I'm not sure if my 4* rather than 5* is for the preparation or for what the dis his--I wasn't expecting a dish called "greens" to be, basically, junk food. There's escarole in there and the ingredients were super fresh, sure, but the pile of oversalted bread crumbs was really most of the texture here. Is it a way to disguise a green vegetable under a mountain of fat and carbs? Probably, and they do a good job of that, but the salt and fat did get a bit overwhelming for me. read more

The food was sub par: the cheese sauce for Alfredo and pasta purses had a funny taste, the rigatoni and broccoli was straight oil and we ordered a side of fries, never got them. Unfortunately, the food wasn't the worst part of our experience. There were two ladies working, our server and the other. Because we had 3 crying babies we were trying to respect others and attempted to pay up at the hostess stand. We received LOADS of attitude from the other server and was told to go back to our table. As a person who travels alot for work you never really know what to expect when going to eat somewhere new. The hotel I'm staying at recommended Tavolos to our group On Monday. I must say upon sitting at the bar I was greeted by one of the most bubbly individuals I've ever met. That reason alone we have been back multiple times this week alone Sabrina has made us feel right at home, gave us great food recommendations and even a few ideas on activities to do in our spare time here in Utica. We went to Tavolo for lunch shortly after they opened for the day, and were not disappointed. Our server Becky was great and very friendly. The three pizzas we ordered for the table were delicious, with one being a pleasant surprise. We weren't sure how the pickle pizza was going to taste. As odd as it sounds, it outstanding and we would get it again. The margarita and corner deli pizzas were great too. Our sandwiches and pasta dishes were all tasty, with more ample portions. The Chicken Morelle sandwich and Chicken Riggies are awesome local favorites. Very comfy bar/restaurant vibe. One of our favorite places when we're in Utica. read more

Came to town for a concert and Tavolo was nearby our hotel. I was going back and forth between pizza and pasta, and sadly made the wrong choice. I ordered shrimp scampi only for it to taste bland and watery. Definitely get the pizza next time. However, I did enjoy the calamari and New York cheesecake. read more

I am staying next door at the Hilton Suites and was looking for a nice dinner to take out and bring back to my room. This did not disappoint. I ordered an apple walnut salad and the hot honey salmon. It was absolutely delicious. The waitstaff that took my order was very welcoming, kind, and efficient; taking my order with a couple of special requests and getting it perfect. I love industrial upstate New York towns. I love multiple competing Italian-American restaurants. I love cities that have disproportionate numbers of eateries because of the rich immigrant history. And I loved Chesterfield's Tavolo. Chicken parm like how my mom would make it, served with a dollop of ricotta on top, because why not add more cheese? Warm buttery pull-apart bread with a spicy marinara, put out almost immediately when we sat down. A cheesecake with eleventy options for toppings at no charge, including Italian cherries and fresh whipped cream. And a waitress who knew enough to pause when I said no to the whipped cream ... because of course I changed my mind to yes. Loved that this place was hopping at 5:15 on a Saturday. Loved that service was friendly and efficient. Loved the huge portions and constantly refilled beverages. And loved that I got to look like the coolest aunt ever to my collegiate nephew, who I was visiting for the weekend and treating to a meal. Can't wait to go back. read more

They have a large menu specializing in Italian foods -pizza, pasta, seafood, chicken and veal. We started off with a complimentary serving of toasted cheese dusted bread and a fantastic marinara dipping sauce. For our dinner, we split a salad and a pizza. Our Tavolo Salad ($14) was a generous portion of artisan lettuce, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, crispy onions, crumbled blue cheese, black olives, diced bacon, and a balsamic vinaigrette dressing. It was super fresh and excellent - plenty for us to share. We went with a cheese pizza ($17) - eight slices with a thin crust, shredded mozzarella and marinara sauce. The pizza was very good. I am reviewing based on one dish take out while on a drive through to Buffalo. We had to stop for the Greens Morelle aka Utica Greens as famous by this place. They were interesting at first as i did not know exactly what to expect. First though was dry but then as you dig into the inner layers with meat and peppers you find a harmony with the escarole and breadcrumbs. My initial reaction was "oh this is the Italian version of how Brazilians use farofa on their black beans and such" because these breadcrumbs are more fine than normal Italian style breadcrumbs but it is a nice dish. The hostess was very pleasant. The place looks like somewhere I'd spend a nice lunch or evening outside as they have a very well decorated patio. Overall I'd go again and would not mind splitting the greens among friends! read more

First off, enter this establishment from the parking lot entrance. I entered from the street and had to walk through the bar to the hostess table. No big deal, but just something to know. Once at the hostess table, I was immediately seated in the dining room which was modern and relaxing. I also had a good view of the 1000° pizza oven. My server greeted me and took my drink order. Throughout the entire meal she was attentive, friendly, and very helpful. I ordered the anacini rice balls from the Daily Specials menu. They arrived looking delicious. And they were! Crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. I ordered the Veal Matteo as my main. as soon as it arrived I realized this was a lot of food. The angel hair pasta was delicious with the cream sauce. The veal was crispy and tender. The eggplant was delicious. And the fried artichokes on top, well I wish there was more than two. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to eat most of the entree and I took it home with me. Overall, I had a great experience here. I went to Tavolo recently with 3 family members on a Friday night. I'd recommend reservations to be on the safe side. It was busy but not necessarily swamped. I got a new menu item, the hot honey salmon, and the others got chicken parmesan and a pizza. Everyone was happy with what they got, but my salmon was a bit overdone and it was missing an item on the dish. I asked about it and it was promptly brought out. I've had other menu items there before that were delicious, including the ravioli and the lasagna. It's a great place for date night, a night out with friends, or a family get together. read more

We grabbed a takeout dinner for 2 because we stayed at the hotel nearby. The place is really nice itself, there looks like there would be nice outdoor seating as well. We ordered the dinner for 2 special of the salmon mezanotte, that also came with a salad, and bottle of red/white wine for only $34 bucks. We thought the food was very good! The salmon was perfectly cooked, not too dry and just moist enough. The pasta itself was full of flavor but not overly salty or too heavy. The Caesar salad was your typical Caesar salad. But even the bread they gave was very good! Note: for those who are doing takeout as a traveler, the bottle of wine they give you is a corked bottle of wine not a screw top. I unfortunately don't have a wine opener with me so I didn't get to enjoy the bottle of wine today but saving it to enjoy for later!
