I was married over Labor Day weekend at the Island House, and I couldn't have imagined a more perfect wedding. Of course the venue (and that view!) are incredible, but what really put the event over the top was the amazing staff and catering. My event specialist was Venessa, and she was AMAZING. Throughout the planning process I found her to be incredibly responsive and she was great about helping me to execute my vision. My bridal attendant, Renee, was equally awesome, and made sure my husband and I were on schedule and had everything we needed. A large portion of our out of town guests were New Yorkers with very high standards and everyone is still raving about both the food and the location. I had my ceremony and reception at the Belle Mer a few weeks ago. I was so pleased with everything they did for my wedding day. I started working with their wedding coordinator months before my wedding. She worked to make my vision into a reality on my wedding day. She was there the entire wedding day to make sure that everything was running smoothly and organized the timeline of events. In addition, the place is just a gorgeous setting. My brother and his beautiful bride chose this venue for their black tie wedding. Gorgeous setting. The weather unfortunately did not hold up for their outdoor ceremony. So, the planner had to quickly orchestrate moving the ceremony inside while 200+ guests were "forced" to stay in a confined area without seats or water. Many guests had to wait outside in the rain because there wasn't enough room inside. The bar tender standing at the bar wouldn't even serve water to the waiting guests and throughout the night was rude. Being a part of the bridal party, I often couldn't get to the bar to get a drink for myself or the bride, and when my husband would ask for 2 drinks, they told him no and that he had to get in line again to get another drink! In my personal opinion, when you are paying six figures for a wedding, the word "no" should not be in the vocabulary of the staff members. It's unfortunate because there were many lovely staff members and the few that were rude left a pretty horrible taste in many of the wedding attendees mouths. The staff is in need of some serious education on etiquette and hospitality. That being said, the food was delicious and the venue is beautiful. read more

My daughter got married here 9/20/14. We couldn't have been more pleased. Steven and the girls treated us like royalty. They catered to our evey request. They consistently asked if there was anything we needed or wanted all day long. We didn't have to think about a thing. You cannot beat the view. The food was delicious. It was the wedding my daughter dreamed of, and she got what she wanted. Steven called a couple of vendors for me when I started to get nervous about their late arrival. He kept me calm. We held a rehearsal dinner and welcoming party in the Island House. The setting on the bay is gorgeous and the ambiance and service were exquisite. The main meal and cocktail party food were both terrific. Our liaison, Steven James Popko, was a pleasure to work with and he co-ordinated seamlessly with the other proprietors (flowers etc.), resulting in a perfect evening. I have never written a review or "testimonial" about anything before in my life, but I felt compelled to write about my amazing experience at Belle Mer in Newport, RI! I got married at Belle Mer at the end of June and I can not rave about this venue enough! My experience was PERFECT from the moment I walked through the doors until the moment I reluctantly walked out of the doors at the end of our wedding night!! As soon as we walked in and saw the venue, we cancelled all other appointments we had that day and signed the contract right then and there. The sales manager I worked with when we first booked Belle Mer, could not have been more sweet, professional, and helpful the entire time I worked with her! She offered excellent suggestions and recommendations for vendors and answered all of my questions immediatly and with pleasure! Later in the process as I got closer to my wedding date, I was assigned a Lead Event Manager who handled more or less every detail of the day for me! He was also remarkable!! He was so organized for me and was on top of every detail from recommendations for the food and alcohol, the seating arrangements, to the flow and order of the day! He was also there the day of the wedding to make sure the bridal party and parents and vendors were all where they were supposed to be and when and to make sure everything went off without a hitch or if it didn't to make sure I didn't know about it! :) He was so professional and nice without even the slightest air of pretension, which you might think you would encounter at a place as nice as Belle Mer. The day of the wedding, Belle Mer even had someone who shadowed my husband and I getting us drinks, food, bustling my dress, fixing my hair.. she was amazing!! TOP OF THE LINE SERVICE!! The wedding day itself was PERFECT!! Everything from the food to the service to the ambience and view!! Everyone of my guests said that it was one of the best weddings they have ever been to and while I am biased.. I truly believe they meant it! ;) I also know that while it was largely the company it was also mainly the venue and location they were referring to! :) Belle Mer allowed me to have the wedding of my dreams! I couldn't have asked for more!! I highly recommend any bride to be who is looking for a wedding venue to go look at Belle Mer. The location and venue itself are gorgeous, but the people and service are what make it unforgettable! They do book pretty far in advance so go and look soon after you are engaged. Belle Mer is THE PLACE to have your wedding. It is absolutely worth every penny. I was married there a little less than 72 hours ago and I already miss Stuart my event coordinator. Everyone was amazing,food,atmosphere,service was outstanding. I wish that I could work there so I could be apart of their team. When my husband and I first went there to check out the venue I knew that I had to be married on site and in the Salon. Financially it was about 20,000$$ more than we wanted to spend but it was worth it. Karl and I sat at a sweatheart table and just soaked in the whole atmosphere. We both agreed at that moment it was worth everything. Words can not describe how amazing that night was for us both. Although the wedding itself was 6-7 hours (we paid extra to extend it), We will have the rest of our lives to remember that fabulous celebration! All the service and attention made it worth every penny. I love Stuart the event coordinator so much that I was debating canceling the wedding, working there and being with Stuart! HAHA j/k But the joke shows you how much I loved Stuart, he was so helpful and kind. They let the band play loud and let me have however many girls up in the loft at the salon. We were able to have our dogs in the wedding! everything we wanted they worked to get done! And if they couldn't do it, they tried hard. I LOVED EVERY MOMENT OF IT! read more

