I've been a massive fan of Bellota for over a year now. Was introduced to them through an event venue group I was a part of and was excited to learn of this concept (their other restaurants include local faves Oak, Corrida, c-burger and more). Their catering is top notch and the presentation is outstanding. Just reach out to their team through a form on their site). They are creative and want to make sure your event is a success while working with your budget. Happy hours at Bellota are not to be missed. Our faves are the frozen margs (mango with tajin on the rim - magnificent), venomous bean dip, salsa trio and costra tacos. For dinner the enchiladas (Christmas style) are top notch and the Quesabirria will change your life. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. Uh oh! Bellota - what's going on?? Sat down on a Wednesday night to a handful of other guests. Service was TOUGH. Initial round of drinks took about 20 minutes. The second round we wound up canceling because it took so long and I was headed out the door. They did bring back a few mezcal margs which some friends had ordered but tasted more like lemonade from concentrate. Not good! I asked for hot sauce for my tacos and was told they didn't have any. No hot sauce?! At a taco spot?! Abhorrent! 3 starts because Food not bad actually but left a lot to be desired! read more

Great Mexican restaurant in North Boulder with a cool atmosphere and pleasant patio. The menu offers tacos, enchiladas and other Mexican specialties with cocktails, wine and beers. I went for dinner with a few friends and we all enjoyed our various entrees. We stared with the trio of homemade salsas, very good (although a little too salty for my taste). I had a couple tacos, also yummy and the Paloma was perfect. Our waitress was very nice and we had a wonderful evening. I'll definitely go back! read more

If you're in north boulder, this is the spot. New manager is doing an amazing job with new dishes and quality control. Jade is serving some of the best margaritas in boulder by far, definitely make a stop here in you're in the area. The costra, the cod, and the shrimp taco are all phenomenal. I had not been here before and a friend and I meet for happy hour every few weeks and try to try out new places, so I suggested this one, which I had heard about from another friend. The place is full of sunlight and the tables are not on top of each other. Happy hour is 4-5:30, but don't get there too early as they open at 4 so you can't get in more than a few minutes before because they are setting up for your meal. The happy hour menu is extensive and there are lots of tequila options - as expected. The carnitas was great but the star of the show was the shrimp taco (not on happy hour but worth the extra few bucks). Shrimp was cooked perfectly and cheese was smooth and creamy without overpowering the delicate shrimp flavor. They have veggie options too. There are three dipping options for the chips and salsa, and you get them all with no up-charge. The homemade chips arrive hot and salty and the chile de arbol, salsa verde, and arbol options are each awesome. The verde and arbol have a nice little kick but nothing will blow out your taste buds. My favorite was the salsa verde - yum! They should consider bottling that. I would buy it for sure. Side note on the chips. I brought some home and my mom was nibbling on them (by now they were cold, but still crunchy and yummy). She said they reminded her of her friend Jane's homemade chips. This is high praise indeed as Jane's restaurant was a tiny hole in the wall in Staten Island, NY, (long closed, sadly) that was always full of very picky people happily eating awesome scratch-made Mexican food. The server with the cute cherry earrings (sorry, I forgot her name) was cheerful, polite, and observant without being overbearing. The GM/bartender EJ was charming and helpful. One small thing. Don't order the red wine. This is a tequila place, have a margarita or a paloma (excellent!) or a shot. read more

Ok quick review. Headed here for a late dinner. Got the enchiladas. They were the most amazing enchiladas I've ever had. And if you know my reviews and history this means a LOT. Chips and salsa were very different. Loved them. Not the best I ever had but Probably because I like things very spicy. The churros desert, awesome. The sauces for it are all made in house and that shows. Highly recommend them also. If your looking for somthibg Mexican that isn't too fancy and doesn't have a number of margaritas in its name (locals will get that) hit this place up. No way you will be disappointed. Went to try Bellota for a date night, it was a very cute spot and drinks were good, but missed the mark on value which is why we won't be returning. I got an enchilada plate, partner got tacos, and we took churros to go. Spent $80 which isn't the worst for a fancier Mexican restaurant, however we left hungry even after each having a main course... notably I thought it was a bit stingy for them to charge $16-$20 for 2 skinny enchiladas and that a "plate" price doesn't even include even a little rice, it is $3 to add rice and beans to a plate but it felt like being nickel and dimed for rice and beans which at every other Mexican restaurant I've been to in Boulder would have come with a plate. I've actually never seen rice and beans NOT be priced into a more expensive "plate" item before. If you come here expect good Mexican food but at a much higher price than other Mexican restaurants with the same food quality. Notably there's other wonderful Mexican restaurants that have exceptional food quality, quantity, and overall value compared to Belotta in this area- the only difference is Bellotta serves alcohol and the other places do not. read more

