Stopped in for a quick bite after the soccer game. Staff was friendly and quick to take our order. Shrimp scampi- shrimp was cold, pasta was good and had a hint of lemon and parmesan. Beef gnocchi were soft and the sauce had a demiglaze beef flavor. Could use more steak bites to round the meal out. Pasta primavera- tomatoes were overwhelmingly taking over the dish, cold and mushy, the peas were good textured, spinach was overcooked and mushy as well. I've been twice (once was a busy Saturday during a NuLu festival and once a weekday around 3pm. I enjoyed sitting at the bar and receiving service but found out on the second trip that is it counter service establishment. They did have a full bar and plenty of seating for both large and small groups. Loved the fresh pasta and house made sauces. My surprise was the gelato which was a large portion that transported me to Italy. They have a great coffee bar as well, so an espresso to end the meal was very welcome! read more

I was really excited to try pasta garage even though I'd heard mixed reviews about it. One friend said it was a mix between Chipotle and Fazoli's. I'm not entirely sure what they meant in regard to the chipotle reference because you don't tell them what you want and watch them make your food ... and I couldn't tell you the last time I went to Fazoli's but I also 8 get it in a weird way. When you are ready to order, you walk up to the counter, place your order and then they give you a number to take back to your table which I don't mind. Sometimes it's nice to have a sit down experience with more speed. I ordered first in our group and did the build your own pasta. I asked for the gnocchi, and was asked what type. They explained they have regular gnocchi, spinach and cheese stuffed gnocchi and caprese stuffed gnocchi. I was intrigued by the spinach and cheese stuffed gnocchi so I ordered that with grilled chicken and Vodka sauce. One of my girlfriend's ordered regular chicken Alfredo and the other got KY shaped pasta (which I love this option) and vodka sauce as well as the kids spaghetti and marinara. When my food came out I wasn't expecting the gnocchi to be fried but it wasn't bad. However the grilled chicken also came out fried and the two together with the sauce made the dish very dry. I think the gnocchi would have been better with a cream sauce and the chicken by itself was really good. My girlfriend did not like the Alfredo and said she couldn't even eat it, I should have tried a bite bc I'm curious. The KY shaped pasta and vodka sauce came out correctly but the kids spaghetti came out as Rotini with Butter instead which he didn't like. We're a pasta-loving family and we were excited to try this place. It's a super cute vibe inside, had lots of space, & wasn't crowded at dinner time on a Wednesday night. The food was very good. We had the bruschetta, the tomatoes were very fresh and tasty, just wish it had more balsamic on them. The wife had the fried lasagna, the sauce was good and lasagna loaded with cheese. I had the chicken picante, I really enjoyed. It had the right amount of lemon in the sauce and the noodles cooked to perfection. They gave you a nice chicken breast with it. We ordered a cannoli to go and it was delicious. Service was great. Food came out hot and fast. The place was not all that busy 4pm on a Sunday afternoon. Kind of wish the tv screens behind the bar had real shows/sports on the, and not just a loop of a videos of the place on both of theTV's. Would have loved to have stayed to watch more of the college basketball if they had that on. So we just quickly ate and left so we could catch the game some place else. I really liked the simple yet inviting decor, and the pasta machine taking center stage was a nice touch, it's always fun to see fresh pasta being made right in front of you. The lighting was warm and comfortable overall, though the front corner of the restaurant was a little too dim. Still, it added to the cozy feel. The restaurant itself was very clean, and the staff were kind and professional. You can tell they either truly enjoy their jobs or at least put on a great game face. Wait Time: This was where the experience really fell apart. We arrived and ordered at 8:12, and by 9:30, not even our appetizer had been served. I finally had to ask the manager where our food was. Waiting over an hour for any food at all is unacceptable, especially when the restaurant wasn't overly busy. Food: Pricing was very fair, two appetizers, two entrees, and two drinks came to $59.20, which is reasonable for the quality they're aiming for. * Meatballs: Cold, dry, and tough. Unfortunately, not enjoyable at all. * Cacio e Pepe: The highlight of the night. It was warm, flavorful, and the pasta was perfectly cooked with a great kick of black pepper. * Bolognese: Disappointing. It was cold, stiff, and bland, as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp for too long. * Fried Lasagna (Appetizer): Oddly, it was the last item to arrive. By late I mean that it was still not coming out by the time we decided to leave. Appetizers should definitely come before the main course, not an over a hour and a half after ordering. Overall: I really hate writing reviews like this, but I believe in being honest. Reviews help both customers and restaurants grow. It's clear Pasta Garage has a lot of potential, the atmosphere and pricing are great, and there are flashes of excellence in the food. However, the kitchen and service timing need serious improvement. I really wanted to like Pasta Garage... We've been super excited to visit Pasta Garage and we were determined to give it a shot even after hearing about poor experiences from neighbors. I got the gnocchi and he got the fettuccini alfredo. We were pleasantly surprised by the prices but when we received our food, we understood why the low price point. The portions are relatively small, the 'breadstick' is a sad piece of focaccia, and the food itself is no better than a frozen meal from the grocery store. The gnocchi, while edible, was fairly salty while the fettuccini Alfredo did not taste like cheese, the sauce was more akin to Elmer's glue. We ate what we could tolerate then sadly walked home to confirm with our neighbors that Pasta Garage is indeed not worth it. read more

