I'm giving this grocery store/restaurant 5 stars because it merits more than just a 4-star 'Good' rating. If Yelp allowed it I'd give it a 4.5. Our son's been wanting to take us here for a long time and chose this, our first visit, as his wedding anniversary gift to us, his very dear and suffocatingly loving parents. The first thing that struck us were the variety of Italian foods and ingredients for sale in the grocery part of the restaurant. I bought the Garlic Scape Pesto because I've never had that type of pesto sauce so, why not? The staff at the front counter, who also doubled as hosts and wait staff, were very friendly. We arrived early for our reservation and only had a short wait before being seated at our table. We sat in the larger, outdoor section that was inside a tent. Our table offered great views of the outside and of the restaurant interior. I'm not sure why but when our son called in our reservation we had to pre-order our dishes and he had to pay for it then. The benefit of this was that after we were seated our orders came to our table within 10 minutes. We ordered the Vr11 Caesar Salad (which came with lemon-infused croutons!), two wood-fired pizzas and the Eggplant Parmigiana. The Caesar Salad appeared modest but when eating it, the lemon-infused croutons gave it a wow factor. My pizza was the Pizza Calabrese with two types of spicy Calabrian sausage, a Tropea Onion Jam, scarmozza (smoked mozzarella cheese, roast red peppers and grana padano. I didn't really get the smokiness in the cheese nor did the sausage chunks on pizza taste that spicy. But the clear star of the show was that Tropea Onion Jam which WAS spicy because I think 'NDuja sausage was mixed in with it. THERE was the heat I was looking for within a huge burst of flavor. That jam alone made the pizza. Our son loved his Pizza Carbonara ("It was amazing!") with the large dollops of stracciatella cheese with cured egg yolk, and curled guanchiale (pork jowl). This was our first tasting of guanchiale (our son graciously let me sample his pizza) and it was good. It was more like sliced pancetta and it was good. He loved his pizza but I tell ya, mine with that onion jam had already won me over. How much did my wife enjoy her Eggplant Parmigiana (which she also let me sample)? My wife usually doesn't finish her restaurant entrees. She finished this one. Nice marinara sauce flavors mixed with grated Grana Padano cheese and tender sliced grilled eggplant. I didn't pick up any grilled flavor from the eggplant but the dish was delicious. This was our son's second visit and we'd like to return for his third and our second. Both the grocery and restaurant are definite winners. read more

3.5 stars. Decent food and decent ambiance. We came here for lunch on a Sat afternoon and got seated quickly. Their process is that you order at the counter first and then they seat you. We were in the covered patio and it was heated, which worked well since it got cooler and rainy within a few minutes of us getting there. Their ambiance is casual and they have servers but you don't end up interacting much with them. We ordered the margherita pizza, the funghi e tartufo, the hot lovers pasta with shrimp (level 3 spice), the spinach ravioli. Everything was delicious. My personal favorite was the mushroom pizza and the hot lovers pasta. The pasta definitely had a kick to it for level 3. The shrimp could have been replaced with alternative meat option because it didn't absorb the sauce like I would have liked it to. The ravioli was done well. The margherita was very tasty. They gave bread with the pasta but it was just super bland and there was no olive oil or butter with it. Overall, decent place to come and get a quick, filling meal. A cute little Italian grocery store and a cafe with an open kitchen on Bainbridge Island. Honestly when I saw the kitchen staff at work, something told me the food was gonna be off the charts. It was! We got the spinach and ricotta ravioli with the mushroom sauce, spaghetti with marinara and an artichoke/mushroom/ olives pizza. It was terrific. I was eyeing the cannoli and a friendly lady in the line told me it was a must try. So I did. It was crunchy, not too sweet, nutty from the pistachio and sweet from the chocolate. Unfortunately we were very hungry so we demolished the food within minutes-- so no pictures. The storefront was very cute. Had lunch here yesterday. I was all set to order the lasagna and I was promptly told that they were out of pasta sheets. Please, let a diner know what you don't have on the menu so they don't spend their time getting excited for something that you can't provide. I ordered a specialty pizza which is very good. What an absolute hidden treasure. Discovered Via Rosa 11 while exploring Bainbridge Island on the advice of a friend. NOW I get why she recommended it! This place is absolutely delicious in every way! Driving past, you might miss it entirely. The exterior is almost secretive (perhaps that's what they're going for). But once inside, you step into a small Italian market filled with authentic staples. You'll find imported pastas, olive oils, sparkling sodas, cured meats, olives, etc. Equal parts neighborhood pizzeria and Italian market. The owners themselves came out and greeted our table, which immediately impressed me and set the tone. This place is truly family-run. A husband and wife from Hawaii and Italy who have created something similar to the movie "Nonna". Then there's the wood-burning oven that sits glowing in the kitchen, the kind that makes that perfect blister and char. We ordered the Burrata y Speck pizza ($23). San Marzano tomatoes, whole burrata, cherry tomatoes, basil, speck, and Parmigiano. It was outstanding! The crust is PERFECTLY crisp! Funny note* Look how they shaped the pizza as a heart for us on their own....how cute! We also tried the Bruschetta, which was equally excellent. For drinks, we shared a bottle of blood orange sparkling wine, which might have been the most refreshing thing I've had all day. A couple of things worth noting: - First, like most small Italian eateries, dining here is communal as space is limited. You might get your own table, or you might end up dining along fellow pizza lovers. Roll the dice and enjoy the experience. - Second, if you order something to go at the counter, remember to pick it up before leaving. I ordered the cannoli ahead of time to take with me, and completely forgot to take them with me on the way out. My fault. My only real suggestion for Via Rosa (should they need more business) is to lean into the curb appeal a bit more. This place deserves to be discovered IMO, but right now it's so subtle from the road that many people will drive right past without even realizing what they are missing. Which would be a shame because if you stop, you'll find a tiny slice of Italy tucked away on Bainbridge Island! Will ABSOLUTELY be back. 5 stars. read more

