All the employees are very sweet and helpful except one. The snide older "blonde" woman is terribly rude, both to customers and her employees (I believe she is either a manager or possibly one of the owners). Constantly scolding the kind cashiers in front of customers for very minor transgressions which is not a good look. Very disrespectful atmosphere. No wonder turnover rate seems high. Little containers of fudge at checkout covered in fuzzy white mold. Frozen goods are icy/freezerburnt and seem like they've been defrosted several times. Prices are consistently high. They recently added a self check that has not been turned on/usable a single time in the few dozen times I've been here, what's the point? I go here because it's 15 minutes closer than Felton Safeway, but the "convenience" is heavily outweighed by other factors. read more

I read some of the other reviews -- some of the stuff is for sure expired but buying perishable products you should always exercise caveat emptor. It's not that hard to detect fruits and veggies past their prime. Packaged food literally has the date printed on it. If you're buying stuff like packaged blueberries, open the packaging and inspect the blueberries quickly, you'll find out in a matter of a few seconds if things are good. Fresh blueberries have a kind of frost sheen and are very firm. For fish, a quick eye test will tell you if there's anything wrong with it, and you can always ask the fishmonger for a quick sniff too. I liked this market quite a bit in particular because I found a brand of potato chips which I hadn't seen before. Made by an Irish company, they cut the potatoes thick with the skins on for maximum texture and earthiness. The flavor I chose was Black Truffle with Butter and oh my was it difficult to put down the bag. So smooth with balanced truffle aromas and a hint of black pepper to make things interesting. I must admit this store has had some issues especially during Covid times. Ok that's over. I have come back and have been finding new and interesting products on the shelves. I appreciate the fresh produce. And as for everything, look it over. I have found "old" stuff available even in Costco. In the mountains, it's a long drive to other popular markets. This is convenience. Usually Ben Lomond produce may last longer than the farmers market. But, I try to take advantage of all. I'm so glad to have much available to me here in the mountains. I've put off writing this for years. This could be an amazing grocery store. But, so much is overpriced. Expired foods on the shelf. Deli hot foods are dried out, tough to eat & expensive. Labels on main dishes are often incorrect & aren't what the item actually is. A small community grocery store should think more about the local patrons who come to their store & give them their business. Without these patrons coming in to the store they would have to close their doors. Can't we all just help each other out & work together to make this work? I feel like this community is being taken advantage of because we don't have many choices for shopping. Please consider the people who don't have much money, or transportation to go to a cheaper store. I rarely shop here because of the cost. Please make some changes to accomodate our neighbors & residents by making the store a place that we can all go to shop. You will be granted more business while helping the community. I appreciate having a market in our mountain area and I'm sure that the problems we've had in the past (COVID, flooding and CZU Fire) have made things extremely challenging. BLS has a great hot food bar and overall they are a fine market. However, their choice of employees is questionable with regard to one young lady who has worked there for at least a year. The first time I saw her temper she threw (not toss) a broom about 6 feet into the register area because I had interrupted her sweeping by needing my groceries checked out. Today she ran a transaction incorrectly and when I asked her politely to re-run it the attitude started in earnest. I left the store wondering if I ever wanted to go back. She needs some help in understanding how to treat people when they are simply asking for help. read more

Do not shop here. They deceptively sell rotting and expired meat. Our last and final shopping trip on March 18th 2024 they sold us raw packaged sausages that expired October 7th 2023. Somehow the raw sausage links appeared fresh through the packaging, but given the fact that they had also sold us 2 week expired (and rotting) packaged prosciutto and cheese snacks that same shopping trip...thought we would check. Both products appeared ok in the packaging, so my husband didn't bother to check the expiration date. Nor should he have to..but this place is not reputable. My family purchased raw ground beef which was packaged with black meat hidden inside the middle, "We bought at BLM hamburger that looked fresh but when we got it home the entire center was black. They wrapped the black old meat with a thin layer of fresh meat like a tootsie roll. That was it for me." read more

Tried and true local market. Slightly more expensive than a big box grocery store but it makes up for it with its quaint mountain town vibes. They have great gifts in the front of the store and a banging cheese and meat section for all your charcuterie board needs. Seriously there's like nine different types of olives... it's pretty impressive. I've never ordered a sandwich but it has been on my to do list. I don't normally like grocery store sushi but theirs is surprisingly tasty and good for a quick lunch. I've tried quite a few of their "ben lomond market" house brands - from Bloody Mary mix to marinades to spicy olive juice (they apparently really like their olives!) and all have been great. I've always had great service from the cashiers - my only comment is it'd be nice to see more people throughout the store if you need to ask a question. All in all, I almost always find what I need and then some! read more

