This place is awesome! It is the only place cranking out delicious, GMO free pizzas that will knock your socks off! The owner/bartender is making craft cocktails in a casual but classy environment that screams "This is my new everyday hangout". Make no mistakes, this is NOT Modern Pie, and if you had a bad experience with the last place, I urge you to give the new place a try. One of my new favorite places on Bainbridge Island (and other place they might move to). So our daughter suggested we have dinner with one of her friend at Bene Pizza - OK it's a pizza place? We got there and it looks like a hole in the wall - then we went in - small yes, awesome yes. We became family instantly. Home cooked, hand selected, choice wine selection and like sitting around your Italian Grandmother's table. Everything was amazing from pizza to the entrees and the garlic bread is to die for (if you have nothing else but that and some wine - heaven is all I can say). So a few nights later (a Friday night) we had grandchild sitting duty at the last minute. Friday night, rainy, last minute - ok lets try Bene Pizza. The place was swamped, as I expected, but when one of the managing partners saw us come in he said "twice in one week and from the East Coast, we'll make this work" and he did! Happy grandchildren - Happy Pop-Pop! Bene Pizza is a little off the beaten path, but well worth taking the time to check it out. This tiny little restaurant (there is extra seating outside) has low-lighting giving it an ambience that makes dinner feel extra-special. We ordered the Hawaiian and the Sausage, Mushroom and Onion pizzas. Both were delicious and above par. The cocktail list looked interesting, but we were with our small child so didn't try them out. Bene is small so I'd advise you to book ahead, they do take reservations. I give this 4 stars and not 5 as the pizzas aren't wood-fired, and in my opinion all the best pizzas are cooked this way. read more

Great little pizza spot. We were in town visiting family and the atmosphere was a perfect and intimate experience for all of us. Also, the food is FANTASTIC. We had a wide spread of appetizers and pizza and were even able to bring our own bottle of wine in to enjoy. But don't worry they have own great selection of adult beverages. So we drove through Bainbridge a few months ago and randomly stopped at this place. It was fantastic. So good in fact, that we planned this current trip through Bainbridge with stopping here in mind. There food is fantastic. Probably the best Caesar salad I have ever had. Pizza is fantastic as well. They have a huge selection is liquor, with over 150 whiskies. Cocktails are awesome, their barrel aged cocktails are Amazing. I wish this place was closer to seattle! This is definitely one of those those places you need to stop at! Sadly, disappointed. I recently stopped into Benne to place a take out order and have a cocktail with my companion while waiting for our order. While the host/waiter placed our Large pie and house salad order to go, we ordered a Moscow mule and a Kettle One vodka martini. The waiter searched for Kettle One, with no prevail. My second choice, Svedka also listed on their long list of spirits was unavailable, so I settled with Absolut. 2 listed, yet no inventory?? The martini glass was miniature compared to the Moscow mule serving cup, which I thought was odd. Upon finishing our cocktails the waiter stated that a new hire in the kitchen had mistaken our Large Pie order for a small...and that we could either WAIT another 25 mins for a Large or settle and take the small. Pressed for time and attempting to share a Large pie with friends we asked if perhaps we could get a break on the cocktails (one Free?), which the waiter stated was against company policy...$56 later, for 2 so-so cocktails, a small pie and house salad. Not a bar I would recommend! read more

Let me start with the highlights. The pizza and appetizer we had were stellar. We had the Greek pizza and prosciutto asparagus and they both were amazing. We also ordered the cherry salad. It was "ok". It lacked dressing which I feel impeded its full potential. The service was average at best. We went on a Saturday night and it appeared that they were overwhelmed with the amount of customers. Our server was pleasant but appeared a bit lost with our food, refilling our water, etc. It was almost like they forgot we were there even though they walked right by us to serve everyone else. It took over an hour to get our food. Our friends missed their ferry because we there a long time, not by choice. Which brings me to the final point. Buried deep in the menu in small print it states that parties of 4 or larger will pay a mandatory tip of 18%. Apparently that is considered a large group in this restaurant. It was frustrating to get good food with less than average service and then pay extra for it in a predetermined tip with no recourse. If we go back, I'll probably order my pizza to go and skip the rest. read more

If you are staying at the Best Western or Island Country Inn this is the only sit-down restaurant within walking distance. The Island Grill is not a place to eat as it is where a lot of the heavy drinkers on Bainbridge Island hang out at the bar. There is a fairly good mexican cafe and a Subway where one can eat in, but neither have a full bar and wine. Bene is a wonderful restaurant and serves drinks and food that surpass most in Seattle. The pizza is made before you in a cozy warm oven. The wine selection is great and the drinks are made very professionally. If Bene served breakfast too our stay would have been perfect! Bainbridge Island does not do right by the part of Winslow that is "uptown" -- traffic dominates pedestrians (we were nearly run over trying to cross High School Road on foot) ...civil planners on Bainbridge Island should nurture the seed that is Bene and work to create a more pedestrian friendly, elegant mall atmosphere near the two main motels... more like a University Village than a strip mall. It is hard to do a lot with a bunch of banks and a gas station, yes, but this jewel of a restaurant proves that it can be done. read more

We've had problems in the past, but thought after a couple of years, we'd give Bene another try. We had to wait an excessively long time, along with another unhappy customer, for our to go order in a very over crowded restaurant. A very rude person took my order over phone. Once we got home, we realized our order was wrong, and we later discovered we were also over charged. To top off an already horrible experience, we both fell ill during the night, felt like food poisoning. When we asked for a refund, there was a lot of confusion. My husband talked to owner, who was rude, abrasive and accusing. We will never go there again!!! Very sad on such a small island. read more

Wow ! We were visiting the Island for our last day in the Seattle area and asked around for a good pizza place to eat at. Surprisingly, it was across the street from our hotel. Bene Pizza is a modest establishment but the pizza is outstanding. Fresh, thin crust baked in front of you. Michael and his crew of two really know what they are doing with the dough. We opted for the :Funghi" comprised of three different kinds of fresh mushrooms and sprinkled with goat cheese at the end. Superb taste and a great texture to the dough made on site. We also had a large house salad, drizzled with balsamic vinegar and a small plate of oven roasted brussel sprouts and bacon. The salad was light and fresh and the sprouts were perfectly caramelized in an iron skillet placed in the pizza oven. To drink we had a local porter that was not too heavy and went well with the meal. The owner Michael also specializes in crafting vintage cocktails for your drinking pleasure. If you visit the island, make sure you take in a meal at Bene Pizza. It is a small place, with big tastes ! read more

In town visiting for the week, and this is the second time in the last three nights we've gotten pizza from Bene (had pizza leftovers last night so this is really the third night in a row we are having their pizza). I was there twice. When I sat down at the table during the second visit. The owner (?) came over to the table, squatted down before me and explained that good food takes a long time to prepare and if I couldn't live with that I should leave and not come back. This caught me by surprise and I asked for an explanation. Well, he remembered my first visit and that I had an attitude. I was surprised and suggested that perhaps he was mistaken. Definitely not, again he suggested that I should leave and not return. When at home I asked my wife what she recalled about the first visit. Bad service and a long wait for a pizza was her reply. So I must have brought that to their attention. The way they deal with a dissatisfied costumer is unique to say the least. I mean, we are talking pizza here, Flour, water and toppings. In the end it takes 8 minutes at 800 degrees for a pizza that it ends up being one of the best mediocre pizzas you will ever eat on the island. read more