I just went to a wedding at Belle Mer and I must say, my experience did not start out all that great. We arrived about 30 minutes early and when we approached a rather pretentious woman in front of the gate with an earpiece (secret service style) and a clip board, we were told that we would could not enter. Not only that, they did not have a bar, a waiting area, or even a bench! So there we were, standing in the parking lot for 20 minutes. Finally we were allowed in. I must say, the views of the bay are absolutely gorgeous but the views of the building itself were not so good. As I sat there on the lawn chairs i could see the wedding party in the area above the reception space. I could also see how badly the windows and areas around them were in need of a paint job!! Paint was peeling all over them. Very unattractive. The wedding ceremony was lovely and like I said, the views were stunning. After the wedding we all filled into the reception venue. Hors d'oeuvres were passed by teenage girls and boys. Certainly not professional waitstaff. When we were finally ALLOWED into the dining area (lots of being told where we could and couldn't go at any one time) it too, was very beautiful with more beautiful views. The food, however, was just okay. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a five. And again, it was delivered by teenagers - not a professional waitstaff. They were so unprofessional that the table next to us asked us for our leftover bread because they had eaten all of theirs and was told by one of the teenagers that they couldn't have any more. Wha? Then my mother was told that she could not have here meal wrapped to go because they did not have any to-go containers. Really?! The final straw were these goofy guys walking all over the entire reception are with - you guessed it - secret service earpieces. When I asked one of them to move so I could take a picture of the bride and groom he just ignored me. As if he were guarding the president or something. So ridiculous. Like I said, the views were tremendous but the food, the service, and the mock secret service were incredibly so-so. read more

Attended my niece's wedding here. Everything was impeccable. The location and setting on the Bay is beautiful, with big windows overlooking the water. The rooms are big and cheerful done in white on white. The food was delicious, service was excellent, all of the servers were efficient, really pleasant and even fun. It helped make the happy occasion go really well. Favorite appetizers were the kobi meatballs, pork belly and chicken Florentine. I didn't think I could eat dinner, the appetizers were so delicious and plentiful. For dinner there was a tasty salad, the I had the halibut which was served in a light sauce on a bed of roasted potatoes surrounded by steamed asparagus Spears. I shared a few tastes of the beef entree, a petit filet and short ribs. Either way you could not go wrong. Dessert was a baby cheesecake topped with strawberry compote. I'd gladly go back any time. read more