When this place first opened in November, the line was out the door and there was an hour wait on a Saturday night. So I decided to try again and was able to get in and get a table pretty quick. I got the carbonara and my partner got the chicken parm! I'd say this is a step up from Olive Garden but not too fancy compared to Grassa Gramma. I was really wanting to like this and couldn't believe that some of the reviews were true but this was not good at all. I wanted a pasta that had chicken but I didn't want the chicken and they wouldn't let me get it without it. A little weird. We ordered two pastas, a gnocchi and a limone. The pasta was way overcooked and mushy and the lemon sauce was fake butter with some kind of weird seasoning. The beef in the gnocchi was rubbery cubes and the sauce had an odd heavy parsley flavor. We only ate about a quarter of each of our dishes. This place is super disappointing and I definitely won't be back. read more

Pasta Garage is now open!!!! They are super busy so have some grace in these first few weeks as they make their start in NuLu. We saw a steady line the entire time we were there. We opted to sit at the bar, purchase a bottle of wine and slowly graze. It was perfection and worth the wait. The meatballs are delicious. The homemade pesto & sauce put them over the top. We had the caprese gnocchi appetizer and it was a flavor bomb!!! The bruschetta was fantastic. We finished with a cannoli which we split. Delightful!!! Love the vibe. Service was very good as they were scrambling to accommodate a large, steady crowd on their 3rd day open. Great addition to our neighborhood. Be patient & kind. Staff is super friendly. It pains me to write this as the food is amazing, but doubling prices for local events without informing customers is scummy. $30 for pasta is gross. I just ordered some gnocchi to-go. Everything appeared normal, but when I went to pick it up, the price was almost double what it normally is. When questioned, the waitress said they increase their prices for Derby and other large events. A chef/kitchen staff member happened to be waiting to talk to her when the conversation was going on. Even he interjected with "We really do that? Wow that's crazy." Though this is a gross business practice, I've seen it done elsewhere in town. However, all of those restaurants are up front about it, and typically reserve the increased pricing for busy periods. I went around 2pm and was one of only 2 people in the building. As much as I love the food, this will be my last time here. I just can't support predatory business practices like this. read more

Yum, we ordered the special bucatini which was a cajun-y cream sauce with chicken cutlet. Was better than the regular chicken parm -- which was still very good. The cashier was sweet and sold us on the special bundle (app, entree, and dessert for 40ish). The starter was the fried ravioli and tiramisu for dessert with two glasses of house red. I truly hate to do this but I've been here 3 times now ( twice dine in and once for to go ) and it's been underwhelming each visit. To start off I've been going to their original Lexington location for many years and love it! Fresh pasta, great portions, and the price isn't bad at all. First thing I've noticed is that the louisville location is higher priced than the lex. I assume this could be bc they make everything there in lex directly but it's a bummer that my build your own is 23 at lex location and 28 in louisville, for the exact same order. Mind you there are options that are cheaper than a build your own. All the dishes I've ordered at the louisville pasta garage have been really bland, barely any sauce on it, and the bread is stale; while at lex it's all so fresh and loaded with sauce, plus the portions seem to be larger there too. I try not to compare but it's difficult bc the difference between the two locations is night and day. I am taking into consideration that this louisville one just opened so it might take awhile for them to get their footing. But if they don't catch up soon I'll unfortunately be recommending only the lex location to people and enjoying that when I'm in the city. So sad bc I've always hoped they would open one here but currently it's just not worth going to, in my opinion that is. It's also worth noting that during one dine in experience our drinks came out after our app and food entrees. Luckily the people I went with said the drinks were great but they didn't appreciate that we didn't even receive them until after our meals had arrived and we all were almost done eating. No one came over to apologize or check on us concerning this either. I would suggest waiting a bit to try this place out so they have time to get everything a bit more under control. I plan to give it another try but if it's still the same then only the Lexington location will be receiving my business. read more

