Koco is a staple to this area and I grew up going here ever since their last location. Their tea is good-- but their food is even better. I always get triangle kimbap here and it is some of the best kimbap i've had, and it pairs soooo nicely with the chicken. This spot is PERFECT FOR STUDYING. It has outlets, clean bathrooms, strong wifi, and of course all the food to powers you through your studying. the workers here-- i believe a husband and wife, are so kind and make the food efficiently, fresh, and delicious always! can not recommend this place enough. read more

The store was empty when I came in and ordered at the kiosk. It's not too clear when you come in that you should go to the kiosk. It took about five mins to get my drink and I wasn't thrilled with it. Some of that may be on me because I ordered 75% sweet but it was still too overwhelmingly sweet. The salted cheese foam was just a thin layer that didn't hold up or have much flavor. The boba was ok -- and it cost extra. The price for a 16 oz was $4.50 (quite reasonable) but the foam, tapioca, almond milk, no ice (.$50) and flavors added an extra $4. It was ok. I came here with the intention of getting bubble tea but got bingsoo instead. If you haven't had bingsoo before, it's Korean shaved ice with fresh fruit, red beans, and some light condensed milk. It's the ultimate summer treat and it's best shared with friends! This one has some mochi, banana, strawberries, kiwi, red bean, and vanilla ice cream to top it all off. This was the second time I came here. The first time they didn't have all of the food items. Now, you can have dinner and dessert at the same place. They only have one kiosk to order from. Most of the time they were in the back. The people are actually very nice but their customer service skills could use some work. I've been looking around for a nice place to get boba and this place is pretty good. I ordered from the kiosk and that was very easy to do, but you can obviously order at the counter. The wait wasn't long. The drinks were delicious. The boba had a nice soft chew to it. The flavor combo would depend on my order, but my brown sugar and strawberry combo was great. Good spot to get bingsoo! They also have other korean foods, but we specifically came for dessert and tea. They had plenty of tea and bubble tea options also. The bingsoo was tasty with plenty of different toppings. Definitely a good size to share between two to three people as well. read more

Koco bowl is just an extension to the already popular and well visited Cafe Koco. All they did was move locations from the previous spot next to Pizza Hut down the strip mall to the location next to Xfinity previously occupied by Penn Station. Not only is there more dining space at this new location and drive up parking but it also has more food choices outside the small finger food choices offered at Cafe Koco. I really think this is the next evolution for the Koco establishment and mimicking it's location in Evanston. This comes at a perfect time of the year where Koco flourishes in the summertime. Cafe Koco is small in size but has lots to offer. Located in the same mall as San Soo Gab San, it's a nice place to grab bubble tea or a latte after dinner. I've been there to study before but I've found the loud music can be distracting but it's a good place for small groups. They offer various kinds of bubble tea drinks and coffee/latte. I've been there when they offered rice cake toast, but recently they've changed the menu to offer red bean fish pastries. Service is quick and fast and ordering is super simple. They make my favorite bubble tea which is ice blended taro and coconut powdered in milk with bubbles or boba. Not to be confused with Catty Coco, which is when Ice T's dreamgirl starts insulting my dreamgirl because her fake thingies are bigger and her shoes are stripperier and pornier (and not many are, but hers are). Cafe Koco has a really nice owner who will explain to you how to stick the straw in your bubble tea so to speak. Ahem. I guess he's an expert at insertion. Ahem. I told him I didn't need advice on that, because I'd stuck straws in more cups than he'd even imagined in his life. Ahem ahem. I got the golden milk tea because it was recommended and honestly I could taste coffee in it. I think these are Vietnamese style drinks. The tapioca at the bottom of the drink carries most of the sweetness. I liked it and between the great service and the nice taste it's almost a 5 but it's not quite there. Possibly because it tasted a little bit too chemical or fake to me. But still an excellent place for tapioca, and when I come back to town, I'll come back and try several more products and see if we can get them slid up to a 5. The management has changed for this place. I used to frequent this cafe but after the change, that's no longer the case. My last visit was sometime in early April, so the review is a bit overdue, but I thought it was important to share my experience with those who might be having the same expectations. This is a lengthy review, so if you don't have time for the details, scroll to the bottom for TLDR. Once the new management took over, I visited the place again to order some drinks to test out. There were a lot more seating areas and the