Booked this for a monday evening for a business dinner. i really wanted to like this restaurant and there were several things that i did like, but the food was just OK from my perspective. Ambience - this isn't the best place for a business dinner. very quiet/romantic and i felt like our group was out of place there, but no one looked at us oddly. It felt more like we might have been interfering with their romantic vibe as we were talking business. The restaurant and staff present a very inviting atmosphere. Food, this is where i was disappointed. the Bread at the beginning was very good/ with salted butter. I ordered the salted radish appetizer and it honestly just felt like salted radishes on top of a puree that i didn't really care for. So would put this as a 5/10 in terms of rating. I got the rabbit, which was recommended as being the best entree option. i have never had rabbit previously and wanted to try it. I thought it was OK, but not very memorable. It did taste like dark meat chicken. however the chick peas they were served with were underdone (crunchy in texture) and simply not that good. Our dessert, blueberry Tres Leches, was the best of the 3. My dining companions had a variety of things (striped bass, meatballs), but no one was raving about their food. Service was quite nice. would give this more like a 3.5 out of 5, as the atmosphere and service were good. Sadly won't be returning. read more

What a disappointment - food wise. The concept -- a farm to table restaurant sourced from a local 500-acre farm with 430+ varietals is so appealing. However, the kitchen fails to deliver quality or good tasting meals, despite the well-sourced food. The menu is prix fixe. 2 appetizers and an entree, or 1 appetizer, entree and dessert. The salmon tartare was salty, too salty. The kefta balls were over salted as well. The onion tarte shell was so hard it could barely be chipped away to eat. When we mentioned this to our server, the response was we get more complaints about the tarte than any other appetizer. I was surprised to see that the appetizers were all served at the same time, so by the time, I ate the cold salmon, the warm kefta, besides being salty was also cool - might have been more appealing if warmer. The rabbit entree was dry, overcooked and tasteless. The accompanying garbanzo beans were undercooked, crunchy and too salty. The food highlight was the family style vegetables. Beets, onions, asparagus were alright; the sugar snap peas which still had strings were not as good. The dessert were disappointing as the rest of the meal. The macaron was brick hard, so hard, we had to ask for a fork and knife to chip hunks off of it. Tasteless. After we departed, my dinner companion said she wished we had sent the dessert back, it was so hard and inedible that we left most of it. Bramble & Hare has a few things going for it: Service was spot on, attentive, helpful and friendly. The wine list is very good. Ambience is pleasant and the dining room is quiet. I really wanted to like Bramble & Hare as the farm to table concept appeals, but with the poor food preparation, this is a tough restaurant to like. read more

This one was hard. Service and ambience were a solid 5. The cocktails and food, however, were all over the spectrum for the four of us. We sent one cocktail back after the 4 of us each tried a sip -- tasted like cough syrup, with a "medicine" after taste. Were those marinated olives in the martini that gave it an off-putting taste?? And while the foie gras was excellent, the arancini was too salty. The rabbit was well received, but the pork was left half eaten. Solo diner review (10/31/2024). All treats and no tricks at dinner on this Halloween night! I arrived a little early to my 7pm reservation on Halloween night, but was welcomed immediately and very thoughtfully given some options about where I'd like to be seated. As a solo diner I always appreciate a table with a view and there was a 4-top they offered me with a lovely banquet seat that faced the open kitchen. Service was on point throughout the meal with a gifted glass of wine from the Som. The food was lovely and earthy and filling. I loved that they're recognized for being sustainable by Michelin and their menu reflected their commitment to local farming (veg and animal). As a visitor to Boulder it was nice to eat a meal that was truly local. I opted for the the Creamy Tomato Soup (hearty, thick and delicious with handmade croutons), the Tunis Lamb (delicious corn polenta and a welcome addition of the currants), and the Chocolate Peppermint Mousse which came in a delightful pyramid shape. I was not excited by the family style vegetables -- their texture was soggy and overly salty. I also really