We went to the previous Bella Roma location in New Albany shortly after opening several years ago, had a bad experience and never went back. We just went to the Jeffersonville location with family. We had our reservations because of the last experience, but were willing to give it another try based on their recommendation. We were pleasantly surprised. The location is lovely with the view of the river, and the outdoor seating is a nice touch. This could definitely be a romantic spot for an evening dinner. We went in the afternoon and called ahead to make reservations for a party of 12, including children. They accommodated us just fine and were very gracious. The service was excellent, the wait staff had a polite, friendly manner, and kept everything flowing perfectly. We all enjoyed our food. One of the best dishes was the House Special, which was ordered with meatballs. The vodka sauce was tasty. I would say parking and handicap access would be the challenges that I observed. I was excited to have a new spot in Jeffersonville to try - and waited a couple of months for the newness to settle. As a previous reviewer mentioned - parking and handicap access are challenges the restaurant will need to address. Since we arrived for an early dinner - parking was not an issue for us . . . we utilized street parking right in front of the restaurant. There are two short sets of stairs to enter the restaurant itself - I did not see a ramp for handicap access. Once we entered the restaurant, we were given the choice of a small table downstairs or dining upstairs. We elected upstairs since the dining area downstairs (which is very small) was packed with a large group and only the small table was available. To reach the dining area upstairs you must climb a long staircase. I would recommend if you are challenged with stairs - make a reservation for the dining area on the first floor. Just remember you must climb a small set of stairs to get into the restaurant itself. Once we were seated, we did have to ask for the AC to be turned on - it was very stuffy. There were two of us - each ordering drinks, salads and entrees. Our waiter was excellent and handled the AC request, drinks refills, check-ins all superbly. The food was okay - not the quality I would anticipate for the price. The best description for the food would be bland - the amount of food is fine - it's just bland. I don't live here, but we visited this spot on a Sunday afternoon for a family dinner after a special event. The atmosphere was amazing...really great view of the river, beautifully decorated inside, just a really lovely environment. After reading some of the previous reviews, I now know that the restaurant is newer, so I'm going to be understanding of the growing pains that come with a new restaurant. The service could have honestly used a little work. The server did come to our table to take plates away, but never asked us any questions like "how is everything?" Or even "are you ready to order?" We had to initiate any requests we had for him. The food is good, but honestly, most of it is not worth the price. Our meal for four people was $165 before tip. We did have appetizers and dessert, but that seemed steep even for that. I really wish they made their own pasta. The pasta is clearly dry pasta. I love to see an Italian restaurant make their own pasta. That makes me more willing to pay extra for the dishes. The caprese salad was really good (and the portion was large...even for the half size). The eggplant parmesan was good, and they were willing to substitute alfredo for the marinara sauce. But, it was swimming in sauce and the sauce was bland and thin. The garlic knots were nice as a different type of bread offering. They weren't overly flavorful, but they were good and all got eaten without a problem. The bruschetta appetizer was a family favorite. We all loved that...it was one of the best dishes we had. For dessert, we got the cannoli (which was really good) and the tiramisu, which was served...hot? I've never had hot tiramisu and it really made it a weird experience. I don't know if that was just this day or if that's the way it's always served, but I would skip it if it's always served hot. Overall, portion sizes are large (which is nice), but the food is a bit run of the mill. I wish it was a little more special. Good Atmosphere. Decent Food. All in all - Average at Best. I came optimistic even after reading the reviews, but unfortunately we had to face the facts. The atmosphere both indoor and outdoor are nice. White tablecloths and good lighting. Outdoor would benefit from some light music and a little table decor. The service was okay. We were checked on once, and that was nice. Food was also just okay. We wished everything had a more rich flavor - butter, cream, spices - all of it would have helped. We ordered the carbonara and the house special - both were good but expensive. Prices should be about $5 cheaper per item. Unfortunately they still do not have their liquor license as of 05/15/26 and said it "should come in the next week or so." This was not bad, but I can't say we will be back. read more

