Old school Italian pizzeria known for their grandma vodka slice. All these were singular slices and we had the guy behind the counter split each into 2! Grandma vodka took the top spot with the vodka variation coming in second (the vodka sauce is unbeatable and with thin crust makes it feel nice and light). I'd say it's a tie for the white and square (worth mentioning that the crust for the square was like focaccia, super airy and doughy ). I have decided that this is my favorite pizza in the area. It's consistent and scrumptious. Top quality ingredients, I love the grandma pie soo much as margherita, pepperoni and vodka with penne. It's a crispy and fluffy grandma pie ...just perfect. They carry my Joes tea and the cannolis are so delicious!!! They are proud of their cooking and it shows. I love to come here. When first looking at the shop and the pizza itself, you'll think "Okay, typical New Jersey pizza joint". Then you'll bite into a slice and BAM. Very classic flavors and very classic texture, but done SO well. I just felt like everything from the saltiness of the sauce, the amount of cheese, the time the pizza was baked was just perfectly balanced. This might be sacrilegious, but in some ways I loved Carlo's pizza better than local gem Prima Pizza (now don't fight you two, I still love you both and I promise to split business with you evenly...I'll just be buying twice as much pizza every week so we all win, especially me ) The standout for me was the "Seafood Pizza", which came with calamari, shrimp, and scallops. You gotta love seafood obviously but this was such a unique offering and fit so well with the cheese and sauce that I was sad I only ordered a half and half. Then again, the "Eggplant Parm" was very good too. Carlo's might not win any awards for being a cutting edge pizza restaurant...but who cares? If you are looking for a real treat try their Stromboli. It's the biggest Stromboli I have ever eaten. The stuffing in the Stromboli is massive and delicious. I usually don't rave frequently about restaurants as many if not most are hit and misses! This place is amazing! I always order here and the quality and consistency stays the same which is something I like and highly value! Whoever the chef is please give them a raise or whatever you can to keep them because if anything slightly changes you'll loose me as a customer! I have ordered over 50 times and my order is the Penne Vodka w/chicken and it taste the same ALL the time! The chicken is tender "not hard and rubbery, like some other Italian joints around here" and the pasta is al dente! The vodka sauce is so rich and flavorful and not oily To say this place is excellent is an understatement. I can't speak for the other menu items, as my go to dish is always the penne vodka but I can't imagine the other dishes not tasting just as amazing. I always recommend this place to my clients who come from all over the world and they always give a thumbs up to this place! I should start getting some commission haha! Superb experience! Absolutely huge slices and the lunch deal is unbeatable at $5.50(plus tax) for 2 giant flavorful slices and a bottle of water/or soda. I intend to make an order for one of their specialty pies next! The menu looked incredibly unique and had a lot of neat options. The shop was clean and the staff (a man and a woman at the time I went) were both polite in their welcome. This place is hands down the best this side of town. Dropped by bc I was hungry and this was near where we were and convenient. Luckily, they allowed inside dining (distanced of course) so we had our food there. I don't remember what my husband had but I ordered something similar to a fat cat (those that know what that is just know lol). It was just ok? The pizza was very good, ordered online without problems and it was ready fast. But stay away from the calamari, it was bad. I've had a lot of calamari in my lifetime and this was by far the worst. It smelled and tasted horrible, unfortunately I had to throw all of it away. Updated review- the owner called and explained that the distributor delivered bad calamari and that it has been fixed. Delicious however I do have 2 small suggestions for the cheesesteak sandwich, which like I said was already very good. A bit more cheese, but I do love that it was mixed in and not on the top which peels away with the foil. Also the peppers and onions were chopped up a bit too small. Larger slices are better.
