I like this location! Peeps are nice and food is good...maybe even better than the one near Kirby Dr. Went here for a late lunch on a weekday and there were lots of people finishing up their plates. If you've never been to any of their locations, this is a counter service type of place. They have lots of parking on the 11th street side of the building. There is a small parking area on Studewood as well..but getting out can be a pain because you have to back out to exit the parking lot. I usually get the buffalo burger but I decided to get the grilled chicken sammich that day. It was really good...juicy and big. My hubs got the fried fish tacos and the slaw was fresh and plentiful. Maybe too plentiful because it was a messy lunch!! The hempanadas were okay. The dough is flaky and looks home made. The stuffing I didn't care for too much because it was sweet from the raisins. But it was not bad...others may like it sweet. Great neighborhoodie type of place and great for outdoor eating so we can people-watch the quirky peeps driving by. read more

My bf and I found ourselves with a free Saturday night recently (one of those rare magical gems), and I didn't feel like cooking, but I didn't feel like having a fancy, lavish dinner, and he was on the same exact page. So we decided to have dinner at Ruggles Green! The counter service restaurant has an open, airy interior. The food menu focuses on fresh, organic, local, healthy ingredients, and offers several gluten-free and vegan options. We decided to split the restaurant's organic spinach dip for our first round of food. The dip is a blend of organic spinach, artichoke hearts, cream cheese, parmesan, goat cheese, white wine, and ricotta cheese, and it's served with a side of kalamata olives, sun-dried tomatoes, and wood-fired flat bread. This utra-rich dip was creamy and decadent, and the use of goat cheese was a very special element. I also loved the inclusion of sundried tomatoes and kalamata olives - Their acidity and tartness cut nicely through the dip and added fantastic textures. And the flatbread was crisp, fresh, and lovely. We really enjoyed this comforting, tasty appetizer! For our main course of food, I ordered the local veggies pizza, and my bf ordered his favorite from the restaurant - the quinoa linguini and and turkey meatballs. The wood-fired pizza was topped with roasted tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini, mushrooms, red onion, garlic, mozzarella, fontina, feta, pesto sauce, baby arugula, and balsamic vinegar. The crust was lightly crisped, yet thick and pillow-y, the various vegetables were incredibly flavorful and complemented one another fantastically, the melty cheeses were subtle and gooey, and the balsamic vinegar added a wonderful hint of sweetness and brightness. I thoroughly enjoyed this pizza! If you're wanting to grab a casual, yet thoughtfully made meal, Ruggles Green is the perfect Houston restaurant for that. A friend recommended we come here for dinner. She wanted something light and said that this place had great salads while I of course was starving so I planned to order some pasta after reading there menu online. Luckily we got there right in time to snag the last parking spot behind the restaurant. I ordered the grilled salmon pasta and a glass of red wine. I have to say my food wasn't anything spectacular. Salmon was a little bland and the pasta dish itself was a little underwhelming. I'm not huge on sweets but we decided to share the white chocolate bread pudding and again I didn't think it was anything I'd come back for. Ruggles Green is super busy restaurant with tons of menu items, but this review is really just meant for the fried honey goat cheese arugula salad. This is one of the best salads I've had in my life! Did you hear that?!? BEST! The salad despite having fried goat cheese, feels light yet filling. I was worried with the combination of fruits and with the goat cheese having honey it would be too sweet, but that was not the case. I used to love the food here but it's definitely gone down in quality. Their fries are clearly no longer freshly cut and seem like frozen fries that they stuck in the oven. The gluten free burger buns look like they arent toasted anymore. I recently came to this Ruggles (actually my first Ruggles experience) because of a coworker recommendation for good food at a fair price with a solid reasonably priced wine selection. Sorry to digress but what is a Ruggle? I am not a huge fan of ordering at the counter as I often feel rushed to make a decision. Coupled with the usual rush, they actually had run out of menus when we arrived and we did not find menus until we were almost at the register. So the clock was really ticking at this point as there were people behind us in line and the restaurant was pretty packed. We managed to pull it together and spat out our order of Mahi Mahi Salad, Salmon Salad, Cuban Sandwich and a bottle of Malbec. Malbec - Decent bottle for about $20, good price for a restaurant and cheaper to split between three people rather than everyone ordering a glass. Salmon Salad - Delicious! Nice and fresh ingredients and the salmon had a little kick to it. Also a hearty portion. Recommended for you to try, especially if you are feeling healthy. Mahi Mahi Salad - No complaints at all. Nice taste and size. Cuban Sandwich - Described as not so Cuban and average. There are lots of other options on the menu so maybe try something different. All in all not bad though, just mediocre. I would go back to Ruggles. I put it at 3 and teetering towards 3.5. read more

