1. Bellhop did not a cancel - they NO SHOWED. 2. We even exchanged texts to confirm they were coming the night before. 2. There was absolutely nothing unsafe about the condition of our home, which you determined when you first scheduled the move and I disclosed every bit of information surrounding the circumstances of our move. What actually happened: We called Bellhop for a last minute move, and they agreed (up-charged an arm and a leg but we were in a bind so we went with it). We let Bellhop know the circumstances behind our move - we had a pipe burst. It was definitely 100% safe, as safe as any move could be, and they agreed (fans were put in immediately and it had JUST happened so there was no risk of mold + the structure of the home was completely safe and unharmed). Bellhop no showed on us, and then instead of taking responsibility when we called to ask where they were, they transferred us from one person to another until finally, after over an hour, they said our house was unsafe so they were canceling. It is clear what happened... Bellhop delayed while they scrambled for an excuse that fit within their guidelines. They should have never promised that they could take on our last minute move (48 hr notice) when they just did not have the resources to deliver. Bellhop wanted a chance to charge us a silly amount if they could make it happen, with no regard to the position it put us in when they couldn't deliver. All is well that ends well. My wife and I had a very short move. Just upstairs to a third floor apartment. We called a moving company (will spare their name for this review.... they will definitely get their review later) Anyway they were booked well in advance. Move day (Saturday) came we prepared well, kept the path clear so they could do the heavy lifting unimpeded. They did not show. Would not answer our calls. We HAD to be out Sunday. Sunday rolls around they still will not respond. I called Bellhops. I was told that today was short notice but they would try find us a crew. Not ten minutes later I was called by Eric! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! The worst customer experience. I scheduled Bellhops to move a desk from the first floor of my home to the second floor. They confirmed my appointment via email the evening before the move. They were supposed to arrive at 5:00 pm; however at 4:33 pm, I received an email stating that my appointment was canceled and I should call within the hour to reschedule. I called the number in the email three times. Each time I listened to hold music for several minutes and then was disconnected. I called the number I used to schedule the appointment and my call was picked up right away. I explained the situation. The man on the phone apologized and said someone would call me back within 5 minutes. Well, it's now an hour and a half later and I have not heard from anyone. Had great movers help me move my stuff into a truck! They were both cool guys and met at the apt and took care of business. I enjoyed how modern this service is, I just clicked to approve their time when they were done and then everything else was taken care of (and I could tip online via credit card since I only had $5 each in cash on hand to give them). That made me feel good. Great job for college students like these guys, very friendly and professional. Weekend rates for Austin were $100/hr vs the $90/hr advertised on Thumbtack. The movers were quick and efficient. The problem comes from after one of the drivers broke one of the supports for my dining table. I understand that things happen when moving and was okay when they told me someone would reach out to make it right. Without asking any questions they offered $60. When I let them know that it would be $260 to replace it they told me they pay $0.60 per pound in compensation. It's not acceptable to have a flat rate for paying for damaged goods from the movers. This is my second time using bellhops. Last time was February of 2018, so it's been two years. And my first experience was so good that I sought them out again. And this time? I am even happier with my movers than before if possible. It wasn't an easy move, as it was rather last minute and due to external circumstances, but they helped work with me on how to best proceed and got it all done in under an hour. They were both, Eric G (my captain/lead for this move) and Eric M, great guys and very positive folks. I don't like moving, and I hope I don't have to move again for a while, but if I do? I'm Def seeking out bellhops again! Even the customer service rep I used to book my move was amazing in January. I think his name was James? Great guy. Wow is all I can say! I bought a groupon for half off the first hour. For some reason this coupon ended up doubling and even more. Basically I paid less than $80 for 2 hours of moving help. (Plus a fat tip for each bellhop) So for that I can't complain at all. The bellhops worked hard and knew how to load a trailer, which helps. My dresser did get scratched up, but that was probably from driving everything over (it happens) I won't have to use these guys again or if I do it will be a long time, but I wouldn't hesitate to again! read more

