummy Italian. Heck they have like 4-6 kinds of gnochhi! My standby is their "special". They never let me down w/ what their special is for the night. I tried this place a few years back and didn't see the need to return. The food was OK, but the service was slow. Really slow. But then they moved to their new place, and I heard some decent reports, so I thought maybe I should give them another chance. What this taught me (again) is that in the Tri-Cities, the bar isn't very high. Walking into the place, they've put some effort into the decor. I think they were sort of going for the Italian outdoor cafe look....indoors. Art, plants, etc. It'd be kinda nice...if only the kitchen noise wasn't so damn loud. It's a bit of an oddity - it's a 2-story restaurant. My party was led back past the kitchen and up a narrow stairway to the 2nd floor...where the decor almost stopped. The only things I saw upstairs are a couple of potted trees, which were set in a position where they overhung our table and so close to make 1 chair unusable. Up here, the kitchen noise wasn't noticeable, but considering the small number of tables, there was an incredible amount of crowd noise. On top of that, there's an office upstairs - situated right behind our table -that apparently doubles as a playroom for the staff's children, who spent our entire visit running in and out of the room past our table and bumping our chairs. So, once we got seated and got drinks...except for the 1 of us that arrived late and had to wait 20 minutes for a Coke...and ask for it 3 times. We'd been seated 20 minutes before anyone came for our orders. 20 more minutes for salads - which were a decent size, fresh, and with a tasty house dressing. It was a full hour after we ordered before our dinners started arriving. We didn't see our server again for an hour, when she brought our checks. I think it's notable that when I finished I was still wondering what was for dinner. I had a lemon pork dish that sounded pretty good in the menu. I was a bit shocked when it showed up though...the plate had 3 burger-sized pork filets on it - about 1/8" thick. And that was it. The lemon was a little strong in my opinion, but it was OK. Just not near enough of it. Personally, if I spend $17 on an entree, I don't expect to be thinking about getting something more to eat before I even leave the table. The topper to it all...the thing that really chapped my ass...they automatically added a gratuity (I think it was 18%) to the bill for parties of 6 or more. My first problem with that is that 6 people isn't that big a group, and doesn't require any special effort. It certainly shouldn't justify an automatic tip. Second, considering the quality of service we got, 18% was pretty generous. So, to summarize: there are issues with the layout and seating. The service is horrendously slow, and fairly inattentive (nearly 2.5 hours for dinner for 6, all with empty drinks). The food, while reasonably good, is in very small portions, and is expensive considering the quantity. And, if you've got more than a couple friends, you're billed for a tip regardless of whether it's deserved. Personally, I don't understand how this place has stayed in business, much less how they built a new building. Their Italian is certainly better than Olive Garden or most other options, but the small portions and poor service more than negate the quality of their food. I'm not giving them another chance, and neither are any of the people I took there. read more

I've been here quite a few times and have never been disappointed. They have shortened their menu (probably due to the locals not wanting much more than run of the mill dishes) which really stinks because they had some very awesome authentic dishes that you can't get anywhere else. Nonetheless, their food is fresh and well done. They make the only white sauce I have ever liked - and I don't just like it, I love it. Their tiramisu is different than any other I have had. It's light and fluffy and doesn't taste like liquor. I recommend their specials - it's a lot of food but you get a variety of food and you can always take it home and heat it up the next day. Complete and utter disappointment. I only avoided the 1-star kiss of death because the Tiramisu was good and our server was very nice in the face of dealing with a very sad me. I've been wanting to try this place since my move to the Tri-Cities 3 years ago, and as luck would have it, I drove by with my partner just as we were both reaching delusional starvation after having given up on seats at Outback (don't hate --- I heard the promo about the free Bloomin' Onion on 98.3 and apparently so did everyone else.) So, we decided to go in. I was first astonished at the furnishings. BEAUTIFUL chairs.. expensive solid wood chairs.. at every table. When I said down and opened my menu I learned how they could afford to furnish a two-story restaurant in such a fashion. Even the most BASIC of pastas started around $13. Pasta is pure profit for a restaurant --- so charging $13-16 for a plate of spaghetti with little more than minced garlic and olive oil.. highway robbery! But.. I was out for dinner. I was hungry and our server assured us that the "owners were from Rome, originally." I bought the song and dance and ordered an appetizer and a pasta dish that included clams. The appetizer was bland. It appears that they'd taken thin slices of Fred Meyer "Italian" bread; placed some cheese on them, and what they were trying to pass off as prosciutto on top before popping it in toaster oven for 90 seconds. Gross. Then my meal came, and it became obvious to me as I saw the plate coming towards me that I would not be able to eat it... there were no clam shells. I knew this meant one thing: the clams were not fresh and would be mushy. I bit into one. BINGO! I explain to the server that had I known I'd be paying $18 for canned clams, I'd have not ordered them. She pleasantly takes them away to "see if the kitchen can do anything about it." She comes back to report that it'll be taken off my check but the Chef wants me to know that "he never uses canned clams. They were frozen clams!" And for $18 at a place supposedly operated by a real Roman? Still not acceptable. The rest of the meal is unforgettable. My server and a second server (who I also know) come over and try to find something to replace my canned nightmare. I can't bring myself to pay their prices for what I assume will be just as disappointing and just end up eating tiramisu for dinner. It was tasty. If you're going to have something like clams on your menu and you aren't Chef Boy R-D.. then go out and get some real fresh in the shell ones. I get them at Yoke's regularly. read more