This was some of the freshest and flavorful Italian food I had in a long time. It was not overly salty it was perfectly balanced and delicious. I was really excited to try this new concept as its been getting a lot of buzz and fresh made pasta sounded excellent. I convinced 2 friends to go there and the experience was underwhelming. The space is well appointed (very similar to The Everyday Kitchen which was a former occupant) - comfortable seating and a full bar. You stand in line to order from the cashier and they bring it out to you. looking at the menu the prices seem reasonable, but the portions are "appetizer sized". I was hungry after my $16 meal. I got the pasta bolognese, and while the pasta was fresh, it was not cooked properly (way harder than al dente). Sauce was thin with very little meat, and had to search to find the fresh "parmesan reggiano that is included on top of every order". My included breadstick was hard and stale, any my friend had difficulty even cutting through her chicken piccata dish. I'm not sure if the place will get better with time and I like the concept of fast casual Italian, but there is simply no value here. read more

I have heard great things about their Lexington location, so I was so excited to go check them out and try out their pasta! It did not disappoint! It is a huge space with a ton of seating, and they also have a separate cafe and market area around the corner where you can order coffee and tea and take home their pasta and sauces. Their pasta is made fresh daily in small batches, and they even have a window where you can see into the kitchen where they are making the food. The staff is super helpful with recommendations! I started off with the Italian lemon soda and the fried lasagna! For my pastas, I did the chef's pick option of the chicken piccata and the build your own pasta option with Kentucky shaped pasta, white wine roasted garlic butter, roasted mushrooms, peas, roasted tomatoes, baby spinach, and house cured pancetta! For dessert, I had the tiramisu and classic cannoli! I totally recommend everything that I tried! It all was so delicious and flavorful! read more

We were very excited for a new pasta place in Nulu, but this was pretty bland - we had to add salt and parm to the pomodoro, and the bolognese wasn't anything to write home about. Had high hopes from looking at the review and pics from the Lexington location, but these dishes looked quite different - especially the bread. Location is great, the buildings definitely new and there is a parking lot! We went on a Sunday afternoon (3 PM) not busy at all and plenty of parking. Food was delicious! The bar/staff needs more experience. I don't believe any of the staff had studied their bar menu or had any bar knowledge. For a new restaurant, I would expect a little more. The place is a walk up and order type of deal- so the cashier is the bartender. We asked what wines they had and she just names types of wine- not the actual kind. We asked about signature cocktails and she couldn't answer. She didnt seem to know much english (and I say that as a hispanic woman). It took forever to make the drinks- like we got our appetizer and about 5-7 minutes later we got all four meals! That's not great but I will definitely be back, food was fantastic! read more

I got spinach stuffed gnocchi with an Alfredo sauce and spinach topping as part of the build your own pasta thing. My friend got Kentucky-shaped pasta with Alfredo sauce and spinach, tomato, and grilled chicken toppings. They forgot the tomato. It's v casual. You order at a counter, take a number, and grab your own silverware. They bring your food out, ours took 20 min or so to arrive. Tbh I don't love the food. There was no garlic, no pepper, no seasoning of any kind. Granted, I went off the beaten path with my order. So perhaps the established menu items are better. But overall I just don't think this is for me. You're paying restaurant prices without the service (auto 20% tip at the register just irks me when there's no table side service). Wow! The friendliest staff (and owner) in town! I love when you visit an establishment and the staff is happy you are there and excited to help you! Despite the casual vibe (order at the counter, take a number) all the food is made fresh in house--from all the pastas to the meatballs and breadsticks! For me the portion sizes are perfect (Americans love overflowing huge plates of food) so this feels a little more authentically Italian in that sense. As a guy who just sold his restaurant -- it breaks my heart to read all the reviews about slow service -- as a brand new place takes a few months to find their footing and get the pacing right. These guys are in the right track and I've been several times now and it gets better each time! Delicious, fresh and flavorful with great care in the food creation and customer service.