Let me tell you....Bellhops in Austin IS as good as it gets! I am so glad I found them. I was moving my daughter out of her third floor apartment (no elevator) on a hot and HUMID Austin day. These guys, Andrew, Onye and Charles were on time, professional and so careful. They went straight to work! We hit a little bump in the road when we discovered the truck I rented wasn't going to be large enough. While we went to get an additional trailer, they took the initiative to move everything downstairs so it was ready to load when we got back. I am so impressed with these boys. I booked Bellhops to unload in Dallas as well. They were just as good as the Austin group, but I've written a separate review on that page. Be aware that Bellhops does not furnish dollies, moving pads or actual moving trucks. They are purely the muscle in this equation. And good muscle at that. As much as we like the hard working team provided by the Bellhop service, the driver was late and so are a few of the movers. These are obviously college kid working for money and definitely would not recommend these as professional movers. The progress was slower than our previous move and the entire process took an hour longer than it needs to be. Dining set, TV stand, dresser and China cabinet all had nicks and scratches. The China cabinet literally fell part but they did help us move into a corner spot to hold it up for repair. These are hard working kids but just enough professionalism to recommend. read more

I had rented a truck for my move and was prepared to bribe my friends with pizza and beer to get some help loading the truck... luckily I didn't have to and I still have friends. I found Bellhops on Thumbtack and honestly - booking the service was the best thing I could have done. Hector and Jonathan were on time and ready to start, they jumped right in. Hector came in - took a quick look around and said that it shouldn't take much longer than 2 hours and they ended up finishing the job in 2 hours. I was in a third floor apartment in Austin at the end of July - this wasn't an easy job but they handled it with no problem. Extremely impressed by the quality of service Bellhops provides. Eric and Sabdiel worked quickly but still took extremely good care of my items, especially those that are difficult to move up and down stairs. As millennials, my wife and I figured there is no way we are going to move on our own. Plus, our other young professional friends work 80 hours a week. The natural decision was to look for the cheapest moving company in town. Since 25% of our income goes to food (see the new article of millennials spending much of their budget on eating out), we needed an affordable option. Hector and Sam knocked the move out of the park. The moment I knew they were good was when I left for 10 minutes to drop something off at the new house. I returned to an entire bedroom and living room packed up neatly into the van. In terms of payment, Bellhops as an organization takes care of its employees by matching tips (I believe). Furthermore, I appreciate the lower minimum moving times than most. My wife and I barely scratched an hour and a half (due to the moving efficiency), and they charged us a very fair price. Give Bellhops a shot. In a market where services and practically anything to do with driving can be sold (i.e. groceries, rides, meals), this company does the job right. read more

I'll start off by disclaiming that I made a mistake in booking ATT installation the same day I had movers scheduled, so I needed to cancel Bellhops same day. That's my bad. However, this is certainly not a brand trying to build loyalty. I think it's going to be pretty common that people may need schedule moves and not be able to be present at both the site of the move and the location of the new home on the same day. Additionally, I live pretty minimally, so I had less than one hour's worth of stuff to move, stated that in my request for a quote, and got a response saying there was a 2 hr minimum and it was ~$260. I had to write in 2x to ask them to apply my yelp coupon. When I called, same day, to cancel, I was charge $129. With the yelp coupon, I was out $149, with nothing moved. I called back to ask if I could reschedule to take less of a hit (than the $129, + apply my yelp coupon to an actual service rendered.) Nope - but I *was* welcome to signup for another move service for the $260 again. So. I ended up moving everything I owned myself from my previously furnished place. At the last minute, I was offered the couches from my previous place. I knew that any moving company (Bellhops included) would quote me a minimum two hour move rate, so I took to Thumbtack. Imagine how pissed off I was to see Bellhops on there for an hourly rate of $99. So. All I'm sayin', is that I would have loved to use Bellhops, but didn't take them up on the Thumbtack ad on principle - because they had my initial request for a quote, stating that I didn't need 2 hrs of labor. I could have cancelled, same day, likely for a fee of less than $99, AND - this all could have been prevented if someone on the phone or via text or via email (they'd be in contact via all three) had thought to ask about what my situation was. Moving is one of the most stressful life events, and it sucks that I had to figure out that the most tailored way I could have used their service after I didn't need it anymore. This feels like a ripoff, and like the opposite of a company built around loyal customers. I guess that makes sense - there's probably not a lot of repeat move customers, but it still feels crappy that during a stressful transition in your life, a moving company doesn't have the wherewithal to retain your business by offering alternatives to paying out the wazoo. read more

