WOW! I've been trying to get my wife to go here for at least six months. I felt certain this was a special place from all I'd read (and seen in pictures) about it. Finally, we went there yesterday. We both ordered a fried shrimp sandwich, her also getting a chocolate chip/something else cookie, me two oysters. On just barely taking my first bite into the sandwich I fully realized I had been correct about this being a great restaurant! All I had tasted at that point was just the bun, and it was wonderous. The shrimp are larger than you'd expect, and there are a lot of them in the sandwich. The bread is fantastic, them making their own on site I gather. The sandwich is quite filling too, and for the quality of it and it being as large as it is, it is an absolute steal for how it is priced! The sandwich was simply exquisite. My oysters were great too. Surprising me, she said she wasn't sure if she'd get the cookie again, but she didn't finish it, so took it with her. About an hour later she was sitting in the car when she dropped the cookie, it landing on the floor mat. The floor mats hadn't been cleaned in several years, but she still ate the cookie anyway. So, I'll let you decide what she thought of it. We probably will be up there next week for a dinner. And we will doubtlessly be frequenting this place a lot now that I finally got her to try it. read more

We made reservations at Bellflower for both of our kids' graduation dinners and a birthday brunch. Bellflower was excellent for all of these occasions. The oysters are fantastic, the catfish and trout were prepared super well, and the mussels were delicious. I love their appetizer options, especially the tinned fish with crackers and bread. Cocktails are delicious, service is warm and friendly, and the portions are generous enough for leftovers the next day. This will become one of our go-tos especially for special occasions. read more