Dropped by for lunch with co-workers. Got the pizza which was good but priced a little higher than I thought the value was. It was one of those sizes that you couldn't necessarily share unless you're a twig person watching your figure, but it was maybe one slice too big for one man's belly. (first world problems) My big problem with every Ruggles Green I've been to, including this one, is the lack of seating. You spend five minutes awkwardly shimmying by packed tables with the sad hopeful face on that someone's leaving soon. When people finally get up to go, you're racing two other groups for it and it's never the right size for your party. We had to steal chairs and shift tables to make it work, while other diners watched with horror, but we survived. I'm just not drinking the kool-aid on Ruggles Green, but that very well could be because I'm not impressed by food repackaged as local, organic, healthy, etc. especially when it isn't ll that good. It's not a terrible restaurant by any means but it isn't anything I'll rave about either. Good place to grab a bite if not busy (rare) and if you're hungry for dressed up regular food. read more

OH. MY. GAWD! Clean eating sanctuary! I feel bad that it took me this long to eat here, but I've finally become a believer and a frequenter. This is another spot that my trainer allows me to eat in and I take full advantage of that. My first time going my friend and I ordered a bunch of things to try and loved everything. We had a curry chicken salad, turkey lettuce wraps, quinoa mac and cheese, and cauliflower. We stuffed ourselves family style, and still had some salad greens left over to nibble on later. The mac and cheese and lettuce wraps were our favorite, and I go back tomorrow to try more menu items. This was my first time coming to Ruggles period and I am glad I finally visited. They have a nice selection of salads, burgers, entrees, pizza, desserts, etc which sorta reminds me a little of Black Walnut Cafe, although probably a little more creative and more geared toward the health conscious or special dietary customers. This location has a small parking lot along Studewood and a much larger one they share with the church along 11th Street. Their daily specials were posted along the outside wall, near the entrance, and also on a plexiglass partition right before you reach the registers. There was only a small 5 minute wait in the line to order food and I was able to find a table right after leaving the drink station. In small jars at the soda station are homemade pickles and a tangy sauce, so make sure you grab some of those. I stuck with an item that was on the menu, since that's usually a safe bet. I ordered the spicy shrimp pasta and at $15, I thought it was pretty tasty and fairly priced. It wasnt very spicy to me and it came with spaghetti noodles, lots of roasted tomatoes, bell peppers, capers and a tomato cream sauce among other things. There were 3 different kinds of cheeses in my dish as well, but it was not at all chessy, thankfully. I also sampled the salmon pasta and this dish was excellent as well...maybe a bit better with the linguini pasta and pesto as the sauce. Will definitely have to return to try other entrees along with the desserts. Love that they have Maine Root Root Beer at the soda fountain. read more

Overpriced. Tastes like cafeteria food with fresh ingredients. I paid $3.11 for these tiny two Turkey sausage links. The kale salad could come from a $3.99 bag at Kroger and the chicken ceasar wrap tastes like the cheap one at Starbucks that's been sitting out all day. I've been here several times and the first time I enjoyed the breakfast immensely. Do yourself a favor and don't eat here for lunch or dinner. Stick to breakfast. read more