space seemed to open up more in the back for me to walk around, so it felt a bit spacious which I liked. Some changes in the decorations and the logo but nothing too significant. The website did change by the way! I tried to order different kinds of items to see what things are like overall, but not all items were ready at the time. For example, things like beef rice bowls and etc weren't ready for ordering. I opted for milk teas and honestly expected them to be similar to what I'm used to getting here. I was wrong. Strawberry milk tea and taro milk tea were ordered. These two were some of my favorites at this place, so I figured they were good items to test out and see if there were any differences. Standard drinks with just boba pearls (tapioca), nothing else. I don't know what went wrong, but the drink I received was not something I was accustomed to. Let's start off with the strawberry milk tea. I don't know how else to put it, but the strawberry milk tea I expect is a bit creamy-looking milk tea that's strawberry-like in color and flavor. If there are chunks of fresh strawberries, even better. As you can see in the picture, it does not resemble anything remotely close to what I just described. For one, it did not taste anything as if fresh strawberries were used. It certainly has its sweet aspect of it, which is fine since those can be adjusted. However, the "strawberry" component tasted like those from Smucker's strawberry jam. Don't get me wrong. I like my Smucker's Strawberry Jam since they go great with my toast, but when its artificial taste is strongly present in my drink, I don't really enjoy it. The tea part of it wasn't so bad, but the lack of creamy milky aspect kind of blew away the whole purpose of drinking a milk tea. Now, you'll ask, how do I know that the tea part of it was decent? Well, it's because the strawberry part was sunk in the bottom when I got my drink. They were sort of separated like layers, so once I realized that I had to swirl the drink. It didn't really help much though. And oh boy, the taro milk tea really hit the ball out of the park, not in a good way. The strawberry milk tea at least had a strawberry taste so I'll give them that. When I order a taro milk tea, I think it's reasonable to assume that the drink I get is a creamy purplish-looking drink or at least something similar to that. Not here. The taro milk tea that I always recommended for this place to my peers always had a strong taro flavor that was rich in flavor and creamy to the taste. The one I got didn't taste anything like taro. It was bland, just a strong bitter black tea taste. The drink was taken back to the cafe for some questions since there could've been mistakes, and I couldn't believe what they said. They said the teas they served are indeed made correctly and that their taro milk tea has a tea base, with a big confident smile and unapologetic laughter as if I was the weird one here. The taro milk tea had sprinkles of undissolved taro that was absolutely gross for some reason - it tasted nothing like taro and you could feel the grains in your mouth. I wasn't even angry since it was just amusing to see how they were able to bring out a big smile and explain that their drink is a proper "milk" tea when it didn't even include milk or added enough of it to have any resemblance to a milk tea, let alone have decent flavors. As for the boba pearls (tapioca), they were really subpar. I really liked the boba I got before since it had a perfect sweetness and chewy taste to them. The new management's boba pearls were really disappointing. I feel like it was either undercooked a bit or left in cold water over time and hardened. My cherished Cafe Koco Bowl is no longer there. The drinks lack flavor and their parts don't mix well together. If you're going in expecting a similar milk tea, I do not recommend this place. A couple of sips later, I tossed them out. We frequent bubble teas places quite often and have gone to most of the places in the area. According to my son the strawberry pineapple with litchy jelly is the best here. The woman working behind the counter who I assume is the owner was very pleasant. They must've changed the concept from when I was last here a couple years back. In addition to bubble tea they now have a variety of street food options. There's plenty of seating for dining in and parking is plentiful. Heads up: They've renamed to Koco Bowl and moved multiple doors east of Golf Rd. Still in the same plaza, but their new sign is very hard to spot. They're in between Xfinity and a nail salon. This new location is certainly a lot bigger than the previous one, and when you walk in there's an interesting U-shaped partition that I'm sure can be confusing to first-timers. Just ignore that and walk towards the back of the store and you'll eventually see the counter to your right where someone will take your order. Besides drinks, they now also offer food. They've got ramen, dosirak (Korean "packed lunches", a bit similar to a Japanese bento box), and Korean-style wings that come with white rice and sweet corn. It looks like they will also roll out street food sometime according to the menu. If you're considering the ramen, know that they use instant noodles from a packet. You can choose between veggie, mild and spicy then customize with toppings like egg, seafood, dumpling etc. for an extra charge. As for the drinks, my mango pineapple w/ lychee jelly bubble tea tasted fine to me but reminded my brother of potpourri? While his drink - a matcha milk tea - was just a smidge above room temp and therefore not cold enough :( read more