Ummm. Wow. Seriously?? Been here 3 times. First time, the waitress brought out the same entree for me as the people I was with ordered, since she never actually took my order. Second time around I went with my husband and it was fine. Not the best Italian I've had, but certainly not the worst. I had asked if I could get chicken and mushrooms added to the saffron risotto and the chef did it. Tonight, we got the same waitress I got the first time. I asked if I could get the same substitutions on the risotto that I had gotten before. Without checking with the kitchen, the waitress said "no." I said that was strange because that was exactly what I had ordered the last time I was there and it was great. She said maybe the waiter who allowed it before didn't know any better or perhaps had been fired. Realizing there would be no entertaining my request I told her I wanted the lasagna, and my husband ordered the risotto with red sauce. After placing the order she asked for the second time if we wanted appetizers. We had already said we just wanted some bread. We had been at the restaurant for over 20 min by this stage and other people who showed up after we did were being served. Eventually she brought the salad. Again we had to ask for bread. When our entrees finally came, it was clear that they had used regular rice instead of arborio rice. It looked more like Spanish rice with an Italian red sauce on top. My lasagna was a bunch of meat on the plate with a single layer of pasta on top and at least a half inch of red sauce. No other pasta layers. By the time we were eating we had already been there for over 1 1/2 hours. 20 min later we still didn't have our bill. We told the waitress the risotto didn't have arborio rice and she said you can make risotto with any kind if rice. Ummm...seriously??? We also pointed out that the lasagna had no layers of pasta, and that there was only one sheet. The waitress said that's how you make it homemade. So it is just my opinion, but I really think everyone should ignore reviews calling this place slow. My husband has spent time in Italy and this place seems to actually provide a bit of a real Roman food experience; which would include a nice leisurely meal that should be lingered over with good friends and enjoyed. This isn't Olive Garden folks, they aren't trying to push you out the door to bring in the next batch of cattle. And food made fresh (not trucked in frozen and premade) takes a while to make. If you are in a hurry you should say so, two and a half hours for dinner is what I call a great night. The restaurant seemed surprisingly busy for a Thursday night in Tri-Cities and that gave me high hopes for our dining experience. Our waitress was FABULOUS and all of our needs were met and within a respectable amount of time; including my request for hot water to make a baby bottle...was very kid friendly. The restaurant and restroom were clean, well decorated, warm and inviting. There were a few great options for kids and my daughter had the yummiest Italian soda I have tried. All the food overall was delicious, the chicken and mushroom stuffed ravioli with the cream sauce were amazing, I wanted to put that sauce on everything on my plate. The price range for their food was great. You could go in and have a pasta dish with soup or salad for about $13. One star off for no baby changing station in the bathroom and for too large of a menu. Very disappointed! Will not go back. My wife and I ate here for Valentine this year with high hopes. Italian is our favorite so much so we went to Italy recently pretty much just to eat! I usually don't give negative review but it was not a good experience. The room was so hot my arms stuck to the vinyl tablecloths. The bread tastes like they bought it from Safeway. If they do make it fresh daily it is not a good recipe. I got a pork dish and they over cooked to the point I didn't eat more then a few bites. The pasta was ok. It is on par with an Olive Garden, which is not a compliment in my book. Overall we will never go back. Very let down. I could have bought a nice steak for what I paid for the overpriced thin pieces of garbage pork. They do have a very nice wine selection though. Very good Italian fare, but expect to pay handsomely for it. Priced in classic Tri Cities business model fashion: "sure, we'll bring authentic Italian here, but we're so special we will charge you more for it than at the other excellent Italian places around the country." I've never been able to grasp that model, which has lead to countless failures over the years... But for the prices, this place does authentic Italian very well. We went as a family about 6:15 on a Friday night and got right in without a reservation. Our waitress was great and the service was perfect - no long waits for anything and no condescension for only drinking water. The menu features great pastas and great meat dishes, which can be combined as half-orders of each - making a fabulous meal. I had the Gnocchis al Sugo coupled with the Saltimboca pork, and it was truly scrumptious. Hard to believe that each dish was a half-order, as I was forced to leave food on the plate. The soup and bread also were very good and noticeably fresh. Pros: Very good and authentic Italian cuisine, excellent service, and no trouble getting in. Cons: A family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teens) ran $105 before tip, with no appetizers, deserts, or drinks. Prepare to drop a wad. Also, Yelp's map has it in the wrong location. Reviews I had read seemed unanimous that service here was slow and one needed to visit with the expectation of savoring a long meal, so I wasn't sure what to expect when we dropped by at 9:00pm an hour before closing. We we hoping it wasn't too crowded, and were delighted to see there were only two other tables there at the time, so it ended up being a very quiet dining experience. Our server was friendly, personal, knowledgeable, and the food was delicious. The course timing was perfect, and the flavor in every dish was amazing. I could find cause to say that a $100 bill for two people would cause me to shy away from visiting again, but I also know my wife and I had a wonderful evening with absolutely no complaints and that's becoming rarer with eating out these days. Oh and one more thing: the Spumoni ice cream was the best I have ever had. read more

