I was browsing for a lunch spot in Buckner, Kentucky today and although it seemed highly unlikely that I would find one, I stumbled across Delizie Italiane. An Italian cafe in Buckner? Colored me intrigued...and also super surprised. Delizie Italiane is less than a mile from the YMCA, where my daughter had an event today. It has a rustic vibe (it's in a former railroad station), with wood beams and exposed brick. I ordered the Mortadella sandwich, served with ferro wheat salad or fruit. Sandwiches are served on bread from one of our favorites, Blue Dog Bakery. My sandwich consisted of thinly sliced imported mortadella with pistachios topped with lettuce, tomato, sliced Swiss cheese, thinly sliced red onion, and a mild or spicy giardiniera (pickled Italian pepper and vegetable salad) all on a Pugliese roll. I opted for wheat salad. I also tried the homemade minestrone soup (in a beef broth) and my three-year-old's buttered noodles and Parmesan. Sliced bread and oil for dipping was provided for the table. Everything I tasted was phenomenal, fresh, and authentic. To say that I'm pleasantly surprised to find this gem in Buckner is an understatement. The interior was cozy on this rainy day and the service was as warm as the atmosphere. I can't comment too much on the prices (my mother was treating to lunch) but it seemed average based on the menu and below average cost when considering the exceptional quality. It's my understanding that they currently serve breakfast and lunch and also have pop-up dinners. They had several specials posted on the blackboard. This is a business you don't want to sleep on. I live in an area with hundreds of food options with in a few mile radius and I would absolutely drive an extra half hour to revisit Delizie Italiane. I can't wait to work my way through the entire menu.

We were visiting from California and came in on a weekday for breakfast and were astounded. Colby was our server and made us feel like VIPs. The food was outstanding. The egg & prosciutto was delicious. Our favorite was the polenta. We shared an order of French toast and it's something we won't forget. The ambiance felt as if we were in Italy. Wish we had this in LA!

Great lasagna. Quaint setting. Can bring your own wine and no corkage fee. Italian fare is delicious and the desserts are yummy too.

This charming spot offers a…read morespacious patio in the back, perfect for lively gatherings, and a cozy, intimate front patio great for people-watching. Inside you will find a warm and inviting atmosphere with nods to the charming Victorian architecture of Northern KY. My server, Katelynn, was incredibly sweet and attentive, taking time to walk me through the menu and highlight awesome daily specials they have throughout the week. The food...Chef, you are an all-star. The simplest details were nailed. For example, my po'boy had the perfect crispy bread exterior (thanks to Madeline's choosing Blue Dog Bakery bread--smart), but the warm sauce, a mojo rojo, leaked into the airy pollow dough at the center of the baguette and softened it slightly, soaking up all the delicious flavor. The sandwich was a perfect balance of spice from the sausage, tartness from the mayo, and the acidic-bitter contrast of the pickled red cabbage and fennel. I started with the mushroom dip. Again, Chef, it was absolutely wonderful. It had that comforting, creamy texture we all want in a dip but elevated with rich, fragrant mushroom goodness. Perfectly baked with breadcrumbs on top, adding that perfect crunch to dance with the texture of the dip and baguette. Then (I know, this is crazy, but I was genuinely over-excited) I tried the breakfast burrito with bacon. The potatoes had just the write texture, beautifully juxtaposed with the crunch of high-quality bacon--fatty and cripsy--perfectly cooked. The chipotle mayo on top added the a great smokiness and slight heat. Two of my dishes came with simple chopped romaine as a side salad. Looks totally unassuming, but the house-made parmesan dressing was so delicious. And I think this salad perfectly sums up the food here... sounds simple enough, yet wonderfully done. Totally approachable food prepared by someone who clearly knows flavor and has most likely traveled or at least been influenced by global flavors. Are you still reading? I know this is a lot--so go there immediately! But I am going to wrap this up: I also loved my cocktails. Their peach nectar bellini with cava as a wonderful balance of dry and sweet. The tequila, strawberry, jalapeno and cava cocktail was so refreshing with a little bite from the jalapenos. Both entirely my kind of drinks. I love this place and cannot wait to come back. I hope to lose many a sunny day on their patio. Oh, and here are the weekly specials my server mentioned: Tuesday Prix Fixe Wednesday $25 Bottles of Wine Thursday Oyster Night Enjoy!