One of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to. **BIG DISCLOSURE** the restaurant part is only open Thursday-Sunday evenings, the market is open M-W. Plan accordingly! I try to come here every time I go to Bainbridge and have always loved whatever I get. Their bolognese sauce is delish, as well as their wild boar ragu. They have a variety of freshly made pastas to try, I love their radiatori because they hold the sauce really well. It takes a little time for the food to come out because it's all freshly made, but it's worth it! There's some indoor seating and lots of heated outdoor seating. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Via Rosa 11 one day and we were so impressed we returned a month later with my family for my birthday dinner. The location may seem unassuming as it shares a lot by a convenience store, however, the food is remarkable. The first time we had dinner here, we did not have a reservation, so we shared part of the community table. The other couple eating at the table was nice, however, it is a good idea to make a reservation ahead of time if you want a private table. When you enter the restaurant, you walk to the register to order and pay for your food before being seated. The cashier was helpful and gave great recommendations for wine and food pairings. The service was quick, and we received our appetizers and meals within half an hour of ordering. All of the pastas, sauces, and pizzas we tried were made in house and incredible. Don't skip dessert... our party of 5 enjoyed sharing the tiramisu, cannolis, and budino al cioccolato. They also have a small market area where they sell some of their foods to-go in addition to wine and other Italian-imported goods. We like the lemon-infused olive oil and lemon candies. read more