liked that for larger parties you could choose to get two appetizers or two desserts. This allowed people to share their dishes and try more items. Other diners have criticized the youth of the wait staff, and I will agree that most are too young to drink. This was truly a special experience. Very eclectic but relaxed and fun atmosphere. Probably more private than most higher end restaurants so the quiet was nice. They do farm to table so everything comes from their farm or from a local farm including the distilled spirits! The menu is small and you select your preference from appetizer to dessert . The food was outstanding- very, very fresh (photos). The presentation was just as special. The service was very good - Tyler- very friendly and engaging and a wealth of knowledge about food/wine from an extensive chef background. But everyone was so friendly. I've only heard great things about Bramble and Hare and after going there for the first time yesterday, I can definitely say it lives up to the hype! When walking in you can see that the restaurant has an upscale vibe to it and has some great decor. The lighting is a little dim so it's a great spot for a date, but at the same time, it wouldn't feel weird to take your family or friends. The staff were amazing as well. Our waitress was very attentive and gave some great recommendations. When it comes to the menu, there's not a crazy amount of options, but honestly I think that's better because they can really focus on making the couple of dishes they have on there really well. The food is all farm to table so it's guaranteed fresh. My friend and I got their gnudi, pork belly, and foie gras as our appetizers and they were all super tasty. The pork belly literally melted in your mouth as you ate it and the foie gras had a perfect blend of rich, savory, and sweetness. For the entrees, we got their lamb and pork and both were so juicy and flavorful. You could taste the freshness (not gamey) of the meat which was awesome. The dessert was great as well! We got their key lime tart and it's one of the best I've had hands down. Overall great experience and I definitely recommend if you're feeling a little boujee. read more

This place is a total gem. I've been three times over the past 18 months, and it's consistently excellent. The food -- delicious and innovative, and the truest example of farm-to-table cooking around. The service is totally pro -- seamless, on point, and friendly. Wines by the glass and cocktails are excellent, and the wine by bottle list is impressive. I'd go back just for these elements, but the atmosphere can't be beat: cozy, warm, elevated yet comfortable. This restaurant has been on our list to visit for years, but the prix fixe menu may have kept us away. Well, don't let the menu stop you from dining there sooner rather than later! We went with friends from out of town and really enjoyed ourselves and the food. The ambiance, the mood and energy of our waiter, and the spirits in our beverages really helped set a relaxed and jovial tone to the evening. The drinks. This is a craft cocktail establishment and we enjoyed the available concoctions. The table's favorite (we sampled 4 of their custom creations) was the Linen Suit, a Scotch-based drink with fig and other magical ingredients. It's likely that their menu will change, so be adventurous! Apps: Our group tried the soup, beet salad, and fried green tomatoes. All were enjoyable, but to me, the tomatoes stood out for their unique preparation and favor. Mains: Almost all of us decided to get the beef entree (ribeye over polenta and vegetables) and the other ordered the rabbit. None of us were disappointed and no-one had any leftovers to take home. Desserts: I'll just speak for the Hazelnut Mousse that includes a flourless chocolate cake. It was so good! Overall Bramble & Hare provides good value for its prix fixe menu. We were seated in the original area; the space is comfortable and homey, as well as quiet enough to hear someone on the other side of the table. We haven't been for a while and the food was good. I had the pork belly appetizer, the arancini and the key lime pie (the mango along with lime flavor was perfect). The cook on the items was perfect. They gave us 2 different types of bread (raisin and sourdough); the raisin was a bit better than the sourdough. Note that I tasted some of the other dishes and they were also good; the strawberry dessert didn't have enough strawberry flavor and the banana bread overpowered it a bit. The rating for Bramble&Hare should probably be 4.5 in comparison to the 3 other restaurants where I have eaten of comparable rank in Boulder over the last 4 months. I really like the ambiance, kind of like a rustic medieval