Dating back to 1910, calling this place an icon is truly an understatement. I've been coming here for years, although I have to admit it had been a couple of years since my last visit. With my upcoming move out west, this was at the very top of my Utica bucket list. There are just some places that hold too much history and too many memories to leave town without visiting one more time. A little heads-up: While the bar is now open multiple days a week, the kitchen is currently open only on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Nothing fancy here, but you'll find good Italian food steeped in history, tradition, and a genuine love of food. I do have to admit, though, that I miss the family who used to run this restaurant. The granddaughter was the server, another family member ran the bar, and two elderly gentlemen handled all of the cooking. It was truly a family affair. Back in the day, they even sold meats by the pound from the basement. Those days are sadly bygone, and unfortunately, the restaurant has changed hands several times over the years. While they have kept many of the traditions and familiar touches intact, I do feel the Italian gravy/sauce has changed. Personally, I'm not a fan of the new sauce and definitely miss the old recipe. They still bring a partial bag of fresh-baked Italian bread to the table ... no butter, and don't bother asking for it! Cash is still king here, so come prepared. It may have changed over the years, but if you want to experience a little piece of Utica and enjoy a meal steeped in Italian history and tradition, this is still a place worth visiting. Some restaurants are more than just a meal, they're a piece of the community's story.

Back in the day, Delmonico's was the place to go when you wanted to dress up, celebrate something special, and enjoy a higher-end meal without having to travel far. At a time when there weren't nearly as many upscale dining options around, this definitely felt like an occasion. And let's talk about the atmosphere because there is absolutely no mistaking the theme here. Think Italian mobster meets supper club. Mob-related actors and photographs adorn the walls, Frank Sinatra is playing, and the dining tables are tucked into little private nooks. They really lean into the whole experience -- and honestly, you either love the theme or you're going to find it a little... cheesy. Coming back with fresh eyes, I found myself realizing that what I once considered an upscale dining experience now feels more like an expensive, heavily themed steakhouse chain. This particular location was once an Applebee's, and while they have certainly given the place a complete makeover, I couldn't help but feel that a tiny bit of the Applebee's DNA was still hanging around. The restaurant has also had its share of challenges and negative publicity over the years, particularly surrounding staffing and cleanliness. That said, our experience was actually very good. Our server and the staff were terrific, the food came out exactly as ordered, and everyone was attentive to our needs. I ordered the Classic Delmonico, their signature steak, and it was cooked perfectly. I requested no pepper seasoning and they got that right ...always a win when a simple request actually makes it to the kitchen! The steak was enormous, and I had enough left over to make another meal out of it. Meals come with pasta as a side, but I opted to upgrade to a vegetable. Enter the asparagus... which apparently had gotten into a serious relationship with the pepper shaker. It was covered in pepper. Luckily, nothing a little napkin intervention couldn't fix! So after all these years, where does that leave me? The service was excellent, the steak was good, the portions were generous, and the atmosphere is certainly memorable. But when I look at the overall experience versus the price, I think my dining dollars would go elsewhere. For a special occasion, I would personally choose a smaller, more intimate steakhouse or upscale restaurant where the food and atmosphere feel a little more elevated and less like a chain experience. But I'm still glad I went. Sometimes you revisit an old favorite and discover it isn't quite what you remembered. And sometimes that's okay. The restaurant may have changed or maybe my definition of a special dining experience has simply evolved. Either way, it was worth the trip down memory lane. Would I go back? Probably not for a special occasion. But I'm glad I finally went back after all these years, if only to see whether Delmonico's could still live up to the version I remembered.

Is it a way to disguise a green vegetable under a mountain of fat and carbs? Probably, and they do a good job of that, but the salt and fat did get a bit overwhelming for me.