Okay a soft opening still trying to get the liquor license approved. It is nice to see a new store occupying a restaurant that was not to the taste of the area. Of course, sitting out on the terrace you get the full view of the river in the walking bridge so that is a big plus for this place . So what about now. I ordered a Cesar salad and meatballs by themselves to see how they tasted An Italian restaurant should do a good job of making them. They were okay. The sauce was simple heated up, crushed tomatoes with no spices, salt or pepper in it. The garlic rolls well okay. I would rather have a focaccia instead. One thing I did notice and I know this is a soft opening for the restaurant. I was a single eater and was treated like I wasn't even there. In fact when I checked out, the waiter disappeared didn't come back. No one said goodbye so they have a little bit of customer service that they need to work on. Overall, I would give the ambience a 10 out of 10, I would give the food that is six out of 10. There's a lot of things that could have a little bit more spice to them. Placed a takeout order online for Valentine's Day to avoid the crowds and have a chill night in. Didn't eat all day, planning to just go crash and have an amazing dinner. 4 hours later, we arrived at the restaurant to pick up our food. We were left standing at the bar with water dripping on us because of the roof leaking, for 30 minutes. No one acknowledged us. When we finally flagged down the owner, he said that online ordering was not supposed to be on for the evening and that they did not prepare our food. No warning, no call, nothing. Just left us with nothing at 6:30pm.... He said I'd need to go home and wait for my refund. Considering what day it was, I was appalled. As a wife and mom of 5 who works full time, I cherish the days I get to eat food I don't have to cook, with my husband, on a special holiday. Nothing else could be done that late as everywhere was booked up and slammed. We ran by Kroger and picked up some snacks and went home. Take the trip to Floyd's Knobs and go to Amoré. I was out for dinner for one so sat at the bar. The small patio area was filling up but I wouldn't want to take a full table to myself on a Friday night anyway. It was about 645 so not quite dinner rush for the weekend but there was seating available. I wouldn't count on that even 15 minutes later though. I'm unsure if they take reservations or not. Again, I was solo at the bar. I'm less of a wine drinker, but the bartender did a great Long Island tea (something many places around here seem weak at, so this is high praise coming from me). They brought out these little twisters garlic bread things with fresh garlic and fresh tomato dipping sauce. Yumm!! I ordered the chicken parm. It was between that or the lasagna bolognese. They were similarly priced (dinners were mid $20s which is entirely reasonable for the portion and the bread). The chicken Parmesan came with a healthy serving of spaghetti as well. I couldn't even tough it, I was so full! The chicken was perfectly cooked. The service was excellent. The building is in old downtown new Albany so obviously the charm of the older building and all that goes with it is part of the experience. Last night's visit to Bella Roma was disappointing. Large portions do not make up for mediocre food. My fried ravioli was bland, even after adding salt and pepper and the tomato based sauce served with it. My partner's chicken Parmesan was not much better. Our dog loved the full serving of spaghetti and one of the chicken breasts that we brought home. I gave two of the four raviolis to our friends for their lunch today, They had the pasta dish with vodka sauce and said it was 'ok'. Ceiling needs repair and paint. Restaurant was neat and clean, and our server was attentive and friendly. My partner and I are not big eaters. I wish restaurants offered half portions. read more

I'm being generous - Bella Roma is better than 3 stars, but not a legitimate 4 star. We entered the restaurant and per the sign, waited to be seated. And waited. And waited a little longer. After several minutes a young lady came out and took us to a table. We were then promptly greeted by our server, Carla, who took our drink order and delivered our drinks and some Garlic knots. The wine, by the glass, was a healthy pour. Frankly, we'd prefer garlic bread to garlic knots. The knots were basically yeast rolls with brushed garlic butter. They would have been much better if they were toasted. As an appetizer, we ordered fried calamari. They were excellent. Large, lightly breaded and not greasy. The marinara dipping sauce was thin. Honestly, I've had thicker tomato soup. Perhaps a style of a particular region of Italian cooking. We split a Greek salad. Carla brought a large salad with an extra dish and 2 cups of dressing on the side. The salad was fresh, crisp and large enough to share. For dinner, my wife ordered a seafood combo and I went with linguine & clams. Again, generous portions. Bella Roma does things a bit differently. Instead of clam sauce, it's your choice of Alfredo or Marinara with whole clams in the shell. The seafood combo had mussels, calamari, shrimp and clams. Same deal with the marinara. Thin. Almost watery. A very mild sauce. We had to ask for red pepper flakes to spice things up. Bella Roma can be a very romantic spot. Warm decor. Good service. But food that's getting pricey and unfortunately, for us, j no a tad underwhelming. At least where marinara is concerned. For all I know, the Alfredo could be spectacular. read more

I am extremely disappointed in the customer service provided Saturday evening. The power went out while my teenager was eating with a friend. She did not have cash on her and the staff wanted to take a picture of her debit card. She ended up calling me and they allowed me to venmo the waitress. This is definitely not the normal situation and the correct thing to do would have been to comp the meals for the customers. It was not their fault that the power went out and there was no way to use the POS system. Also, asking to take pictures of someone's debit card on a personal cell phone is definitely a security risk. read more