lodge. The service was really good and they were very attentive. The menu selection is limited, but it's nice because every couple of weeks they change the menu and it's farmed fresh ingredients. I got the salmon and it was delicious. They actually keep the skin on and it was seared to perfection. The side vegetables was also very tasty. Well balanced portion but did wish there was a bit more cheese. The tortilla strip chips were a nice touch to add texture. The salmon was super moist and flavorful. I think the skin could be crispier. Also the kale that went with it was cooked really nicely! Didn't know how I felt about the spaghetti squash to be honest though. Felt it was soggy and didn't add to the dish. Dessert was amazing! Had the right balance of sweetness and tart. Recommend the dessert for sure. It was 68$ for these 3 dishes. Its a little overpriced. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Booked a reservation for dinner after signing our marriage license. I must have mentioned it in the reservation, because when we arrived we were greeted with a big congratulations. We received champagne and the service was phenomenal. At the end of the meal, we got a personalized, handwritten congratulations note signed by the staff. The food was incredible, which goes without saying. Went there for our 15 yr anniversary dinner. Sorry to say we will not be back. Bang for the Buck: 1 - Food and flavors were lack-luster and outright disappointing. - Not worth $68 for 3 courses. I've had many $30 meals that were 10x as creative and flavorful as I did here. I have no issues paying $68 per person for a great meal. This meal is well over $100 per person with 1 glass of wine... spend your money elsewhere, you'll be far happier. Food Flavor: 1 -- Of all the items on two main entrees only the lentils (the 'side item') had real flavor. -- steak chewy with little flavor. Cooked medium (not med rare as ordered) and a "thin cut" under 1/2" thin. Grass fed, I could tell from the little flavor it had. Grass fed is often more firm but should have a lot more flavor. This did not. I suspect partly because the cut was so thin, it doesnt retain the juices like it should. A good chef would know better. -- rabbit leg was semi-dry, basically just baked without sauce, marinade, glaze, etc... nothing to make it pop. Flavor was a cross between chicken and turkey. I've had more 10x more enjoyment from a $5 rotisserie Costco chicken. Food Uniqueness & Creativity: 1 - Apps and main entrees were disappointing, not creative at all. - Deserts were very good and unique. Only thing I liked here. Food Quality: 4 - seemed fresh but that didn't matter as there was no creativity or flavor in the dishes. Food Quantity: 5 For the price the quantity of food was proper. We ordered the French onion soup which was wholesome, flavorful, and delectable. I could've eaten the whole pot of that soup. It was the . The Goat Cheese Gnudi was absolute fire. It was exquisite comfort food. It had gourmet Hamburger Helper vibes (I mean this in the most endearing way possible). The salmon tartare served with the bread and aoli was a crisp refreshing addition to the 1st course. The textures and flavors of the tartare, with bread, and aoli melded together beautifully. For the second course we had the saffron risotto and the creamy polenta and pork. The Risotto was Über flavorful. We love saffron. It wasn't over powering. It blended beautifully. The beets, and fennel alongside the risotto was a perfect pairing. We don't typically eat pork, but had to try it from an organic farm. It was lean and deliciously paired with the carrots, Asian collards, creamy polenta, fennel, and cabbage. The house made sausage was very lean and flavorful. The third course consisted of carrot cake and lemon poppyseed cake. The carrot cake had refreshing comfort food vibes. It was like a symphony to the taste buds. They went above and beyond and wrote "Happy Birthday" in chocolate on the plate of the carrot cake. The lemon poppy seed cake was bright, light and tasty. It's hard to decide which one was the winner. They both had desirable qualities. We wrapped the experience up with some palette cleansing candies which did just that. My experience at Bramble & Hare dethroned my previous Boulder favorite. The restaurant is cosy and warm, with a golden glow and plush seating, draped with fuzzy blankets and pillows, that wraps around the small space. We had a mocktail and a glass of wine to go with our bread board. My one suggestion for the kitchen would be to warm up the bread brought to the table before the meal. The entire meal was outstanding, but the highlights were the gnocchi and the salmon entree. The gnocchi: hearty and flavorful. This dish reminded