We like the food and drinks here and the happy hour specials are decent. But this was the second time we've come here, ordered food and beverages, and had the servers apologize because the lone bartender has been totally slammed. Last time we ate here, we received our food, ate it, and after we'd finished, our drinks came out. The server apologized profusely, saying, "If I could, I would make your drinks myself, because I tend bar also, but...." Here's where things got weird. One of us had recently quit drinking alcohol so ordered a NA beverage (hibiscus tea). We also ordered one alcoholic drink. The bartender arrived at our table and with her apologies set down in front of us a house Paloma and a margarita, neither of which we had ordered, "on the house." A few minutes later, the drinks we'd ordered arrived. So there the two of us were, with no food but three alcoholic beverages and one hibiscus tea (yummy). The one who had recently quit drinking decided to scratch their fresh resolution and had some of the margarita and the Paloma, and the other enjoyed their specialty cocktail. But restaurant servers and bartenders alike should be really careful about setting alcoholic drinks in front of people who didn't order them. Not sure whether we will return. Downgraded for the bar service. Do better! read more

This has quickly become one of my very favorite Boulder restaurants. Everything I've tried has been so flavorful and unique. I first found out about this place when they were at the Boulder Taco Fest in 2023 and served the most delicious taco - the costra. The restaurant is clean and staff are super friendly. Some of my favorite things on the menu: the esquites, wild thing fries, costra and shrimp tacos, and the chicken enchiladas with the mole verde sauce (one of the best sauces to ever grace my mouth). Not yummy. Atmosphere was cool, water glasses felt fancy. Pozole missed the mark by a long shot. I would stay clear. if you are feeling like that down home pozole that you grew to love, this aint it. No radishes, no cabbage, no fresh avocado, no nada. I tried two small pieces of meat, I only did so because that was all that was in my entire bowl. I assume it was pork but tasted a lot like beef. This 13$ pozole was a bowl if broth and hominy. while their broth is very tasty, this one just missed the mark. Man and for that price I was thinking they were going to come out swinging. My wife got the Chile Relleno. This dish is one that Chile is the focal point not the something you need to focus to taste. This was filled with some concoction of cheeses and white rice. 16$ with no rice or beens. This was an extra 3$. I hear their margaritas are tasty I just don't drink. Randomly walked in here on a late afternoon. The restaurant was busy so we figured - should be good. My husband and I both got a margarita- a disappointment. The cocktails are pre made and just poured over ice. No hazy, freshly shaken margarita. After we saw our drinks we decided not to order too much food. We each got a taco- not memorable. Guacamole tasted good. Service was pretty decent. When we asked for the check our server asked us if we ever got our food. Yes- we did, you just didn't notice. More like 2.5 stars. Wow, this food was really bad! So surprised at the good reviews. The mushroom tacos, shrimp taco and veg tostado looked like they'd been prepared hours ago! (They arrived within minutes too..) Very vinegary and over salted and overcooked. The salad looked good but the candied pepitas and excessive dressing over sugared the whole thing. I rarely write reviews but boy, this was bad.. Service was awkward, we were brought wrong drinks and got that corrected, my husband was given wrong dish and never checked on, guess server was busy, and so we nibbled on it (very small plate) and then informed server once they finally had returned, then was told we ate it so we could re-order what we had originally ordered and pay for that in addition to the dish we did not ordered and were given, per policy, we just said never mind then. Witnessed bartender chewing on fingernails, and server had a runny nose and was sneezing - super gross. Ladies room reeked of cigarettes! Menu is small, food was ok. read more

This is one of our neighborhood places that we've recently discovered. It's on Broadway so not hidden but for some reason, it's hard to notice. Windows are dark, not well signed, etc. Anyway, I digress. My wife and I have been here now about 1/2 dozen times so have a pretty good feel for the place. Some really good things and some minor but really annoying misses. The Good: * Food is generally quit good with a few standouts like the Queso Fundido, the Enchiladas and some of the tacos. * The servers and staff are very friendly * The house margs are good although there are definitely better in Boulder The Annoying: * Overall, the prices are out of whack with both quality and quantity, ESPECIALLY on the drinks. * Tacos are priced just at the edge of WTF for the size. * They nickel and dime and quarter you on everything. Last night I ordered a tequila and soda. It was about 7 ounces of one-step up from Well tequila. It was $17. That's $15 for the tequila and then they added $2 for "ranch water" - like it's some magical 'recipe' or something? WTF? * The house margs are $12 - I guess that's where we are these days. But if you order a pitcher, it's still $12 per serving. How about a little break if I'm ordering a pitcher? isn't that kind of the point? Overall, we like this place. We want to love this place. But I always feel like I'm being taken advantage of just a little bit. I always walk out shaking my head at how much we've spent and my next thought is "man, we could have gone to _________ (fill in the blank with like 6 or 7 other mexican places in Boulder) and paid less or way less for same or better food/drinks" In other words, go try it. And if the Enchiladas or the Queso or anything blow you away, great! Let them know. But if you feel slightly pick-pocketed by the drink prices or the extra salsa charge or the "$2" magic ranch water surcharge, let them know that too. Hopefully, they'll realize people pay attention and don't like being nickel, dimed and dollared to death, and tone it down a bit. Otherwise, I don't think this place survives the Summer. We were just in on a Saturday night and it was 80% empty at 7:15PM. Peace out. read more

