The pizza was decent and unique compared to my own neighborhood, the cheese was hiding underneath the toppings, which were underneath sauce. Delicious. I also enjoyed Chicken Riggies, recognizing from my fellow Yelpers this was a local staple. The unique sauce was delicious, the chicken and rigatoni stood well on their own and together. Crappy pizza, ok wings, terrible service/atmosphere. The bar area is tiny and they like to serve only their regulars. I've been before and it took 15 minutes to get a new drink while some drunk old guy just yelled at the bar tenders and got served several times. Worst takeout in a while! I ordered the Bleecker Panini, gluten free and not only was the sandwich sloppy and undone all over the slice box I got it in, It was basically oil and ends of lettuce and tomato. Very disappointed paying almost $20 for a sandwich I tossed. read more

The Cabernet French Dip sandwich was delicious or so my husband advises, it was gone before I got a chance to try it. So I had to settle with my pepperoni pizza, which was so good! Was Christmas shopping, and grocery shopping in the plaza today. Once I was done going to a few stores me and my mom were starving. We decided we would go have a lunch here as we were around in the area. Went to go pull the door and it's locked at 12:45. Looked online and says it opens at 12. Like why do your hours state you open at 12 but doors are locked at 12:45. Tons of people were shopping in that plaza apparently this place doesn't want or care about making money. Called to order a big order, one part was the large pizza and 3lbs of wing special. As I started my order and asked for 2lbs of the wings to be grilled I was very very rudely interrupted and basically scolded that they don't split orders. Guess what Im fine with that but dont yell at me because I asked for something you don't do, try explaining it to me like a mature person. If I could describe this food in one word, that word would be "Eh" followed by a shoulder shrug. If you want some mediocre food and sub par service then this is your place. They had plenty of room and empty seats, and I can certainly see why. The pizza we had was sub par lacking flavor and unimpressive at best. The fries were greasy and boring. I had been hungry after shopping so I grabbed (what's basically) a roast beef panini to go. Absolutely delicious! It is a big sandwich, be prepared to share with a friend, or have as a snack later. Their subs are the best in the area! Rolls are so fresh and they are consistently good! The pizza is very good when it's fresh and right out of the oven. The dough/crust is always really hard and crunchy and doesn't reheat well. Pizza is very pricey too. It's very good don't get me wrong but sometimes I'm not sure it's worth it since only the center pieces reheat well. Wings are also not my favorite. read more

Probably my favorite pizza in the world. I only make it into town a few times a year, but try to make it a point to stop in whenever I do. The crust is always the perfect balance of crunchy and chewy, and the sauce is always flavorful. The bake at home pies travel well and are delicious as well! read more

The wings were cooked well and the BBQ sauce on the side was flavorful. The mozzarella sticks and the antipasto salad was good as well. They deliver right to your hotel room which is a huge plus. 3.5 stars. I will try them again the next time I'm in town. read more

Got to respond to the post from Scott: I thought I noticed a difference too. The pizza I got a while back from the south Utica store was just as you described at North Utica...thick, dry dough that made it taste completely different than the classic O'S pie. Like you said, it didn't taste bad, but it wasn't the O'Scugnizzo pie my family has gotten for decades. Purely as a test, I went back over to Bleecker St shortly after and ordered the same thing, and yeah-- it was different...with the dough the way it has been for a zillion years, and the way it should be. Must be Bleecker is more faithful to the old recipe. (And they were friendly, too. Lighten up there, Scottie.....) read more

Though we normally stop at the original location on Bleecker St, which is nearby, we got a large pie this weekend at the North Utica shop. Good service and--not to sound snarky--- friendlier than Bleecker, to be honest. However, our out-of-town guest, originally from Utica and a huge O'S fan, noticed a difference in the pie right away, and so did we. Crust was overly thick and dry, and the sauce seemed a bit different than usual---changing the whole taste of the pizza. It wasn't really bad, but not what we've come to expect and what has been so successful for 100 years. Have any of you other long-standing O'Scugnizzo fans noticed this? We hope it's not going to become a regular thing...... read more
