Just left Benedict's and had THE WORST experience! This could have been an easy service recovery situation, but the owner/manager handled it poorly. We had multiple problems (bug in drink cup, food sent back twice for being cold, I had to wait for my breakfast while my family was served before me, plastic wrap on one of the quiches) and our server told us the manager/owner was "taking care of the bill". We assumed they would just take off the food we sent back for being cold as well as the quiche with the plastic wrap. They brought us back the bill and had taken 10% off-- which was not even the cost of one of the items we sent back. The server felt bad for the trouble we had, so she didn't originally charge us for the two coffees. After the bill came back a second time with the two problem food items removed, the two coffees had been added to the bill, making the bill HIGHER the second around. We were floored at the pettiness of the adding the coffee after the fact, especially after multiple people had been involved and we had been waiting for the corrected bill for twenty minutes at this point. We loved this restaurant, but we will NEVER be back! read more

So I don't normally write reviews. However, my boyfriend and I were extremely excited to try this place after reading all the buzz on Yelp. What a joke, We are both in the industry so we understand how tough and demanding it is. But rule number one is never turn a customer away. We showed up at 1:40pm 20 minutes before they closed. We even called ahead and they said they would take us. We would of been quick in and out. However when we walked up to the door we were greeted with a rude "we close at the 1:45 on Sunday's" so to someone who hadn't called ahead...no big deal. However I did call 5 minutes prior as we live right up the road. My boyfriend mentioned we called and were told they didn't close until 2pm. So she shouted across the restaurant "they called and we said we don't close until 2pm." (Meanwhile, my boyfriend and I are still standing by the front door) She then yelled back and fourth with what seemed a manager (hopefully not the owner....we are still standing by the door with the door open) about letting us stay, then the manager yelled across the restaurant "we will seat you but we are trying to shut down the grill so give us your order when you get your menus and hurry up and order." Meanwhile, I noticed 5 different tables were full of customers and 2 table were seated on the outside. So....We sat down for a few seconds at their outside seating areas and decided we definitely didn't want to stay and feel unwelcome and the employee who brought us our menus and was the one who rushed us asked us if we were sure we wanted to leave. And YES.... I was most certain we were SURE we didn't want give our money or time to Benedict's. Being in the industry, I understand restaurants have bad days...the kitchen and front of the house. That being said, I'll come back to a restaurant if my first impression was a bad meal, cold food, or maybe I just picked the wrong meal to suit my liking. I'll come back if my first impression was long ticket times or poor service because maybe the server is new, overwhelmed or short staffed. But if my first impression is a RUDE employee or no proper BUSINESS etiquette like turning a customer away because you want to close a little earlier.....the first impression then becomes the ONLY impression. We arrived at Benedict's on Sunday at 12:10 and didn't finish until 1:35. Sorry, but the service was so slow because the restaurant is sadly understaffed. When our food arrived, it was delicious BUT cold. The omelette was done to a T but both the omelette and the potatoes were not quite luke warm. Likewise, my spongy cold toast had just a dab of butter smeared in the middle. I'm not blaming our waitress (whose name was never given to us) because she was at a dead sprint the whole time and had tables outside as well as inside. She gave us partial attention at best. This is a case of a small restaurant (we used to eat at their smaller location often) that relocated to a larger building and just can't give the attention needed to make it a truly good restaurant. Good food is good when served hot and pleasantly, not cold food served by a frazzled waitress whose mind is on the other tables who were grumpy because they had been there longer than we had.... we won't return. read more

We chose this place for breakfast one recent Saturday when we were headed to Honeymoon Island. I have to disagree with other reviewers who give this restaurant 5 stars. While the service was really terrific, the food was mediocre. I was looking for something healthy, so I ordered the Greek omelet, and my husband ordered the Mediterranean omelet. We were disappointed that both were made with (canned) black olives (terrible flavor), not Kalamata, the type you would typically find in these types of omelets. And they were overcooked. So skip the omelets here and go for something else that they're better known for. read more