I was in self check out and an item was not scanning correctly so I turned around to get help and saw a man that works here filming me/taking pictures of me from behind with his phone. As soon as I turned around he was acting nervous and weird. Whether he thought I was stealing or if he was being a creep, it is extremely inappropriate and made me feel incredibly uncomfortable. I went back in the next day to talk to the manager who was a woman to express my concerns and she did not take me seriously at all and was super dismissive. So as I was quickly gathering our things to race to the park bathroom my toddler walks to a bush in the parking lot and pees. A store employee walks over a sternly says "that is NOT allowed!" Ya I KNOW but WTF am I supposed to do??? She then asked why I hadn't asked for a restroom (I had) and informed me that they have a restroom in cases of emergencies IF there are enough employees available to give you access. Recently, let's say in the last 7 months I found this lil treasure so I thought. I normally complete my weekly shopping Thursday or Friday evening. I preface this because the market is ran by a skeleton crew at night. However, I am always greeted, and the guys are extremely helpful. After picking up some building materials across the street, I decide to go shopping. BIG MISTAKE! The morning crew was initially nowhere to be found, then 3 females appeared 1 working in the liquor department, 1 in various areas of the front in, and the other checking groceries. I wish I had gotten their names. What I can tell you is the female checker was contrite, rude, snarky and unprofessional I was at the self check out, as when I was ready to check out their were ZERO staff to be found... somehow she made this a issue, as I was having problems with some of the bar codes registering. As I was walking out I said " thank you ", she stated, in front of a customer... next time just come to me". I.was embarrassed, clearly my lil 178.00 a week doesn't matter to BL Market. I can spend my money elsewhere.. or just make sure I only go in the evening, where the male crew is at least friendly. Pls note, one of the Lady's.. let's call her front end/fountain girl... she made a effort to assist. But did not rectify the problem. If upper Management happens to read this review be fully aware.. you have a nice market..my family and I normally shop at Draggers, ( which I can't always get to. ) I found your market to be a close 2nd... my point.. don't let this person destroy your business and pls don't get over confident that it can't happen. I use to patron this place, almost daily when I worked in the SLV. Recently had a job in Ben Lomond so I figured I'd stop by since I always thought of it as one of my favorite spot for a sandwich and restroom stop. The patio is great for lunch... Yet don't ask to use the bathroom you'll be sent on a wild goose chase, looking for the one person to say yes they'll open it for you. So you can't enjoy the patio while you need to relief yourself. However, all the positive experience aside that I had in the past went to shit today when I visited and needed to use the restroom... I walked in, asked the front cashier to use the restroom. She pointed me toward produce section behind double doors, yet I couldn't find anyone there to open the restroom door as suggested on the restroom door itself. So I walked out the double doors and found a woman stocking the back wall... I asked her about the restroom. She said it's "Closed to the public" and I said "Well, the lady at the front said it wasn't, I just needed someone to open it with a key." As well, as two other people who pointed me to the bathroom & said ask for a key. She said "You can't use it." and stared at me blankly. I had just spent $20 on a sandwich and chips and other shit and this place wouldn't let me use the damn bathroom that I knew was there. As I walked back to where the bathroom was again. I noticed a new sign (on the double doors) directing me down the fuckin street to use the restroom at the park? -- Must've missed this sign the first try. Are you kidding me? I'm here eating my lunch on your patio and you won't let me use the restroom? Not even to wash my hands? (I had been working outside) There was a flustered gentleman in the back and I asked him to open the door to restroom. He did, as he did I then asked what the stockers name was that rudely denied me the service of the restroom. He told me it was the OWNER! I couldn't believe it. The owner herself denied me the restroom that was clearly not "Closed" other than to judgement of hers as to who could & could not use it. Her cashier had better people skills than she did. So did most of the other workers... Other than the lady who made my sandwich who snickered when I asked for Pesto Mayo then denied it after she told me it was a fuckin $1 extra... literally for some spread? Again, need I say ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This place has gotten a one star from me, due to the fact that I loved it back in 2014 yet it's lost it's local attitude and lacks decency now. I once would rant & rave about it's sandwiches and options... now I am just disappointed in it's lacking to relation to the public. I've been shopping at BLMarket for 22 years. I always thought they did a good job even when times were tough. But lately it's been awful. Moldy bread, items past expiration date with no options. But today took the cake. I paid more than $30 for a crab cleaned and cracked. When I got it home it was so god-awful I couldn't eat it. It was sticky to the touch and stunk like rotten meat. I was so disappointed after looking forward to my crab meal all day. They offered to let me come back and get another one. There was no way I would want one of those crabs. I can't imagine that the person at the meat counter allowed me to buy it. Never again. read more