We hired Bellhop to move our antique furniture from Cleveland, Ohio to Austin, Texas. When it arrived many of our items were heavily damaged to the point that they are not repairable. This included antiques that were in my family for 5 generations. The driver was indifferent about the damage, only saying he has to buy a new wheel bearing for his truck. When we made a claim, they offered us less than $150.00 for items items that were worth thousands. We will never be able to replace the items they ruined yet they don't care. read more

I am very late on getting back to this yelp review but I had such a great impression of my original move from June 3rd that I HAD to make sure I at least got to it ( eventually! ) Though I did not need to utilize them for the full time, Rocky and Austin were extremely eager to jump in and both were very helpful around the adjustments that I needed from the get go; especially with the bigger items that would have been a pain to carry up the stairs myself I greatly appreciated the follow-up courtesy emails from Amber S. and Wil P. I am so happy I saw an ad for Bellhops on Pinterest. They are by far the cheapest movers available. Our movers were Rocky and Rodrigo. Rocky's communication ahead of the move was a nice touch. On the day of our move we had to change the time we needed the movers and they were very flexible. They were so friendly and extremely hardworking, moving everything fast and efficient. They were so patient with us loading the truck and rearranging items multiple times. They were both so great, we wish we had them to help us unload in our new city. First of all, I have used several moving companies and this one is by far the most professional and put together. Their communication is on point! ALSO the guys that came to unload our truck into our new house were awesome! Super friendly, fast, on time, and they even tried to sort our stuff without just throwing boxes down. They couldn't take our washer/dryer upstairs (I forgot to ask) but they gave us a few tips on who we can call to get it done. DO NOT USE BELLHOP! They didn't have a worker (the truck driver who was supposed to come with a truck) show up, so we had to wait. We had to call to get the invoice adjusted due to this since they didn't subtract the time it took them to get a U-Haul truck. They also broke two items, one that we fixed and another that they only offered us $25 dollars when the item they broke was due to carelessness and cost $200 (didn't secure the AC Cord and snapped it in an elevator door). The workers implied Bellhop would have taken care of the cost of replacement. read more

This entire company is a scam designed to suck as much money out of your move as possible. Recently I moved into a rental waiting for my house remodel to finish. So I can directly compare bellhops to another company. The previous company moved me out of a two story house across town in HALF the time it took bellhops to move less stuff. There is no way it should have taken 7 hours to move a 2 bedroom single story house. I'd even sold my kitchen table and chairs before the bellhops move! I ended up moving stuff myself like my tv which they won't unless it's in a box. So why did it take so long? I was promised 3 movers and only 2 showed. They said this never happens but "did all the movers show up" is their first customer survey question so....Also, the truck they sent had an unnecessary elevator on it which they had to ride up and down to put stuff in. The driver just laughed when my friend pointed out a ramp would be faster and sure why not he was being paid by the hour. So we spent hours watching one or two boxes at a time riding that elevator. Secondly, they couldn't back the truck up to the new house because "we aren't insured for that." That's also convenient when you're getting paid by the hour. Oh and to top off the cherry the movers broke an expensive piece of furniture and while they said they filed a claim I've not heard anything from them about it. read more