The food was excellent! And the service was mostly good. However, my 6'8" husband asked for the most filling thing on the menu and was told all of them are very filling with large portions. So he didn't get a direct answer on this. So he ordered the quiche. I ordered the Mediterranean Benedict and replaced the fruit with bread. My meal ended up being twice his size. Although the quiche was delicious, it was very small and not at all the large filling meal he asked for. So we replaced it with the Benedict since it's much more filling. However, instead of replacing the meal as her mistake for giving misinformation, she took off the meal, but still charged for a slice of quiche, which was still $7, and so we only got $3 off. Instead of just removing the meal and leaving us happy customers, they still charged us, after repeated complaints, and left us unhappy customers. Excellent quality food! Just based on food, this place would be a 5 star! But this experience has soured us from this restaurant and we probably won't come back here. My husband is a big guy and need more food than the average person. They didn't deliver on this. Only gets a 2 star because I had no problem with my meal. Most others will probably eat here and have a fabulous experience though! read more

I went there on a Sunday it was very busy. We waited a long time for our drinks, we had to get another waitress to get us our drinks after 20m. The food was mediocre. I can understand the busyness of the rush but I ordered eggs, hash browns, toast and bacon. That is nothing out of this world to make and it was so bad. Not worth the wait. read more

Am sorry to say my last trip to Benedict's was not as pleasant as other visits. Sitting outside because they allow leased dogs in that area. Unfortunately, that area has been allowed to become so dirty. Another diner had an unleashed dog that came our way and peed on a nearby chair leg. Yuck. Service from Sara was very good! My sisters and I went here because of the reviews we read here on yelp. I love a good breakfast and this place was EXCELLENT!! The service was outstanding as well...in fact we went back three days later and our waitress remembered what we had ordered from our last visit!! Had breakfast there this morning. Service was totally unacceptable. It took over 45 minutes to get our food after ordering. There were 3 of us in our party. Order #1, pancakes, came out first after having sat in the window for 10 minutes. After 5 minutes, I had to get up to get the pancake syrup, as the waitress was far more concerned with other customers. Order # 2 came out about 5 minutes after that without toast. After complaining to the manager, who wouldn't listen to my complaints...just saying they were very busy and he was doing all he could do, then asked what else we were missing from our order. This all took place while I kept hearing the kitchen ask for the ticket for the order. I finally got my meal after about 90 minutes. While the food was good, it is certainly not worth the wait and we will not be returning. read more

The service in this place is horrible! It took 45 minutes from the time we ordered to when we got our food. The "manager" (owner's daughter) was not the least bit apologetic nor did she try to make us happy. She did not even notice we were sitting there without our food. Great food and HUGE serving sizes. I am a big eater and I couldn't finish my breakfast, despite trying my best to do so. I ordered the corn beef and hash with eggs. I didn't realize everything else that came with it. A great breakfast and will definitely come back. We fed (stuffed) as family of 5 for about $30. Some of our kids orders from the lunch menu, so everyone was happy. All of the staff are very nice. This place draws a crowd for a reason. 2 thumbs up! read more

From the dripping wet bleach soaked table (complete with fumes), to the bloody hamburger I thought it couldn't get worse- but then the waitress had her dog out front barking and she went out to join him - and started smoking! One of the best (if not THE best) breakfast places in Dunedin. The staff is excellent and very friendly (apart from one server whose tables I try to avoid sitting at as she is not very pleasant or cheerful). The food is consistently good. I have never had any food that was not great and I go to this restaurant A LOT! Food is always hot and the coffee refills keep coming. They are very accommodating if you want something that is not actually on the menu. If they have the ingredients, they will make it for you. This is a great little breakfast place. If you try it and are not impressed with your server, you probably got the one bad one. Don't give up on the place. Go again and sit at someone else's table - it will be a much better experience! read more
