Honestly, I don't understand the great reviews here. Lets break it down. The location is small and it's tucked away in a really odd place. Almost looks like it's a town house end unit. Not much to say about the interior - walls are bare drywall (signs proclaim it's under renovation, no idea if it is or not). Artwork is honestly a little depressing: it's all about the owner's accomplishments and great things he's done...and the most recent article posted is from 2012. I get it, you can't have press every year...but to have articles still up from 2009 to 2012 and literally not a single thing newer? It's just...a little off putting. You can get away with it if your pizza is the best around. If it's not, leave the past in the past - get some new accomplishments or ditch the old articles. Old, however, seems to be the trend of this visit. Walked in at 5pm on a Tuesday - granted, not exactly rush hour for pizza or dinner as a whole. Nobody else in the place - fair for the above reasons. What is NOT fair is what happened when I ordered a slice: they had a pie on display (as almost every pizza place does) that they'll add toppings to on demand, reheat, and send you on your way - which is fine, except this pie looks like it's been there since lunch time ended...potentially yesterday. Cheese was absolutely rock solid, crust ice cold etc and so on. I've had pizza like that come out of my fridge as leftovers the next day. Knowing that you cannot reheat a slice from that state without it tasting kinda crappy, their solution was to drop on my topping of choice (sausage...cut in teeny tiny bits, but then GENEROUSLY heaped on) and then throwing on a kind of ridiculously small handful of mozzarella, I guess thinking that would make all the cheese taste better. Pro tip: it did not. What came out was a slice that could not be picked up in one piece because it was so greasy that it fell apart. To eat it, I'd need to pull it apart with my hands - not a big deal, but not a great start. Worse...my old-made-new-again pizza had no flavor at all. Cheese had no flavor, crust had no flavor, sauce had no flavor, even the sausage had no flavor. It was like eating crunchy air. Look, I get it. Jersey is FULL of pizza options - if you're local I guess this is what you get. Personally I look for one of two things when sorting through all the options: stand out by being exceptional or at least stand out by being unique. This place is neither. What I would change? Ditch the crap hanging on the walls boys. I know you're proud of what you did a decade ago and you're certainly entitled - hang 'em at home. They make your place feel old, just like the pizza was on this occasion. Posting that you won best pizza of Hillsborough in 2009? Same thing - that's now 12 years ago, and with no new awards it just looks sad! When things are slow, I get it, you're not gonna make a pizza every 15 minutes - but if you haven't sold it in 2 hours, out it goes and make a new one. At WORST between lunch rush and dinner start, you're talking about two pies - and it keeps loudmouths like me from getting a slice that just tasted plain tired!

It was just ok. I wasn't to impressed by anything I ordered. The pizza was eh, the fries were soggy (maybe because I ordered through grubhub, but the order was delivered 30 minutes before I expected). The Mac and cheese deep fried things were my favorite-yet they were tasteless and had a marinara said every that was so hot it melted the plastic container and leaked everywhere.

Quick delivery but pizza was awful. It had no sauce and the cheese was hard and tasteless. First and last time I order there.

Typical NJ pizzeria. Garlic knots were very good - very large, soft and garlicky.

I spoke with the Ama family's son who was passionate about how they've developed the right flour combination and hydration to optimize this style of pizza. They know flour! I'll need to convince my daughter to head down and try their pizza so maybe we don't have to trek to her favorite Brooklyn pizza place in the future! Their service was great/professional. Their other courses; antipasto, salads and pastas were exceptional too. Plus they had a portable gelato bar everyone raved about. Obviously, I high recommend Ama.

The reason for the about face is I have never been treated with such disrespect by management/ownership in my life! We had a 7:30 reservation, showed up a few minutes early, and checked in. The hostess told us we can wait by the outside bar, and she would come get us. 20 minutes later, she walked over by the area and went back to the desk. I walked over and checked to make sure she wasn't looking for us. She says no, looks inside and says she's still waiting for guests to leave. OK, I go back. It's now 8, my friend walks over and looks in and sees there are 2 open tables and suggests we walk over to the desk. We do and another hostess asks us after about 5 minutes if she can help, we state were waiting for our table, she looked inside and said OK, we have a table for you. So finally seated at around 8:10. We sit, server comes over in a few, tells us about the specials, sees we have our drinks from outside (the original drinks, more on that later) and says she will be back for our order. Bread (4 measly pieces) comes; she eventually comes back after taking an order from the table next to us who was seated after us and takes our order. Before she leaves my wife asks for more bread with our appetizers, to which she responds dismissively w/ attitude "I'll see what I can do".   My wife is mad; we are all angry as it's 8:45 and the only thing we have been served is bread & attitude. I went outside to find the owner (and his son) who had been out there helping the staff. I walk up and start the conversation stating, 1st off we really enjoy this place and have always had a good experience, but I wanted to share what was happening this evening, specifically w/ the server. I didn't yell, I wasn't belligerent, just voiced my/our displeasure. His response was a rambling about their special bread, why it's limited, blah blah blah. Totally missed the point which was how she responded. So, I respond by saying he obviously isn't concerned with the feedback as all he did was defend their bread position and that I was going back inside. I went back in. The owner and his son proceed to follow me in (confrontational much!) and the owner CONTINUES his bread rant. The son then asks me why I dared speak to his "80 yr old father?". Well, he is walking around like the mayor, I knew he was the owner, so I gave him my feedback. The rest is a bit fuzzy, but it's 8:20ish, no food, a confrontation with ownership and a terrible server. The son comes back and challenges me on our reservation time stating it was 7:45. As if that mattered. It WAS 7:30 and I asked him to come outside, and I'll show him the reservation. I go outside, food/wine shows up, there's yelling (not by us) and they ask us TO LEAVE! WTF! I ask what is going on, wife/friends get up and start getting ready to leave, then another 'henchmen' comes out of the back and starts mean mugging me as if he's ready to throw hands and has the nerve to say, "your inebriated". We had one drink the hour we were there, we couldn't get served enough to be drunk! The owner yelling "this is a family place", blah blah blah. They initiated the confrontation, and the only thing I can think of is I may have used an expletive when OUTSIDE with them (away from any other patrons), never yelled and never was belligerent. I'm 63 and never got kicked out of a bar let alone at a restaurant.  So, I doubt anyone reading this will stay away, but if you do go, especially on a weekend, don't expect good service, and DON'T DARE complain or give feedback. You have been warned!

I waited for the hype to die down before coming in. This is what I found. Saturday at open, there were about ten groups ahead of me and the wait wasn't bad at all. I felt good about the experience early on. Street parking and was able to find a spot. One pet peeve: list your prices. I don't like guessing what I'm about to pay. It came out to around $19 for a large cheese, which is honestly not bad. The young lady who took my order was personable, and I was able to grab a seat inside -- they have outdoor tables as well. The pie came out and at first glance the crust is crispy with an orange glow to it. Unfortunately, I've had better tasting pizza. Someone nearby made a comment about the dough being like a cracker, and I have to agree -- it read more like cardboard to me. I ended up using the garlic salt, grated cheese and oregano from the table just to recover some flavor. The leftovers were even worse. A few odds and ends: the pizza makers all look pretty serious, maybe even miserable. That may just be the heat back there. They also sell individual frozen pies to take home, and they accept cash or card. It wasn't a total waste of time, but it's not going on my list of all-time greats. One and done for me -- I wouldn't travel an hour or more to come back. Sorry guys, I wanted this to be epic and it just wasn't.