me of an elevated hamburger helper in THE BEST WAY. It was topped with squash blossoms, which added to the presentation. I would come back for this dish alone. The salmon entree: not only was the salmon amazing, but the quinoa was the best I've ever had. So much umami. Stuart and Micha were wonderful with suggestions and ensuring the meal was perfect. This was my last stop on my foodie tour of Denver/Boulder. I have to say, I was expecting more for a renowned place. When we arrived, a few minutes before our reservation, no one was there to greet us. We waited a solid seven minutes before anyone noticed we were there (never a good sign, for a fine dining restaurant). Most of the servers seemed young and casually dressed--I suppose that was the "farm" vibe they were going for, but it could also feel like the place was understaffed, with the servers rushing around between the tables constantly. Our service was rather inattentive, with breaks between courses that were a little too long. Several times, two different people came to ask us the same question, and very rarely did anyone come to check in to ask us if we needed anything. The dining atmosphere was just okay. It was very loud (we were forced to overhear a TMI conversation at the next table about sexual escapades). Our table had a couch on one side, but since we are friends, we thought it would be weird to sit so close to one another like that. My friend sat opposite me in a chair instead, but since I was on the couch, I had to practically lean over the table to be heard, which made my back hurt by the end of the meal. I did appreciate the little curtains dividing the table and affording semi-privacy, but it was hard to hold a conversation without shouting. I had high expectations of the food, given the excellent reputation of the chef founders and the reputation for leading the farm-to-table game. The charcuterie board ($32) was indeed excellent, with a nice selection of meats and cheeses and other "accoutrements." It would have been nice if more of the offerings had been local or from their farm (some of the cheese came from California, or France, for example). By far, the charcuterie board was our favorite part of the meal. For dinner, my friend had fried green tomatoes. I tried them, but I thought the crust was far too overpowering. If you've ever had them in the south, you'll know that the key is to highlight the freshness and flavor of the tomato. These had been coated in a very thick crust that was so crunchy it was hard to eat--you could barely taste the tomato inside. Given that the aim should be to emphasize the freshness of the farm ingredients, this missed the mark. I had gnocchi as my starter, and I was surprised that it was basically only a few gnocchi absolutely buried in ground beef and cream sauce. I had to fish around to get at the actual gnocchi--there was a clear imbalance between the sauce and the gnocchi. It was flavorful, but a little too much like eating spoonfuls of ground beef. I had a very nice steak as my main course--it was perfectly cooked to my taste and well seasoned. My friend had the rabbit leg, which he said was a little dry and lacking flavor. For dessert, I had the raspberry tart. The crust was very hard and dry, and I thought the raspberry mousse was bland. It would have been nice to have more fresh fruit on that, more of a fresh farm vibe. My friend had a chocolate hazelnut tarte that was very good and would likely satisfy any chocolate lover. To sum up, we had a good time, but I've had better farm-to-table experiences elsewhere. read more

Bramble and Hare is one of the few true farm to table restaurants in Boulder and one of the few I'd categorize as 'fine dining'. The food is always excellent, well thought out, and plentiful. Each dish contains a combination of well-prepared delights that combine wonderfully with each other for a taste sensation! The veggies are the freshest you'll find. If you're on a date, I'd recommend the south dining room where you can sit side by side on a comfy couch. Otherwise the north dining room is a bit more cozy. read more