I probably shouldn't have put as much thought into this review but I wanted to be as fair as possible even though once a roach crawled across our table at 5:45 pm sort of did my evening in. We were with another couple who has been to this restaurant on several occasions (but our first...and sadly last). We discreetly asked for the manager to show him the roach I had swept off the table and stepped on. When he came over it was almost intuitive how he placed his foot right on top of that dead bug. He was very hard to understand but I think the gist of it was a hole was found that led to the basement...they had it fixed...he showed me the repair bill...since he recognized me from being there many times (umm never) he was certain we would know this was entirely random due to the hole...it could happen to anyone even at your own home...and so on. We anticipated leaving and it took everything I had to stay...but giving him the benefit of the doubt...we stayed. No discount was offered...which I found odd. What really gets the 2 stars is, I was not impressed with the food OR service. The place is on the small side so you are entirely too close to other diners. The rolls had a stale texture. My manicotti consisted of three 3 inch tubes in a rustic (tomato cores and all) watery marinara. My date had the spaghetti and meatballs of which the meatballs tasted nothing more than what you get pre-made in the freezer section of the grocery. Our bill with 2 beers came to $63.00 Our waiter got both checks wrong TWICE. The couple we dined with got lasagna and stuffed mushrooms. The owner gave them an extra slice of lasagna to go because "he felt he needed to do...something" I really hated to right this review. The owner seemed nice but clueless about how to assure people will come back. We could have made a big deal about that roach...and many would have... Then my date reported the bathroom was in need of maintenance and there were 2 dead bugs on the floor in there...not roaches...but some sort of bug. This review is mostly about the food and the building itself. So I will start with the positives first. Our server was fantastic! Very friendly. Prompt. Polite. I do not recall her name but she executed her job perfectly. The marinara and vodka sauces were lovely. And now the negatives. The Alfredo sauce my husband had was watery. The noodles in his dish were over cooked and borderline mushy. The lobster ravioli I had were good but everything including the calamari appetizer were wildly under seasoned. I was expecting flavorful and was met with bland. We were sat in a corner which I prefer but my experience was muted by the amount of dust hanging from the wall and the decor in my direct eye line. The overall ambiance of the restaurant did not equal the price point. The ambiance itself i would gladly overlook if the food was spectacular, but sadly it left we wanting. Was it good. Yes. My family are from out of town and wanted to dine close to our Airbnb. We arrived and we immediately welcomed. Our family of 5 ordered and meals and appeared to be out out of a magazine. We are used to upscale dining and this ranks with some of the best. Everyone ordered something different and a couple asked to slightly change or alter the menu item. They graciously agreed. The food was wonderful, from pastas, seafood, marinara and bread. Everything was freshly made and tasted great. If you are traveling or just in New Albany this is a must stop. Bella Roma has some very fresh, very good Italian classic dishes. We had some bruschetta with shrimp on top that was very good. The tomatoes and garlic had wonderful flavor. The garlic knots were great. We had the chicken Parmesan, the spaghetti Bella Roma with a side of sausage, the baked ziti and the cheese tortellini. All the entrees were delicious but the cannoli for desert was one of the best we have had. The cinnamon was very distinctive and flavorful. Love them. Our waitress Tiffany was very good even when the restaurant was very busy. She kept our waters full and had some great suggestions. My husband and I were looking for an anniversary dinner spot during Kentucky's second closure of indoor dining and stumbled upon Bella Roma in New Albany! The food was absolutely delicious and we loved each dish we ordered. To start we ordered the calamari which was fresh and very good! We each had salads before our entrees which were good as well. Our entrees were the stars of the show. We ordered the Eggplant Parmesan and Seafood Pasta. We shared both and they were fantastic. Food came out quickly and everything was hot! Service was attentive, but the restaurant was clearly understaffed for how many customers were wanting to dine in on the Saturday night we chose to eat at Bella Roma. Loved the chicken Marsala - SOOO flavorful and the chicken was juicy and fork tender. The Caesar side salad dresses was really good as well. A bit overpriced for the small salad though. The only item I wasn't impressed with was the bread they give you upon sitting. It lacked flavor and was COVERED in garlic. The sauce it came with didn't have a ton of flavor either. My husband and I decided to try this restaurant for my birthday. It was very disappointing. The food was not what I would call fine dining or authentic Italian. The garlic knots were the consistency of a hard dinner roll, the sauce with it tasted like it was canned diced tomatoes with no seasoning. We have had better Italian at Olive Garden for a third of the price. The decor was fine but either the air conditioning wasn't on or wasn't working and it was a hot day. I had been wanting to try this place since we moved here. Unfortunately I was a little underwhelmed with my dining experience. I ordered a glass of wine but they were out of the wine I ordered. I completely understand that is no fault of theirs. The waitress told me there was another similar wine to what I had originally asked for. I saw her pouring a glass and it was something I could have bought a whole bottle of at Kroger for the same amount as the glass she was pouring me. We were eating our bread and waiting for our meal, again, a little underwhelmed by the garlic bread. It was just missing something. I ordered the fettuccine alfredo, which actually was very delicious. However, I don't think it was worth the price I paid. Great joint! People dress as though this is fine dining, however there is literally black goop dangling from pipes in the bathroom and the floors are falling apart. Our service was horrendous. Only gets 4 stars because the food was great and I believe the service was an anomaly. Spaghetti and meatballs was good. Bread was good. Chicken Parm was perfect. read more

What can I say about a great place to relax after driving 10 hours from North Carolina. Find a great place to eat and relax! Food was fabulous, one of the best Italian restaurants I have eaten at in years. Not to mention our waiter what a nice family atmosphere he made us feel welcome and at home. I love feeling at home in a new place. Then we meet the owner Michelle! A very personable man sharing his life with us. His food was soooo good, fresh homemade and yes "We Will Be Back!"