Today we finally got the sandwich I had had my eye on--the shrimp and oyster po'boy. It was everything I had hoped for and more! Delicious, juicy shrimp and succulent oysters, all fried in the tastiest, light breading that even managed to stay crispy despite the drive from Ypsi to Ann Arbor! This sandwich is stacked with lettuce, tomato, onion, Bubbie's pickles, Duke's mayonnaise and vinaigrette, all on their freshly house baked bread. And the value! This huge sandwich was a mere $11. I feel guilty not finishing it all because it was so good and such a value. But it's also very big and filling, and I just couldn't' do it all today. Valentine's Day lunch in Ann Arbor was disappointing. We've had the shrimp sandwich here at the end of summer and it was to die for...delicious. But today's lacked the delicious taste we had waited for all week. Can't really say what was different...perhaps the sauce on the sandwich, I'm not sure but we have always had the best meals here every other time. I visited Bellflower on Valentine's Day without a reservation, looking for a table for 4. Being so close to my home in Superior Township was a bonus, sparing me the long drive to Detroit, Plymouth, or Ann Arbor for a 5-star dining experience, especially on a weekday with a young child waiting at home. I found out about this place through the YDL Facebook page, where a local chef's accolades and Louisiana cuisine caught my attention. We were seated promptly around 7:30/8pm, and upon entering, the cozy ambiance and meticulous attention to detail immediately impressed me. The extensive drink menu was a hit at our table, allowing everyone to savor something new; from the delightful absinthe to the bourbon flight and Valentine's Day drink. Our order included the Catfish dinner, boudin plate, mussels, oysters, and shrimp cocktail. While the catfish was slightly under-seasoned for our liking, the boudin plate stole the show with its incredible flavors. The mussels were a hit with my friend, and despite slow service, our waitress (sporting short black hair and a mask near the bar) was a delight. The upscale ambiance and unique food offerings at Bellflower left a lasting impression on me, and I look forward to returning for lunch. I started this review as soon as my partner said, "ah yeah!" followed by a big sigh with the first sip of his mojito! We've had a little trouble lately in the mojito dept, but our waiter Amin assured us the bar was stocked with fresh mint and that my husband would love Bellflower's version. Right on the money, Amin! He did! I ordered the Ypsi Local Honey-the perfect blend of Arbor Spring gin, Michigan honey, fresh lemon and lavender syrup. When in Ypsi! It was a great summer drink (and I'm not even gin fan) - tart, aromatic, sort of like drinking a flower garden. Food was phenomenal, even though my husband's etouffee was more work than expected. Crabs, shrimp and crayfish all required peeling once they arrived steaming at the table. But the payoff for his effort was a scrumptious, finger-licking good dinner! Thank goodness it came with a bowl for shells and a wet wipe! I had the Vegetable Curry which had just a hint of a spicy kick and was loaded with carrots, okra and lentils (along with some other of their best veggie friends). We finished it off with burnt custard for dessert. That's its name, not a dis on the talent of the chef! Think creme brulee. It was delicious and perfectly caramelized in top.. Bellflower focuses on fresh ingredients and sets their daily menu accordingly. Which means each visit you could be treated to a different menu. The entrance on Pearl Street is definitely understated. It is directly across from the Ypsilanti Transit Center which means you'll likely hear and smell buses arriving and departing, but that won't interfere with you dining experience because the main dining room is all the way in the back, down a long hallway which is open to the kitchen and the sandwich counter area. Say hi to everyone as you pass if they don't say hi to you first. It's a friendly place! The hostess was super welcoming and made us feel comfortable and well taken care of instantly. We also noticed the wait staff helping each other out (and thanking each other) throughout the evening. We love to see that kind of camaraderie! Outdoor dining is also available. From the outside, you really have no idea what a treat you are in for, both food-wise and service-wise. What I liked about Bellflower, in addition to the excellent food, drink and service, was how clean and uncluttered it is. Crisp white walls, simple decorations of cool art and colorful woven baskets were just right. Even the bathrooms were spotless, bright and tastefully decorated. We had a delightful meal at Bellflower yesterday and we thoroughly enjoyed every dish. We started with a main dish for an appetizer shared for the three of us, a wonderfully prepared serving of Mussels. They were perfectly cleaned and cooked in a very tasty bullion. While we were waiting we sampled the cocktails that shined just as brightly as the dinner, the root awakening and Ypsi local honey were particularly good. For our mains had the trout, Big Eye tuna, and Pork chops and all three were outstanding. Lastly we had the bread pudding that was the perfect cap on a delightful meal. We sat at the bar and the bar tender gave us very good Service and made outstanding cocktails. The restaurant is very nicely put together and the open kitchen is beautiful to watch and interesting to see Chef Dan at work. I've been following them on social media and Bellflower has been on my Must-try list for awhile. So, when I had to pick a restaurant for our anniversary dinner, I knew where I wanted to go. Happily, they lived up to the hype and my expectations. One plus is that they are open for dinner on Monday when many places are closed. The decor is very classy both inside and outside on the covered patio. It was a beautiful evening (during the Delta surge) so the patio was pretty full for a Monday night. Our waiter, Ken, was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I also appreciated that he wore a mask (even though not all employees did). Everyone was friendly and seemed to care that we were enjoying our meal. The wine list had many interesting and unusual choices (pinot gris from Slovenia?) with several available by the glass. We started with the housemade, hot-from-the-oven Milk Bread with scallion butter. Delicious and well worth the $6 that they charge for it. I had heard that their fish is very good so I had the Whole cornmeal trout with sautéed bell peppers and piccallili. Excellent! They had brought me some hot sauce (just in case), but I didn't use it because I didn't want to cover up the flavors in my meal. My husband had the perch with confit potatoes and his perch was also very good. Since it was a special occasion we would have ordered dessert, but they only had one dessert and we weren't in the mood for creme brûlée. I imagine that in a post-covid world that doesn't have staff shortages, more desserts will be available. We also went here for lunch a few weeks ago. Lunch is very different with no table service and only sandwiches on the menu. During lunch, you order and pay at the counter, pick a seat, and they bring the food out to you. Wow! What a great restaurant ! After reading the reviews, we were still pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. Can't say enough about how well chosen and interestingly prepared the dishes were. We dined outside on their patio, a quiet peaceful area and enjoyed the evening's breezes. This place is a gem. The chef is sooo talented. Food 5:5 We would love to give the food more than 5 stars. The menu is inventive and the food was prepared just right. It was hard to choose from the menu full of fresh ideas. We finally decided to try the -Ham steak with bok choy and blueberries -smoked pork chop with peaches -chicken dinner with stuffing and fruit -cornmeal trout with fruit and greens. Everything was delicious. What a treasure in Ypsilanti! We want to come back to try the clams, shrimp, curry, and spaghetti. Dessert was a nice custard. The food came quickly and was done perfectly. Service 5/5 On entering we were seated quickly by James (I think I heard his name correctly. ) He honored our request for an outdoor table. Our server, Lenny, was outstanding! Update to my previous experience: This time around I want much more pleased with my dish, I got the skirt steak which came rare and was prepared stunningly. It was accompanied by large sweet potato planks that had a yummy little crispy coat to them with apple butter. As a Michigander it's hard to resist the temptation of apple butter, as you may know. This dish also had a raw element on the plate (radish), while it was pleasant and fresh, I don't think it added to the experience like the other items did. My dinner buddy got the Campanelle pasta which was in a creamy basil sauce and topped with almonds. The pasta was perfectly Al dente and the sauce was lovely, texture and all. For starters I revisited the pimento cheese which was as delicious as I remembered and we also got the smoked trout salad that had lovely homemade croutons and a light dressing. Honestly loved it. "These are some of the best scallops I have ever had," I said to my partner in crime at least twice before the waiter came to ask how our meal was and I said it a third time. A lucky new find via Instagram, Bellflower recently opened in Ypsi, but you would never be able to tell. The interior, menu, and service are so on point that it feels like a place that has been a well-oiled machine for more than the 3 or so days that it had been open when I visited. We headed over on a balmy weeknight to check the place out. Our meal started with the roasted oysters, which had a great punch with garlic, lemon, and some herbs in a buttery base over the mollusks. With a Bibb salad tossed in a mustard vinaigrette in the side, it made a perfect start to the meal. For the entree I was torn between the boudin sausage and the scallops. I ordered the scallops and partner in crime ordered the boudin, and we shared the meals. Scallops won hands down. Perfectly cooked with a buttery texture and flavor, it was perfectly accented with the sprinkling of peanuts, roasted carrots, and the tangy slaw, which reminded me a little of Pad Thai. If you're considering ordering them, do yourself a favor and go for it! The boudin was good, although I think I liked the cream sauce that it came in and the okra even better than the boudin itself. The restaurant's sommelier recommended wine for our entrees, and the one that I had already ordered (a Gruner Veltliner under the sparkling wines) was her recommendation. Not only did it competent to the meal perfectly, the fact that I had already chosen it made me start to think that I could side hustle as a somm someday. We rounded out the meal with a final sip -- wine for the partner and a Mocktail for me, the Garden Bee. It was the first time I had had a drink made with the Seedlip spirits. It lacked a little of the "oomph" of a regular drink (tasted a little watered down), but the presentation in the elegant little goblet with a slice of lemon gave it a festive feel for the end of the meal. There's no place quite like Bellflower in Ypsi, making it a real standout on the dining scene there. If your next night out calls for something extra special, Bellflower is sure to impress you as much as it did me. read more