Echoing the review by John H. My wife and I were on vacation and the ambiance and previous ratings had us ok with the $63 three course pre-fix menu. The wait staff was friendly and we were able to get a seat immediately. The drinks were good and well priced, so no complaints there! The food however, unfortunately just left much to desire. While the lamb was delicious, everything else just seemed to lack flavor, from the butternut squash soup, spanakopita, and most especially the pork. The pork was dry, overly chewy and lacked flavor and was hard to get through. Also a similar sentiment for the desserts - the pumpkin cheesecake didn't really give off any pumpkin flavor. Finally remembered to make a reservation so we could go here on a Friday night, but not sure I would recommend others go out of there way to. The main pain point was the inattentive service, coupled with the high prices, which was disappointing. We didn't see our waiter again after we put in our order until he brought us the check, and this is a 3 course meal so you know it's going to take a little while. All staff were pleasant but we had to flag down the bus boy for: refilling water glasses, silverware for our main course (we took some from a neighboring table while we waited), and we were unable to get second drinks bc we never saw our waiter. The food was thoughtfully prepared, but nothing stood out for me except the tomato soup. Drinks were mediocre. Ambience was neat, but where we sat it smelled dusty like grandma's attic. I'm a big fan and follower of true farm to table and this spot really hits the bullseye. The experience is on point, beautifully decorated and well lit space. Easy to seat 2-4 and sit next to your favorite person (they set for couples side by side). Really thoughtful welcomes and background on the food and farm connection. We did a fabulous 3 course menu - very large servings based on our experience and we left with a few to-go boxes. Recommend a bottle of the nicely paired wine menu and espresso with dessert. We did the salad, peas - salmon, risotto - and mouse and raspberry dessert - all superb. Wine and food service was 10/10. 100% recommend for a nice date night - dress up and enjoy. read more

A special occasion ruined by mediocrity. We are not foreigners to fine dining so we came to Bramble and Hare to experience what many had told us was a farm to table experience and one of Boulder's Best. The first issue is hard to say because our server was delightful, but the service would be better if the staff were not teenagers. How can someone who can't drink give you a wine or drink recommendation? I mean the bottles on the list average $120. Then the food was all wrong. I wish it wasn't so lame but nothing this bad is worthy of a kitchen that has such a small menu. The Gnudi was tough, tougher than if I had bought it from the refrigerated section and cooked it at home. Obviously the dough was over-mixed and the ratios of starch to fat were wrong. The main courses were fine but the portions were too large. This could be why the whole thing is overpriced... Dessert was pretty, but again so simple it should not receive praise. The flavors were rich but flat. The menu said it was farm to table, and yet the options ranged from Vanilla orange cheesecake to chocolate mousse. These ingredients don't come from Boulder, so why use them? My overall impression is that this place is riding on its longstanding reputation and the overall reputation of Boulder restaurants. The chef lacks care, and the front of house lacks experience. The butter that came with the bread was easily the best part, you could taste its freshness, and it was delicious. If I were to price each course myself it would be $17 starter $30 $9 desert $56 total. But we paid $75 each plus tax and tip. This is really overpriced, and needs to be evaluated. I was happy to have a $75 meal but instead was let down. We will not be coming back. read more

We've been going to Bramble and Hare and its sister restaurant for years. Many pleasant memories of birthdays, mother's day, graduations, etc. Had another family celebration, and the food was five-star amazing. The medium rare lamb duo was impeccable, and the mango almond cake was rich but not too sweet. As always, the highlight are the fresh vegetable dishes. The issue was the service. The server was obviously annoyed that we didn't order a bottle of wine for the table. People have many reasons why they don't drink, and mine is that I have cancer and am in treatment. My partner tried to order a (not very complicated) cocktail that we remembered from the old menus. She said she had never heard of it and the bartender couldn't make it, though a custom cocktail is one of the menu options. He then ordered a beer she said they were out of. As we were leaving, I heard her order that same beer from the bartender and saw her give it to another table. She corrected my pronunciation of crepes, incorrectly, "Americans say it CRAAAAPES," which was funny. We were seated by a windy door, under a vent blowing cold air, and were freezing all evening and were told it was too busy to move. Honestly, we just had a wonderful time anyway and left a 30% tip, because that's what you do. I'm sure we won't be missed, as it seems happily busy as ever, but we will be sure to celebrate my upcoming cancer recovery elsewhere. read more