Finally got to try this place! This place is well laid out with an outdoor seating option and decent sized parking lot. What an ambience! Simply loved it! I went with a couple of friends for brunch on a Saturday noon. The place was crowded, however, we did not have to wait long to place an order and get a table. I ordered the veggie nut burger and iced mocha. I usually don't like iced coffee, but the weather was too hot for me to get otherwise. Service and staff were super friendly. I liked my burger, specially the sauce that came with it. The sweet potato fries were good as well. Tres Leches was topped with a generous dollop of fresh cream and decorated with berry & mango sauces. The dessert came with vanilla ice cream on the side. Isn't that a double treat? This is a great little spot nestled in the Heights. The building is nice with a decorative inside dining area and an outdoor patio space. I ordered the brick chicken which was phenomenal and was some of the best chicken I've ever had. It comes with a side of roasted vegetables and sweet potatoes. I subbed the regular sweet potatoes for the sweet potato fries, which is my favorite side dish here. I've also had the bison burger, which was cooked perfectly and was very tasty as well. It's a great place if you're looking for a quicker place to get a meal. You can also call ahead and pick up your meal, which makes it very convenient as well. They have lots of outdoor seating as well. Food is very good here, I've barely heard anyone complain when I take them here! My favorite dish is definitely the spicy chicken tacos. These aren't really spicy at all in my opinion, but do have a great well-seasoned flavor. I usually make 4 smaller tacos out of the two big ones they give you. I've recently tried the Cuban panini which was impressive! Pastas are yummy and tend to be great if you're lookin to get 2 meals out of a dish. The hempanadas are good but no where as good as buttery argentine empanadas from elsewhere. This location also has brunch (I believe it is the only location). My favorite reason though for coming to Ruggles is for the little side cookie they give when you order an espresso beverage. It looks like a little mini alfajor made with shortbread cookie and dulce de leche inside. This little cookie is to die for. I love dipping it in my latte. I always want another one! Their parking lot is very tiny with somewhere around 8 spots, I believe you may park at the church next door during certain non-church hours, but this means it's tricky if you're coming here for Sunday brunch! read more

This is my absolute FAVORITE restaurant in all of Houston. There are so many things to love about this place. 1. The BEST food. Their options are fabulous (vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.) They have such a large menu for so many different tastes. And they have one of the BEST veggie burgers in town + their sweet potato fries are delicious! 2. Friendly staff - Their staff is always so friendly + willing to help! Their bussers are always fast and kind. 3. SUPER CLEAN - Bathrooms are awesome, tables are cleaned in a very timely manner, and I have never seen the restaurant messy. 4. Awesome Patio - They have one of my favorite patios in the area. There is plenty of seating outside. They also have fans outside to help you keep cool on the hot days, and they have coverings for when it rains! It's always nice people-watching on the patio. 5. Great dessert - If you haven't tried their carrot cake, stop what you're doing right now and go get some. 6. Awesome management - This is my favorite Ruggles location which I go to often, and I recently had something weirdly wrong with my burger. I notified the manager, and they were so quick to fix the problem. They gave me a refund, along with a free dessert card. First note: I had a tip here about "cucumbers for my water, yay!" I think those cucumbers are actually meant to be their pickles!!! lol Try it if you want I guess. We live in the hood and love this spot as a relatively inexpensive (considering all the local, organic-y goodness they offer with the portion sizes given) restaurant with lots of options that anyone can find something they like. The staff is always super friendly and accommodating. It can get super crowded so we tend to go in the off hours. My favorite thing considering this stage in my life, is that they clearly label all of the allergen free options (going dairy free while nursing my newborn). We ran into a neighbor there the other day and he made the point that Ruggles was the only place you could be 100% sure that if they said it was dairy free, it meant that it was dairy free. We ordered the burger with quinoa side and the cuban with the sweet potato fries. There was a sign saying that Ruggles Green had been voted best sweet potato fries for 2013, and they weren't kidding. They were really good! The quinoa salad was fresh and a nice alternative to heavier side items. The burger was a burger, nothing particularly special (had to dress it with ketchup and mustard). Our bill was ~$22 and we both had half our meal to take home. Generally speaking, I'm a big fan of their salads and sides. Everything else I've had is a bit ho-hum including their burgers and pizzas. I did have their dairy/gluten free espresso chocolate cake. It was $8 (!) but hot dog it was super rich. It was definitely too rich to eat in one hour period (that's how I roll though, oink oink). I recommend portioning that out to two or three desserts which brings the cost per experience down :) read more

I was here with my family - party of 6 including kids. It's a walk up order at the counter type restuarant. You order at the counter and then sit down. A server delivers the food to your table once it's ready. I got a roasted vegetable panini. It was ok, but I saw other people's salads and sort of wished I got one of those. Silver war was being washed, so my friend had to wait a little not for some clean ones.