We ordered the duck ragu and butternut squash ravioli - the duck ragu was okay, nothing exceptional but the butternut squash felt like there was something missing. It tastes like what it says on the menu which is literally butternut squash with browned butter sauce, but it felt like it wasn't seasoned, so I had to ask for some salt. Absolutely fantastic spot for anyone looking for quality food on Bainbridge Island. Firstly, the people are incredibly friendly. You feel the positive energy from the staff as soon as you walk in. They were more than willing to make the several modifications we requested as vegetarians. Secondly, the food is very high quality. The ingredients are fresh and you feel satiated without feeling like you have overeaten. If you do overeat, it's still worth it. The pizza was burnt and cold. My fiancée got the pepperoni pizza. It was black on the bottom. I got the prosciutto pizza and it was the worst pizza i've ever eaten. It was 90% raw cold arugula. With prosciutto sloppy thrown on. It tastes like I was eating grass. Really disappointed and they didn't even have pasta left by the time we got there at 6:30. to top it off it was 44$ and all we got was 2 pizzas. My family ordered a Caesar salad with dressing and anchovies (upcharge) on the side, ravioli with vodka sauce, spinach fettuccine with wild mushrooms, and a mushroom tartufo pizza. The pasta was homemade, perfectly cooked. The ravioli was seasoned well but the mushroom fettuccine needed more salt. The pizza was good and the sauce was flavorful, not like a typical tomato sauce. They serve a thin crust Neopolitan style pizza. The crispy on the outside pillow crusts were good. Order at the counter and they will assign you a table. Then the servers provide water, utensils and plates. They were attentive and provided refills on water, salt and takeout containers. Finally made it to Via Rosa 11 after hearing so much buzz about this place. The Pizza Angelina was an absolute knockout - the guanciale added this perfect salty bite that played beautifully with the sweet San Marzano tomatoes. Those Castelvetrano olives are the fancy bright green ones that actually taste amazing (not the canned stuff), and the Fresno peppers gave just enough heat to keep things interesting. The 6 formaggi ravioli with wild mushrooms was pure comfort food luxury. Each pillow was stuffed with this ridiculous cheese blend, and the porcini mushroom sauce had this deep, earthy flavor that I'm still thinking about days later. Heads up - it can get packed, especially during dinner and their website asks you to call ahead with your entire order. Worth every penny though. This is legit Italian food that rivals spots I've tried in Seattle and definitely the best I've had on Bainbridge Island. Everything we had was absolutely delicious! The pasta was amazing, sauces were even better. We had the boar ragu, eggplant parmigiana, and the spinach ravioli. With a cannoli for dessert and it was fine. The set up is a little different from most other places. It's kind of like a deli where you order at a counter and wait for your food. The staff was very friendly and the food came out pretty quick. My only semi complaint is one dish came out 5-10 minutes before everything else, but I'd rather that than have it sit under a heat lamp. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing, but I was a little surprised and disappointed by our experience. We ordered for dine in and placed our order at the cash register. The total came out to around $90 for two glasses of wine and two pasta dishes with a tip included. The pasta was fresh but the flavors weren't there, mine was extremely bland. And for almost $30 for each dish, neither included protein. They also brought out 2 mini pieces of bread to use to get your sauce up at the end, one per a dish. And to top it all off, our wine was served in water glasses rather than a wine glass , which was odd since I saw others nearby with wine glasses. I almost felt like each moment of the meal we were being trolled. I wouldn't return, and I'd urge them to lower their prices, because it's more of a quick service experience rather than a nicer, sit down restaurant. read more

I was looking forward to eating here, but left fairly disappointed. The dining room is a tent in the parking lot. If you want water you'll have to get it yourself from a stand, in the tiny plastic cups provided. There is no table service other than placing the food indifferently on the table randomly. The salads were very tasty, with quality ingredients, but the pasta was not great. The cheese ravioli almost tasted stale, and the pesto was brown on top, and had none of the fresh vibrant flavor I expect from fresh pesto. The cannoli were pretty good. Perhaps I had my expectations high, but for the price I was expecting to be delighted with either the food or the service, and both were just ok. I don't think I'd return to dine there, but the take home lasagnes are worth picking up to go once in awhile. read more

I am so happy to finally update my review to include the dine in service! I came here on a Friday for lunch, just me and my baby, and it was so lovely! We did not have a reservation but there were plenty of tables for lunch. The weather was nice so we sat in the covered outdoor area and the staff was really attentive and helpful since I was alone with a 6 month old. We tried the vegetable medley platter and the mushroom spinach pasta and everything was sooo delicious! My kiddo especially liked the broccoli and I'm still dreaming about the mushroom pasta! I wish that I had had room for dessert because the Panna Cotta looked bomb. It's a bit of a drive for me but the food is well worth it! My only suggestion to improve this experience would be to install a changing table in the bathroom please! It's something I never thought about until the last 7 months and I expect that most people aren't thinking about that, but it would definitely help a mama out! read more

We've been coming to Via Rosa from Seattle for years because the food is usually worth the trip. Lunch food was still good overall (about a 4/5) and the pasta and appetizers were enjoyable, but the pizza wasn't as great as usual. What really surprised us was the service, especially during a lunch that wasn't busy at all. We waited a long time just to get water and napkins, and when we asked politely, we were told to "be patient." Our server didn't check on us, and I eventually had to get napkins and water myself. It really took away from what should've been a relaxed meal with friends. We first learned of this place two years ago while camping out during COVID. The Seattle newspaper reported the best pizza in Seattle was actually found on Bainbrisge Island we've been returning ever since. MY husband loves the Clams Vongale and the Bolognese is my favorite. The deli store is filled with treasures to take home. There are a few tables in view of the kitchen but the place is so popular tables were added outside under tents decorated with plants and treasures from a far away homeland.