I used to go to liquid fusion for my bingsoo but after they started using cheap ice crean, i didnt want to go back. i found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try and glad i did. their bingsoo is like the ones i had in LA koreantown and i really loved it! im sitting at home now wishing i had some. wanted to try their red bean bread shaped like a fish but they didnt have it. as for rice cake stick, just tasted like red pepper paste (gochujang) and nothing special. i personally didnt like it too much. taro smoothie, not bad but had better other places. still, i give 5 stars for the bingsoo and def coming again for it. read more

I was shopping in the area and I stopped by because I was craving bubble milk tea and it was on my way home. I decided to get a large hot taro milk tea with tapioca because it was late and I didn't want too much caffeine. Service was fast which I appreciated because after working for 12 hours and then finishing some holiday shopping, I just wanted to enjoy my bubble tea on my drive home. My first disappointment was when I got into the car. I noticed that there was no dedicated hole for the thicker boba straws. There was only a sip opening and I thought "it's fine, I can still enjoy this." My second disappointment was when I had my first sip. I waited till I was halfway home to take a sip because the drink was hot so I wanted to let it cool a bit. My first sip of the drink was SUPER SWEET. If there was such a thing as taro cream sugar then this what I would imagine it would be. I took maybe like 4 or 5 sips and decided this $5 drink wasn't worth trying to finish. It wasn't till I got home and looked at the menu that I took a picture of, that I realized I could've controlled the sweetness level. I didn't notice that when I first ordered. I admit it was a mistake on my part and that I should've paid more attention to the menu but I think the cashier should've mentioned it as well. A simple "how sweet do you want it?" while I was ordering would've been nice. I know other bubble tea places does this and I guess I take that for granted. Also, yelp tells me that this is my 2nd check in however I don't remember coming here at all. Cafe Koco is a small little bubble tea shop that offers iced fruit tea, iced milk tea, smoothies, hot milk tea, frappes, coffee, iced coffee, teas, bingsoos, and even onigiris. A good friend and I came here after dinner, and we ordered: Lychee Black Tea (this had a nice sweetness from the lychees, but the tea/water-base had an off taste to it), Jasmine Green Milk Tea (I like the floral notes from the jasmine, but wished it was more creamier and milkier), and a Matcha Frappe (this had a nice strong green tea flavor, and it was creamy and icy!). We also had their Bulgogi and the Spicy Tuna onigiri - both had the rice sweetened with sugar and soy sauce, and the filling was plentiful; the bulgogi was on the much sweeter end, and the spicy tuna had a good tuna and mayo mixture, with a nice little kick. Just note that the onigiri may be served cold if you come later in the day. Service was pretty friendly, and once you order and pay up at the cashier, your drinks/food are delivered to your table. The cafe itself is small, with only 4 tables and a counter wall with chairs. This place used to he called Cafe Koco but now apparently its called Koco Bowl! Yes, they sell Korean ramen which is pretty good with the seafood. This place is a hidden gem: BEST WINGS IN CHICAGO. These Korean style wings are super crispy and good! Can't wait to come back. I've been looking for good Korean fried chicken and this is it folks. Their skewers are also really good too. Spicy, sweet, chewy, crispy, and a little sour. Their seaweed rolls are super good. I also found that their Thai tea is superb. Lots of menu choices, which is a little overwhelming. There's a handful of tables to sit at, some communal, but no high chairs. On this visit, I ordered an iced taro milk tea. It was on the sweet side, and I wouldn't get it again unless I cut some sugar in it. My husband likes the icyness of his pineapple coconut bubble tea. We also tried the honey bread with ice cream. The honey bread was more like a toasted sandwich with honey spread inside, which was a little underwhelming and made me crave Caffe Bene. Vanilla bean ice cream was tasty too! This is a great place to sit, enjoy some milk tea and crispy waffles. They have a variety of milk tea and smoothies. I really like their matcha green milk tea and tried their waffles with rice cake and red bean during my last visit (delicious). I was able to try onigiri rice balls for the first time here and tried the chicken curry and bulgogi (personally I think I preferred the chicken curry). They have a decent drink selection and everything I've tried has been delicious. The cafe is pretty small, easy to miss within the plaza, but I've never had much difficulty finding a seat when I'm inside.