This place is amazing! We went there last night and for a Thursday night, on a Hanford Friday off, I was surprised at the lack of people there. Service was good, food is amazing and their wine selection was spot on. They were out of the first bottle I chose, but she knew that. I didn't have to wait for her to go check and then come out and tell me they were out. It did take some time, but that is European style; sit back, enjoy, drink your wine and have wonderful conversation with whoever you are with. One odd thing I noticed is that there were a lot of kids. It doesn't seem like a place to bring children and they ran out of high chairs. Overall - I would go back anytime! read more

Food: A+. Service... not so much. I've been to Bella Italia a couple times now. I live in Seattle, but a good friend lives in the Tri-Cities, so we check it out when I'm in town. The gnocchi is delish and not all that far from the "real" gnocchi we had in Italy. The new location is a lot larger and newer than the previous one, but apparently they still only have one cook making the food, even with a larger amount of guests. So the service is, to put it lightly, SLOW AS HELL. It's definitely worth it if you have the time to sit for awhile - grab some wine, chat with some friends, whatever... I was in town for a conference and 4 of us came in for dinner. We told the waiter we were ready to go slow and take our time eating. We left some 3 hours later very happy with our meal. This is an Italian restaurants run by a couple of transplants. They have two wine lists, one local and the other Italian. I got a big smile when I indicated we were only interested in the Italian wines. Our first wine was a Ripassa Superiore; this was new to us and very enjoyable. We took a chance on a recommendation and we were all happy we did. We also enjoyed a very nice Brunello with the entrees. We ordered the bruschetta alia Romana; this was very good. However, it felt large for an antipasti. Perhaps if we only ordered one antipasti, it would have felt right, but we also ordered the antipasti all'Italiana. They bring their meats in from Italy; they were good. Quite frankly, we only needed one of these antipasti. My legal assistant ordered the tortellini al tartufo and I ordered the fettuccine ai funghi. Both were excellent. The others ordered the special, which was a combination of three chicken dishes. They were all good, but a bit heavy. We all splurged for dessert; I settled for spumoni and it was a nice way to end the evening. The tiramisu was good as was the Nutella cheesecake, which they brought out for fee, most likely since we all had after dinner drinks. Do not come here if you are in a hurry; come to talk, eat and relax. Enjoy the wine, if you like. Had not been here in a while and was "all puckered up" for some Italian food. Alas, we were very disappointed.... I ordered the shrimp ravioli, husband had the special (two pastas plus a mixed grill type "stew" - $27). We both had the salad which, like many other reviewers have pointed out, was very basic (lettuce, tomato and vinaigrette - thats it!). Bread was fresh but just like the loaves you can buy at the check out counter at Albertson's so nothing special. Food came quickly. My first bite, one of the shrimp on top of the pasta, was like a rubber ball - way over cooked. They all were. The sauce was very rich but not a highlight of the dish. Husband's veal pasta was very good. The other pasta was boring and tasteless (linguini with marinara and fresh tomatos). The "stew" was a major disappointment; the meat was tough and the flavor lacking. Pros: Good service, great wine selection, fresh pasta cooked perfectly, lovely, romantic atmosphere. Wonderful food, but plan on spending the night. We've been here for approaching two hours and while the food is good, my six-year-old is running low on patience and now I am too. So i MUST have gone on an OFF day - really, they had a party upstairs the day i went and our food was equally as bad. HOWEVER we had friends that took us out and