Bellflower was one of my first times dining in Ypsilanti, and I am now convinced the area is a hidden foodie's gem. It is a small eclectic establishment with a open kitchen that is upfront and apparent. I love how there's no hiding anything and you genuinely can watch your food go from pan to plate if you desired. The eating space gave me neighborhood living room vibes. The food was fantastic. The seafood chowder was noticeably sublime, and genuinely better than many dishes I've had in coastal towns. So oceanic and well seasoned with a very big portion! I left so stuffed and satisfied. The staff were more than friendly and very attentive. I will definitely be back soon! read more

So hubby and I went out to dinner (first time trying dinner). A little super disappointed that they had a few vegetarian options, but not one vegan option. This place is amazing.. so we didn't get fancy with our drinks although we will next time! That bar looks amazing! It was 5 o'clock somewhere but my husband was not cooperating with my "right way of thinking" so i was stuck with tea! The sandwiches were more then what i thought they would be.. i should have known when i saw them cutting the bread (open concept kitchen). The bread had a great crunch shrimp and oysters were fried to perfection... the pork was fried as well.. not what i expected but was greatly surprised! They have a ton of different kinds of chips to go with the sandwiches. We tried some we wouldn't normally try..which were glad we did since we stalked them from someone else's table :) Now that we are in love with there lunch tab we are definitely making it out for dinner! read more

This is my 3rd time visiting them and some items on the menu are very good when some other one doesn't belong there. example: trout was excellent : great cooking technique, delicious sides , amazing look but the pork chop were not at all prepared or paired correctly: chewy meat , awful side, my plate look like a breakfast dish from a Coney Island !! Come on back of the house guys The atmosphere is pretty cool on the patio. Came here based on a recommendation after visiting town for a tattoo appointment and glad we stopped in! You order up front and they bring the food and drinks to you at your table once it's made (unless you're grabbing something out of the cooler) The sandwiches are SUBSTANTIAL and mine was extremely yummy. We came on a weekday around lunchtime and it was very calm and casual. I was surprised that they had a full bar- so this would probably be a great place for dinner or even just wine/beer/cocktails. I am from Indianapolis and discovered this restaurant a little over a year ago. My fiancé and I have come to this restaurant specifically, 5 times since March of last year. We have never found another restaurant like Bellflower. I have eaten at many unique restaurants across the country and I seriously would rate Bellflower at my #1. We recently attended the Dual in Detroit game and saw they were hosting their second ever brunch so we had to reserve a table. As soon as we got to the area we stopped for a Buffalo fried shrimp sandwich on their amazing milk bread and a bowl of their unique gumbo that was so delicious for lunch. That Sunday we enjoyed our pre-wedding anniversary brunch at Bellflower with some oysters and a few other amazing dishes and it was the best brunch I think either of us have had. This is one of the BEST restaurants in the Midwest if not the country. I would highly recommend stopping here for lunch, dinner, or maybe even a new brunch option when they have available on Sundays. read more

Very good food - I've not been for dinner, but their lunch counter offerings are solid. Sandwiches are creative and savory, but there is entirely too much bread (it's SO thick and heavy). I do have to say it is INCREDIBLY loud in their dining area to the point you can't really carry on a conversation without shouting. They could improve this by adding some sound proofing panels to the ceiling. We would go back more often if the noise level was bearable. read more

I'm so glad they are open during COVID, with limited seating. My husband and I when out for dinner for his birthday. We haven't been out to eat-in dinner in over a year. Bellflower was Covid correct, all of the staff wore masks, they had a contact tracing sign-in sheet, and six feet apart seating. Now, let talk about the delicious meal. My husband and I shared the Whole Dorade: mussels, striped bass, yellow mole, cactus and okra with basmati rice potatoes, eggplant, lentil gravy and yogurt. It was so delicious. The only thing is that I'm a stickler about making sure my food is hot and unfortunately it was not hot, somewhat warm. But it's was all good.