I've given Bella Regina multiple chances, but after several negative experiences, I feel compelled to share my truth. The first time I visited with my best friend, there were open tables, yet we were not seated. My friend is Black and I'm Indian, and I genuinely believe we were treated differently because of our race. It was deeply uncomfortable and disheartening. On another visit, I made it clear I am a strict vegetarian for religious reasons and asked for no meat. Despite this, I found a piece of chicken in my food. When I called, I was met with denial and rudeness, I was told it "wasn't possible" because each dish is made to order. I had to bring the food back just to receive a refund, and not once did anyone offer an apology. The most recent experience was the final straw. I explicitly reminded them of the previous issue and again requested that my food be carefully checked for meat. I went home and found a large piece of chicken. When I called, I was once again told it was "impossible." The manager, Angela, responded dismissively after I sent a photo, saying it must have been "transferred" from another dish. No ownership, no genuine apology, just a cold, impersonal response. I understand that mistakes happen, but the way they were handled, with denial, condescension, and apathy is unacceptable. The repeated disregard, especially toward a religious dietary restriction, is hurtful. Combined with the racially charged experience during my first visit, I can no longer support this establishment. I strongly urge others, especially people of color and those with dietary restrictions, to think twice before dining here. Respect and accountability matter and unfortunately, I experienced neither at Bella Regina. read more

My wife and I visited Utica for a few days and just happened to walk past and then into Bella Regina. What a find! The food was excellent! Portions are large so you won't go hungry. We were not that hungry when we went in but it was so good we ate most of it. Eggplant dish was excellent; eggplant was breaded but lightly so and covered with riccata and other cheeses. Yum! But best of all is the red sauce! Fresh and light, yet slightly sweet. I don't think I've ever had better sauce. My wife got their tomato salad full of ripe tomatoes, black olives, fresh mozzarella and red peppers. The accompanying garlic bread was great as well. And like other reviews the wait staff is fantastic. The mother waited on us and the brother came around to check on us and make sure we had a great time. Absolutely the best restaurant in Utica and here's why. I went there with a couple friends and loved it. I had the veal marsala and it was amazing. A few months later I ordered the same thing but to-go by phone, and I went in and picked it up. I went home and was about to feast with my friend when we realized it was chicken instead of veal (I didn't mind, everyone makes mistakes). I called and they told me that I can order any meal on the house whenever I want. I did that about a week later. I spoke with the owner on the phone and she was as delightful as you can be. When I went in to pick up the order she was sweet and apologetic and just a breeze to deal with. She wouldn't even accept a tip. Although the customer service is great and they care about our experience, the biggest plus is the food, it's absolutely the best I've had in Utica, especially the marsala. This place was suggested by the hotel and we were so excited to go. Upon entering we were greeted so nicely and the atmosphere was awesome. Looking around we felt we were in a hollywood movie it is that great in there. To our suprise it took our waitress 15 to 20 minutes to even come over to our table. We then ordered drinks and it took her another 20 minutes to bring them and on top 2 of them were wrong. We brought it to the attention to a man there and he brought us out the correct ones. Finally she took our order. 15 minutes later she brought out our salads. Thank the stars when our food came out it was worth it. Just as we were told it was outstanding. I specifically downloaded yelp to add a 5 star review to Bella Regina's restaurant. I literally have never even seen yelp before using it for this review. I would recommend any person looking for an enjoyable meal with the highest class of service visit this restaurant. I sat for a dinner of chicken riggies and I have to admit I almost literally had an organism. Our waitress was by far the most accommodating person I've experienced in a very long time at any food establishment. Overall I'd give the entire place 6 stars out of five it was that good because places like this simply don't exist anywhere outside of dreams. read more

Bella Regina's is a wonderful family restaurant with outstanding Italian food. Regina makes everything fresh and always put her love of cooking into every dish. We eat here every time we get to the Utica area. We had my Mom's birthday dinner here and Regina made sure to put a personal touch in to make her feel like the Queen she is. Thank you so much for a wonderful evening. We will see you again soon. Don't miss this gem on Genessee Street. We got pizza during Super Bowl and it was fantastic. Sine then we have gotten pizza several times…read moreeven requesting that it gets cooked well (we like our pizza crispy). Tonight's pizza was the worst as portions of it were still doughy and uncooked. Additionally, Garlic Pizza is so flavorful but this was not. Just a soggy greasy mess. The Pizza is not cheap which is fine if it is good but to have to cook it when you get home is a bit much. Last time it was undercooked and did not have toppings order. So disappointed as the pizza could be great but it is just not consistent and this will be our last visit