Payment can't be processed and the customers are told to leave their items and exit the store. Nice going - a chance to rack up some great good will and PR - tell the people to take their items and stop back later to pay for them. It is a local community market. I have NEVER been more disappointed in this store. I used to do my shopping here with my grandfather, but the employees/owners/managers there are AWFUL people and have inspired me to take my shopping to Safeway- I don't care how far out of the way it is. The food I have gotten there in the past is moldy, they have an awful selection of organics, and crappy customer service! One of my good friends used to work at this store and has confirmed that they would falsely label meats as grass fed, the owner was fully aware of black mold growing behind the counter- near where they prep the meats. Another one of my good friends has gotten food poisoning several times because of the food from Ben Lomond Market (big surprise there!) I am also very disappointed in their ability to properly handle sexual harassment. I have family members (who, at the time, were teenage girls) that were sexually harassed by a man that also worked at BLM. That really upset me, being so close to that matter! They let him work there for too long. Again, I am very disappointed in this store and will NEVER be shopping there again. If I were you, I would take my business elsewhere. It took 15 minutes to make and when she finished she left it on the counter and didn't tell me while I waited another 5 minutes until asking her. The sandwich had nothing in it. It was cold and flat. I'm new to the SLV but am rapidly being won over by the Ben Lomond Market. Their selection of quality meats and vegetables is excellent, as is their good assortment of fine wines. I was surprised to discover such an upscale grocery store in a small town like BL but that's what makes the town so special. BL Market has become my favorite stop for a fresh deli sandwich -I had turkey with all the fixings (which was large enough to share with my husband) and was not disappointed. Add to that their very charming picnic tables and its the the perfect spot to beat the heat and enjoy a nice lunch! This place is OK if you need the basics - but I feel like their basics could be better - considering the size of this place - and considering that it's located in the all natural food mecca that is Santa Cruz. I stopped in here to stock up on some food supplies for a small festival across the street at the Santa Cruz Mountain Art Center. While I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had organic Late July chips (my favorite) and Roberto's of Santa Cruz guacamole (also my favorite) - I was disappointed in the rest of their food selection. Their hummus selection was very poor and their basic supplies such as cups and stuff was also quite weak. I ended up skipping on hummus since I was so disenchanted with their choices and the cups that I ended up getting were so tiny - that one of the musicians even made a Zoolander reference on stage - asking if we were planning on hosting "beer-pong for ants." Despite the not so what's up selection of food products - I found their service to be quite friendly and personable and it was definitely nice to have a grocery store - so closeby for the festival. The cashier didn't know how to make it, which I can understand. That specific cashier asked the manager for help. What did the manager say? "I don't know how to make an iced mocha". This is a great Market serving the entire San Lorenzo Valley as well as tourists that just happen to come in. I used to come here quite often while living in Felton, just couldn't make myself to go to that chain store that starts with an S But they've become a terrific store. they have a great Deli with a good selection of cheeses. Their meat and fish selection is top notch, they have some great butchers. They have a good selection of fresh foods to go for a lunch, picnic or dinner. They also have fresh Sushi, it was fun watching the woman slice the fresh tuna. It's so much more than a local market. read more

I'm not familiar with the staff but my daughter in law started a job here and they were absolutely devastating. They continuously bullied her keep in the mind they are ALL older women 40+. I cannot state everything they did because it was to way to much and I'm not here to give details. Long story short a so called Stephanie was constantly yelling at her and targeting her for probably just being a harder working women. Overall all these women are clearly going through a mid life crisis because from what I hear there all way to far up there asses. If your thinking about getting a job here? From moldy baked goods to cheese that expired a month beforehand to milk that has clearly been frozen and defrosted, every time I've been in BLM, I find food that is past its sell by date or has gone bad. When I told an employee about some moldy lemon bread, she refused to remove it from the display and said that the vendors were in charge of stocking it and it had nothing to do with her. I reported expired cheese and it was still there 2 months later. Needless to say, I don't shop here anymore which is a shame because I'd love to have a local market. For the prices they charge, they should be more like Robert's Market in Woodside. Instead, it's high-end prices with low quality goods. read more

I brought my 305$ recycling voucher In the morning they said come back in the evening when they have more cash. At 7:00 pm they still did not have enough money. This market is horrible, I've purchased food that was bad several times from them, completely putrid salami on one occasion. Their salad bar is a joke, it was obviously put together by someone who has no understanding of nutrition or food allergies. I am gluten intolerant and they only offer breaded fried chicken strips as topping or sometimes some nasty looking ham (this is a salad here people, hellooo trying to avoid deep fried stuff). All the vegetables in the salad bar are either in huge chunks or shriveling dried out shreds. If you can't stand the salad bar you could get one of the many nasty unhealthy things from the hot food department if you want to eat a bunch of greasy, fried, probably old food. This place is really out of place and they need to get with the program and provide quality nutrition, not keep poisoning the community. read more

(not trying to be a Karen sorry if it sounds like that) And I'm almost always helped by her.