We've eaten here twice, and both times left feeling like it was decent, but we'd hoped for more. It seems strive to be a Mexican eatery with a bit of an more sophisticated element added to their food. Pros: - Interesting tacos (enjoyed the ribeye taco), tasty enough but very rich. - Wild Thing fries are great! I'd go back just for these. - Margarita was decent, but not great. Con: - While some of the tacos are reasonably good, you can get better tacos 35 feet away at Tierra Y Fuego, and at a lower cost. - Tortilla chips taste like supermarket bought chips (again, better chips at Tierra right across the way). - Salsas weren't to my liking - Guacamole was nothing to write home about. - For what your bill will end up being, there are other Mexican places in town that are better. We'll be back to Bellota and give it another try (and explore more of the menu). Its a new place that recently opened, and I like to give places a chance to 'hit their stride' before writing them off. read more

Wanted to try this new restaurant and was actually quite surprised in some ways, and very disappointed in other ways. The ambience was very nice - place was very clean. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, but this place does leave a lot to be desired. It is true that everything cost so be very careful when you order things because those add up pretty quick. the chips and the salsa taste like something you would get at a store so there's nothing great about it. The drinks were pretty good and not watered down. In fact, I thought they were a little bit strong. Unfortunately for us, we thought the tacos themselves were extremely salty and hard to consume. We tried to cut down the salty taste with the guacamole and rice, but ended up removing at least half of the meat from our tacos and leave it there on the plates. Was really surprised when we got the check we ended up spending over $100 for 2 tacos, two sides of rice, one margarita and a couple beers. I thought that was kind of an outrageous considering that we didn't even eat the tacos because they were so salty. The small bowl of rice was five dollars. The tacos are not huge tacos so it's kind of disappointing that they cost so much. For the amount we paid, you would think that the portions would be very generous, but they're not. Probably would not do this restaurant again. You probably could get better, tastier food - reasonably priced- elsewhere. read more

Bellota is a hidden gem in north Boulder. The food was fabulous. I had the pozole, which was rich and hearty. I also had a cochinita pibil taco and a carnitas taco--both piled with succulent meat. My dinner partner had the encihiladas with the mole, which were creamy and full of chicken. Everything was wonderfully seasoned, but not overly spicy. Great ambience, too, and pleasant and quick service. I will be going back! read more

I wouldn't say this place a "Gem" as most do. Boulder is so lacking in good restaurants it makes mediocre ones like this seem amazing... First time visit. Clean welcoming warm atmosphere. Started with two tequila cocktails. Well balanced, extremely well done. Drinks and Atmosphere were the two high points. The meal consisted of chips, salsa, guac, queso, tacos, toastadas. The food was extremely disappointing. The chicken taco was awful, chopped tomatillos with boiled shredded chicken in some terrible white sauce. I didn't even take a bite. The tortillas under all the food were soaked in oil, soggy and far from tasty. Food was below average to poor. Service was plain bad. After dropping off the food we didn't see the server for at least 10 mins and its a new server all of a sudden. We had 3 total. We aren't asked how everything is. Just a can I get you anything? ...not at that point. Having worked in the restaurant industry, I know that you check back with your table after the food is dropped; always. If a guest doesn't touch a food item you ask if it is okay and make adjustments. None of that happened. The servers seemed young an untrained. This is on the management not the young folks trying to learn a difficult job. For example, the server could have communicated to the manager (or vice-versa if the floor manager is expoing) that they couldn't touch the table after the food was dropped, thus triggering teamwork! Or the manager could have noticed me not touching my food and checked in. I should note is was slow when all this happened. This wasn't because they were dealing with a rush. Bottom line. If you want a good cocktail and some chips and salsa/guac/queso this is your place. If you want a great meal, I would look elsewhere. read more

I have never been more uncomfortable at a restaurant. Our server, young girl brown hair and blue eyes, sat a couple next to us that made us extremely uncomfortable. My girlfriend and I are young, they were older and trying to hit on us and get us out, with our servers help. My girlfriend got so uncomfortable and started crying that she had to leave. After asking the server to move our table she declined, it took her 20 minutes to get my to go boxes. She kept flirting with me and it was extremely inappropriate. I will never come back here again. Our server even placed that couple NEXT TO US after originally seating them at another table across the room. I feel really gross and weird from this experience. We came to eat food and have a good time and ended up getting harassed by our server and some weird key swapping couple. This is a place that swingers frequent apparently, and the server girl is their scout. Please don't come here. I took a video and it was very bizarre. read more

We went here for the first time a few nights ago, and it was outstanding. The service was incredible, and the food couldn't of been any better.