they wanted to bring us to BELLA ITALIA - my husband and I, politely agreed, not wanting to make a big deal or change their plans. To our surprise, the food was excellent, it was so much better that i could NOT believe it was the same restaurant!!! really!!! our waitress was sweet and attentive, knowledgeable and we had a really nice evening with food the way it's suppose to be. 3 couples went here last night for dinner. The restaurant itself is nice looking although laid out a little differently than most. It is chopped up into a lot of different rooms that I would think makes the severs lives a little more difficult since there aren't any sight lines from one area to the next. On a more positive note, this is a restaurant where conversations at a normal voice level are possible. Our friends had eaten here before so were prepared for the slow pace of the dining experience. It was not painfully slow, just slower than I expected. We all chose the included salad which was lightly dressed which was good but with just some greens and a couple of tomato quarters it was pretty basic. The bread and garlic butter were good. But the meal really took off with the entrees. I had the special which included a sampler of three different entrees: a tortellini in tomato meat sauce, ravioli with a cream sauce and a chicken piccata kind of dish. The two pastas were very, very good. I would eat those any time. The chicken was a little dry and otherwise unremarkable. The prices were good and the experience positive. One suggestion for the business would be to include on the wine list wines sold by the glass. When looking at the wine list it appears as though they only sell bottles. No mention of any other alcohol either even though it looked perhaps they have a full bar. They might sell more if people were aware of their full offerings. The only reason I gave them a 2 star was for the waitress we had. We waited approximately 1.5 hours for our food. When it arrived, half of my dish was cold and mind you, my dish was the "special". The balsamic was good. The pasta was mediocre. Sorry, we probably will NOT be going back. read more

Had dinner tonight at Bella. Setting was nice and service was great but food wasn't good. Appetizer was good and house salad but pasta was underdone sauce was cold. Might be Covid that caused poor cooking. Will have to trying again. read more

My daughters and I went in tonight for Valentines Day, the lady that was at the door wasn't friendly at all. When we walked in, She stood there and stared at us. She wasn't welcoming at all. I noticed the door mentioned tickets only for the night, considering it was our first time going, I approached the lady and asked about the tickets. I asked if tickets were for sale online or where I could purchase tickets to eat there. She didn't answer, I then rephrased my question and asked if they are sold out on tickets, she rudely responded stating the price is $100 per person. I didn't ask about any pricing, I simply wanted to know if tickets were still available to purchase. I was very disappointed that my daughters and I were treated this way. We have been wanting to eat there considering we are part Italian and feel this would be more of an authentic place to eat. I'm sure the food and other staff are friendly, but the person they had tonight isn't greeting customers - :( read more

The food is absolutely delicious and real, authentic Italian!! This is the best restaurant in the Tri-Cities. The gnocchi is like little pillows of delight. I love the eggplant parmigiana. The service is friendly and delightful as well. read more

First time eating here and was so happy we did. This will be one our regular to go spots. What can I say, it's what I would think an authentic family run Italian restaurant is like... including the feistiness! Food was fantastic and the eggplant is to die for. It was a lot of food and price wise... the same as if we were to go get a steak at a steak house. Not complaining because it was a lot of food. Will be back for sure!
